The landscape of college football is changing fast as is my new top 5. While some may disagree with my choices, no one can deny that LSU is still undefeated and deserves the number one ranking.
5. USF: The were ranked number 6 going into tonight, and they won. They should move up and until they lose they deserve their ranking.
4. Hawaii: Still undefeated and scoring loads of points. I know I am the only one who thinks they should be ranked this high, but I would love to see them face USF in a big bowl game this year.
3. California: Unfortunately they will lose to USC as USC tries to make a case for why they should still remain in the BCS hunt. I expect USC to dominate from here on out, but its too late.
2. Ohio State: Still undefeated and heading towards a BCS bowl berth. Should they run the table in the Big 10, and it appears they will, the Buckeyes will end up in the national title game again vs an SEC power house. Too bad, because I expect the same results.
1. LSU: What a game tonight against Florida! It is going to be some showdown if Florida ends up as number one in the east in the SEC.
How could you rank Ohio State ahead of Cal when Cal had a bye week and they were ranked ahead of the Buckeyes? Purdue was BARELY ranked in the top 25. I think Ohio State loses to either Wisconsin or Michigan, more likely to Wisconsin. I think Cal runs the table in the Pac 10, with Arizona State being the toughest test. An LSU vs. Cal national championship game seems likely. LSU survived its toughest test tonight. Cal still has its toughest test, and it's not against USC. It's against Arizona State in Tempe.
Should not be any question about who is # 1 now!!!
Myabe Hawaii can play a real football team sometime this season. They are definitely not BCS caliber.
Hope L S U can get a shot at S. Cal this season to quiet the PAC 10 folks down.
#2 Ohio State (a barely top 25 team is still a top 25 team)
#3 Cal (sorry you get jumped but OSU dominated and you guys had a bye, doesnt really matter at this point anyways lots and lots of football still to come)
#4 USF
#5 BC
That may have been LSU's toughest test, but that doesnt mean they can coast. Auburn = Michigan...both teams have two dissapointing losses and are out of the championship picture, but you definately DO NOT want your team to have to play them. All the talent is still there that had them ranked so high. Further, if FL can somehow win the SEC east we will get another shot at LSU, if I was from Death Valley I would NOT want that to happen...
Oklahoma's quality is a lot more indicative by today's win than by last week's loss. Texas came out fired up, but Sam Bradford looked as poised as a seasoned vet, so OU gets the nod to move back into the top 5 after a lot of teams dropped.
South Florida still hasn't impressed me as much as some other people. Its big win over WVU was mediocre at best for me. There were still 4 turnovers and a lot of missed plays. Its best game of the year was against an Auburn team that went on to lose its next game to Mississippi St. And then tonight South Florida struggled against Florida Atlantic. So, I've still got them around No. 9, not because they are the No. 9 team, but because no one has proved itself to be better than they are.
As far as Hawaii goes, they will never...EVER...sniff my top 10. I've got them at 18, once again just because there are no teams that have proved themselves better.
Well guys thanks for the comments. As for BC, they will lose to Florida State, which will then have an outside shot at the BCS championship should they win out. They still have to beat Florida, and Boston College, but if they do that they could jump very high in the rankings. USC loss in the middle of the season hurts them more than FSU's early one.
Hawaii and USF are undefeated and both will probably remain undefeated. Think Boise State from last year. Neither will get the championship game if they are undefeated, but Oklahoma and USC ruined any hopes with a loss. Ohio State will cruise through Michigan and Wisconsin who lost to Illinois.
TSI, LSU is good, but I would love an SEC Big 10 rematch, which I think would have the same results.
Jap, yeah and USC is the same team that lost to a horrible Stanford team. Michigan lost to an Appalachian State team, and Oklahoma lost to Colorado. SO what, Hawaii won, those other guys lost.
Ed, we agree on that. If Hawaii keeps on winning, they have a shot at the top 5.
Ohio State beat a MARGINAL top 25 team in Purdue. Cal beat a SOLID top 10 team in Oregon a couple of weeks ago ON THE ROAD. Cal has two other top 10 teams to play in USC and Arizona State (they will be in the Top 10 by the time they play Cal). It's not Cal's fault they had a bye this week. Much needed bye, by the way.
It would be an utter crime if Cal ran the table and Ohio State jumped past them in the final BCS regular season poll. I halfway expect it.
No USF and no Hawaii. I wouldnt jump OSU over Cal until they lose to USC. I dont have a problem with putting OSU at 3 or 4 whatever and I dont even mind that some are picking them to lose this season but what I dont understand is why you would pick Wisconsin or Michigan to beat them. Isnt anyone paying attention? Illinois is the next best team in the Big-10 this year hands down. With that said I would trade USF or Hawaii for Mizzou based off of them being Illinois only loss and that total domination of Nebraska on Saturday.
I don't know but seems to me after all the brouhaha about SC and OU and LSU, and now the first two have lost, I have to put LSU first until someone takes it away. Cal has to get some serious consideration somewhere here. This is why they play the games. If you beat number one you should be moving way up. Much better team than I thought.
Ok I respect your opinion on things just disagree somewhat. First off I can't see punishing Cal for having a bye week. that's the schedule it's made up in advance not there fault USC decided to stink befor they played them. So with that said this is my top 5
1) LSU
2) Cal
3) OSU
4) S.Fla.
5) OKU
If you get the time checkout my blog on USC
Gambit, there is nothing wrong with your top 5, but I have only unbeatens in mine. I will check out your blog later on tomorrow. As for my top 5, I am basing it on a few games in, so for all of those who keep saying Cal should be higher, they are going to drop out of the top 5 anyway when they lost to USC. Worst thing that could happen to Cal was seeing USC lose to Stanford.
Bluegrass, nice to see you too, and I am also sad at KY losing.
9 sec teams play teams in Div -2 and 11 sec teams play teams ranked in the bottom 110-120 and 7 more play teams ranked 95-109.sec better have best non-conf record with those games
Hawaii is not a top ten team let alone a top 5 team. Quit buying into the Colt Brennan hype. Its like playin QB at Florida for Steve Spurrier. Anyone can put up numbers, but as you see are nothing more than college qbs. Brennan may end up in the NFL someday, but lets be real. He plays in a June Jones run-n-shoot system, AND they play next to nobody.
I have to agree with meader. Hawaii isn't a top ten team. Infact, if you look at their schedule they play no ranked teams. Of the teams on their schedule Boise State was ranked in the preseason and that was it. Sure if BSU continues to win they might be able to crack the top 25 again.
Boston College is so over rated... they are looking as a good team right now, maybe a top 15 but not a top 5, you'll find out whenever they have to play VT, Clemson & Maryland towards the end of the season... well actually i dont believe any ACC team this season should be inside of the top 15!
ok first of Jon 464 there is no way that cal will make it to 11-0. I think they will lose at least one game. They could lose to a ok oregon state or a good arizona state team. And i would bet my whole life that they will lose to usc by more then twenty points. Jon u got to be from cal cause u think way to much of them.
Socialsportsfan um just so u no six of the nine BCS chapionship games of been played by a one lose team so ya usc and oklahoma still have a great chance to go the the national championship. I dont think any team will make it threw the season undefeated. Usc or oklahoma will be in the national championship because they both lost early in the season so they have time to gain ranks unlike some one who loses late in the season. i could even see LSU losing late and not even going. I think it will be oklahoma and Usc in the national championship.

whooo hoooo vindication! hey where are all those OVERATED florida gator fans at? g8trgirl where you at? acesoverkings ? where you at? g8ter dad? where your punk#%$ at? dont worry tho , you guys lost two last year and still got in the bcs game buck up you little gator fans the bcs stillhas your back. yeah maybe the next telvised game you have maybe the nextwork will get emmit smith to come on and comment for you guys , to say how good you are and what a POWERHOUSE the gators are blah blah blah oh yeah if you read this where your Punk %$# at? get on here and run your mouth fat boy!
Wow, Hawaii huh? I have actually stayed up to watch a coup[le of their games. Hell, my best friend lives there, so courtesy of said friend I can even rock a UH tee-shirt here and there. However, I wouldn't put them in the top five. USF either. Depends on how you want to rank teams, by their current poll positions or by how they are playing, OR by a combo of both measures.
If you roll with the combo method, then I think it's 1)LSU 2)Cal 3)OSU 4)BC 5)USF. The poll qoutient requires a higher ranking for undefeated team, so BC and USF get in the top five. I think Oregon, Oklahoma, Illinois, Mizzou, and S. Carolina are all capable of beating either USF and BC. This whole Florida State thing, while interesting, is not gonna happen. Way too many tough games to play. They could get in with the ACC champ birth, but they won't sniff the title game.
Based upon the performances so far, I think either a LSU v. Cal or LSU v. OSU game is what we will get. LSU may still have to play the Gators again in "neutral" Atlanta, so anything is possible. The Gators had that game won and #### it away. Trust me, the last thing LSU wants is to go in to the title game a heavy favorite, with the media proclaiming them champions before the game is even played. Bad news......
Norcal, if Florida State runs the table, do you not think they will have earned the BCS berth over USC and others? If, a big if, they beat Va Tech, Boston College, Florida, and Miami, I say they deserve it. Xavier Lee is a huge addition for them. They haven't had quality QB play since Charlie Ward left.
1. LSU
2. California
3. Ohio State
4. Missouri
5. Boston College
At this point in the season, if you've played somebody (sorry Hawaii) and your still undefeated, you should be ranked in the top 10 (look for Kansas to have a dream season)
The past two weeks have been extremely crazy in college football. As an Oklahoma Sooner fan, with all the upsets this past weekend Oklahoma has put themselves back in the national championship picture. We still need a little help. I don't think BC, SF or even OSU will go undefeated. Many OU fans wanted Florida to beat LSU, but that would have left then #9Florida ahead of OU in the polls. Now, all of us OU fans must pull and hope Florida meets and beat The Hated One LES MILES'S LSU Tigers. He is the only coach to beat Bob Stoops twice in his career@OSU(Oklahoma State U). This is what makes college football fun. Cal will lose to USC, BC will lose to Florida State, Usc will lose to Oregon, OSU will lose to Michigan, LSU to Florida, S.Florida to someone. National Championship Game Oklahoma VS. LSU/S. Florida. GO SOONERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
uhhh did you forget BC, ####. they are stomping teams out in the ACC, and would man handle every team on this list except LSU.... BC/LSU in the championship GO EAGLES
I don't care if they beat Florida. Auburn & LSU have already done that. The only feather in their cap will be winning big games on the road, arguably up to 5 of them because there are no patsies on their road schedule.
The point is that you're predicting it, which is ludicrous.
I'll set the over/under on losses for their final 7 at 2. I'll take the over. They'll lose to BC, get beaten 7-3 by VT and get clocked for Florida, who is no Alabama.
Norcal, I don't have them in here or even in my top 5, I am just saying if a one loss team has a shot it will be FSU. I dont' see Cal winning out. Oklahoma might, but they are in a weak conference. IF FSU wins out, they deserve it.
Of course USC can win out too, but I doubt it. Ohio State should win out and then its over, its OSU vs LSU>
