Michigan and Nebraska. The Big Blue and the Big Red. Bring in Tennessee and Dartmouth and you'd be halfway to a pack of jumbo crayons.
But unlike those fuzzy kindergarten memories, I think it's fair to say that people won't forget this Alamo, albeit for a lot of the wrong reasons. Although I have a strange affinity for the Sun Belt conference and their football teams, their officiating crew looked about as comfortable as Zac Taylor in the pocket.
Sitting in a living room with an aunt and uncle that are Michigan alum/fans, and a dad and grandfather that are Cornhusker faithful, I found myself at a loss for which cup I was supposed to spit into as I fetched drinks. Thankfully, the game stayed close, and so I got my chance to hear an earful about the poor officiating from both sides. You know things are bad when Mike Tirico is saying that there was poor officiating.
From missed calls to phantom calls, to poor Coach Lloyd having to use timeouts to get the refs to take a second look, and then the ghost of Cal-Stanford past, was there much that these Sun Belt guys got right? This got me to thinking, "what if the Sun Belt is better than the ACC, but thanks to this kind of officiating we just think that they bring up the tail end?" or the even more pressing question of "if you stacked all of Michigan's tailbacks up, would they equal six feet?"
Thankfully, Nebraska pulled it out (and not without great claims of "That's bull$#*@!" from good ole' Uncle Jerry on the last play) which made the ride home with Grandpa that much easier. He's got a weak heart, and seeing Zac Taylor get trucked time and time again isn't good for him. He needs time to breathe between curse words.
Here's to Bill Callahan hopefully getting the #### and Raiders off his back. And Coach Lloyd some competent officials.
24 years old and living life one day at a time. And reading about football as much as I can in preparation for the upcoming pro and collegiate seasons. In the NFL I like the Denver Broncos, although I don't know how well this season will be. As for college, I have about 20-30 teams I enjoy watching, many from smaller conferences (Sun Belt, MAC, WAC), and even my hometown team, the Chattanooga Mocs.
