Reggie Bush got ripped off. We are talking about one of the greatest college athletes of all time and this is all he got? New Era Entertainment and USC got the steal of a century. I am pretty sure Matt Leinhart was making alot more than that, and he would not have accomplished half of what he did without Reggie Bush.
So lets just call it like it is. Indentured servitude for the University, the Entertainment company, and the Pac-10. I am more appalled that this is ALL Bush was getting. USC, NCAA, the Pac-10 and the NEE should all pay Bush what he was worth and give him a direct percentage of all the money he earned them in the National Championship games and Heisman hype etc.
If you want to suspend USC and take away schollies or whatever. That is fine but don't take Reggie's Heisman. If anything Reggie deserves TWO Heisman trophies not one.
That is not all Bush got, this is what he got and trust me, it ain't little.
$100,000 from marketing agents
$595.20 in round-trip airfare from San Diego to Oakland in November 2005 for Bush's stepfather, LaMar Griffin, his mother, Denise Griffin and younger brother to attend the USC-California game at Berkeley. The fees were charged to the credit card of Jamie Fritz, an employee of Ornstein. The document detailing the charges was provided by Lee Pfeifer, an estranged business associate of Ornstein's.
$250.65 for limousine transportation from the Oakland airport to the Ritz-Carlton in San Francisco that November weekend for the Bush family, charged to Fritz, according to a document. Ornstein acknowledged both he and Bush's family stayed at the luxury hotel.
Suits for Bush's stepfather and brother to wear during the Dec. 10, 2005 Heisman ceremony in New York, a makeover for his mother for the event and limousine transportation;
Weekly payments of at least $1,500 to the Bush family.
623.63 for a hotel stay by Bush at the Venetian Resort & Casino in Las Vegas from March 11-13, 2005, charged to Michaels, according to a document signed by Bush.
$1,574.86 for a stay by Bush at the Manchester Hyatt in San Diego from March 4-6, 2005, paid for by Michaels, according to a hotel document, a hotel employee and a source.
Approximately $13,000 to Bush from New Era to purchase and modify a car, three sources said.
As reported by Yahoo! Sports in April, $54,000 in rent-free living for a year at Michaels' $757,500 home in Spring Valley, Calif., according to Michaels and San Diego attorney Brian Watkins.
Also from previous Yahoo! reports, $28,000 from Michaels to help Bush's family settle pre-existing debt, according to Michaels and Watkins.
Thousands of dollars in spending money to both Bush and his family from the prospective agents, according to multiple sources.
If the NCAA rules that Bush received extra benefits during his playing career at USC, he could be ruled retroactively ineligible. He should get his heisman taken because it states that an athlete must meet NCAA eligibility requirements to be considered for college football's most prestigious award.
No it looks pretty bad for Bush and USC. This is a whole lot of documentation! USC is going to get some serious sanctions... unless they pay the NCAA off?
I agree leave the Heisman alone. But if Bush gets dragged through them mud in this endeavor I think the NCAA and award committees need to look into doing the same thing to everyone else responsible.
First and foremost....LOVE----Reggie Bush.(but what) USC...HIMSELF...FAMILY....FRIENDSSS S/// AGENT...AGENT....AGENT.....I think we should call him dollar bill. Truly, I believe that if a (AGENT)approaches a COLLEGE athlete....he himself should be held accountable for his actions. When you are young and inmature, coming from the streets: and doing whatever it does take to secure your family; than money talks....PUNISH THE AGENT!!!!!!
"I believe that if a (AGENT)approaches a COLLEGE athlete....he himself should be held accountable for his actions. When you are young and inmature, coming from the streets: and doing whatever it does take to secure your family; than money talks....PUNISH THE AGENT!!!!!"
first off, i dont care if he was "just a kid." he was over 18, and therefore should be held accountable for his part in it.
as should his parents, who damn well should have known better. when its all said and done, they make their son look like a cheater, when they were the ones that benefited the most from what took place.
blame the agent? abso####inglutely. but there's no way the agent(s) should get all the blame or punishment.
also, i think its stupid that the university gets punished for what a FORMER player did. not to mention the kids that wont get a scholarship to play there, that really deserve one.
take his heisman first, then reprimand the agent(s), then go after his parents for knowingly breaking NCAA rules.
sportsnuttz.......Naivete' or not Bush's judgement at best is questionable. If the allegations are substantiated he'll face a mountain of questions concerning the issue.
The Downtown Athletic Club may also have a say in the matter as they'll probably want to be part of the investigation as they'll not want the integrity of the club and its members impuned.
yo, this kid and his school need to burn. personally, i like seeing people get over. but he needs to go down because he was cocky and got caught. every year i gotta sit and listen to people #### about the USC's or the FLA's or the Oklahoma's who are beasts every season. you college football fans supposedly WANT parity. stuff like this kills any chance of parity. you dont really think any football player in his mind would pass up on Miami or even Florida #### Internation to freeze his #### off in michigan. have you seen the chicks at FIU? international broads and 11 months of summer would make up my mind about school. its cheating. i have no issue with cheating as long as you 1)do it in an intelligent fashion and 2)dont get caught - see point 1. he's insulting my intelligence by pretending like it didnt happen. had he not gotten special favors, he might not have gone to USC. Had he not gone to USC he would NOT have gotten the heisman. the RB out of Memphis was MUCH more impressive, but he wasnt even considered. #### reggie bush. i hope they take his heisman, USC's #### championship that they didnt deserve, and i hope he slips in the shower and sprains his ankle. he's a dumb ####. people shouldnt be rewarded for stupidity.

Although not in the same language I agree with everything Demonicume had to say. Not that D. was foul or anything but he summed things up quite nicely. Reggie's testimony about "no wrong doing" was as believable as his commercial about being drafted first in his fantasy draft with "friends". His "I'll take LJ with the second pick" #### was par for his course.
I'm not going to argue about how much money universities make and whether or not the players deserve to be paid. The simple fact is that they are just amateurs, and kids at that. There have been plenty of awesome college players who wound up as busts along with unheralded dudes who became stars. College football is what it is. That's an opportunity to get a chance to make mega-bucks as a pro athlete. Pay your dues in school and then earn your salary with the big boys.
College football is not the pros. Just because money is being made by their schools doesn't mean these guys straight out of high school deserve to get "paid" too. For every Reggie Bush there are 100 guys (probably more) who blew a FREE ride at an education who now have no true career aspirations because they could not make it in the NFL.
For the average schmoe playing college ball I say make the best of your free ride and do something good with your education. Don't cry to me or amyone else when your alma mater pulls in cash while you squander in obscurity because you were not the best of the best. Their free chance at a meaningful degree was alot more than many others could hope for.
Harsh perspective perhaps but you have to draw the line.

Wasn't the "original" idea behind no money etc etc going to a college player, the family and on & on so that the player wouldn't owe anyone, and then perhaps take a dive in a critical game?? So that the bettors would reap big bucks?? Also so that the player wouldn't be obligated to even shave points or the other way around to meet or beat the point spread?? Seems Bush didn't do any of these things, but still it is/was against the rules.
However, aren't this players, heavily recruited by colleges, getting paid in a way? They do not pay for books, classes, medical care etc. Of course the school reaps big bucks for their football program too/if the star somehow tanks, do they still honor his full scholarship & what about grade averages??
demonicume........Until some these AD's at the schools start taking their heads out of the clouds and deal with the problems they've got internally. Things like this are going to keep on cropping up.
Thank God the Canes got their #### handed to them as well as the Seminoles. Can't stand either of the teams. Both programs have regressed in the past couple of years but you can't tell their alumni that as they're of the belief that each year they're in with a chance of winning the national championship.
rampant fan hit it on the head. my last comment was a lil extremem, lemme clarify while hitting on the previous points... The ADs know whats happening. everyone knows. my issue with bush is that he was so blatant about it. the rest of us schmoes gotta sneak around when we cheat/ i eant him to go down because he was either too dumb or too cocky to take precautions. man, many players took dives under lou holtz here at carolina. they couldnt even look you in the eyes. go to the practice facility here, out front you see hummers, BMWs, ect. its hard to take a program seriously when these kids go from hard #### living to a hummer inside of 1 season. Bush should have just signed a contract with the guy. he HAD to have known that the agent would blow his cover as soon as he realized he got shitted. the kid was just too cocky to care - and that irritates me. everyone loves the 1000 dollar handshake.
demonicime.......Once again it just goes to show that college sports and the corrupt activities that goes on within it makes all others pale in comparison. There's no real compliance in many cases and it's a sham when you here a coach deny he knew what was happening. The Bliss affair at Baylor proves my point wholeheartedly ......and I'm glad that piece of 'pond scum' is no longer involved in the sport.
sportsnuttz..... You and I know that'll never happen unless the NCAA really means what it says by upholding its regulations. Then it has to go about trying to get legislation that covers the actions of agents and their involvement with student athletes before they become professionals. It's really as simple as that. I can't understand why they haven't done anything about it as of yet or than the fact they like the way things are being done.
If anyhthing they're just as complicit in some of these problems as the students and agents themselves by never investigating the allegations until it's too late.

sportsnuttz.....If that's the case then something ought to be done immmediately.
Likewise in the NFL and quite possibly the new commissioner Roger Goodell should deal with that as well as trying to deal with the Players Association and the renegotiation of the steroid policy to include tesing for HGH.
