Rich Rodriguez: Michigan, you got hosed by a punk coach
Jan 29, 2008 | 4:49PM | report this

Way to go Michigan, you certainly hired away a winner.

Rodriguez is now using the media to avoid his $4 million dollar buyout clause.   Coach R has offered up a $1.5 million Letter of Credit in place of his $4 million obligation.  Ok, the courts will rule it's not enough.

The reality is coach R and his attorneys asked for a big contract from WVU and WVU asked for a buyout clause.  Rodriguez wants out and is using the media as his mouthpiece.  You're pathetic, Rich.  Michigan and the rabid fans of college football deserve better.

Wouldn't it be great to offer your creditors 38 cents on the dollar for your debts?  All you have to do is have your lawyer call the media and badmouth your creditor...like Rodriguez.

Pay up Rich.  Judge and jury are the last thing you need.  You've already claimed the WVU president verbally rescinded your buyout clause in a private discussion.  Yeah, right!   Here's the reality of your situation: You've dumped your wife for the prettier, younger girl, and unfortunately for you, your wife has an attorney.  You owe WVU some alimony, punk.

Rich, you're clearly not good enough for Michigan or any other reputable program.  You've shown your true colors.  Michigan, is there a way for you to cancel your contract?  Rodriguez has shown precedent.  Contracts don't matter.

How can I pay my creditors .38 on the $?? If it works I want to know. This whole thing with RR is a shame. We are trusting our kids to these people. WTF?

Hey husker!

I've wondered about this whole deal since it came down. I guess the venue for a trial if it goes that far is going to be in Michigan since RR moved before the suit was brought? Am I right on this?

I've gotta believe there are some very happy attorneys in Mountie country!

Ah yes... The American way.

Well done.
Coach R wants a reduction based on a conversation he may or may not had with the administration (verbal contracts are not worth the paper they are written on).
It is #### because ultimately the MICH boosters will bail him out (if he wins). It will not be his money.

Dwindy, this smelled bad when Michigan hired the guy. Suddenly files were missing at WVU. Flush now, Michigan.

Degraff, doesn't matter, the check will clear.

coloBoy, isn' it nice to see hijinks in another conference. Hey Michigan, I hope you have a lawer on retainer. Rodriguez will hose you over. Amazing that a coach under contract, with an out clause, doesn't think it applies to him. Get a rope. Michigan, you knew about the out clause, so hit up your boosters and help pay WVU. The longer this goes, the stinkier Michigan will be.

Husker, not for this blog but how could Dollar Bill recruit such talent and have such a no show in so many games? Before he left you were suppose to have 5 to 7 of the top OL coming, how many are still coming since he left? Originally you were suppose to have our stud OT (fourth best in the state accroding to scout) from Ponderosa, is he still going to Neb? How has your new coach done on the D side gaining new recruits?

The more that comes to light about the RR-UM-WVU situation the more I wanna lose my lunch. If this was a Grisham novel or some other fiction it would be fine, maybe even a little entertaining - but if this turns out to be the reality of the scene, then Coach Rich Rod is more a villain for UM football than a hero.

Time will tell.

The Alumni will forgive almost anything as long as he beats OSU and plays consistantly in the Rose Bowl.

Colorado, Coach C was a terrible, big game play caller. 2nd and one, throw deep twice! He wanted a senior transfer QB to start? Get real.

bc, it's going to be hot before this mess is cleaned up. Win the big game and you keep your job. Wait, he has a multi-million dollar contract. Winning doesn't matter.

BC did not leave the stable as MT as Barnett did. (I blame the admin for not renewing the 5 year rolling contract & he lost recruits while collecting three years in salary). So it was him and not the talent. I was at the game last year and for the life of me cannot imagine why you throw so deep with a running game (away from Dizon)working so well and a 14 point lead. Pop an interception and than another.
Your last years recruits seemed pretty big right up the middle and this year Neb had a killer OL. Bo will give you an awesome D and he has the ring to show new recruits.

Michigan can have him, the whole package...Ain't know one better then Michigan that deserves someone like him. Take him and Enjoy him and see you next year at the OSU Game...That is if Michigan doesn't cancel their contract with you like you did at WVU. Always remember what goes around comes around.

husker - what a surprise that a big buck, big name coach/athlete/celebrity(?) would use the media as their negotiating spokesvehicle (new word, I kind of like it) instead of dealing directly with the other party. Sounds like the reincarnation of Duante Culpritpepper and the "I'm the most important person in the world" mentality. Oh, wait a minute. To be reincarnated means something had to have died. Could be right, I guess. We mourn integrity.

Bucks/Gcoach...Michigan faithful are second to none in loving their team(like OU and NU) yet Rodriguez has started off with such a negative base that I'd cut off his head now!

The soap opera with Rich Rod is downright funny after all the talk from UMich about "Michigan values" and whispers of how some candidates weren't "aboveboard" enough to suit them. Les Miles is looking really good about now...

What would make this story even better would be for West Virginia to leave the Big East and join the Big Ten

Huskers....LOL! Funny stuff. Do you think Charlie Weis is taking notes on this? His buyout is what, 25 mil? Of course, I don't think anyone has good cause to take on that hefty contract, but still, looks like ND is stuck with Weis, especially after what happened to Rich Rod....38 cents on the dollar is just too much risk. Great scribble.
