When they do it in New York, they do it big! Congratulations, METS! You've given sports fans the greatest collapse in MLB history, that cable TV knows of.
We sat in the front row and watched you p-iss away a seven game lead with 17 to go. Only the Red Sox could s-crew up a lead like that.
After the METS coughed up the first few games of the lead, how could we fans NOT cheer for the Phillies to catch up to you. Sure, you're both East coast teams and flyover country doesn't respect either of you; NYC is the city that snubs its nose at the rest of us and the Mets don't play in the NFL's NFC East. So, way to go Mets. You got what you wanted and are in the history books.! Hey! Glavine even hit a pitcher for the first time in his career. You can't make this stuff up. Good Times! This just in...The Mets have been eliminated from the 2008 MLB Playoffs.
Oh, to be a Mets fan today. I heard from a co-worker that Eckards, CVS Pharmacy, Target, Walmart and Tru-Value Hardware have taken all knives and razor blades off the shelves. OUCH! OUCH!
Maybe this is karma for the 1969 and 1986 Mets. Still, I'm tempted to buy a life insurance policy on a few of the Mets players. Someone may drop dead after catching a stray bullet in a drive-by. YaNeverKnow.
So, Mets fans, Fughedaboutit! Cheer on the N.L. teams in the series, or anyone, as long as it isn't the Yankees.
Don't forget to watch tomorrow's 1-game playoff in Denver. The Padres and Rockies are playing for the Wild Card Berth. Rocky Mountain Oysters anyone? I didn't think so. Yuck.
As a Cub fan I have to say that none of the remaining NL teams scare me as much as the Mets would've. These Playoffs are going to be great. Who predicted before the season began that the NL Playoffs would feature Chicago, Arizona, Philadelphia and either San Diego or Colorado?
My ideal World Series matchup would be Cubs-Indians. The Red Sox suffered for a long time, but the Indians currently have the AL's longest World Series Championship drought. If they face each other one of them has to end it.
Yes indeed the Mets put up the big choke. However, you gotta give the Phillies some credit. They won games while the Mets were slowly imploding. The Mets opened up the door, and the Phillies kicked it down.
The Phillies never gave it up. Not during a horrid April. Not while sustaining stints on the DL by the big guns in the line up. Not after watching their star free agent pitcher go out for the year. Never. They kept playing hard, and they put up 89 wins.
Quite simply, they believe.
Jimmy Rollins is the NL MVP. I don't care who the press votes for. In my sports history book, it will read that Jimmy Rollins is the MVP for 2007.
So please....don't root for my Phillies. Hope that they go down in the first round. Do not fear them. Count them right out, just like everyone counted the Cardinals out last year. The Phillies do not need your support. They won all year without it. They can win in the post-season without it as well.
The Rockies played well in Sept. So did the Phillies. They split a 4 game series right before the Phillies pulled that big sweep in New York.
Do you not see the delicious irony of the Phillies winning it all this year? They lost their 10,000th game this year. Would it not be some sort of poetic justice for the Phillies...the most futile team in professional sports...to wipe away the stain of 1964 and also win their second world championship in 125 years?
I too, will pull for the Rockies tomorrow. I don't know why. I hate Coors beer and thin air. The Denver Omlet gives me the squirts. And yet, I'd like to see them get in.
Way to much in common. 1st the Mets! yeah, how bout that "almost" no hitter game by Maine? Haven't seen one of those since 1962. The Huskers? Well, let's fire Callahan and get John L Smith in there, then I'll buy season tickets. And finally, Jim Beam! You bet! Know him so well, I just call him Jaaaaaames.
There are two sure ways to be remembered in sports. Win a championship or have a total melt-down choke that even the hind-lick maneuver cannot save. This latest #### by the Mets will make people forget the 68 Mets. It will make people compare them to Greg Norman at the 96 masters, Bogey, Bogey, Double Bogey, Bogey, Bogey...GOOD BYE GREEN JACKET. How about the 1978 Red Sox who you eluded to. 14 Game lead coming out of July!!! Let's just say the Mets have to work on that "gag reflex". I hear that Linda Lovelace still gives lessons.
huskers...hilarious....i wasn't sure if this was really true yesterday...i can't believe how they gave it away. They won a big game todays ago (didn't they? they had scored over 12 runs in the game...they won, didn't they?) ...i don't get it. funny stuff.

Owner Fred Wilpon and the rest of his family must be thinking that they ought to just to firebomb the whole of Shea Stadium and start anew anew after his team's incredible meltdown. That team has all the talent in the world but no leadership and that's what has led to their demise. It's as if no one was interested in playing hard and the merely thought that they coast their way through to winning the NL East. Their implosion was well deserved and one can be sure that there'll be some major upheaval in the team's roster. Randolph's position as coach may or may not be in jepoardy but in now way is he to blame for this. It's down to the players and no one else !

I've two new posts up under this guise.
Titled as follows What Happened In Little Rock Reverberrated Around The World ...Fifty Years On ! And the second piece is titled Paper Tigers, Champions Or Simply Not Just Good Enough ? Let me know what you think as to the merits of both pieces ? I'll look forward to reading your comments on both pieces in question.
Maybe the Mets should just sue the Phills for cheating like thier other NY conterparts. Seems like thats the new thing to do when u lose. Watch out Buffalo, your letter is coming !!!!!!!
GO PATRIOTS AND RED SOX !!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, to think the Brewers choke job (though the Cubs should've caught and passed them a few weeks sooner-at least I don't have to #### my pants) as classic, along with the 1969 Cubs, but the Mets demise was something I may never seen again in my lifetime.

Minor correction Rockies made playoff in 1995 as wild card and lost to Atlanta three games to one. Unless you were referring to Rocks never making World Series.
Also enjoyed Mets collapse. Fox boys were pulling for Mets this weekend - stupid NY media bias there are other teams in MLB besides NY teams.
Good blog and nice graphics. Go Indians and take out Yanks this year.

Dont know both WGN and TBS are turning on MLB fans.
Cubs fans lose out because WGN covers less and less games each year. As a Reds fan when we played Cubs that series was on WGN every year not now and as season wound down not a lot of Cubs game on WGN.
Were not Cubs in pennant chase. That had to upset diehard Cubbies. I fear WGN could follow suite and eventually drop coverage of Chicago area teams. Hope not because this is bad for MLB fans .
Major Networks like ratings as you pointed out and small market teams have hard time getting airtime on Networks. With TBS and WGN coverage as it used to be you could see all NL teams in action vs Cubs or Atlanta eventually that year not so on Networks.
But its all about money and not baseball fans.
This is how it works and cant go back in time to good old days of hotdogs and Sunday doubleheaders.
Enough said.

Considering that both WGN and the Cubs were indeed part of the same corporate parent ownership. It was only a matter of time before the bells started to toll on that score. Now with the Tribune Group having been sold they'll want to divest themselves of all vestiges of the Cubs once and for all.
I am proboblly one of the biggest mets fans you will ever see and holy cow the yankees just lost it in the 11th. juicy... anywho as i was saying i am the son of crazyman and have been part of . generations of mets fans. my room is blue and orange, i have spent every dime of my money on mets memerobilia and i love them to death. am i the only one thinkin 2008-09 World Series here. watch it everyone. willie is going to bring in some serious pitching and we will be back into october ball in no time. I still will never admit that this is the biggest meltdown in MLB History because the Yankees blew a 3-0 lead in the playoffs, and to Boston no less. John Maine is amazing and so is David Wright. Three cheers for Minaya for keeping some white guys instead oaf replacing them with dominicans. Yayy!!! The Amazins will bounce back. After all, they only blew a seven game lead in about 2 weeks. Go Mets. go home Yankees and Rockies-Boston WS. Bill Buckner

No matter which way you look at it they don't do anything by short order in NY.
And now with the Yankees down 0-2 having lost to the Tribe in the 11th inning. It'd seem that the sky is indeed falling and hell is beginning to freeze over.
Ramp - As of now, the Phillies, Cubs and Yankees look like they brought knives to gun fights. Down 2-0 isn't good.
The Rockies could close out at home.

I keep in faith in things like knowing I'm going to get laid at least four times a week if the girlfriend is in a good mood. But then again should I get even luckier I'll not complain. But as for the Yankees , Phillies , and Cubs I don't hold out much hope. It may well easier for Dubya to show some intelligence.

All this talk about firing Randolph makes no sense. He's not to blame for the team's malaise. They're a leaderless team in search of real leadership and there's no one to be that person. Now there's mention that Glavine won't be returning and has decided to opt out of his contract. And who can blame him ?
Ramp, last time I checked, Willie didn't lose on the base paths or give up homers.
The players choked. It's easiest to dump on Willie. Someone has to go, how about the over-rated GM? Glavine will declare for free agency. I'd like to see him go back to Atlanta for a year and retire a Brave.

Minaya may well be the one they all might be clamouring for to go. As he's the one who assembled the team. But what they actually need is someone along the lines of I-Rod. If you look at the Detroit Tigers. It's been Ivan Rodriguez who's provided the leadership on that team as well as when he was with the Marlins. And in both cases the teams in question won a World Series. He provided leadership and the team's were willing to follow as he led by example. That's what is missing from that Mets' team . An abundance of real team leadership .
