HGH: It's Legal On The Internet
Sep 08, 2007 | 7:30AM | report this

Way back when everyone was clamoring for Bonds' head, I told you he would never go to jail nor would he be prosecuted for steroids.  I've written numerous posts about HGH and its legitimate use under a physician's care.  Well now we have Rick Ankiel saying he never took anything without a doctor's prescription.  The truth is that he did have a doctor's prescription.  Just like Wade Wilson and a host of others.

It doesn't matter if HGH is really a legitimate cure or treatment for what was ailing Ankiel.  All that matters is that he had a legal prescription.  If so, he was following the law and he will not get into any trouble with the feds or local authorities.  The federal authorities want to shut down internet sites where certain medications are sold and they should try to find these doctors who prescribe these substances and take away their licenses.  But until they do, anyone who purchases drugs online is doing nothing illegal.

People who use medical marijuana are not breaking the law and similarly people who order HGH online with a valid prescription are just using a loophole in the system to take the drugs they want.  In San Diego, you can qualify for medical marijuana for headaches and obtain a prescription for poor eyesight.  Students at Grossmont High School actually carry medical marijuana cards to school and then arrive high for classes.   Does anyone believe that smoking a joint is a valid medication for the littany of ailments you can find at online sites that qualifies it for a prescription?  Not me, but it is legal.  HGH may not be a valid cure for anti-aging, but as long as it is advertised as such, prescribed, and sold online legally, Ankiel and others will not be prosecuted.  As long as they took it before 2005 they won't suffer from MLB either or they will hear from the players' union.  It is a sticky situation MLB is in, but one of their own making.  Before it's all over we may find Bud Selig is taking HGH to grow balls to handle this situation.

So do you agree Wade Wilson is getting a bum rap too Brady? If it's okay for Ankiel, then it has to be okay for Wade, who isn't even playing in a game.

Thats the good old U.S.A. and I love it. If you have a better way of running this country and governing it then you ought to run for president, you have that right. Hindsight is always 20/20. They have broken no laws or rules so why do you convict them? IT'S A GAME. You remember what you have said when an officer pulls you over for doing 60 mph in a 55.

tiger, A-Rod will have steroids allegations before it is all over. When the list from Radmonski comes out, no one is safe. From Clemens to Pujols, there is going to be big trouble.

Jose Canseco has already said he has "stuff" on A-Rod that will be in his next book, but he won't go into details. Looks like we may hear steroid talk regarding him sooner rather than later.

Well, I have to agree about Ankiel. He had legal perscriptions and wasn't breaking the rules of baseball. Although he may have acted immorally (and that's not for any of us to decide), he didn't break any rule or law and thus should not be punished for his actions.

Socal, just to clarify, to legally use HGH, your "situation" has to be approved by Health and Human Services (HHS), which is a branch of the U.S. government.

I have an article up on Ankiel now if you're interested.

Ultra, I am not sure of your claim about the HHS, to my knowledge physicians have been using HGH for treatments for years. SO as long as your doctor prescribes it, it is legal.

ManRub, canseco knows a lot, but hard to believe everything because he is always hawking his books.

It's in the New York Daily News article:

Unlike most drugs, federal law bans the use of HGH for off-label purposes: Physicians can distribute growth hormone only in connection with either treatment of a disease or another medical condition authorized by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. "You need a bona fide doctor-patient relationship and a bona fide disease to distribute growth hormone," Wadler said.

I think he's in a legal position. His Doctor prescribed him this stuff, just like so many people who've had orthopedic surgery. Aren't you getting sick of all this steriod #### I know I am.
Great post.

What do you think of the demise of the Big Ten. It's my new blog.

I don't believe Ankiel had any condition that allows HGH to be prescribed to him. Anti-Aging isn't approved for a 20 something year old dude.

Spin time.
Wade Wilson has said his use of HGH was related to impotence, a side effect of diabetes.

That's the point Ultra, a physician can distribute it in connection with a treatment for a disease. Disease or medical condition is very nebulus and up to these online physicians.

SLS, you don't have to believe it, Ankiel just needs a doctor to prescribe it. It can be used to recover from surgery, injury, or anything else on a list of ailments. Some docs still prescribe leeches.

Swack, of course if printed its true. LOL

Just because a doctor prescribed it does not mean it was prescribed legally.

Just because a doctor prescribed it does not mean it was prescribed legally.

And in this country, one is innocent until proven guilty. It's up to the law enforcers to prove that the prescription is not legal.

Nemini, if a doctor prescribes it, but you don't know if it is legal, whose fault is it? The whole reason why Ankiel is not in trouble is because if a doctor prescribes it, its legal for you. It is not the patient's responsibility to make sure prescriptions are legal, it is the doctor and pharmacy which fills it. A patient has no way of knowing if a scrip is valid or not.

Thanks Ultra.

Will HGH help me regrow my hair? Or will it just put more hair on my back? lol! Seriously, there will always be substances out there that help players and people in general get an "edge" over their competition. Hell I'm a general sales manager at a car dealership and I wouldn't mind trying some HGH to give me that "boost" in mind and body.

Good post socal!
