Say huh?
Dec 11, 2006 | 6:05AM | report this

After a day of watching the NFL Network I am starting to wonder a few things:

1.  Where are all the people shouting "Indy is the best team in football."  My guess is crying into their bowl of cream of wheat.  I'd be surprised if Indy got through round 1.  The absolute only way Indy has a chance to make it through the playoffs is to A) secure home field advantage B) Get Vanderjagt back.  Who in this room wants Manning over Brady?

2.  I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with the rest of the Bears season.  The only team I'd compare them to is the Colts.  Super start to a season and in the near future the season will be over.  I understand loyalty and all, but does Lovie have any idea??  You have Griese and Orton (refer to last season) on the bench and your qb is playing worse than Alex Smith.  The absolute only way Chicago has a chance to make it through the playoffs is to A) secure home field advantage B) secure home field advantage.  Who thinks the Rams at home have a good chance tonight?

3.  When is Brett Favre going to retire?  His post game interview almost made me cry because I was throwing up.

4.  Here are your not so usual power rankings, these are teams I would not want to play next week if had to win a game (excluding the obvious):

A - Miami (Can you say Joey Harrington comfortable in an offense for the first time in his pro carrer.)

B- Tennessee (I've been saying it since the minute last years national championship game ended, VY is a winner, enough said.)

C - Philadelphia (Why do people hate Jeff Garcia?  Bill Walsh knows how to pick em.)

D - Buffalo (Football is better when the Bills are good .)

E - Pittsburgh (Maybe Big Ben's head doesn't hurt anymore.)

5.  Drew Brees is the best qb in pro football as of right now.  He is in an absolute zone.  I was able to see him live in the G Dome a couple of weeks ago and I have never seen anyone that solid since I used to go watch Steve Young.  Minus the escapability that's the closest you can come to comparing him to a recent quarterback (pocket presence, touch, accuracy on multiple routes).  With those weapons (Bush) if their defense can just hold up, who is better in the NFC right now?

Edwards sucks is better than this?

If this piece of journalistic genius doesn't get like 7 comments I'm changing my name to Miracle, ShooterB, or TSI so I can get the obligatory clickage.

Yes this is an unabashed cry for attention and acceptance.

I agree about Brees. I'm a Dolphins fan and I really wish we had signed him now.

How long will Saban last? They've got to be better than above average if he's going to live up to his billing.

With all due respect to TSI, if I threw in a Haiku and a picture would someone read this. Seriously I need a refresher course in Haiku writing. Then on every post I'll put a Haiku about Ohio State.

I think that the San Diego Chargers are the most balanced, and overall...the best team in football right now. I know that's easy to say given their record...but still.

The Colts...uh, no.

The good news is that most playoff teams have a weak area, and that should make for a competitive post-season.

Did you watch the game yesterday? You really think the Colts aren't in trouble? I wouldn't take em against the spread against a team that could run the ball (which is why they beat N.E.).

A HAIKU WITH CONDOLENSCES TO TSI

ShooterB doesn't like
What I've said about the Colts
At least he showed up

had to check this post out. like you said, not on the main board...

I think you've created a new ranking system- and it's every bit as good as the BCS!

Aside from the potential for late-season ineptutude, the bears and Colts can be compared in another way:

I think the Bears are like the Colts' evil twin.

Colts = all Offense, no defense

Bears = all defense (and special teams), no offense

Oh, actually I was trying to agree with you about the Colts. What I meant was, "uh...no" they aren't going to make it through the playoffs. As many of the analysts pointed out, all of the playoff contending teams can run the football...and Indy just can't stop the run at all.

They clearly aren't the same team we saw last year.

Call me crazy, but I like Jacksonville to make a playoff push.

ohhh...

Yeah, I'd have to say that defensive performance by the Colts was on par with the 49ers, not good company.

If Jacksonville can play like that Jack can say don't let the door hit you on the way out Byron.

Nah, I think Favre is fine.

NFL ranks
Yards: 7th
Touchdowns: 9th
QB Rating: 19th

His completion % (57.0) is low, and I'm not a fan of QB rating anyway. His production is still high and unless you believe he is the sole reason the Packers aren't winning I say leave him alone and let him play the 2007 season.

The truth is that his presence is actually *saving* the city from the cold reality that their team is still bad. Before he showed up they hadn't been a good team since Lombardi roamed the sidelines, right? Cut him some slack.

I like the 5 teams you wouldn't want to face. Funny thing about the NFL playoffs is that all of those teams might be sitting at home yet a few of them would've scored upsets had they gotten in. Sort of like KC & San Diego last year, possibly even Miami & Dallas too.

Coming from someone who lives in Indianapolis, listen to this. There are rumors going around that people want Dungy fired. I don't agree with that, but this team is way to soft to win it all. They say all their problems are fixable, but the attitude around the city is pure doom and gloom. My opinion, they will lose in AFC championship game versus Chargers.

No Way the Colts get far in the playoffs-love Peyton but no run defense and Tony (I can't win a playoff game) Dungy spell doom.

Bears are vulnerable especially with some defensive injuries and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Rex as QB but Chi-town aint no fun to play in during the winter.

I also think Philly might actually be better with Jeff G. at QB. 8 Touchdowns and 0 picks and the offense relies on him less and seems to put out a better effort than for McNabb

And yes Drew Brees is awesome-but I really liked him at Purdue-he had all the qualities of a winner there and has learned the pro game as well as any QB can.

First time I was aware of your blog bro-but I really like your style-keep it up

Dallas Fan here with some thoughts... San Diego did Breeze wrong. that shoulder injury was miniscule no matter what they say - it was on his non throwing side. as long as he can catch a snap with it, he was a beast. the owner wanted phillip rivers fro the start. Verdict: bush league. I wish he'd gone to dallas in stead of Bledsoe who was a good QB. the problem in Dallas? Parcells. the guy didnt do anything to help his offensive line this off season. the difference between Bledsoe winning a championship and sitting the pine? Blitz Pickup. he threw for 3700 yards last season and Billy-Boy starts the season calling 11 and 13 step drops. ROmo's mobility is covering for poor play calling. Peyton has been a choke artist since he threw his heisman into the arms of a Carolina DB, 4 times. Vince young, Phillip Rivers and Drew Breeze share one thing in common - throwing motion. 3 sideslingers, 3 winners. i wonder where is all the 'Vince is too dumb and inaccurate' talk now?

Norcal- I wasn't saying Favre wasn't any good, I know he tore up my team on Sunday. I just am tired of looking at him. He's holding on to the glory and he's gonna get hurt (if he's not already). But maybe he feels responsible for the state of Wisconsin

Demon - You think Bill's lost his edge, you don't like him?

Favre is fine IF he doesn't throw 40 times. He cannot be the focal point of the offense anymore. If they take that approach, I think Brett can be amazing again. You don't run your 3 best running the anchor leg in a race would you?

Brees is now in my top 6 QB's. The guy is a winner I love how he plays the game.

Orton is ####. Griese is the only guy capable of running the offense but Rex just bought himself the rest of the season with yesterday's game.

Indy doesn't need Vanderjagt, they have Vinatieri. THEY NEED DEFENSE!!!!! Thanks for dropping an e-mail on me BTW.

I was making a joke about Vanderjagt (more like Indy is in trouble, and nothings going to help them), it was tucked away and not effectively executed.

Your points are well taken.
