Basketball's Ultimate Stat Version 2007
Feb 06, 2007 | 7:54PM | report this

Im Back.....after a two month break.........

I bring back one of my most popular blog the Ultimate Basketball Stat.

The Return of the Ultimate Basketball Stat is here:  Improved and Better than ever.  Here is the curriculum:

I am trying to Combine Points, Rebounds and Assists (doesn't include intangibles) into a stat category of its own (called star level. AKA....SL).

I gathered the top fifty scorers, rebounders and assiststers (averages not totals).

+++++++++++In order to qualify, players must be on pace to play 70 games or (on pace for 1,400 points, or 800 rebounds, or 400 assists). ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++

I then took the score of players who were in the the top 50 in two of the three categories.

I made every point worth two SL. Every rebound worth five SL and Every assist worth 7 SL.

Then I added and did the math (added SL's).

And out of the 150 candidates (in top 50 of all three categories: Points, Rebounds, Assists) 41 players made the cut (must have two of the three stat categories in the top 50).

Here are the top 41 in order. PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS THE WAY THE MATH PLAYED OUT NOT MY OPINION.

1.  Kevin Garnett, MIN 137 *******************
2. LeBron James, CLE 129 ******************
3. Steve Nash, PHO 121 *********************
4. Dwyane Wade, MIA 113 *******************
5. Allen Iverson, DEN/PHI 110 ***************
6. Caron Butler, WAS 109 ********************
7. G. Arenas, WAS 104 ***********************
8. Carlos Boozer, UTH 103 ******************
9. Baron Davis, GSW 102
10. Jason Kidd, NJN 102 ********************
11. Zach Randolph, POR 100
12. D. Williams, UTH 98
13. Dirk Nowitzki, DAL 97 ********************
14. Kobe Bryant, LAL 96 *********************
15. Tim Duncan, SAS 95 *********************
16. Dwight Howard, ORL 94 ****************
17. J. O'Neal, IND 92 *************************
18. Tracy McGrady, HOU 91 *****************
19. Elton Brand, LAC 88
20. Shawn Marion, PHO 88 ******************
21. A. Stoudemire, PHO 85 ******************
22. Vince Carter, NJN 82 ********************
23. Joe Johnson, ATL 81
24. A. Jamison, WAS 78
25. Tony Parker, SAS 77 *********************
26. Kirk Hinrich, CHI 76
27. Eddy Curry, NYK 74
28. Mehmet Okur, UTH 73
29. A. Iguodala, PHI 73
30. Mike Bibby, SAC 72
31. Luol Deng, CHI 71
32. Jason Terry, DAL 69
33. Ron Artest, SAC 68
34. Ben Gordon, CHI 68
35. J. Crawford, NYK 67
36. Mike Miller, MEM 66
37. Al Harrington, GSW/IND 65
38. G. Wallace, CHA 63
39. Monta Ellis, GSW 62
40. Earl Boykins, DEN/MIL 62
41. L. Barbosa, PHO 61

********Star denotes ALL Star Player. Shaq, Yao, Bosh, Rip Hamilton, Billups are all in the ALL star game but missed the cut.*******************

I myself am suprised with the accuracy of my lastest version, most all star players being in the top where they should be.

Other Notes: Nash is high because of his assists (he got 83 of his SL from assists, and the other 12 from points.). Gilbert Arenas got 59 of his 104 SL from points.  (Melo failed to make the cut). Garnett got 62 of his league leading 137 SL from rebounds. THREE PLAYERS WERE IN THE TOP 50 in POINTS, REBOUNDS, ASSISTS.......King James, KG, and underdog Caron Butler? yes, caron butler is the third one.

If you would like to check out my first version click on the link. http://community.foxsports.com/blogs/sportomax/20

I hope this time it made sense to everyone.  If not I will be willing to answer any of your questions. I am looking forward to hearing some suggestions on how to improve it whether it be to add more stat columns (Blocks, Steals, Turnovers, ETC.) or edit the current ones.

PLEASE RESPOND...........Thats iT foR nOw.

MY

Bal/Cincy-Must win for Bengals? This is a MUST WIN! game. Baltimore is on fire will Billicks calls, and the offense is almost as scary as their defense. But. I think the Bengals will win.
Thur/NFL-Thursday Game bad for NFL? Kinda good. I think moving the game to Friday is better. Lets have some "Friday Night Lights". and move it to a national network.
Owens-Defending Vanderjagt? T.O. zip it. Vandy sucks. Vanderjagt is a worse guy than T.O. Vandy said Manning stinks, that is a real arrogant comment. T.O. time for you to move on.
Raiders-Traitor in organization? I wouldn't doubt it. The Raiders are so bad. It all falls on the coach for not fixing the team chemistry. Moss once an MVP is now equal to a fifth string WR. The offense is bad. My advice clean the house.
Grossman-Will trash talk haunt bears? Yes, It will. I have picked the bears to win. But Grossman should never brag about anything. He has been terrible. 3 times worse than Jake the Snake Plummer. Don't blow it Bears and Grossman. Griese's on your heals.
Pujols-MVP should be from Playoff team? I agree with Pujols, only playoff contenders. If their an MVP their team should be in the playoffs. Howard is amazing but Pujols brought his team to the playoffs?

Giants-Fun Final Season? I would be mad if I was Tiki. He hasn't been getting the carries he has. And if it was my last year, I wouldn't be to happy.
Upset with Plaxico? Plax should have shown a little more effort then this wouldn't be a problem. Plax should be yelled at for his lack of effort.
Strahan Blaming Media? Strahan stay out of this. Be quiet and play. You haven't been doing your share.
Already Member of Media? Tiki, could be in the media next year.
Is Eli Regressing? Yes, every QB has set backs. He'll be so-so a couple more years then play like his bro.
Team Okay with Coughlin? All right guy. Won in J'ville, did good last year. Keep em.
Bad Move by Romo? Props to Romo. Keep it up.

Cutler-Chances Shanahan Regrets Move? 10? He has never played a snap, but I like him.
Carroll-Chances Carroll Coaches Cards? 25? He won't do it, USC is a College Football dynasty. He'll be there till USC is no longer good.
UNC-Chances UNC Wins it all? 15? I would take the field. Butler looks good, WSU, Kansas, Maryland, Duke.
Nate-Chances Robinson tries dunk again? 100? He'll it again. The knicks can't get badder.

TV Picks-Survivor and End of Bengals, Ravens game.

Strahan-Okay with Strahan's Behavior? No I am not. Chill. Boy. Chill. Get on with your game.
Cowher- Stay in Pitt.
Jazz- Good team. watch out.
Mavs- Be concerned.
LSU- I smell Roses.
Eva/Tony-Nice work.
Frazier-Who cares?
Central Mich or Ohio-I dont know any one on the team. So I will take the shorter name Ohio.

Good Night, Canada!

Thats it for now. (Comments accepted)!

Finding Ohio States opponent in the BCS Championship Game
Nov 19, 2006 | 8:54AM | report this

Ohio State is clearing the best team.

The Rematch-Michigan

I havent been a fan of the rematch because if they meet it will probably be the same score.  And Michigan just lost where as its been weeks since Notre Dame, USC and Florida have lost. Michigan still has a shot though, they need to be rooting for a close sloppy USC and Notre Dame game, UCLA win over USC.  Florida State and Arkansas to beat Florida.  Michigan had 6 quality wins, including two to one loss teams (Wisconsin, Notre Dame). Final Say: I would say they wont play rematch, but with Junior Henne, junior mike hart, sophmore manningham most likely returning next year. I see them as the DEFINATE NUMBER next year, list OSU this year.

Notre Dame

I had them playing Ohio State in the championship in the preseason.  There beat down by Michigan certainantly does not help them. Their last game of the year is against USC. They have arguable four wins against decent to good teams, leaving 6 wins against terrible teams. Jeff Samarzija, Brady Quinn, Darius Walker, David Grimes, Rhema McNight, John Carlson are just to much for USC to stop. Final Say: I would love to see them there in the title game but the easy schedule and the bad loss I dont think they will make it.

Florida

They have the best shot. One loss was to Auburn.  The 2 headed QB thing is situation works out perfectly. I do think there achilles heal is the running with #21 Wynn who has got only 600 or so yards which is a little over 50 yards a game. Florida often trick plays fool defenses and will continue to fool defenses. Are they going to option run, option pass, run, pass, reverse run, reverse pass, double reverse run, double reverse pass and so on. Final Say: I think they will play in the championship game.

USC

They probably have the toughest schedule of all of them. Beating Cal this last week, beating Nebraska, Arkansas, and Oregon (ALL RANKED IN TOP 25). Booty could have make a run for the heisman if they wouldnt have lost to lowry OREGON STATE. I dont think they will win out. Notre will be a dandy next week. The winner, has a GREAT SHOT AT MAKING IT TO THE TITLE GAME. Final Say: I think they will fall short against Notre Dame but beat UCLA leaving them out of the National Title hunt but in the BCS bowl games.

Dont Forget: Arkansas, Wisconsin, Boise State

Dont Count on: Louisville, West Virginia, Rutgers, Texas

FINAL SAY: Ranking the odds:

1. USC-only if they win out.

2. Florida-play safe and they have a shot.

3. Michigan-ahead of Notre Dame due to creaming of Irish.

4. Notre Dame-need to dismantle USC to have any shot.

5. Arkansas-takes over the roll of the Rutgers. Legit shot if they beat Notre Dame.

Comments appreciated.

Thats it for now.

NFL Week 9 Top 5 Games. Analyzed and Picked.
Nov 03, 2006 | 1:47PM | report this

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS AND PICKS OF the TOP 5 Games in WEEK 9 in the NFL.  Here is an example of the layout I use in picking teams.

Away AT Home-HOME 21-9
Away--W.12-17<Record of teams they beat (41%<Win % of teams they beat)(1.5<number of quality wins)       L.11-10<Record of teams that beat them (52%<Win % of teams that beat them) (1<number of bad losses)
Home--W.19-1(95%)(5)          L.6-4(60%)(0)

A team gets a quality win by beating a winning team.  A .5 in quality wins or bad losses is when they beat/lose to a 50% win total. A team gets a bad loss by losing to a losing team.

Dal AT Was-REDSKINS 20-17
Dal-W.10-19 (34%)(.5) L.13-9 (59%)(.5)
Wash-W.6-8 (43%)(1)   L-22-13 (63%)(4)

Other notes: I see an upset for some reason.  I picked the "Boys" at the last second last week. The Skins hopefully corrected their flaws in the week off. Sean Springs return should make a big difference. No Moss No Problem.

Cin AT Bal-BENGALS 17-14
Cincy-W.12-17(41%)(1.5)L.13-8(62%)(1)
Balt-W.16-19 (46%)(2) L.9-6 (60%)(.5)

Other notes: I like the Bengals in this one. I just think the Ravens O is not for real.  They can't really run. While the Bengals have a great O and an Okay D.

KC AT STL-CHIEFS 24-21
Rams--------------W.10-19 (34%)(1)         L.11-10 (52%)(1)
Chiefs-------------W.12-17 (41%)(2)         L.11-10 (52%)(1)

Other notes: By far the Hidden Game of the Week. Both teams 4-3. Winner will enter the spotlight of their conference losing will lose a lot of hope. Lots of scoring.

Passing Edge goes to the Rams. Running to the Chiefs. Specials Teams edges the Chiefs. Scoring is near equal. So I guess Ill go with...........the........Chiefs.

Den AT Pit-BRONCOS 28-13
Den-W.19-16 (54%)(3)L.11-14(79%)(0)
Pitt-W.5-9 (36%)(1)L.20/35 (57%)(1)

Other notes: As you know I am a Bronco fan.  But I see this as the one of games the Broncos could lose that they should win.  But I still think the Broncos will win.

Ind AT NE-COLTS 31-28
Ind-W.24-26(48%)(3.5)L.0-0 (N/A)(0)
NE-W.17-26 (40%)(2.5)L.5-2 (71%)(0)

Other notes: I see the Colts winning this win. Too much Manning.  The Pat's have only played one ELITE team the Broncos (Vikes, Bengals and Jets seem to be just

above average or at), and they lost pretty big. And the Broncos lost to the Colts. The Pat's will succeed at Running. But the Colts O is much better than the Pat's D.

You saw how Manning picked on D. Williams last week. He'll do the same this week.

There they are. Feed back is needed.

Thats it for now.

NFL Week 8 Rants, Picks, ETC.
Oct 27, 2006 | 6:02PM | report this

BOLD PICKS: (Maybe im a Guinness? maybe im knot). Well just have to find out.

Best Match Up: Broncos versus Colts.  I cant understand why the Broncos are favored by 3 points.  Litteraly ALL of the so called Experts on ESPN are picking the Colts. So why isnt the spread favoring Indy.  It could be because the Broncos are at home.

When the Broncos have the Ball:  Expect Tatum Bell to go crazy against one of the worst running D's in the league.  Jake should have an average performance (a Td and a pick).  Watch for Javon to play a huge role like he has.   I think the O-Line will fill the void of Matt Lepsis, with one of youngsters.

When the Colts have the Ball: Peyton should put up the same amount of yards but expect him to only have one TD against the great D.  Dont expect Addai and Rhodes to do much on O.  The Broncos D should force a turnover or two.  And watch out Elvis. Elvis Dumervil.

Something that everybody is overlooking is the past Games of the Colts. Sure they pretty much man handled the Skins but they needed a game winning drive to beat the Jets and the Titans.

The Pick: Broncos 14 Colts 13

Upset Alerts: Rams at Chargers:

Beaf on the Chargers: Personally the Chargers are overrated. They have played one winning team in which they lost (Ravens). (Who lost to the Broncos who lost to the Rams). The teams they lost to had a record of 6-18 (25%). The teams they lost to had a record of 7-5. I think Merriman will be key (Roids?). I WAS a fan of him until this last week.  LT is only good for TD's.  If you look at the stats Rivers is racking of the Yards not LT. Keep in mind there will be no Olshansky and Phillips.

Beef on the Rams: Torry Holt will never be old.  Bulger is on fire.  They are passing and running.  If it wouldn't of been for their hickup vs. the niners they could be 5-1.  Jackson is finding lanes to run through. This D has been very quite, that could hurt them. In the end Holt will be the Difference.

The Pick: Rams 27 Chargers 21

Other Notable picks:

Bengals 20 Falcons 17 (Too many Johnsons)
Saints 35 Ravens 10 (Saints might have biggest home field advantage)
Panthers 17 Cowboys 14 (Final Drive Fails for Romo)

Let me know if you agree or disagree.

Thats it for now.

The BCS Top Ten
Sep 24, 2006 | 8:04AM | report this

This is how the BCS SHOULD have the top ten:

1.  Ohio State: Easily the Number One Team, clobbering the Horns and handling Petterno's squad.

2.  USC: I thought this would be a down year.  But I thought wrong Booty, Moody, Jarrett, and the next STEVE SMITH are doing well.

3.  Auburn: Irons and Lester are bringing back memories of Brown and Cadillac.  This team didn't impress much last week but this week they did.

4.  Florida: Like the game plan this last week.

5.  Michigan: Thought this would be a suprise team,  Mario Manningham is one of the TOP WIDEOUTS IN COLLEGE BALL.

6.  West Va: Would be fourth but they almost lost to East Carolina.

7.  Texas: The Horns look like a team that has solved their issues.  Might be a different outcome if they played Ohio State again.

8.  Lousville: Thought Brohm and Bush would put them at the top of the league but I guess it will be impressive backups Cantwell and Smith/Stripling.

9.  Virginia Tech: This team has been impressive.  Like the talent of Ore.  Little scary but still pulled it off.

10.  Notre Dame: If they would of loss they would have been possibly out of the Top 25.  But that comeback by Quinn and the D puts them just in the ten.

WATCH OUT FOR ______________________ TO CRACK THE TOP TEN BY THE END OF THE SEASON:

LSU

IOWA

TENNESSEE

CLEMSON

BOSTON COLLEGE

Week 3 Picks
Sep 23, 2006 | 2:33PM | report this

Here are my picks:

Chicago over Minnesota,  I don't think this is as close as people think it will be.  Minnesota's offense can't beat the Chi town D. Chicago 20, Vikes 6.

Bengals over Steelers, The Steelers look pretty shaky.  I have some questions about them now. The Johnson seem to be on a roll.  Bengals 24, Steelers 10.

Jets over Bills,  The Bills aren't that good. Repeat they aren't that good. They did win but not to impressively.  I am by no means on their band wagon.  Jets 10, Bills 7.

Carolina over Tampa.  If Smith had been playing the Panthers would be 2 and 0.  Smith will take a half to get back on track, but should handle the Buccs.  Panthers 28, Buccs 13.

Packers over Lions.  Most are giving this win to the lions, but I am not.  Packers looked better last week versus the Lions. Pack 27, Lions 20.

Texans over Redskins. Upset of the Week. Portis won't click right away.  Watch for Carr to take control, while Brunell continues to struggle. Texans 24, Skins 16.

Indy over Jags.  I have some doubt in the Jags. And it seems like the Edgeless Colts are more of an aerial assault. Colts 44, Jags 27.

Miami over Tennessee.  Daunte should get back on track versus the bad Titans D.  Watch for Ronnie Brown to have a good game. Fins 17, Titans 3.

Baltimore over Browns. BLOWOUT!!!!!!!!!Nothing more to say. Ravens 42, Browns 6.  Okay maybe more like 34 to 9.

Arizona over St Louis. This is one of those games that could be close or a blowout for either team.  I got the Cards, after seeing the poor play from the Rams. Cards 28, Rams 12.

Phily over San Fran. Second Blowout of the Week. San fran is so overrated, i think? Stallworth and McNabb should go crazy. Eagles 42, Niners 9.

Giants over Seahawks. GAME OF THE WEEK. If this would be played next week I'd take the Hawks.  I don't think Branch will "click" with the O.  Close game still. G-men 31, Hawks 27.

Broncos over Patriots. Some will call me a home boy, but I think Shanny will have a better game plan after Jake is more confident after taking a rather easy playbook. Broncos 18, Pat's 15.

Falcons over Saints. I would love to see the Saints win, But I don't think the Saints D is good at all. Offensive Showdown. Falcons 31, Saints 27.

Thats it for now.
