I spent a lot of time on the road this weekend listening to the "experts" talk about the BCS title game.  Here is the only way it makes sense to determine who plays the winner of Ohio State and Michigan:

#1 Louisville - if they win out they deserve to be in the championship game without a doubt.  They beat West Virginia who before they lost were considered one the the best teams in the country.  They still have to beat Rutgers who has a phenomenal defense.  If you are the only undefeated team left in a BCS conference then how can you argue against them being in.

#2 The 1 loss SEC championship game winner (if there is one) - Because of the way the SEC is laid out, going undefeated through that conference is unrealistic.  The only teams left that have that chance are Auburn, Florida, and Arkansas.  It would make sense that if one of those teams finishes the season with one loss they deserve to be in.

#3 1 loss USC - If you look at who they have beaten, if they finish with one loss it could be argued that should be number two, but I realize the SEC bias.  To finish with one loss it would be quite an accomplishment.  Unless USC's running game improves drastically this probably won't happen.  For USC to have one loss they would have beaten Arkansas, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Cal, and Oregon.  Wow!

#4 1 loss Texas/1 loss Notre Dame - Figuring out which one of these teams deserves it over the other would be beyond me.

#5  If it gets past these four scenarios I suppose you would have the rematch only people in Michigan and Ohio want to see.  What a shame it would be to have two Big Ten teams play for the National Championship.  What a sad day it would be for college sports.

I just hope over the last few weeks of the season we will have a clear cut answer on who deserves to be in!

I hope no Big East team finishes without a loss because it would deprive the country of a truly great national title game. Ohio State would score at least 50 on that L'Ville defense and Michigan would shut them down under 17 if necessary. Either way, it won't be a great game.

For it to be a great national title I think your #2 choice needs to get there - an SEC champion. Then the conference can't cry in the future for starters about how tough it is to get in there.

USC ain't beating Cal the way both teams are playing right now, and Notre Dame doesn't have any good wins so far (before you say it, Georgia Tech sucks).

Your #5 should include Cal because after all they have thus far rolled the Pac-10 USC style and are up on ND in the BCS. They won't make it, but will give some poor team more than they want in the BCS Bowl, probably the Rose against the Big-10 loser.

That is the great thing about the BCS, even though the BCS isn't great. It doesn't allow the polls to be overrun with what people think about a matchup. If Louisville goes undefeated they deserve to be in the championship game. What was the score of the Ohio State Illinois game? Number 5 Louisville scored enough points against the number 3 team in the country to win. Whose to say they can't do that against someone ranked number 1. Personally I don't care who goes, I just want the team that has earned it on the field to get a chance to prove it in the last game.

sportthink, you most defiantly put alot of thought into these team's and how it should play out. The one thought that I personally would of like to figure into it is a "PLAYOFF SYSTEM". You started out with Louisville which yes took care of West Virginia last week. While Ohio St and Michigan play the like's of Northwestern and Indiana, so they both gain another win. Louisville has to show the Nation it can beat a undeated team like they did West Virginia, then travel to Rutger's and take on the task of beating another undeated team, that is playing solid football. If you break it down I think if Rutger's can contain there passing game some and there "D" can keep there ground game covered. Rutger's only give's 92.1 yards on the ground a game. Louisville average's 39.4 point a game, while Rutger's average's 29.3. Louisville give's up 15.3 point a game and Rutger's only allows 9.1 a game. While Louisville blew them out last year, this is not the same team. Louisville is set to almost secure a stop in the Title game and Rutger's could sure open some eye's with a win. I'm way out on a limb, but I take Rutger's by 3and half. To be continued

The BCS has Florida in at #4. But you have to have a Florida Team ranked high, be it Florida or Florida St. But why the BCS has them at #4 the Coach's poll along with the AP Poll has them #6. The same holds true to Texas were there the #3 team in the coach's Poll #4 in the AP and sit at #5 in the BCS. If anything it show's is there has to be away to take all the poll's, work it into placing a "PLAYOFF SYSTEM". Good team's will be there , team's that had a bad day or got #### like Oklahoma would be afforded the chance to work there way through the bracket's at a chance to get to the final's. And then there are team's like Boise St that are setting there with out a loss, whiching that they would even be considered for a BCS Bowl and believe me when I say they believe they could compete with anyone on a neutral site. I say "PLAYOFF"s" is the only way to go. Soonermachine

Is this as close as a post comes to agreing with the BCS? I agree that teams that go undefeated should definately be considered as top choices for the Championship game but Louisville? I think they are going to lose to Rutgers, and Florida will lose to SC or FSU, Texas will lose to A&M and we all will be watching one of those Big 10 schools play Notre Dame.

I really don't agree with the BCS at all. Too much politics and too much worth put into the preseason rankings. I actually posted something about a playoff system on one of soonermachine's blogs. I was only saying who I think deserves to play for the National Championship and in what order they deserve it. It is definitely not a prediction, just some thoughts and some what ifs. I think what I really want to see is a close National Championship game that is not Ohio State vs. Michigan. I think there are too many wishful thinkers out there desperately hoping Louisville will lose for whatever reason. Why doesn't the country die for the cinderalla in football like they do in basketball? My prediction is Louisville rolls up Rutgers big time:

Louisville 38 Rutgers 17

datSTAR I have to agree with you on a couple point's. I to think that Rutger's is going to beat Louisville. And yes Texas will loss again as you say. If they want to do it in a fair manner. If the season ended to day. Have four Division's. they would be Ohio St and Michigan in two division's and Rutger's and Boise St in the other and format a playoff system from there. Now remember I said if the season was over today. Ohio St will beat Michigan. Rutger's will get past Louisville. So there are 2 team's out of the picture. That when Texas will think it will slid in there, not a chance, they too will get beat before it's over. It is still a wide open race. Time will only tell. Soonermachine
