Is it officially "Miller Time" in Dallas????
Feb 28, 2007 | 5:26PM | report this

So the last few days we have heard the rumors and speculation that Mark Cuban wants Reggie Miller to come play for the Mavs.  So is it a done deal?

Well a little while ago it was announced on the local DFW ESPN station that it is true.  Supposedly Reggie will be in uniform tomorrow night and playing.  I have searched website after website and have yet to find confirmation, so I can't promise this to be fact.

But how great would that be?  I think Reggie would be a great addition.  He has stayed superb shape since retiring.  Not to mention his stats speak for themselves.

So if this is the case, as a Mavericks fan I am very excited.  I can't wait to see how it all plays out.  So tell me what you think, is this good or bad for the Mavericks??

That's all I got!

Are you serious?

If so, I think you just scooped ESPN.

Nice work.

I heard about this this mornig on Mike and Mike. I'm not sure if it will be a good thing for Reggie or not. He has already been let down too many times. Does he really want to join the Mavs just to get so close again, and then watch his title hopes go up in smoke?

i heard this the other day....i want to say it WAS espn, but i might be wrong. i also read it yesterday on the ben maller/foxsports.com rumor page.

i know some mavs fans will bash me for this, but i think if mark cuban feels he needs a 41 year old who hasnt played in 2 years, he's a bit desperate.

couldnt he have made a trade before the deadline if he was worried about not having that one extra guy to get him a title?

when reggie played, he wasnt really known as a defensive stopper...my guess is he hasnt improved any since he retired.

i also doubt he has the ability to run around screens for very long to get an open look.

so, other than a few 3 point attempts, bad defense, and standing around hoping his guy leaves to double team dirk, what can he offer?

When was the last time that the oddson favorite won the title? I'm just sayin that the post season is a different story. Just b/c Dallas is a good regular season team, doesn't mean that they will make it to the finals.

All do respect Evil but just because they are good now, doesn't mean they won't make it either.

Very true. But, Dallas has also been known to choke when it all is on the line.

Since Mbenga is out for the season, Mavericks need a big body more than they need a guard. Actually, guard is probably the last position they would look for. But with an empty position in the roster, if a backup center is an impossibility and a reasonably good backup PF isn't available, then of course, getting Reggie would be great.

Nothing has been official yet, Reggie has not denied the rumors that he could sign with the Mavs. And I think, he deserves to win a title. Great player and equally great personality (just the qualities that is the make up of the Mavericks).

Evil,
You're in the wrong thread. There are a dozen other blogs where you could show your frustrations about Mavericks choking when they shouldn't. I just realized that you actually love the Mavericks. Good for you!

I'm certainly surprised. There is no way Reggie has stayed in playing shape. I'm guessing it would take weeks of playing (not riding the bench) to get into shape to play more than just a few minutes - but maybe that's what they want.

If so, and as a long time Pacer fan and Reggie Miller fan, GREAT. The guy deserves another chance to win a title. It ruins the mystique of having played for only one team, but a title outweighs that one, yes? Of course, if the Mavs don't win, ... Or, if they win but Miller plays just a few or no minutes - that would be a pretty sorry thing.

Reggie Miller? I thought they were talking about Oliver Miller. My bad. Is Mark Aguirre available also?? Detlef Schrempf, perhaps?

With the Mavs, and although Mavs use their bench a lot, he probably won't get much playing time. Anthony Johnson was probably traded for that reason, he wanted more minutes that Mavs could give him and sent him to a place where he would. His primary role might be to provide another veteran presence and to help counter potential injury situations. Mavs do have a roster spot open but are looking for Center first, PF second and guard third.

Even if he doesn't get a lot of playing time, and if Mavs win, at least Reggie would have a ring that he so deserves. Great player and equally great personality.
