Beasley or Rose? Top 5 NBA Draft Picks
May 25, 2008 | 4:13PM | report this

1.) Chicago Bulls: Michael Beasley, Kansas State-The #1 pick is either going to be Beasley or Derrick Rose. While great point guards are rare in the NBA, the Bulls need is more at forward than guard.

2.) Miami Heat: Derrick Rose, Memphis-This would be an easy pick for the Heat. Should Chicago take Beasley, they go with Rose, if not, take Beasley.

3.) Minnesota Timberwolves: O.J. Mayo, USC-The Wolves could opt for Brook Lopez, but their need at guard is greater, Mayo would fit along great in Minnesota with last year's top pick, Corey Brewer.

4.) Seattle Supersonics: Brook Lopez, Stanford-This should be another pretty easy pick for Seattle. The Sonics are adequate at guard (Kevin Durant & Earl Watson) and forward (Jeff Green & Chris Wilcox), but need help at center.

5.) Memphis Grizzlies: Jerryd Bayless, Arizona-The Grizzlies could go a number of directions with this pick, but with Bayless still on the board, he's the best value.

I disagree with every one of your top five picks.

Here are mine and reasons why.

1) Chicago: Derrick Rose- Because the Bulls are shopping Kirk Hinrich and already have Drew Gooden, who played well for them last year after picking him up from CLE, and Tyrus Thomas, who is young and will probably have a breakout year. Thomas is the kind of player who would play well with a great PG like Rose because he is athletic and needs a PG with a high basketball IQ to get him the ball in good positions to score.

Miami: Michael Beasley - The Heat's greatest need is a big man now that Zo and Shaq are gone. Haslem is undersized. The Heat are parting ways with Jason Williams in order to get a veteran PG like Kyle Lowry or Beno Udrih. Wade needs a proven vet alongside him at guard, not a rookie.

Minnesoata: Brook Lopez - The Wolves have no center and no legitimate big man to complement the rising Al Jefferson. They already have Randy Foye and Rashad McCants and they've made it known that they will build around Jefferson and Foye. Why add another ego like Mayo to the mix and complicate the guard position? And the 6-11 McHale knows how important big men are to the success of a team.

Seattle Supersonics: Anthony Randolph- With Kevin Durant and Jeff Green emerging, the Sonics desperately need a quality power forward. Wilcox is solid but we all know one PF will not get the job done in the West. Randolph is an excellent fit here because he is athletic and blocks shots, which fit the Sonics style of ball. They'd like to get Lopez, but he won't be available at #4.

Memphis: Kevin Love - Why would the Grizzlies draft a guard when they are already loaded at that position? Common sense would tell you they will draft a PF especially with the departure of Pau Gasol and the uncertain status of free agent center Kwame Brown, who will sign elsewhere. They are soft in the middle with Milicic and Love's passing ability and court sense would mesh perfectly with guys like Rudy G-a-y, Crittenton, Navarro, and Conley. Love is a no-brainer.

Bayless, Mayo, and Gordon will all go somewhere between 6-12. Mayo or Gordon will most likely go to the Clippers, who will need a SG because Mobley is old and Maggette is outta there.

Later dude.

No way the Grizz take a point with Conley, Navarro, and Lowry already in the mix.

Although I think the Bulls would be making a colossal
mistake I believe that you are correct they'll probably cave in and pick Rose. McHale would probably pick Mayo, but the pressure from the media in Minny will eat him up for drafting a kid with so much baggage going in so he'll probably go safe and pick Lopez.

Seattle doesn't need Mayo and might opt for Bayless who will be a better pro than Rose, although I agree they need a big man.

Which leaves Memphis to draft Mayo, they have nothing to lose and cap space to spare.

Which of course leaves the third best player in the draft Darnillo Garnarlli(sic) to go to my beloved Knicks.

I agree with your picks, but I think Jerryd Bayless would be the best pick for seattle.

Mayo is a SG, right?

Eric Gordon could be the sweetest of the draft.

Although Beasley and Rose will be franchises for years. Not sure about Lopez. Is Mayo that good a shooter?
