West Virginia and head coach John Beilein are falling apart at the worst time, and a big reason is he`s giving too many minutes & far too many long three point attempts to his son Patrick. I realize this is not an easy topic to tackle, but that`s why they pay me the big bucks. Patrick Beilein who is a decent contributor and shooter off the WVA bench was ice cold Saturday at home vs. top ranked UConn and cost them a chance at a huge win. Sure Patrick Beilein had a nice first half tonight against the Cuse with 15...all on 3 pointers of course.(That`s all WVA has) Don`t get me wrong I like WVA and root for them against anyone but the Cuse, but the point here is not going to the proven WVA playmakers Gansey(Who leads the Big East in shooting %) & Pittsnogel has cost WVA two huge Big East games and any chance at a conference title. John Beilein wanted everything on this homecoming back in Western NY, he had the better team & the ranked team vs. Jim Boeheim`s stumbling Orange. His son Patrick was the showcase shooter launching several three`s early and making five in that first half. Unfortunately with the game on the line he let that get the best of him and didn`t go to Gansey or Pittsnogle when they needed it most. With that win SU has a good chance of getting into the dance, while WVA will have to regroup to try for another miracle run like last year. I for one hope they can do it. It`s my opinion that John Beilein should have limited his son`s minutes and certainly shots, after all he is the sixth man on that squad. If he had they would have beaten UConn & possibly SU tonight.
First off I have to give credit to Villanova, who I figured would be mauled by the much bigger UConnvicts. Funny how teams that can shoot it from the field like Nova & West Virginia win. On to the most important post game break down, which I only happened to notice as my wife asked how many people get injured each year when they storm the floor after a big win? In the middle of all the chaos and celebration one camera man valiantly held his ground and delivered a Larry Ustacy moment. A very well endowed co-ed & Nova fan gets coach Wrights attention after the win and much to his delight offers a great view to celebrate the big win. Only problem for us chumps at home the little box in the lower right corner of my big screen with the score blocked out the twins dancin with a smilin Wright. You can call me crazy if you want or a disgruntled SU fan, but I know what I saw and so did Jay Wright. He hugged that chesty Nova fan and her friend just like another former NCAA coach at some party did. Well done Nova! I`d get that on a web site fast if I could find it. Can`t wait for the Big East Tourney.
