You often hear the bantering back and forth on this blog of who's team is better.
A couple of years ago a guy who really wasn't a fan of any baseball team decided that he was going to SHOP AROUND for his loyalties, and opened up for TEAMS to try to persuade him who to root for. I don't remember what team won but I know the guy was unindated with offers of jerseys, autographed balls, tickets, and stuff like that.
What I'm looking for is a spokesperson for each respective team.
I would like to get a feel for the team that you root for, the athmosphere that surrounds your team...i.e..the ballpark, historical players, colorful players, traditions, team charities, events, all those little quirks and stuff like that. In other words HARDCORE fans who have an understanding of their teams but have the diplomacy to put across their teams in the best possible light.
We all hear about the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Mets, and high profile teams and their histories. Let's get the skinny on all the rest too. We'll learn alot about what's important to each other.
What I'll do is this: I will take one blogger for each club. Then starting Sept. 1st you'll have a day that week to post ON YOUR BLOG, what it means to be a fan of YOUR TEAM. I want you to remember you will be representing your fan base. So be informative. This will also give you time to form your perspectives and put them on a rough draft before you actually blog.
The winner will be voted on by the bloggers on this site on Sept 8 & 9. And can be clearly seen by all. I'm also looking into asking a panel of 3 judges who are NOT BASEBALL fans to JUDGE the quality of the information. Their opinion would count as 20% of the voting tally. This hopefully would offset biased voters who would vote for their team regardless.

Sept. 7th gives bloggers the opportunity to go back and review blogs that were posted throughout and to be fair to earlier blogs so that they're not forgotton.
Those are the slots. First come first serve. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. I used to sell sports memorabilia, and I have a few trinkets laying around.
Hey Rev. That doesn't stop you from picking another team that you might like also. I'm a SAWX fan, but I also love the Pirates with their rich history and the Indians.
I've asked three bloggers and I'm awaiting they're replies. One's a football blogger, the second is a NASCAR blogger and the third is an all round blogger who dabbles in a bit of everything. If one of those three decline or can't for some reason fulfill the judging, then you're in. You can be an alternate judge, that is if you don't want in on the action.
This contest is a great idea. Fandom is something unique for every fanbase.
I could do the Cubs or White Sox, but as a fan of both teams I'm in the minority for either side. If no one else volunteers for them (and I imagine that won't be the case) I can do one.
As for Devil Rays fans, I've seen a few on here. There's this one and this one. Neither of them has updated in a while, but there are a few out there. Hopefully someone will be able to do it.
Ian2813 take your pick. Either one would be fun for everyone to get to know better. I know there's alot of ChiSox fans on here. Cubbies I've seen a few too. Grab one before it's gone. And the nice thing is you'll have time to write a convincing argument. Give it a GO! Thanks for the info on D-Ray fans, I may need to hook them up.

OK then, I'll take the White Sox. Not because I like them better (my love for each team is different but equal), but because I think they'd be more interesting for me to write about. I look forward to this challenge.
You're in Ian2813. Not only will we learn more about everyone's favorite teams it's also a good way to hone the old writing skills. Good luck and most of all have fun with it.
Enough of this Devil Ray bashing already! I am a life long, til the day I die Red Sox fan. I am also a Rays season ticket holder and have become rather sympathetic towards them. I can't even go to the ball yard when the Sox are in town anymore. I feel bad that Red Sox colors outnumber Rays green 3 to 1. I have to go to Atlanta and Dallas to see the Sox play.
Rev, you should be ashamed of yourself, you just live a few miles down the road. You want my tickets for the next three games? Too late, I already gave them away.
Hey BoSox pick up the Devil Ray cause and run with it. There are numerous reasons to become a RAY fan. They have got tons of young talent. And it's a young franchise that can only go up. Not to mention that they are still affordable to watch.
Whats up Socrates....I would put myself down for the Giants but I will be gone for a week and I don't get back till the 3rd of Sept. but you have a great idea here, I will be on a cruise to Alaska, but I am taking my laptop let me think about this, take care!
huuu what kind of a question is that?? becuase im not a bandwagon jumper, you know thses idiots who only root for winners... example ive been a university of oregon ducks fan for yearsssssss win or lose football, basketball, softball...and even when they make stupid mistakes adn wow ive seen my share of them fumbles, turnovers in basketball, dumb playes in softball.... now ive got make this point ok recently our new AD has brought back mens baseball, why in my view becasue of the fact of the 2national championships won by the oregon state beavers.... now the point is recently oregon was all ready to build a new basketball arena.. then i think when osu won the 1st ncaa (baseball) it started to maybe make oregon think baseball returns?? ive recently havent heard of much about the basketball arena??? my feelings are yes baseball is a great sport... but lets consentrate on teh basketball areana i think its more important then baseball (its called politics) our new AD is a bigg baseball fan whitch in my thinking , put an end to the new basketball arena. mac court our currnet basketball court was built in 1926 yea i love it, one of the toughest places to play for the visitors... but i agree we need a new court... lets put baseball on hold but not now (BAD MOVE) oregon
Hey Vearl, You can do this buddy! The Giants are in the N.L. West so you won't have to post up until Sept.5th.
Alaska now that will be fun. My wife wants to go swimming with the Orcas. SHE'S NUTS. I still love her though.
You'll be going at a good time, not to cold but a good nip in the air.
You'll have a great time. Talk to you when you get back.
Hey Kelly not sure what to make of your comment but here goes. It's admirable you've been a Duck fan through good and bad times. That makes you a fan not a bandwaggoner. Now I believe you're saying you think we should concentrate on basketball. That's o.k. that's your passion. Kudos to you. But it is STILL baseball season and for those of us who love the game we believe let's end the season before we concentrate on basketball. Thanks for dropping by.

Cool Vearl! Hey you can still do the Giants. You can E-mail me it. If your not back in time I can post it for you. See YOU can do it! VEARL! VEARL! VEARL!
Ill take my cleveland Indians. and go all the way back to Buddy Bell, Gamble,Kiper,Manning,Ray Fossy and even the Bougster ! Oh yeah and a guy name Dennis Eckerslee. Yeah I know its been awhile and need to look up names to spell them right . lol
Marty, Marty, Marty. The BIG RED MACHINE huh? Well I've seen you in your avatar and it fits. 1975 was a good year. Beat my SAWX. Morgan, Bench, Rose, Perez,Concepcion, and alot of history behind the inaugural team, The Red Stockings. I'm sure you will represent them well. Good Luck!
As far as Idaho goes, it is beautiful here. Went to Lake Alturus last week and the trout were jumping. I'll fish a little, but only photograph the wildlife. There's elk, deer, black bear, hawks, bald eagles, and wolves here. It's just a naturalists paradise. It was a blast

ksp113, heard the rebroadcast of the show Wednesday. Great Job. The Orioles with Palmer...BOOG Powell...and their rich history are yours. Here's your chance to blast the rest of the A.L. East out of the water. Good Luck!
Hey Mean our WIZARD of basketball. How are you doing? Ready to pinch hit? Hey Jordan gave the rawhide and lumber a shot, how 'bout you?
You got the writing part down, now just grab your team. Pretend your Kareem doing a skyhook, or Dr. J slamming over Debusser. You can do this Mean.
The Cubbies are my lifelong team, but I've got such a heavy work load these days. That's why I'm sliding back into thigns slowly. I certainly can't commit. Look, I'll keep my eyes on this then play it by ear.
'If' I get even the slightest opening, I'll give you a holler.
I am down with that. I am surprised that you did not think of me when you were writing this. Not to diss the Riv, but I am Yankee blue and blue, baby. How could you diss me like that man? It's all in good fun!
Last edited by broblog on August 20th at 10:04 AM.
You both are blue and blue. And you're BOTH the real deal when it comes to being Yankee fans. Minus the rude part. I put it out for Rivjo because I knew he would want in on it, and like you knows his stuff. No diss intended. Like I say all the time I'm only allowed 6 maybe 7 Yankee friends. You, Rivjo, 1steeler1, are valued rivals. And good people. He was just the first that came to mind. I was listening to the rebroadcast of Izzy's show when I was writing this down.

I'll be gone for most of the afternoon but feel free to #### up your team. Just call it so there's no confusion and it's yours.
By tonight I expect 20 teams to be gone and hope fully by Wed,/Thurs. the rest will fill out. If people don't snag teams I'll seek out fans of those teams and get them filled.
Hey Lise I thought about asking you to be a judge, but then I remembered you are a BIG ANGELS fan. Sorry someone snagged your team already. But I'm going to do a NFL one in Sept. I'll E-mail you when I get it going.
Residing in Boise, Idaho with my wonderful wife and two of the greatest kids a Dad could hope for. No I'm not a potato farmer! New Englander at heart, raised in the Northern Connecticut Valley where I learned to love the Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins, Celtics, and UConn Huskies. I get my passion and fire from my mother's side. She was 1/2 Sioux and Irish. My Dad's side were the sport nuts. My favorite big leaguers: My Great, Great, Uncle, Larry (Nap) Lajoie, Ted Williams, and Nomar Garciaparra. Yankees S**K. Moved to Calif. in my early 20's, Lived there for 25 years. Got the hell out before it slips into the Pacific. Which I hope it does! I learned that hard work and determination gets you places. I'm the the bitters in your coffee and the thorn in your side.
Sauerkraut is just cabbage gone bad and I wouldn't feed beets to my worst enemy. Unless you're a Yankee, Raider or Laker.
