What is Happening?
Oct 10, 2007 | 9:25PM | report this

It has been so long since I have had time to devote to Fox Sports that I almost feel like a stranger.  I see new names on the blog site all the time.  While I have some great ideas on topics I want to write about, my time is so limited because of my obligations at school that I just can not do it justice and spend the time with my family that I need.  That doesn't mean I am not interested in what is going on in here; in fact,  I have a few questions I would like answered if anyone has the time.

1.  Who won the Miller Nascar writing competition?

2.  Why does Fox have a whole tab dedicated to the NHL and yet not one headline about the start of the season?

3.  Why does soccer even have a tab?

4.  Why doesn't Marion Jones get the same kind of treatment Barry Bonds does?

5.  Why would George fire Torre without a replacement in mind.? Reminds of one A.J. Smith firing a Marty for a Norv.

6.  Why don't we see more of the Dallas Cowgirls?

7.  Why did the Masters give ESPN two days of coverage for next year?

8.  Why do we keep hearing about how great teams are with losses and not enough about teams that are undefeated?

I'll stop with 8 for now, but when I find time I will write some on some of those great topics I have in mind.

Hey socal, welcome back. Good post, very thought provoking. Here are my answers.

1. klvalus
2. no one gives a rat's #### about the NHL
3. I've wondered that myself.
4. Because no one gives a rat's #### about track and field.
5. Because Ole George is feeling his age and is losing his fire. READ: he's getting senile.
6. They have EIGHT nationally televised games. Any more exposure and they'll have to get treated for sunburn.
7. They wanted a vehicle to pimp it overseas, and ESPN is a good vehicle.
8. The media have their favorites.

Just my honest answers.

1. Not sure
2. Good question. I guess they don't televise any NHL games, so it's not one of their interests. Too bad, too. The NHL is one of the best sports going. Or at least it used to be, before that Bettman guy took over.
3. What's soccer?
4. Both were allowed to do it at the time. I'm tired of saying it.
5. Ditto. I made the same comment on a blog last week when someone said Willie Randolph should be fired. In favor of whom? I don't think Sparky Anderson is looking for a full time job.
6.
7. Don't know why this is a problem. CBS still owns the weekend. Not much change there.
8. Not sure what you are hearing, but I'm not hearing the same. But could it be that there are some teams with one loss that are better than unbeaten teams? (Psst. This happens every year. In both college and pro. Lots of football left to be played yet).

i'll do my best to answer these (as usual, in reverse order)

oh, and you've got 8 questions, not 7.

8. because michigan, USC, ND, florida and those teams arent supposed to lose, so when they do, it's big news. plus, about the time espn or fox jumps on the bandwagon of an up-and-comer, they lose (see: kentucky).
7. who cares? golf blows (that natalie gulbis is hot though).
6. watch CMT. chances are, they're having a "making the squad" episode on where chicks try out for the cheerleader squad. really lame, but they look good. (i turn off the sound when i watch it on those rare occasions)
5. because he's (still) an ####?
4. because she runs (ran) track. who cares about track? oh, and i think about the same of her as i do about bonds. how's that?
3. you can still get Tab?
2. it's too early for hockey, and it blows anyway.
1. elizabeth bennett came out of hiding in time for the finals and won by a landslide over kobe bryant, proving once again kobe got #### by a biased, uninformed, jealous group of individuals.

i hope my answers shed some light on things for you.

SoCal, hey....soccer's still a great sport, but No. 4 is the question for me. Are you referring to Marion and Barry both perjuring themselves? I got the impression Marion worked a deal of some sort because fines and a possible sentence for her are pending. She's also broke, so perhaps she felt a need to rid herself of guilt and gain exposure or support for her finances. She probably needed a little old fashioned pity party. But why is Floyd Landis still seeking to clear his name?
Can't see Barry doing any of the above. Track and baseball are governed so differently. MLB wasn't about to lower the boom on Barry during his record chase. He's still under investigation, no? The jury's still out. He may very well still get the same treatment as Marion. We haven't heard the last of these two.

Socal I felt the same way while I was taking a break from the blogs. A lot of new blood coming in which is good.

1. No clue
2. It's allegedly the 4th major sport even though it really isn't. Im Canadian but I care about baseball in October.
3. Boxing should have one before soccer
4. Double standard between baseball and the Olympics. Maybe its applied that Olympic athletes are suppose to cheat while baseball you aren't.
5. He would have axed him already if he had a better option. He doesn't have a better option - unless he thinks Joe Girardi can take them all the way.
6. The Cowboy product is better as of late? (still not a good reason)
7. Because ESPN is taking all the sporting events they can.
8. Hype. If you don't have it to begin with it's tough to be recognized.

All questions deserving of an answer to be sure.

And, yes, lots of new faces, bro. You gotta get out more so they'll know who you are.

Best ...

I did bglady. Hey, you need to go in and edit your team in our Fantasy league. You should have won this week, if you would just add a QB and one more player on a bye week.
