It`s a simple comparison, but the similarities are downright scary. Both played on AFC powers that were always contenders that fell short in the playoffs. The numbers as far as passing stats look alike. As Peyton hits 30 he has not been injured or missed any time as his teams starting QB. It wasn`t until Marino`s 11th season that he was limited to 5 games because of injury. Anyone wanna bet on Peyton`s streak after watching him try to avoid the pass rush since the SanDiego game? You simply can`t win by ignoring the running game. The selfish blame the rest of the team attitude that Marino made famous is developing at a record setting clip following the Colts loss to the Steelers-not Peyton Manning or his passing statistics loss though. Fact is Pittsburgh`s secondary isn`t that good, Polamolu is fantastic but not so much in coverage down the field---Where was the pattoned Peyton play fake? Who was that flustered Manning throwing the ball quickly to an outlet with his feet moving. No not Eli this time...it was Peyton. Sure he`s still one of the NFL`s greatest ever a regular season passing machine, but ask Marino if he`s give up all those records for one Super Bowl trophy. He`d say yes, and that he wouldn`t share it with anyone who doesn`t catch passes or wear Isotoner gloves blocking for him. The time is now Peyton to grow up and avoid being like the QB of Christmas past. Your final greatness will be judged by team titles, not just gaudy passing stats, just ask Dan.
Things that make me question the NFL`s collective IQ in no particular order:
Psssst...Lovie Smith I think Carolina may throw to Steve Smith, so you might wanna have a guy or three on him every play. (Pathetic coaching & coverage Bears!)
Jim Hasslett, despite being recently fired after a miserable 3-13 record with the Saints is a leading candidate for the job in Detroit and Buffalo.(At least Mike Tice won a few games!)
The refs in the Indianapolis game. My new favorite call replacing "He was giving him the business" is now "There was no penalty or offsides...play the down over." (Troy Polamalu`s pick a close second.)
Why have instant replay if after they review using it they reverse it to the WRONG call?
Peyton Manning pointing the blame on his offensive line. Sure Peyton, you were very calm and in control IN A FREAKIN HOME PLAYOFF GAME!!! There will never be a "next year."
Dan Dierdorf describing that he was a jumbo XL at age 12. Thanks Dan, one more for your Hall of Fame broadcasting resume.
Chump Baily for his "Did anyone get the plate on that Mack truck that smashed me moment?"
Anyone who critacizes Tony Dungy. Players lose games. Waving off the punt team...oh Peyton our hero! How about standing in and making some throws to your playmakers(ie Harrison & Wayne) instead of all the nonsence at the line of scrimage.
Ted Ferguson Bud Light daredevil- Pah-Lease do you think that dumb #### would have a hot girlfriend?
Colts fans have to be furious after watching the "most accurate" kicker in NFL history kick one sideways to lose a home playoff game. I think it couldn`t have happened to a bigger jerk! All season and game long that panzie sat with his cap on backwards hoping to do his pattented chest bump with the punter. Yeah Mike the earring looked real cute. Good thing you don`t have the strength to kick off or do a single thing to help. Peyton was wrong about alot of things yesterday, but one assesment he made about Mike Vanderjagt was 100% correct..."Stupid drunken kicker." The ghost of Scott Norwood has been exorcised!
I hate to say it, but the Patriots are healthy and setting up for another playoff run. I really can`t stand to see them win again, and sure the Colts look unstopable...but I`m concerned. Don`t think for a second that the Patriots don`t relish the role of dissed champions who have been written off and already whipped once by the legend Peyton Manning. Playoff football is a different beast, and even played in the dome they could give Indi fits. It`s not that I`m impressed by shutting out Chucky`s Buc's...they are overrated. It`s the methodical style the Patriots use. While the focus stays on the Colts run at regular season perfection, as it should I just can`t help thinking that behind that curtain is the coach in his hoodie controlling everything.
Before you go crazy and blast me, I`m just expressing my concern for how easy the Colts have made it look this season. It`s more than the dome field junk, short of Cinci`s offense no one has managed much of a fight. Sorry Jack Dull Rio & Co. 0-2 is just that...deal with it. I have this sinking feeling that the hated Patriots, are getting healthy at the right time. Sure their division is a cupcake, and yes the Colts trounced them earlier. But ask yourself, are you 100% confident that all the big game demons of Peyton, Dungy & Co. are gone IF the Pats make it to Indi for an AFC Championship showdown? I`m no Pats fan, but there is still a small % of a chance they could do the unthinkable and beat Peyton again. Let`s hope not so the Super bowl will be worth watching.
