Kobe's 2002-2003 season Vs. Lebron's 2007-2008 season!
May 08, 2008 | 2:22AM | report this

Didn't want to have to, but what can you do?

This is dedicated to the ones that wanted to go "individual" as if it were the end all be all!

I'm not naming any names, just educating some of the "tidal waves" of comments in regards to who and whom, and what is what.

Lebron James.

A phenomenal athlete. I have the privilege of watching this man play.  Yet!!!!

I've also had the privilege of watching Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Kareem, Dr. J, Michael Jordan, Shaq O'Neal, and Kobe Bryant play ..........................LIVE!

You see. I'm not a part of the "YOUTUBE" generation like most of the bloggers are. I

'm not a part of the "Google" generation which most of them get their info, yet I do google when need be.

I've watched Jordan play live in Chicago back in 93'.  And I've also watched as the Bulls made their respected runs. LIVE. Not on Youtube!

Live! While most bloggers were in grade school and didnt understand what a foul was.  But enough about that.

(side note) I love when bloggers talk about the 80's as if they were there. As if they have ever watched a game played in the 80's and really realized what was going on.

We see a lot of posts today in which we find that a lot of OTHER players were more deserving of the MVP award. I think that there are many that hold TRUE validity. Some are convincing. Some say "team success" some say "INDIVIDUAL PLAY".

I say both. Why not? Chris Paul, Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant were all KEYS to their teams success. I would have said congrats to any of them if they had won.

One of them is the 2008 NBA MVP. And I wont even say because we all know.

We also know that some think because Lebron James who had a 30 point, 8 rebound, and 7 assist season shooting 48% and 71% freethrows and .315% 3pt. should have been the MVP.

Excellent "INDIVIDUAL" season!

And also led a good team to a 45 win season in "arguably" the worst conference in the NBA.

John Hollinger said he was the MVP because he explained that Lebron was just too  "head and shoulders above the rest" because he "individually" dominated!

Yet the coward that Hollinger is, voted for Chris Paul in the end.

And Paul was an excellent candidate. I wont take anything away from him or KG. They  were the reasons their teams are where they are.

Now lets look at another "INDIVIDUAL" great season. And no I'm not talking about 2005-2006.

I'm talking about 2002-2003. And another MVP player that  had these stats.

30 points 7 rebounds and 6 assists shooting 45% and 84% freethrows and 38% 3pt

"INDIVIDUALLY"

Now some people would say that Lebron's season was better because he averaged ONE more rebound and ONE more assist and shot .03% better. But like some people think,

its "INDIVIDUAL"

Heck, I would say it was a better "SEASON" as well! And I would also say that this was Lebron's greatest season. Yet' those other stats I mentioned came from

Kobe Bryant.

FIVE YEARS AGO.

Those two seasons are very comparable. I think any Lebron fan would agree.

Lebron Still did it with some former All Stars, and Kobe Still did it with the megalomaniac that was Shaq.

Only difference is while Lebron was gaining those excellent stats. Kobe was on the other end  of the court stopping people from getting theirs.

 KOBE BRYANT WAS ALSO,

1ST TEAM ALL NBA DEFENDER 2002-2003

Since we know that LBJ wont be on any 1st Team Defense this year.

Now I ask you? Who had the better "INDIVIDUAL" season?

Lebron's 30 points 8 rebounds 7 assists 2008  or

Kobe's 30 points 7 rebounds 6 assists 2003 and 1st Team All Defense.

INDIVIDUALLY!

RANTS THAT HAVE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SUBJECT WILL BE DELETED!!!!!!!!!!!

This is just HORRIBLE. I just read it again, didn't think I had any vomit left - turns out I did.

You're trying to make a half-assed statistical claim that LeBron and Kobe's seasons were essentially the same. And you point out that LeBron only had ONE more this or ONE more that.

Well the difference between 7.2 assists and 5.9 assists!?! DAMN, what's 18% increase anyway.

Gas increased by about 9% today and #### HIT THE FAN everywhere. But 18% is laughably small and should be thrown out.

nba is the worst

Tsunami's pissed!!! wow this is funny.

So how do you feel about the MVP award ceremony last night Tsu??? I'm sure you loved it.

I wonder if Lebron was watching that clinic kobe put on last night. Afterall he does consider him the best player in the world. His quote not mine. Lebron got 1 first place vote. OUCH!!

I guess you were waaaaayyyy off in you earlier blogs this season while you were saying the MVP is lebron's hands down.

MVP awards are nice. But the best part about last night was kobe's comment about us playing until june. He was pumped!!! It gave me chills.

LET'S GET THIS PARTY STARTED!!!

With Billups going down last night and the Celtics just playing horrible basketball and Lebron possibly avoiding another 2-18 night......

Lebron and the Cavs have a real shot at getting out of the eastern conference again.

Couple that with the possibility of the Lakers getting out of the west

I pray the Lakers and the Cavaliers meet in the Finals!

Tsunami,

What part of this blog dont you get?

You always comment and complain about "Individual" play and why Lebron wasnt rewarded for it this season.

I simply noted, that "INDIVIDUALLY", Bryant had a similar season in 2002-2003. While being a 1st Team Defender. AND ALSO DID NOT WIN THE MVP.

Had nothing to do with Shaq or Lebrons former All Star teammates. It was "INDIVIDUAL" seasons.

Never said Kobe's season was better. I asked the readers who's was? They were both around the same age.

Thanks for you dedicating half a blog to me. I didnt know I threatened you that much. Sorry! As for the verbal SMOKING? I bet you really convinced all 5 people who commented on that blog! The only thing SMOKING is that crazy stuff you're puffing on.

Anyway.

To the commentors, I apologize for this guy taking up so many comment spaces with useless rants AGAIN instead of sticking to the subject.

I saw Tsunami on a NASCAR blog trying to convince some guy that Lebron was better than Dale Jr.

2002-2003 Vs 2007-2008.

Once again. Which "INDIVIDUAL" (without Shaq, Wallace, Wally, Ilgauskus) "just on their own" season do YOU think was better?

A simple opinion.

Out of all the BS spewed from Tsunami's parents computer, only ONE comment had anything to do with this subject.

Once again I apologize for that nonsense. He's known for it.

Say what you want - in fact, feel free to do it on my blog, where your comments won't be deleted just because I don't like them.

I've never deleted a comment on my blog, and trust me it has seen its fair share of ranting, laptop shattering, spamming, and complete nonsense.

But TCB is a hack. He comments on people's blog with a sense of authority and pretends to make these History-Altering arguments, and when he's proven wrong, he disappears, only to resurface a few weeks later saying the same bull.

Tsu,
I appreciate the fact that you don't delete comments, Freedom of Speech is important.

I was just piling on.

I know you're not a Kobe fan, which is cool I crack on LeBron all the time, but he's a great player.

Bleed.

Tsunami started name calling. Right off the bat without reading the entire blog.

The entire blog was about how someone could have an incredible INDIVIDUAL season, even on the defensive end and not win the MVP.

Since some people are pleading their case about Lebron and "individual" play. I was just pointing out that Kobe had a comparable season at the same age and even did it on both ends but yet no MVP.

Then this numby takes up all the comment space name calling, and not sticking to a simple subject.
So I will delete that nonsense every time. Nobody needs to put up with name calling and cursing. NOBODY! If you cant make a point without resorting to that, you have no business commenting.

I've never done that to anybody unprovoked regardless of how much I disagree.

sprtsmniac,

Dont think its going to happen. The Celtics are making Lebron a jumpshooter like I said they would. And Lebron just doesnt have a good outside game. Thats why he is not the best player in the league.

And shooting 18% and averaging 8.5 turnovers per game in the series isnt going to cut it.

Jordans, 88-89 season. And about 5 of the Big "O"s

Naw.

Lebrons was incrdible. Kobe got it done on the defensive end though.

Kobe got his MVP! Dont think Lebron will ever have a season like this again.Terrible in the playoffs.

MJs the greatest, but Kobe is the latest.

Forget this stuff. You shouldn't even bother comparing Kobe and Lebron, that's reserved for if the two make it to the finals.

What you should blog about, and what I would blog about if finals weren't killing me, is the ridiculous amount of excuses that are being put out there for why the Lakers are winning.

THEY ARE THE BETTER TEAM.

Jesus christ. Sure, the Lakers got lucky in game 1 because D. Williams was off. Sure, they got lucky in game 2 because the refs favored them. Maybe they'll get lucky in game 3 and Kobe will score 30+ points. Maybe in game 4 they'll get lucky and Lamar will get a double double.

Can you please explain to me how solid defense in game one, and taking it to the rack against a team prone to fouling is something out of the ordinary? I mean if folks want to hate on Kobe, whatever, do what you want. But what what's this newfound trend of trying to minimize Laker success?

tcb,

It's your blog...if you feel it necessary to delete comments, that's your perogative Bobby.

I stopped going to Nique's blog because of it.

Foul language is a part of life, most people use it quite often. I'm an advocate of saying whatever you want, I really don't understand the censorship, but like I said...it's your blog.

IMHO, if someone takes the time to comment on your blog, it shows interest...which is why we blog in the first place...to have someone to exchange thoughts, opinions and ideas with, not have a big lovefest.
The name calling / insults are just part of the blogesphere...worst just did a blog on the subject and it was hilarious.
I find the banter entertaining.
It's why I like reading TheSizzle's posts...the stuff is just downright funny...to tell you the truth, I'm really bummed about Phoenix being ousted because their fans were good smack talkers.
Some of my best exchanges came with NashtyBall and Dbackfanextreme...it got pretty ugly, but when they threw a zinger at me...I laughed and dug deep to come up with an even BETTER insult to lob back at them. After awhile, I considered those guys adversarys, worthy of respect.
Most people take themselves way too seriously, but to me it's all about having fun and having a good laugh.

I wish everyone would just embrace it and lighten up. But some get it, some don't. People are touchy.

Oh well...what can you do?

ABOUT ME

tcbdog
Lakers fan since the 70's. They are the greatest franchise in NBA history. Watched them at the Forum pre-Magic. Watched them at Staples during the Kobe-Shaq era all the way up to Gasol. Have been a season ticket holder for years up until this season. But was still able to make it to 4 games. I'm not part of the Youtube Generation so I've actually watched some of the greatest players of all time. LIVE! Respect people with a valid argument. Can’t stand immature idiots that have nothing better to do. Think MJ is the greatest player of all time. Nobody could do what he did. He was the quintessentia
l teammate and was a part of the greatest team in history. He could play every position. That’s why 'M'agic 'J'ohnson is the greatest of all time. I'm a huge Kobe Bryant fan. Love to torch Kobe Haters and won’t hesitate. Haters on Foxsports are absolute imbeciles which makes it way too easy. But having no class is the Kobe hater M.O. I respect valid critique. Anything done in good taste is cool.
