Like any die hard football fan it`s tough to come down from having the NFL on every weekend and the great run of playoff action culminating in a Steelers championship. What makes this even tougher is when you turn on morning sports center, that`s before you start on the Busch 12 pack NASCAR fans. The sportscenter team is deftly attempting to explain how "bump drafting" is such a danger and problem in this weeks huge, collosal mega race which will be just like every other stinkin race this year. Point is the NFL refs were terrible most of this year and like every sport(I`ll save the NASCAR is NOT a sport debate for another time) there are constant adaptations in rules & officiating to keep it fair and interesting. I don`t give a damn about fat Tony Stewart cryin about being bumped around. The chubby man in the jump suit just needs to shut up, stomp the peddle and keep makin left turns. The NFL draft can`t get here fast enough with #### like Stewart`s doughnuts interviews and the failure of Olympic hotdogs on boards or Bode Miller. Give me as much pre draft anaylisis as possible or NCAA hoops because that other crud is unwatchable!
NASCAR sucks. I just don't get a thrill out of watching cars go around in a circle for hours on end. How this "sport" ever turned mainstream is beyond me. I'll give them credit though for moving from TVs in trailer parks to TVs in yuppieville.
You must not know much about NASCAR. The statements Tony Stewart made were certainly not "crying". I also bet that you have never been to a race, if you go to one I bet you would get a better respect for the sport and it's drivers.
I`m proud to know nothing about racing. Going to a race and partying like a rock star while drinking your face off is great...it`s what those of us who went to college did while we were in our early 20`s.
Unless you've spent significant time in a trailer watching NASCAR is out of the question. Grand Prix racing through the streets of Europe is kind of cool, though.
Burning fossil fuels in any "sport", is to me, anathema to athletics.
NASCAR and golf? I take mediocre utility baseball players as my talent any day of the week over Woods or Gordon. They are wealthy, though, so they are prime businessmen, like Trump or Cuban.
Usually people who don't like something, don't understand it. The same applies to people who don't enjoy auto racing. And that's OK because not everyone is able to understand and/or appreciate the intricacies of the technology, engineering and strategy that is involved in auto racing.
A good analogy would be that the strategy applied in auto racing is very similar to ball sports having play books, only stock car racing is much more dangerous and intellectually challenging.
Contrary to the belief of those who don't understand the sport, auto racing is really not about a driver, it's about the brilliance and the talents of the people behind the scenes who give the driver a car that can win. The best drivers in this current age of auto racing are not the hot shots that take chances, the best drivers are the ones who understand the technology of the sport and are able to communicate to their team what they need to make the car better.
Think of it as a quarterback that just isn't getting what he needs from his team to win the game. The best QBs are the ones who are able to communicate the deficiencies back to the coach so that the coach can use his expertise to make the call to fix the problem.
If it matters at all, my credentials are that I have 42 years of inside knowledge and involvement with both sports.
If you still can't see the similarities between the two sports, then I can only guess that you aren't considering Joe Gibbs as a proven leader of championship organizations; i.e., he has both football and NASCAR champi
Amen. Nascar sucks period. I don't mind drag racing if it's REAL cars dragging for bragging rights. It's kinda fun watching a 70 GTO vs a 69 Corvette. But unless it's real, forget it.
Who asked you anyway? I don't put football down but then I'm smart enough not to watch something I can't stand. NFl draft--now that's excitement, right up there with ice dancing and golf. What's the point, see who get's the most money, goes to prison, beats their girlfriend, shoot someone in a night club, wears the most car hood ornaments. You can have it! Once again stick with what you know!
10-4 Good buddy. By the way I caught an interview with Boomhauer...err Dale Jr after the race and my head still hurts. What the hell did he say? I`d prefer a yeh-haw and a jump over wrecked cars than any interviews with those necks.
