A Double Dose of Heaven
Apr 05, 2007 | 7:36AM | report this

Yes, it's also Easter weekend but don't get me wrong that is not what the heaven reference is doing in my title. I'm talking about  the best time of year, in my opinion,  being prolonged for at least one more week. After being consumed for an entire month by college basketball, I thought I'd just natraully resume my life the way it was pre March Madness. Only to have my second favorite thing in life coincide with the first. That's right the Red Sox opened their season on the same day March Madness came to an end. Prompting me to ponder whether or not my life would ever return to SOME degree of normalcy.

On most days, having Schilling get hit around like that and losing in that fashion to a team like the Royals, no matter if its April or August, would put me in a serious state of depression and have me visiting the liquor store on an hourly basis. But there was no time for that, after the Sox were embarrassed, I had to get ready to watch Florida and Ohio State battle it out for the 2nd time this year in a National Championship game. (Note: I despise both these tschools and yes I'm still a Tennessee fan but I was cheering for Florida just as I was in January, gotta rep the SEC)

Now that the hooplah of opening day is over, and March Madness is a year away, what is left for me to be so excited about you ask? Well that's easy. Today marks the start of the Frozen Four, the first time of the year we are able to hear all the Sox fans who didn't jum call into radio stations and predict a 161-1 finish to the season and it is also Daisuke's first start. Throw in the fact that the NHL play offs are just around the corner and my life has turned into the life of a child who was raised Jewish and Catholic and it's finnally December. This is almost like the first Thursday of the NCAA Basketball Tournament when all you want to do is skip work/school and sit and watch games all day.

2 PM: Daisuke will make his MLB Debut

I'm so excited for this it's like my buddies told me they were taking me to a strip club on my 18th birthday 4 months before just to tease me.

4 PM: Maine vs Michigan State (NCAA Semi-Final #1)

I grew up a Maine fan because the first hockey game I ever went to was Maine Vs BC at BC during the 1993 season when Maine was unstoppable and had the likes of Paul Kariya, jim Montgomery, Mike Dunham and Garth Snow. That's right two NHL starting goalies on the same team. My dad went to BC so me liking Maine would have been a problem but BC was going through a down period in hockey, and BU was Maine's chief rival so as long as I hated BU he was on board. I also won him over by cheering for BC basketball.

8 PM: Boston College Vs North Dakota (NCAA Semi-Final #2)

Since my childhook enfatuation with Maine, I have slowly migrated into  a BC fan. But let me explain. I was such a Maine fan that in 1998 when BC played Michigan for the National Title at the Fleetcenter in Boston and Michigan won in OT. I cheered so loud that I almost got my #### kicked by every person in the building. And if my dad hadn't played a role in me alive he would have wanted to kick my #### too. I could see it in his eyes. I let him down that day, I was like a BU Fan cheering against BC regardless of whether or not my team was playing. Also being 14, I have been petrified to cheer against BC seeing how I was almost murdered. Since that day BC had become my second favorite team, and more recently my favorite as some of the kids I grew up playing with are now playing for the Eagles. Either way I'm a hockey east fan, and in no way shape or form am I allowed to cheer for a team from the WCHA, I learned that the hard way.

Not to mention this should be a great game.

ABOUT ME

tef0324
For the most part I am a college sports fan. I am a Boston College fan (born and raised) and a University of Tennessee fan (My alma matter). For the Pro teams I like the Pats, Celts, Bruins, and Sox of the red variety. I will try to write the most unbiased blogs I am able to however if you are a sports fan you know that it is easier said then done. I'd also like to add that I write all my posts while at work, so there maybe some spelling and grammar (amongst others) errors, for this I apologize in advance. I am not trying to be a columnist just trying to get my opinions out there. All comments welcome.
