That slide you pulled off against The Rays was as stupid as is was extremely unnecessary. I realize you are fairly new to the league, and proving your worth through hustle is understandable. But not breaking down on your slide, until you are over the bag, in spring training, will get you smeared!!! I'm talking, Randy Johnson vs. the pigeon kind of smeared the next time you step foot in the batters box.
Yes, Shelley is 6'5 and other measurements as well, but a fastball aimed at your gourd doesn't care. It doesn't discriminate. If aimed correctly it will hit anyone. And right now Shelley, the next time you play The Rays, it will be coming for you.
Now, most pitching coaches will turn their backs and say, " Don't go head huntin'." Or that no one should ever, or actually retaliate. Blah!!!!
I am saying in a situation like this, where a player risks another players safety by a careless, unnecessary act, its open season. Tell them Doofy, " I'll get you one for your head!!!"
I would throw at this guy until the job is done. That means if they have to bring on the back up, right fielder to finish the job because all of the pitchers were ejected, I say do it!!!

This guy reminds me of a big doofus. He just doesn't get it. He'll get it when he's wearing a 95-mph fastball in the ribs. The Rays show NO signs of backing down; in fact, to a man they would say, "Bring it on." If I were Shelley's teammate, I'D be looking to kick his #### for that bush league slide he did to cause all this.
You need to add Melky Cabrera to this blog. He made the classy move of reaching over another player to punch Evan Longoria in the back of the head (reminded me of the move Mickey Rivers used on Bill "Spaceman" Lee some years back). Melky got three games too.
so its unneccessary for shelley to slide with his cleats up but the rays kid and throw his body into our catcher, break his wrist, put him back in his development and who knows how he will react next time he has to block the plate.
stop being a yankee hater, this isnt a big deal. ty cobb did it every game and is praised for it, and is in the hall of fame. charlie hustle ran over a catcher in al ALLSTAR game and that was "good hustle"
why dont you criticize johnny gomes for running 100+feet to TRY to tackle shelley (but failed)?? that dude had a mission in his head
and encouraging people to throw baseball at players head, risking career ending, life threatening injury is the true careless, unnecesssary act going on around here
