I find it offensive, digrating, and disrepecting when "NASCAR FANS" taunt drivers and fans just because of where they are from ie the SOUTHERN UNITED STATES, the way they talk ie their use of the english language (just because a person does not say things the way you do DOES NOT MAKE THEM STUPID AND UNEDUCATED). What this is to me is a full blown BIGOT who does not have the respect of people around them to see that. I am the daughter of a southerner and have many friends that are from the south and they were just at offended as I was when I read the comments by 24x2 under my blog Junior's Doubters. Do not compare Junior to his father because he even knows that he will not be any where near his father in talent. But as for smarts he is a lot smarter than many people think he is, though he has a different way of saying things. I say a lot of things much like Junior does though most of the time I do correct myself or someone tells me I did say something wrong.
Wow. Are you freakin kidding me?? I went back and read that blog AND the comments. You missed the bus totally on Pea's (24x2). Plus if you'd taken 3 seconds to read her profile you'd see she was from Ga. Last time I checked it was a Southern state.
Plus, she has a point. Jr might be a nice guy and an okay driver, but you have to admit he's not the most well spoken guy out there. My sis is a huge Jr fan and my bro in law and I tease her all the time about how he sounds like that Boomhauer guy on King of the Hill. She doesnt go all ballistic on us for it either. Nor are we being bigots. So make sure you get the point of a comment before you go slamming people for them.
Also, you are mad at people for coming down on Jr, yet you came down on a few drivers yourself in that blog. That's the trouble with a lot of Jr Nation, they can dish it but they sure can't take it. I like Jr ok. He's not my fav driver in the world but there's nothing wrong with him. Yeah he does some good things. But you blasted Smoke and company because they dont. Well let me tell you. Smoke is one of the FOUNDING members of Victory Junction. Jr is not. Smoke's given more to that camp than any of the other drivers. And if he gets out there and promotes things like the Chile Bowl and the Prelude, then good for him. He uses his celebrity to help. If he can bring more money towards great causes by getting his fans involved, then more power to him. Plus he does a lot of things that DONT get much if any news coverage. So before you start slinging stuff, do your research.
ALL the drivers have their good and bad points. All of them have fans. BUT, Jr is not GOD, he never was GOD and never will be GOD. It's time that some of Jr. Nation realized this.
Oh and one more thing....it's DEGRADED, not digrated. There's no cheese here to grate. Unless of course, you'd like to serve some with your whine.
I think the people from the south are some of the nicest and charming people I have met and I love their southern drawl!
Does it really matter if Jr does not speak as elouqently as a Jeff Gordon? I don't think so.
Since when do you judge a person by the way they talk? What they say, is far more important.
Jr is respectful and well mannered unlike some we could name.
Jr ,just stay the way you are. A real southern gentleman and a darn good driver!
Not to mention pretty dang SAVVY to boot!
You will always risk making a big mistake if you "judge a book by its cover".
Having said that, there's a certain hilljack twang that has spread across the country that is a pretty good indicator that you MAY be talking to a, ... well, ... a hilljack.
I know, I know, Colonel Sanders had a hilljack twang, and Foghorn Leghorn too - - no, wait a minute - they had refined "southern gentlemen" accents. The guys outside the Biskits 'n Gravee trailer at your local State Fair talking about those dad gummed TYOTAs ruinin' thu great trudishuns uh "nas'-cor" 'n evathang else thut's great about thu USA - THOSE are hilljacks.
It's just one subset of dufus, so don't fret - there are plenty of other dufuses with other identifying characteristics. And as mentioned earlier, they're EVERYWHERE now, not just in the south.
"I find it offensive, digrating, and disrepecting when "NASCAR FANS" taunt drivers and fans just because of where they are from"
please tell us all what digrating means since it appears to be one of those made up "southern" words that doesn't appear in any reputable dicitonary of which I'm aware. Maybe it's in the same dictionary MRJjrfan used for the word savey? Now please don't think I am denigrating southerners or anyone in Jr. Nation. I'm a huge Jr. fan who is pretty savvy myself - lol.
BTW I went back and read 24x2's comments and find nothing offensive about them. Perhaps you are just too sensitive.

I don't understand this blog at all. First, of the top 12 drivers in the sprint car standings only Jr is from the "confederate flag flying" south today and from what I see it's more southerners taunting non southerners. I'm from Oklahoma and many Okies consider themselves southerners. So tell me who is the "southern driver" that people are being disrespectful to? Jr? LOL What has he done in the past two years to respect?
As far as people hating on each other's favorite drivers I don't mind. I like Kyle Busch and most hate on him. I just laugh it off and say NOW WHAT? When he wins another race. Maybe you Jr nation people are just a little sensitive due to it being over two years since you could say NOW WHAT? when he's won????
sdstrasser....24x2 is many things, I bloviate and may exhibit an attitude of a hostile nature. I can be a scolding, bad tempered woman marked by a strong tendency in favor of a particular point of view. I would be more then happy to apologize, but I need a reason. Being called a, "Bigot" is proceeding in a direction opposite to that which is positive and it is you who come across as intolerant of those who differ in opinions from yours.
It is your misrepresentation, and other JR. fans that I constantly encounter that belittle, and abominate other drivers. This giving offense to my sensibilities and deliberately violating my accepted principles of right and wrong. Emphasize the popularity all you want, that does not change the facts or make your opinions more credible.
My hopes like yours lies in thaumaturgy, for JR. and his fans.
I might add that Sweet's notice of my living in Ga. should be a key factor as to someone who pays taxes in a southern state and is embarrassed by how it, and it's people are perceived. So, slap me silly, and help me shake-an-bake my way to a better tomorrow!
goutdaddy- I doubt the folks in Boston would agree with you :o).
At least Dale Jr. finds no need to utter the words "umm," "uh," or "you know" every other word like happens in other sports. One of these days I would love to see a reporter tell an athlete "No, I don't know. That's why I'm asking you."
photogr- It's 'sacre bleu" and it means "holy blue." I know it doesn't make sense, but they can't say "sacre merde" on television.
24x2,
There you go again using words that 97.83% of the people who read these blogs don't understand - what are you some kind of elitist Yankee who just happens to have relocated south of the Mason-Dixon line? lol. You are always entertaining and educational but most of those who read your comments gave up on education after their 3rd year in 5th grade. Please dumb your comments down a little so even us Hoosiers know what the heck ya'll are saying. :-)
P.S. Articulate, strong opinions that fly in the face of that portion of Jr. Nation what only understands scarlet-neck dialogue will not be tolerated further. Now you just quit riling up the poor, huddled masses of beer swillin', grammar killin', regular folks on here, ya hear?
The butchering of this language is appalling, and perhaps the critic of Junior was suggesting that.
I love the Southern folks and their drawls, and find them to be no worse when it comes to speaking correctly, than anyone else. They also tend to be the politest populous.
It's the double negatives and the "she don't never do that" that drive me bonkers.
Wow, a blogger from Oregon publicly calling a blogger from Georgia a bigot against southerners. Don't see that every day. Someone is confused. Is it me?
MC,
LOL - ah, ummm, well, ahh, nope, it ain't you what is confused, least not im my humble Hoosier opinion. I agree with Lisa (yeah pigs flying again) that it is sad that our society has become so tolerant of the butchering of the English language that even teachers seem to have given up on correcting students for gross grammatical errors. Heck, you see and hear the words "I've got" or "we've got' in major ad campaigns all the time i.e. "we've got the lowest prices" or "I've got a great deal for you" and just a few years ago it became all the rage among newscasters to start half their sentences with the word NOW. Now, give me a break, please. Ex. Now, today President Bush lied to every American again. Now Democrats are saying it is just more of White House politics as usual. Now, opinion polls show the majority etc. Now, now, now, I've got to go. I've got other blogs on which to rant. I've got more bad grammar to chastise. Really, I have.
P.S. Lisa, at least now we know what it was that drove you bonkers (smiling).

hoosier...lol! Hey, no one is perfect. But when someone changes the English language because they are too lazy to speak it correctly, or attempt to speak it correctly, then they will get hammered. I find almost everyone here on FOXSports to be intelligent people with good command of the language.
Junior obviously did not focus in school, and while he seems like a nice guy with an endearing good ol boy personality, he could make some attempts to speak correctly. It's embarrassing to hear poor grammar on television....no matter how fat the speaker's wallet may be.
Lisa (aka Bonkers),
Well there should be at least SOME incentive for Jr. to improve and his publicist or other handlers should be working with him to help him do so. After all, corporate sponsors pay the biggest bucks to the stars who are also great spokesmen and women. I realize that he appeals to a certain demographic but with a little effort, his appeal could really broaden. I consider myself a Jr. fan but hope he is getting and heeeding at least some advice in terms of how to become more polished. As for the portion of Jr. Nation that represents some of the worst fans in racing, maybe he should do more to set them straight as well.
Now, as long as wear splitting hares I hate the whey sum ove my fellow NASCAR bloggers use the word----THERE----win they really mean---THEIR. AAARRRRGGGGHHHH!
Nice to see everyone is getting along and playing well together. LOL The thing that drives me nuts is when drivers and announcers say "We've ran" blah, blah, blah. I wish they would learn when to use run and ran correctly. I guess we all have our 'picky' moments.
BTW, folks, I'd talk exactly like Dale does if I could make the money he makes. Heck, I'd wear Wrangler Jeans and drink AMP for that kind of money.LOL, again.
vol...you have to admit, he hasn't forgotten his roots. He's a country boy and dresses down, and I like that about him. He has vamped up his image, but remains a good ol boy. He's smart in that respect...seeing Jr in a 3-pc suit just doesn't seem right, and I hope he never changes that.
Being someone who was born and raised in a northern state and also lived in Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana...I can safely say this. Not ALL southerners are as dumb as they sound.
When I went to New York City I used to really enjoy the slang they have with words.
Amusingly, they really got a kick out of my southern accent. Some were put out by it but I explained to them that they sounded like some one from outer space.
Slap me in the middle of Iraq and I would say " Howdy Ya'all"
I like Jr. love his accent, I love the south! I am just tired of the south being portrayed as the home of inbreed fools! When, one group of fans represents the sport as a whole, I believe then they bare the burden of an accepted social behavior. No, flying objects thrown at my drivers.....Please!
You write about someone's grammar, use words like thaumaturgy, yet your comment in "Junior Doubters" (which caused the reaction from sdstrasser) contained the phrase (quote) "lacks the ability to express himself in an intelligent manor."
What "manner" of correct language is this? I'd say that most residences are lacking in intelligence...
Then, your quote,
"I like Jr. love his accent, I love the south! I am just tired of the south being portrayed as the home of inbreed fools! When, one group of fans represents the sport as a whole, I believe then they bare the burden of an accepted social behavior.
The word you should have used is "inbred". It's hard to "bear" the burden of correcting others when you aren't grammatically correct yourself.
The concept of NASCAR fans like 24x2 discussing the proper use of the ENGLISH language is HILARIOUS!
Good luck with that...

nba,
Seems unfortunate that in trying to appear smarter than others you fail to discern the difference between typos or spelling errors and poor grammar. Methinks thou doth protest too much.
volfan69,
Nice to see you again but as for nba, I'm not impressed although this is the first comment by him I have ever seen. When a non-racing fan comes on a racing blog and criticizes a regular for whom I have a great deal of respect, I feel it is my duty as a friend to tell it like it is to mister tiny ego whose self-esteem is so lacking he must criticize an error in spelling or a typo. Especially when he thinks that person isn't "grammatically correct" but then points out NO errors in grammar. Let him go back to the boring old nba.
nba, that is just too darn funny! HR13, I'm not always on top of basketball, but nba gives me a break and cuts me slack when I have questions. We are all entitled to our opinions of all sports no matter how much we know about that sport. Thats all I'm trying to say.
BTW, it is poor grammar.
HR13, it was 24x2 that started with the correct use of the language in her comments on sdstrassers' earlier blog, I was just responding to her hypocrisy. My ego isn't the only thing that's tiny around here, apparently!
volfan69,
You know I respect your views and your intellect but you are wrong about the definition of grammar.
The study of how words and their component parts combine to form sentences.
The study of structural relationships in language or in a language
Remember, I'm the college professor with the genius level IQ here - as Rush would say - talent on loan from God - don't ever doubt me - lmao
BTW - just for the record, I sent 24x2 a PRIVATE FoxMail message to let her know about her errors - some of which you apparently didn't find. In other words, I had the class to do it privately because she is a respected regular here - you are an unwelome i.d. i.o.t. as far as I'm concerned. You're entitled to your opinions just as you are entitled to be wrong about what constitutes errors in grammar. I'm entitled to prove your lack of knowledge publicly since you choose to attack others that way.

BTW volfan69,
If you'd rather side with non-racing fans against the regulars here, that is fine but don't expect me to never criticize some of your outlandish opinions in the future. I'm nice to the regulars who back each other in the face of unfair criticism from outsiders. If you want to be treated like an outsider, I'll be happy to accommodate you. There are plenty of people I cut slack who incorrectly spell they're or there or their or then versus than etc. because they have given me no reason to embarrass them. For those who don't want to play nice, I have plenty of intellectual ammunition to use against them.
Gee, HR13, imagine an "outsider" invading your territory!
I'm HONORED to be "corrected" by a Limbaugh-quoting "college professor with the genius level IQ"!
Obviously, the use of words with incorrect spelling that does not mean what the writer intended (due only to the fact that the word as spelled means something else) can't possibly be considered grammatically incorrect.
I'll bet you wrote the Merriam-Webster unabridged dictionary, and I certainly hope you add a footnote in the next edition explaining that misuse of words that sound the same with different spellings and meanings does not constitute poor grammar.
I don't agree, Mr. "genius". You know what they say about Ph.D.'s ...
nba,
Just too smart to fall for you smoke and mirrors and typical B.S. when you can't admit you are wrong - that's a problem common to many who write comments here. At least 24x2 was gracious enough to send me a thank you note for pointing out the spelling errors she made in her haste to type her comments. Not everyone can type as fast and as accurately as they think. She has class - you have none.
Try to keep up. There's a difference between misuse and misspelling, misuse of a word clearly falls under grammar. Inbreed is a verb, it was used as an adjective...
You are the person who is wrong, with your narrow-minded definition of grammar allowing you to completely miss the big picture.
I enjoyed your "classy" use of the word tiny, and your overall welcoming nature in general.
sdstrasser, I hope you saw my comments as supportive, and you are responsible for my stopping by due to your excellent blog title, "Disrespecting people for who they are".
I agreed with your take, "just because a person does not say things the way you do DOES NOT MAKE THEM STUPID AND UNEDUCATED".
When this turned into a discussion about the proper use of the language, I thought it was pretty funny! Then when Mr. genius showed up, it was funnier still!
Have a nice day all!

24x2 is an educated and intelligent person who incorrectly spelled a couple of words - ergo not grammatical errors such as a singular verb with a plural subject, using a double negative, ending a sentence with a preposition, etc. Nice try nba but spelling errors and typos do NOT constitute grammar errors regardless how you try to spin it. But thanks for playing - now go back to the NBA where the athletes are so much smarter than race drivers - lol.

Little mind,
I do not agree with that blanket statement. Many words can be used as different parts of speech and, especially in informal writing, it is not unusual or incorrect at all to do so.
As for exercise, if you were a regular here, you would know that at 60 I still race most Friday and Saturday nights and workout regularly to stay in shape to continue to race. Don't know how old a guy has to be to want to use that pic for an avatar but I'll match my conditioning against yours any day. Get a race car and come and play any time you wish - I'll show you how easy it is to go over the fence - lol.
I love it!!! I am not representing anything, I am not a "role model!" That, is how this whole thing started. I am not an educator (HELLO) thank goodness!
I am a child of the Webster Dictionary, my father's form of punishment. Plus, I have been in the south for 21 years.....cut me some slack. Again, I am not in the public eye.....get my point now?
I am Shaun Strasser a single Female age 39 years old living in Grant County Oregon (Central/East ern part of the State) which is a lot dryer then the western part of Oregon. I actually live closer to Boise Idaho then I do Portland Oregon. The town I live in is Mount Vernon and I love MY Racing especially Dale Jr., Donnie Schatz, and John Force
