MVP!! MVP!! MVP!! Mavs vs. Suns Game 1
May 24, 2006 | 8:51PM | report this

Wow another great game.  I thought the Mavs clinched it when Devin Harris buried the J with 4 seconds left.  But back on the other end the leagues Most Improved Player Boris Diaw hits a silky J for the game winner.

I'll get to the MVP candi and the MVP in a second.  Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki Drunker than Cooter Brown

This game had another fascinating duel.  Devin Harris continues to improve and amaze with thirty points and 5 steals.  That is some nice numbers from a youngster.  And then to have the fortitude to hit the "almost" game winner.  I am cheering for Nash and the Suns in this one, but I do not dislike the Mavs, so I thought that Harris J was a killer and fitting end to a great game 1 in Dallas.

But Then.  In the words of Will Smith "here come the MIP's" or maybe it was MIB.  Anyway the MIP Boris Diaw in traffic hits a tuff little hook for the real game winner.  That going along with his 34 points and 6 boards. Man it seems like Forever ago that he was averaging 4.8 points a game for the Atlanta Hawks, but that was last season.

Will Smith - Men In Black

Now Dirk and Nash.  WOW!!! Great duel from the old pals.  Dirk putting up vintage Shaq numbers with 25 points and 19 boards.  This is the same foreigner that many grilled for settling for treys and being soft in the paint.  Give Avery Johnson credit he is utilizing all of Dirk's athletic ability.  Dirk is driving and getting old fashion 3's and collecting 19 boards.  Great game.

And of course my boy Steve Nash.  Back-to-back MVP's for a reason. 4-0 in game 7's.  Comes into his old house and just puts on a show.  A breathtaking 27 points and 16 assists to go with 5 rebounds.  His team had basically lost with 3 or so minutes left down 9 on the road.  But ol Nashy drills trey's and dishes on the pic and roll and BAM a 12-2 run Suns up 1 with 30 or so tics left on the clock.  Awesome basketball.

Also Mr. I do everything Shawn Marion did everything as usual.  You just can't ignore his defense and offensive contributions.  Typical 24 points, 13 boards, 2 steals, and 3 blocks.  And that is just typical Marion.  Ridiculous.

Detroit Sports writing contest!!!

The questions.

1. Hottest pro spouse?

2. why I should advance.

The hottest pro spouse is right here.... KA BLAMM - O

First before I even tell you who's wife this is lets just judge the hotness factor.  This is not your protoypical barrell chested blonde athlete wife (not that anyone is opposed to that very respectable tradition).  This is an exotic golden beauty.  She gets points for not only being fine, but for standing out amongst the many hot athlete wives.  I got to give Greek super model Aleka Kamila 10 out of 10.

Now if this is not enough to get your vote.  Her husband will REALLY put her over the top.  This lady is the wife of none other than bugly ol Peja Stojakovic.  One of the uglier players in the NBA.  This isn't Ray Allen or Tom Brady's wife.  Not Jeter or A-Rod people.  Peja friecking Stojakovic.  Even if he is a millionaire this girl is Barry Bonds steroid pumped home run ball out of his league.

This pale, goofy toothed, hair parted in the middle mug Peja Stojakovicis married to that rocket bodied beauty above.  It is MAD-NESS!!!!!  Props to Peja.  He is my hero.

2.  I should definetely be in the next round because every good contest needs a little controversy.  And since I was not invited in the contest nor responded anywhere near the deadline.  Who better than ME should be in this contest.  And if you are still questioning just scroll back up to that Peja's wife.

MVP voters remorse? Shutup already!!
May 22, 2006 | 12:02PM | report this

Scottie Pippen, Ian Connor, or whatever other analyst wants to snipe Nash's MVP.  SHUTUP ALREADY!!!

Are you serious?  Have any of you been watching the NBA playoffs.  Did anyone tune in to game 6 against the Lakers in LA when the MVP dropped 32 points to go with 13 assists.  Not to mention all the baskets he set up.  He outdueled Kobe's 50 + not just by scoring but by setting up his teammates.  He is one for one in game 7's this playoffs.  So stop hating on him.

Outperformed this series?  Its going to game 7 isn't it?  He had one poor game where he scored just 8 points but even then he had 11 assists.  He has a bum ankle and chronic back problems and doesn't have the size to just rely on posting up.  He makes his money with quickness and shooting and his shot went through a cold stretch but he has STILL been able to create for his teammates.  He has had a double double in all but two of the 6 games.  Including games of 31 points and 12 assists, 17 points 13 assists, and 7 boards, and a horrible game of 17 points and 11 assists.  If anything Nash has been MORE MVP like than before the playoffs started.

I am sick of all the haterade and the Do you wish you voted elsewhere questions?  For who? Kobe? Nash knocked him out.  Lebron? Terrific terrific playoffs and well deserving of any votes but he is knocked out so if you voted for Nash over him in the first place I don't see how that should change. Nowitzki? Couldn't put away the Spurs in two elimination games and took a forced rushed shot in game 6.

But Cassell has been so terrific.  Sam Cassell is always terrific in the postseason.  He is the MVP of the Clippers. period.  This has been a great series and should be a great game 7.  But I expect the MVP Steve Nash to come through again.

So while you Hate on Nash for shooting poor in this series I will give him props for still finding a way to get his dimes and scoring average in the 2nd round of the playoffs WHILE his ankle, back, and body hurts AND his three's are off.

Everytime I have watched Nash this postseason I have seen him as MORE of an MVP than before.  Including when he blew game 4 against the Lakers and took all the blame.

He did lead his team back now... didn't he?

"I'd rather have Lebron James" - Scottie Pippen
May 18, 2006 | 4:20PM | report this

The bombshell right now by Scottie Pippen.  Saying Lebron is better right now than Jordan was at that stage.  Incredible statement.  Selling out the dude you won 6 Ships with.  Is Pipster being dead honest or does he still have a tiny Michael beef and knows how much this will bug him? Michael Jordan / Scottie Pippen I don't know maybe a little of both.  But let's face it.  Lebron exceeded expectations when he dusted the Wizards in the incredible fashion he did it in.  I was astonished but not shocked.

NOW I AM SHOCKED!!

Three wins in a row over the Pistons.  I am still in a bit of shock.  And it is the complete package.  A huge steal in the last few minutes forcing Big Shot Billups to foul out.  Lebrons scoring from the inside, outside, half court, fastbreak.  EVERYTHING.

Anyway just wondering what you all think of Lebron and if you put him over Michael.  I have to agree with Pippen.  At this stage Lebron is better.

oops Lebron's good, poker again, and the Golden Boy
May 16, 2006 | 12:58PM | report this

I just struck out looking.  Or dropped the ball or something of that sort.  Less than 24 hours after pumping up the Guaransheed pistons victory I am going to have to do some back tracking double talk... I hate doing that.  I'd much rather be right all the time but turns out...

I DONT KNOW ANYTHING!!!

Image PreviewI thought the Pistons was as sure as a bet as there is.   I know Lebron is filthy but the Pistons knew what they were doing and the first 2 games gave me a tidal wave of confidence heading to Cleveland.  I am not crawling away now I still think the Pistons are taking it... but... but... I have to give credit to the Cavs, the fans in Cleveland, and to Lebron.  Lebron is doing it all- a near triple double and a side serving of defense.  I won't compare him to you know who but he is looking more and more like you know who.

One thing about you know who is he put other stars past him.   John Starks may be his most memorable rival.  Even Magic Johnson's Lakers got crushed in 5 games.  And didn't we see the same thing happen to Gilbert Arenas. Go to fullsize image Gilbert played tremendous in that series but Lebron was just a lil better.  In the end Arenas will not remembered for being a scorers duel with Lebron but for missing 2 free throws in game 6 and getting burned on the baseline for the game winner in game 5.  Forget that Gilbert had just put his team up 1.  Its old news.  Guys like Lebron make other players remembered for what he did to them or forgotten altogether.

Speaking of Gilbert

He was playing poker at halftime of games?? I can not for the life of me get away from poker.  I used to love poker and played all the time in college. We would play all the silly games acey duecey, 5 card draw or stud, 7-27, 2-4-6, hold em - everything.  I loved it.  I wasn't unstoppable but always one of the better players and I liked that.  At the very beginning of this Hold Em take over the world phase we started playing nothing but Hold Em.  Great it has always been my best game and I started winning more and more money off my friends.  Then a funny thing happened.  Poker was on TV, then online, then every one was playing at work, celebrity poker, nobody poker, poker world series, books on poker, tapes on poker, Hold Em this Hold Em that.

Poker was in my dreams it haunted me when I did well and it haunted me when I did bad.

Worst of all was the "poker stories." You know the ones, the ones everyone in the world starting telling you or someone next to you.  "Then bam he catches the flush on the river."  "Of course I had pocket rockets"  "He goes all in with 4, 7 off-suit and flops a full house."

I dont care.

I don't want to see bugs bunny in an animated poker tournament on cartoon network, Idon't wan't to here how you lost to someone way worse than you - don't be so shocked it is gambling- I don't want to read about it, I don't even wan't to write about it.  But here I am doing just that.

Speaking of not knowing anything

De La Hoya just smoked Mayorga.  The Golden Boy once again looked bad.  And if you would have asked me a week ago what I thought would happen in a DLH vs. Pretty Boy Floyd fight.  I would have laughed.  Mayweather will whoop him like has everyone else.  What about the weight difference? Ha its nothing but a number to PBF!  He is quicker, badder, and smarter than any boxer in the world right now.  Oscar de la Hoya

But now that weight is looking a little scarier.  Floyd is getting a long way away from his earlier fights against other small guys like Corrales and Castillio.  When does the weight catch up to you?  And DLH is no punk.  Sure he sang for a while and sissyfied himself, but when he is focused and in the ring he is a tough hombre.  De La Hoya has taken some punches from guys alot bigger than PBF like Vargas, Mayorga, and Mosely.  He has swapped punches with guys like Tito, been humbled by judges and Bernard Hopkins.  This is a smart seasoned vet who also has a weight advantage.  It would not only be a HUGE money fight but a huge test for both fighters.  And now I have to say I dont know who would win.

Thanks JC for carrying the SportsNUTTZ banner as of late.

I am kinda bummed that the Guaran-Sheed didn't come to fruition last. Sheed's my boy, and I take everything the man says as the gospel truth. But he didn't foresee his own injury, made worse by his own poor 3-13 shooting and no relief at all from the bench (7 points TOTAL!).

I guess Sheed and his team just weren't "feeling"  the guarantee, and I don't blame them. It was a lame guarantee. As for as their teams go, Cleveland isn't in the same league as Motown. It would be like Vince McMahon predicting higher ratings and PPV sales than TNA (or the old WCW). It would be like Phil Hellmuth promising to bust Steve Dannenmann.  On one side, you have a history of excellence and dominance, and on the other side you have the inferior. It's not really going out on a limb, Sheed. Next time,  make a guarantee against a high-caliber squad (Heat, Spurs, or Mavs). Or if you're stuck with another #### opponent, guaran-sheed a sweep.

The Pistons must be like me, and their hearts just aren't in it right now. I'm just not that pumped about the NBA playoffs at this point. And I LOVE the NBA. Yet, ever since halftime of Game 7 between LA and Phoenix, I just haven't cared as much. (I got this same "letdown" feeling in the NCAA Tourney...pumped and excited for nearly every game, everyday...until the Huskies from UW were #### by the refs and lost to the Huskies from UConn. From that point, not much else mattered.) Kobe = ratings. Period. You don't ever see the Clips or the so-called MVP Steve Nash on Christmas day, do you? Yet the NBA always makes sure everyone opens their gifts under the tree with Kobe on their TV's year in and year out.  Phoenix and the other LA team are squared in a 2-2 series, yet game 5 isn't must-see for me. It'll probably take an elimination game to finally peak my interest.

Suns vs Kobe was DRAMA in the 1st round, but everything since has been a snooze. A Detroit/Miami conference final rematch is much anticipated...can the Cavs and Nets PLEASE let us see that series start now!?! And I hope the Mavs can finish the job versus the Spurs. I've been overloaded with them and Eva Longoria for the past 2 years because they made it seem like 10. Like JC is pulling for a De la Hoya/Mayweather boxing spectacular, all I am just looking for from the NBA playoffs is another classic confrontation.

Big Deal Rasheed!
May 15, 2006 | 2:00PM | report this

Rasheed Wallace is at it again.  Guaranteeing a win tonight and that they will not return to Cleveland.  I say BIG DEAL!!??  I guaranteed that last week.  So bring it Sheed!

I love me some sheed though.  Who else guarantees and backs it up as often as he does.  The Pistons were stuck in the Eastern Conference Finals until he pushed them over the edge.  He is the perfect mix of crazy, tough, and cool.  He has a bad rep for his on court technichals but remember it was Sheed in the famous paplace brawl that was the mature one policing both teams - no punches thrown by the salty vet.  He is equally complete in his game as his fiery personality, one of the best defenders in the league, a good rebounder, great passer and can score from the post, off the dribble, and from behind the arc.  Rasheed to me is one of the most underated players and leaders in the NBA.

PISTONS RASHEED WALLACE REACTS AFTER MISSED THREE POINTER

Give the man his props - he is an entertainer, baller, and a leader.  I won't go as far as to call him a role model though. So go get em Sheed.  Do yo thing.

Props to Lebron in game 3... bringing back the famous Harold Miner aka Baby Jordan dunk and doing it in a playoff game.  Too bad Sheed already put the stamp on this series!!!

Say AND Spray it!!!
