Boston Celtics: Rumors about Reggie Miller and the Ghost of Red
Aug 08, 2007 | 8:42PM | report this

The latest rumor has Reggie Miller coming out of retirement and signing with the Celtics.

This would be sweet for Celtics lovers and fodder for sports headlines.

With the signing of these three beauties, the only question would be...what number would Reggie wear.

Look for conspiracy theorists to blame leprechauns and the Boston parquet floor if Reggie signs.

Blogs will abound from prognosticators like Josh Q Public and Lisa4USC.

The possibility of a Big 4 in Boston, even if the 4th uses a walker will put smiles on fans of the East come playoff time.

Why not? I mean, what do they have to lose? They can pay him the league minimum. We no longer have to see his ugly grill on TNT. And he'll get them 15-18 minutes off the bench. If I were Ainge, I'd do it.

If he's that desperate why doesn't Ainge just suit up himself? That would save money since he is already on the C's payroll. Is Russell available? No offense to Reggie but this seems like a move of desperation not inspiration. Cheryl would be the better attraction if that is what we're trying to do here. Been a long time since the Celtics sold out a ballgame in Boston.

All seem to be in agreement.
We need to get Reggie off the network.

STOP THIEF!! I mean... if Ainge gets Miller for near the league minimum that surely would be a steal! So DIME and Ainge would have something in common. HAHA

For the record, I think Red is looking down and smiling at the job Ainge has done in the past few months.

Reggie could play 15-20 minutes a game, average double digits, and lead the league in 3 point percentage.

Imagine Reggie and Ray Allen on the perimeter as KG goes to work down low.

Opposing teams wouldn't be able to double team Garnett in the post.

I think it's a great idea.

I agree with those who can't stand Reggie as a commentator.

He's HORRIBLE.

Painful to watch.

It would be interesting to have him back in the game... though for the most part, comebacks never work out. Reggie... never understood it, with that awkward shooting and no spin on the ball, yet he just drained 3 after 3 after 3 after 3... and was fun to watch with his fire.

This REEKS of desperation. Ainge could lure Bird, McHale, and Parish out of retirement and the C's would be a #4 seed at best. I see them as a #5 seed next year in the East.

I've always loved Reggie, but he's not the answer to Boston's need to surround the New Big Three with good players. But I admit it: at least I'll actually watch the Celtics this year!

As for the Celtics I for one can see no reason why this trade won't make 'em a credible contender in the East. It'll be dependent whether or not they're willing to compete with the other major threats in the conference.

I don't really know how I feel about this. On the one hand, Reggie could be a great bench player and an awesome scoring threat when he's needy.

On the other hand he will be taking away a roster spot and taking playing time away from someone else.
