16-0 Isn't Good Enough - We Don't Know The Whole Story
Dec 30, 2007 | 2:30PM | report this

The Patriots amazing and record tying regular season is finally complete.  Congratulations to the Patriots fans who saw the record run.

Still, it's not good enough.  The Patriots MUST run the table or be labeled the biggest bust in NFL history.  The pressure is on as the Patriots begin the post-season.  Losing is inconceivable, yet for the rest of us, a desired event.

This just in...the Patriots are possibly the biggest cheaters in the history of the league.

The record team/coach fine of $750,000.00 is incomprehensible.

Has any modern team lost their first round draft pick as a penalty for cheating and paid a huge fine?  Team owner Kraft didn't go the public route and dispute the NFL cheating charges.

The Patriots aren't tarnished, they're rusty.  Time won't be kind as fans of 31 teams will always bring up the Pats Video-Gate episode.

Many of us are still waiting to hear ALL the facts about the cheating.   We probably won't hear much due to the NFL's desire to protect itself.  The 32 owners will circle the wagons, play mum and hope we all forget Video-Gate.

The ratings from Saturday night's Patriots at Giants game had to be record breaking as it was shown on three networks.  That was a subject of the guys at Sunday breakfast.  Viewers watched hoping the G-men would upset the Patriots; yet it didn't happen.  This game was without bad officiating and replay, like the Patriots/Ravens game.

I love the Holy Grail records.  We need something to strive for that can't be reached because it's too inconceivable.

Bob Beamon's record long jump of 29' 2.5" could never be broken, could it?  Mike Powell beat the record and fans were in shock.  Beamon hasn't lost his lustre in the eyes of fans and neither will the 72 Dolphins.

As the NFL post-season begins, fans of 31 teams will cheer against the Pats, whose fans won't understand.  Baseball fans were blind to steroids and HGH for far too long; we're sick of cheating, especially institutional cheating.

Sit back and enjoy the playoffs.  Better yet, you better take one of these pills to help you understand the ends justify the means.

Cheaters Prosper.

You must be a Dallas Fan - because the Patriots did not Cheat these past 16 games. You just need to make yourself feel better by name calling. We understand. They just took Romo out of the game. We feel your PAIN. GO PATS!!! And by the way - you'll see us in the SUPERBOWL!!!

Maestro...wrong.
I'm discussing 16-0 only.

As for Dallas, they have home field advantage, so the Skins pretty well have a cake walk in the game.
This happens each year in the 16th game.
Note, the NFC East has both Wild Cards. I'll see YOU in the SuperBowl? What position do you play.

As for name calling, you're in denial. The Pats cheated and were busted.(see the fine and loss of draft pick) That's part of the 2007 legacy. Deal with it now and the pain will be less later.

I'd hate to be any team facing NE the rest of the season. They've built a dynasty with players wanting to play there, without the usual Police Blotter activity. That's rare.

I didn't have a problem with the 72 Dolphins getting surpassed, but I do if it's a huge stinking, catcrap of a lie like the 15-1 except we cheated and got caught Patriots. We need to call up Selig and borrow an asterisk.

Patriots were fined etc for taping during 1st game of this season - taping was interrupted during the game - we were fined period. We never used that tape or any other during the 16-0 season period. All sixteen games were won fair and square whether you want to admit it to yourself or not. Get over it. I'm sure all 31 other teams are. Maybe you're a Jet fan. You'll be getting a new coach soon.............. by the way the position I play is : screaming supportive fan that gets to touch the silver football after they bring it back to Foxboro MA. GO PATS!!!!

Chris, your argument is incomplete. Why the $750,000 fine and loss of the first round draft pick? That ever happen before? This will be a hot topic for a long time. It's easy to figure out who the Boston die hards are.

Has anyone else noticed that no one in football "who counts" is actually talking about the Patriot's video episode during game one of this season? The only people still complaining are the unruly fans of losing teams. So much for sore losers! It is so much easier to believe that one's team lost to the Patriots because they were cheated against than it is to admit one's team is no good, especially when you have nothing else going for yourself.

How are the Patriots cheaters when the coach was caught? The coach made a mistake because he thought the rule would allow the camera if it wasnt used for the game at hand. Its not like the camera was hidden but it was out in the open for every1 to see. The coach made a mistake and that to bad and he was dealt penalties. There wasnt a bug planted like Lombardi did at way back. When Bonds did steriods or George Brett used a pinetar bat did every1 say the all the Giants and all the Royals were cheaters? While Patriot fans use the word stupid for what BB did You use the word cheater. But why call all the Patriots stupid or cheaters? It was 1 person. Also name calling is easy by Patriot haters but the facts show the film accomplished nothing at all. So this is why this story was followed very carefully by the Pat fans and once we found out the facts and decided it was a stupid decision but harmless we let it go. It might be time for every1 else to let it go. There are alot worse things going on in this world that people should be concerned about.

Saturday night felt like I was watching Studio Wrestling. Before a national audience, a very well scripted game was played. The dominant underdog Giants looking like they had the "Champ" almost pinned when suddenly the "Champ" comes back with a little over 11 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Great for ratings!! Watch the tape, it was obvious! Madison pulls up lame covering Moss, the Safety playing cover two miraculously trips over his own two feet but Moss mistakenly drops the pass. So what happens on the next play? Moss does not even get coverage on a streak and Torbor is no where to be seen, leaving him wide open (no one within 15 yards) for the 65 yard TD pass. On the ensuing kickoff and next series Amani Toomer gets two penalties in less than one minute. Then to seal it Eli throws a pick in the next series. The Giants practiced such poor clock management in the final four plus minutes that an onsides kick was necessary. The only part of the script that did no go as planned was the onside kick. The Giants were to recover the kick and then drive to the thirty-five of New England then tragically miss a game tying 52 yard field goal as time ran out. Patriots then go 16-0 and the RATINGS are tremendous! Just a page out of Professional Wrestling's playbook. Nothing but bread and circuses for the masses.

Cheating can only be cheating if you get caught. If you don't get caught it is called gaining an edge on the competition.

Happens all the time in racing.

Like I said before: How many teams have bent the rules to become 16-0? We know of one. Other teams who have cheated have gotten as many as 15 wins or as little as 0 or 1 in the past. It's still one incredible accomplishment by the Patriots.

Cheaters,Smeathers! Some many fans and so few can appreciate witnessing HISTORY!! Just think what you will be able to tell your grandchildren!! I was truly concerned for the UNDEFEATED title for awhile in the third quarter, down 12pts!! Giants tasting blood and Brady being rushed? That was to close for comfort! As for that historic pass to Moss, as he tells it, the play was to go to Welker for the first down. Or so the defenders thought as they broke coverage of Randy, leaving him wide open. Thank God we have such an intelligent QB in Brady and being quick enough to pick it up. By the way, who are all these people and why are they saying all these bad things about Moss all these years? He seems to be a hella nice guy to me.
Giants, how to play like contenders. Good Luck in the playoffs.

Husker my friend.....I understand it's going to be a long year for all those other 31 teams. Seeing how the Patriots STOMPED on everyone.....I think more CAMERAS should be allowed on the sideline. ESPECIALLY at NEW YORK JETS GAMES....they are the ones who STARTED THIS WHOLE MESS by VIDEO TAPING the PATRIOTS in the END ZONES.
But the other 31 teams need something to hang their helmets on....SO go ahead call the Patriots CHEATS.....HISTORY will call them a DYNASTY and the GREATEST TEAM EVER ASSEMBLED!

Here's what you need to know about NE Pats: Wes Welker...has more catches that Moss 112 to 98; has 28% of passing yards; has 80% of Punt return yards; has 13% of Kickoff Return Yards. Brady goes to Welker before Moss; Welker will catch in the face of linebackers; weight less than 190 but tough as nails...unsung hero for N/E Pats

Way to much is being made of this "cheaters" stuff. Time to get over it, move on. They won 16 games in an era where most people thought it was unprecedented. Personally, I think the pressure is now off. Now that they are 16-0 they will focus on what they focus on from day 1. That's hoisting the Lombardi trophy. As a Packer fan, I hope they go 19-0, unless they play the Pack in the Super Bowl of course.

Caught cheating??? They filmed the Jets in game 1 of the season from unauthorized areas. A violation of the rules and were fined accordingly. End of story! The only people making an issue of this are the fans from the teams that the Patriots beat. Where are all the owners and coaches of the other NFL? Why did they not make a big stink of it? Not to be found anywhere because all the teams have done the same. Mangini opened a can of worms that I am sure every NFL coach and owner is not happy about. Does anyone really think that the Jets could really beat the Patriots 1 time if they played 4 games against each other this season? You do not have to like the Patriots or Coach B but you cannot take away what they have accomplished.

I went to last nights game and I must say 99% of the Giants fans were great to be around. A real class act among NFL fans. The few critics who said the Patriots were lucky to win, I ask you this: If the Giants came back to win as the Patriots did, what would have you said about your team? I can guarantee you would have said the Giants are super to come back and win within such a short time frame. Well that's what the Patriots are: a great team. Great teams win in many ways not just by dominating the whole game but also making plays when they need to.

Are the Patriots beatable? Sure they are. Every team has a chance to win even against the Patriots. Will it be easy, of course not. Hey I have been a season ticket holder for 16 years but I am no yahoo who thinks we are unbeatable! But I do know one thing it won't be easy.

Slshusker. No need to hate the pats. Come on now. For us Pats fans that went through WAY much worse up until the Brady era, this is great for us. Thanks for the national support. Appreciate it. Well Pats fans, having haters is a good thing. That means we are finally taken as a serious team, and getting recognition. Maybe the Pats really took it to one of their teams and some of you are bitter. I can understand that. I personally never carried my hatred over for THIS long. Get over it guys. After week 1, there is NO way they would do anything like that again. So going 16-0 proves they are legit. Week 1 was ridic. Come on, the Jets? Ratgini wanted to be a #### and he knows full well the rest of the league will always remember the whistle-blower. As other teams do shady things as well. Every one does something. I won't get into what other teams have done to violate the "rules". It would just fall on deaf ears. I know you would like to see other teams in the SB's, but let us have our day. Come on. It really is that much to ask apparently.

I am so tired of the "cheating" label...keep in mind:

It is NOT against the rules in the NFL to steal signals...
It is NOT against the rules in the NFL to steal signals using a camera...there are many cameras all over the stadiums pointing at everything going on...

The rule that was broken was WHERE the camera was placed....more dumb than cheating, don't you think?

All NFL teams steal signs...

Remember when Shula was caught using a camera from a hotel window to tape the other team's practice sessions???? Yet, he's looked at as a great coach, not a cheater.

Most teams have people positioned on the sidelines staring at the other team’s defensive signal callers so that they can steal the signs, which is why there are usually 2 or more people giving signals.

Cower, Shula, and Mariucci have also been fined draft choices in the past….

C'mon guys....get real. Is Belichick a bit arrogant? Sure, but can't you say the same thing about most of the great coaches? from Lombardi to Parcells...Bill is no more arrogant than any of the others...the media just hates him because he refuses to get caught up in their hype…he is all about coaching and winning-period.

Let's enjoy the game, the coaching, the execution, the drama....let go of the WHINING...you sound like a bunch of teenage girls.

I'm glad the Patriots have an undefeated season because I realize that if they lost a game or two then Belicrap would correct what they did wrong and change the game plan. I believe a team will figure them out in the playoffs and beat them and then Belicrap won't get another chance to redeem his team because they'll be going fishing. The key to beating the Pats is not committing turnovers, penalties and to have the ball during the final drive of the game. Also, the team who has the best running game will penetrate that aging defense. GO WHOEVER BEATS THE PATS!

If 1 person on your team in your words cheated how can You call the whole team cheaters(Patriots)? Many sports persons have cheated but the whole team or country is not called cheaters. At least if You haters are going to go on and on about this call just the coach a cheater and not the whole team. Otherwise we must go back through history and in the future and call every team cheaters if 1 person broke the rules. If 1 person in Your family is a drug addict is your whole family? You must get my point? Patriots haters need to get the wording right at least.

The "Cheater" schtick is getting old...some of you sound like 5th graders on the playground. More facts on New England for those with some intelligence: 2004--went 14-2; won the Super Bowl; 2005--went 10-6; beat in Divisional by Denver (13-3); 2006--went 12-4; beat in Conference champ by Indianapolis (12-4); 2007- went 16-0...since 2004 they have won 52 out of 64 season games (81% of their games). I am a Favre fan from CA, but I know good football when I see it. Brady will end up one of the all-time best QB's. When he retires, some of you will still sound like 5th graders.

Hey Patschamps2007,

If the NFL were ever to change the name of the trophy, it sure as hell won't have Belidick's name on it. It'll change to the first person ever to win four Super Bowls, Chuck Noll. Just remember, even if you guys do win the bowl this year, you'll still be one behind the Steelers, Cowboys and Niners. And, since you have the Steinbrenner of the NFL as your owner, you guys had better win. Otherwise, Belicheat might be coaching in Buffalo next year.

The Patriots played their last 4 games with a huge
target on them. They deserve recognition as the best that ever played the game. Due to the way they had to come back in alot of games and the 16 game schedule there can be no doubt involving their desire to win. I am not a New England fan and their defeat of the Panthers in the Super Bowl left me wanting to see other teams get to their level of play. That has not happened due to their
character and team approach throughout this team's
history.
