Les Miles:  Miles is going to Michigan, Miles is staying at LSU, or Miles is acting like Saban?  The choice is easy;  Miles pulled a Saban.  Remember when Nick said he wasn't going to the Dolphins, then later on he said he wasn't going to Alabama.  Well he was just waiting for the best offer and Miles is doing the same thing.  LSU has reportedly renegotiated his contract so he could stay at LSU, but I will not be suprised if he still moves on to Big Blue because of more Green.  Money talks, and whichever team ponies up the most dollars will get Miles.   I for one think Miles would be an #### to take the Michigan job and he will stay at LSU.  He walked into a program that was winning and had loads of talent.  If he leaves he is going to a Big 10 team that is in dire need of rebuilding and is the fourth or fifth best team in the conference behind Ohio State, Illinois, and Wisconsin.  Miles can stay at LSU and keep on winning, or move on to the Big 10 and struggle.  Hmmm, he has LSU over a barrel, they will pay him a huge addition to his contract, and he keeps on winning.

Jason Whitlock:  I like Whitlock, and for the most part I agree with much of what he says.  The only problem I have with his article is the timing.  I understand why he wanted to get out in front of the arrests and blame it as black on black crime.  In fact, 3 of the 4 arrested were black, so it appears he was write on that count, but it is appearing more and more like a botched robbery attempt.  That does not change the message that Whitlock is espousing.  There is a black ####, and drugs are definitely tied to violent crime.  Sean Taylor was hanging around a bad element.  At least one of the accused was at his house earlier that month for a party.  All of the accused have a rap sheet a mile long littered with drug charges and petty theft.  So in a very real sense Whitlock was right, but where he went wrong was in his timing.  There was no reason to write this story this week.  The message could have waited until Sean was buried and in the ground.  Whitlock could have waited until Taylor's grieving parents had a chance to bury their son.  Whitlock would have then had more evidence for his story and he would not have to recant any of it.  I still like Whitlock, but he falls into the same trap as many of us do in blogging, and that is trying to beat everyone to the next story.  If your story has merit, it can wait to do it right.

BCS:  I hate to see Ohio State slide into the national title game, but it appears that will happen.  Who gets to play them and probably beat them?  I hope LSU gets to go because I think the winner of the SEC title game should get some extra consideration, but I really don't think it matters.  I think Ohio State will be overmatched by either Georgia, LSU, or even Oklahoma.  Ohio State has not played a game in several weeks and they will be rusty.  For sure the old tune about a national play off is about to be sung by every college football analyst on ESPN and every other network.  Never mind that the BCS has gotten it right the last few years and in the end the eventual winner will have a solid case for their title, we want more football games.  We want to erase all doubt.  Can I just say that even with a college play off, there will be those who argue that someone was left out, a missed call cost the real winner a game, and that had teams been seeded differently we might have a different winner.  The only way to have a true champion is to go undefeated and then win in the BCS Championship game.   Wait, what about Hawaii?  I guess going undefeated doesn't mean much.

Auburn Wins The National Title Again
Jan 09, 2007 | 8:35AM | report this

A few years back, 1993 to be exact, Auburn ran the tables and went a perfect 11-0 under head coach Terry Boweden.  Unfortunately, they were under probation because of Pat Dye's transgressions and could not participate in post season play and therefore were not awarded the National Championship title they deserved.  Auburn went on to win every game the next season until the last game of the season where they lost to Alabama.  A pretty impressive winning streak.

In 2004, the Auburn Tigers went undefeated but they were not invited to the BCS title game because USC and Oklahoma were also undefeated.  Auburn won its bowl game but was not awarded the BCS crown.

Well, I say it is time to rectify those two injustices.  Seeing as how the Florida Gators demolished the Buckeyes last night, proving once again that the SEC is the premier conference, we should award the BCS title to Auburn who was the only team to beat the Florida Gators.  Isn't that how it should work?

And just for all the SEC and Auburn bashers, Auburn beat Nebraska and the SEC RULES!

BCS Got It Right: Who Else Thinks So?
Dec 18, 2006 | 7:38AM | report this

For the record, I do think a play-off is the only way to settle who the best team in the country is.  I was not always in favor of a play-off system, but when Auburn got #### out of the national title game a few years back, I realized it was the only way to find the true champion.  With that said, the BCS has pitted the two most deserving teams against each other the last couple of years.  Does anyone think that USC vs. Texas was not the right match up?  I didn’t think so, and I think the BCS got it right this year.

Ohio State deserves to be in the big game along with Florida.  The arguments have been made that Michigan was ranked number two for two weeks prior to the SEC Championship game.  The trouble is that rankings change each week as you play more games and Florida played one more game than Michigan and they won.  The voters chose Florida which is their prerogative and therefore Florida deserves their shot.

Lastly, all of this will be settled shortly after the new year.  I for one believe that all of the Michigan fans will be silenced when USC drums them in the Rose Bowl.  USC lost a close game to UCLA and will be ready to exact revenge on Michigan.  The Rose Bowl is home field advantage to USC and they have not lost two games in a row in like five years.  When that happens, who will still think Big Blue deserved a shot at the title?  I also want to go on the record as saying I think the Gators will beat the Buckeyes in Phoenix for the national title.  For those who are so sure that Ohio State is going to win, go to the Fox Bowl Pick’em and enter.  I have set up a league just so that we can all go on the record with our picks.  If you are man enough to belittle the SEC then go ahead and pick all your winners and in the end we will see which conference reigns supreme.

New Sports Franchises on the Horizon
Jul 28, 2006 | 11:16AM | report this

Rumor has it that several new franchises are on the horizon.  The NBA, MLS, and Xtreme Sports, are forming new teams.  Even the coaches are coming up with some new clinics so they can stay on top of the latest changes in sports.   Somehow I managed to get the scoop on these new teams that will go before their respective leagues and attempt to enter the field of competition.

NBA

Hezbollah Rockets:  These guys are not all that accurate from the charity stripe, but they never give up.  They will bomb all day from three point range.  Their percentage of shots made to taken is not that high, but it drives the other team crazy as they come out farther and farther to guard them.  Like their mascot, these guys are dangerous.

SOCCER

Hamas Gorillas:  These guys are “explosive” scorers.  They play the entire field often finding themselves off sides, but the UN officials are inept and miss this infraction all the time.  It drives the opposing Israeli team mad.  They are sneaky hard to cover as they are always running. (Do those outfits remind you of anything?)  Whatever you do, do not get into a shoot out with these guys as they are relentless.  Be careful if you are guarding them as they are not afraid to mix it up down low and are very volatile.  Red Cards mean nothing to Hamas.  Many a Hamas #### is willing to “head butt” the opposing team even if it means being banned for life.

X-GAMES

Al-Qaeda Crusaders:  The Al-Queda Crusaders are known for their fervor on and off the field of competition.  They are very involved in “extreme” sports which favor individual accomplishments which bring them their fame.  They tend to enter the arena of competition with a “big ####” and then run and hide at the first sign of resistance.  Some have threatened to make a showing at the Winter Olympics at Turin only to skip the entire competition leaving the USA to take home the Gold in most of the X-Games.

COACHES CORNER

Taliban Trainers:  If ever there were a team name just for coaches, it would be the Taliban Trainers.  Specializing in instructional mini-camps, these guys are formidable trainers.  They can prepare you for the fight of your life and the accommodations; well let’s just say that they provide some of the best natural habitats in the world.  Whether it is spelunking, riflery, or grenade tossing competition, these guys are good.

REFEREES SCHOOL

United Nations Zebras:  With the addition of several new teams the demand for more referees will come.  Any league is only as good as its officials and I can guarantee that these guys will make sure that these teams look impressive.  It is imperative that they get the right training so that they can enforce the rules of “competition.”  This organization is just the one to ensure that our combatants obey the rules and to mete out numerous infractions as they see them, just don’t expect them to actually come to blows with anyone as this would be against the terms of their labor agreement.

*The events of the last few weeks show us that there are many things more important than sports.  The life and death struggles of people in foreign lands and our troops fighting for freedoms that we hold dear in America are so much more important than any sporting event.  With that said, sports can be a diversion from all that is wrong in this world.  I tried to come up with some new team names based upon some of the serious events which have shaped our lives in the past few years.  Hopefully you will see the irony and the satire in each team name, but if not, feel free to post your own thoughts.*
