TitleTown? What burgh owns that moniker? Who do you hate!
Jul 05, 2008 | 9:43AM | report this

As we type, another network is pushing a segment on Title Town.  Ok, them is fighting words, Vern.   This is as stupid as claiming which NCAA football conference is the best.  Several conferences need to travel TO bowl games instead of playing at home stadiums before the masses will offer total respect.  Remember the four-letter network's terrible "Who's Now" segment last year?  I'm still hosing down the living room to remove the stench.  This is more of the same refuse.

No city owns the Title Town moniker and plenty of fine citizens will offer to fight over the name.

Green Bay was ONCE known by that name; it's lame to make a claim to a name that has applied only ONCE since the late 1960's.  Let it go, Green Bay.  Be happy you still have an NFL franchise.  Los Angeles will be sniffing for an NFL team in a few years.

Please feel free to toss replies with team/franchise nicknames that really piziss you off.  Yes, I live in DFW; I grew up despising the Cowboys, since Pearson pushed off on the Hail Mary pass against my beloved Vikes!

What franchise do you hate and why?  Here are the leading contenders.

NFL-

America's Team!  That was a name created for a NFL FILMS video.  Tex Schramm and his Cowboys cronies jumped on it and the flea bag media and fans kept it going.  Hey!  Every sport needs a Dr. Evil franchise for everyone else to hate.  Philly fans should be happy it's not them the rest of the leagues hates and is jealous of, too.

In the 80's the SuperStation, TBS, a Turner commodity, attempted to bogart the name, America's Team, for the Braves.  Didn't work, did it.  How can a team from a city that can't build a freeway to loop the city be hated?  Well, unless Ray Lewis has a weapon, I'm not worried!

The New England Pats are rising on the hate charts, courtesy of the video camera and three, lame three point SuperBowl wins(?).

MLB-

The prissy Yankees and their astronomical payroll win in an uncontested match.  How can we not hate the Yankees!  It's as easy as ' A squared + B squared = C squared.'  The highest payroll in the western hemisphere can't buy titles any more.  I love it.  Red Sox fans, quit your crying.  You're the second most hated franchise in  MLB, since your 'Johnny come lately' fans have a huge sense of entitlement.  Go back to worshipping Dennis Leary, please.  Anyone know who's the daddy of A-Rod's kids?

NHL-

Let's face it, Detroit is the bomb.  This is the Title Town of the NHL.   I respect the pizza franchise dictator's running of the Red Wings.   This only leaves teams with dirty players and that leaves Sean Avery, dirtbag-turd.  The NHL created a rule, during the playoffs because of this swine.   Wait, he just signed with the Stars.  Whoops!  I'm not impartial any more.  Fans are more jealous of the Red Wings than anything else.

NBA-

That's  beyond easy, since Kindergarten kids hate the Lakers.  There's nothing more to say.  At least the Police Blotter has not included Lakers lately.

MLS-

Psych.  The masses aren't watching.

Gentlemen, start your fisticuffs.

Please, with two championship teams out of the four major sports this past season and a 3rd team that just missed a championship win, you have NO choice but to call Boston the new TitleTown.

I think you covered this pretty well, by each sport. Boston is trying to lay claim to the title of Title Town by virtue of winning recent championships in all 3 of the major sports leagues. Hate to admit it, but they do have an argument.

What's wrong with having 2 or 3 freeways that just go around a city in an endless loop? It's great practice for NASCAR.

The answer is simple. Camden N.J. is title town. More murders per capita than any other burgh 10 years and counting. Detroits got no game anymore, why do they even try?

NFL- Cowgirls- For the very reasons you stated.

MLB- Boston- just because of their fans sudden arrogance these past few years.

NBA-Celtics- I'm a Laker fan so that should be explanation enough.

NHL- Did you hear about the Cajun Hockey team? Yeah well they all drowned during spring practice.

MLS- Are you kidding me do people in America really watch this?

Good stuff husker.

Isn't it interesting that the teams that draw the hate are either current winners or have been winners in the past?

The most hated title? Simple. Whoever has beaten the other fans teams within the current fan bases' lifetime.

For example, no one hated the Spurs until they began to win. They were everyone's loveable losers. The "nice guys" of the NBA. But once they began to win, they suddenly became the "men in black," the bad guys, the evil empire. Why is it so hard for some people to figure out?

The old saying that everyone loves a winner, is only true if that winner is your team. Everyone else hates them.

Title town? That changes with the times. And it is largely a mythical title that exists only in the mind of the fans of the towns that claim the title.

And as far as the "America's Team," tag, of couse the front office people of the time loved it, but Tom Landry and the players of the time hated it because they felt it painted a bull's eye on their back.

FenwayCrazy, you're a homer. That's understandable. I say the title is so self-important that no city deserves it. Besides the fall comes far too quickly after recent success.
Get a NHL franchise, then start crowing.

Spurcse get bonus credit for understanding my point!

Hanny, my Hot-lanta co-workers note how DFW and Houston have multiple outer loops and their community can't get it done. Hire Larry the Cable Guy.

Gambitt, do math in your head. It helps, like every time you fill the tank and comput mpg.

Ouch Husker. That NHL comment was uncalled for. Why you gotta be like that?

I fully understand that I would'nt hate the friggin Yank's so much if they lost to us all the time. I'm actually starting to hate them less and less LOL.

I also happen to be a Cincinnati fan. No reason to cheer there. But I have some great memories of watchin the Big Red Machine roll on in the 70's in Riverfront Stadium and the '90 sweep of the A's. The Bengals, tragic as they are most of the time had some great attempts at breaking loose also. Few and far between but..Still, I love em !

Fenway, I don't hate Boston. I follow the Sawks because they ain't the Yanks. They're in my favorite teams list, with the Celts. The Bruins comment is canned an meant to take die hard Boston fans down to earth.

NFL - Dallas, cemented.
MLB - Moneyball.
NBA - not with a fervor, but yeah.

NHL - WHAT?!!! Hockeytown Rules! My lady fisticuffs are revved.

MLS - Don't look know, but Houston is building a dynasty. What's that? Oh yeah... you already said you weren't looking. OK, soccer is pretty congenial here in the States. I love the Dynamo & Brian Ching...

(Tempted to post some dude pics just to show you how much I love Brian Ching!)

Hate Dallas. America's team? Their RB didn't pay his taxes and one of their best players had drug issues (back in the days when that was a novel thing). Plus I'm a Redskins lover.

Yankees? Hate 'em. For no other reason than they laugh at the luxury tax while teams like the Athletics are more profitable with a tenth of their salary payroll...or at least it seems like a tenth. Billy ball!

NBA? Lakers. Of course, followed closely by the Pistons. Being a Celtics fan should explain my reasons for hate.

NFL - The Raiders and their stinking Nation! "Just win Baby" hasn't been working out so well for them. Maybe they should try, "Stay classy Oakland". Then again, that hasn't worked so well for San Diego. Anyway, just the attitude of win at all cost is enough to hate a team. Especially if they lose at all cost. It's time for Fonzy to give up the helm.

MLB - The Padres. That's right, the Padres! My favorite team is also my most hated team. They play stupid, rookie-like baseball. You would think that someone would be able to recognize the flaws and get something done.

NBA - I was going to say the Clippers because of their ownership and their move from San Diego. Then I realized that the Clippers can't raise enough emotion within me to hate them. I guess I don't hate any NBA team.

NHL - Don't care enough about to hate anyone.

MLS - I can only name about three teams. No passion there either.

NFL - Check
MLB - Check
NBA - Any and all
NHL - ???
mls - Who Cares?

Titletown? Isn't that down at some Texas High School where Mack Brown and Bob Stoops hangs out most of the off-season???

MLB - I never thought I could hate a team more than I once hated the Yankees, but the Red Sox proved me wrong. I'm too big a baseball fan not to watch the Playoffs, but I wanted to hurl with all the attention given to the enthusiastic Fenway fans, the #### that goes on in the Red Sox' bullpen and Papelbon's inbred-looking "death stare".

NFL - The Cowboys are pretty bad, but I hate the Packers even more. It seems like they spend more time worshiping Brett Favre and hating the Bears than they do actually enjoying their team. I also hated the Patriots before everyone else did.

I agree with you on the NHL and NBA, but I hate the Celtics just as much as the Lakers due to the city they come from and all the banners they have.

These are all team games. Who hates Roger Federer and Tiger Woods? Both winners both not hated.

The Celtics have not been winners long enough to be hated, they just became relevant a year ago not long enough to be hated when you were non existant on the face of the NBA over 20 years.
Lakers, Spurs, and Pistons prob the 3 most hated teams. Do people hate the Mavs? They 'hate on' those chokers, I know that.

WrZlt- I think all the other golfers planned to kill Tiger Woods. But then he said Fershizzle. I think all the other tennis players wanted to kill Federer. But they were to busy attending a #### pride rally. While smoking pot in Europe. Sorry for the sterotypes. I needed to throw that in.

But here is a question. I think if the Yankees don't make a comeback next year, as well as the Mets, New York could serioulsly be in danger of becoming one of the worst sports cities that have all 4 major sports. The Knicks, well you know about the Knicks, the Jets, well you know about the Jets, and the Yankees and Mets could be in the cellar. Now I know the Giants just pulled off a miracle, but 10-6? Come on. The Rangers could be getting a lot worse if Jagir leaves. We could be in some serious piles of dog excrement if we don't do something fast.

I would probably hate the Cowboys more if any, if my Lions werent such a joke.

I wrote one time late last year ( to lazy to look it up on google) titled "Americas teams like it or not!"

I think that most people just hate the teams that have the most road fans. Home team crowds don't take kindly to their kind round here ..........or wherever!

It is americas god given right to hate the 'boys. The Yankee's thrive on hate, so it is easy to hate them also. Honarary mention goes to what ever team is playing in Oakland at the time. To hate any NHL team is a waste of time. Soccer suks. That leaves TITLE TOWN. Ptiisburgh took it away from the Pack, San fran took it away from them. So now its Bastan. Let
em have it, means nuthin, and keeps the cheatin whiners happy!

thnx sishusker....BTW nice post.

Agreed with all your mentions.

Green Bay should not be living on a past moniker. But there also is no way that franchise is ever moving - especially to LA. The entire state of Wisconsin, Northern Michigan and Eastern Minnesota have more NFL football fans than the enitre states of California, Nevada and Oregon combined. Just my two cents, Husk.
