As Tom Brady has gone down with an injury to his left knee, the Patriots start the season in dismal fashion. Sammy Morris, Brady's last line of defense, looked to be an indirect cause of the injury. Had he not attempted to block the defender in an absolutely cheap and heinous fashion (jerking his facemask around while the defender was on the ground), perhaps the hit would have been clean and Brady would be okay. However, that is not the case, and Tom did not seem to be able to put pressure on his left knee. While I'm not a doctor, that does not look like a good sign. So Matt Cassel, grab your protein pills and put your helmet on...
CBS reports that Brady is in fact done for the year. Tough break for the Pats, as they'll continue the trend of one of the previous year's Super Bowl teams missing the playoffs. Matt Cassel has looked good today, but let's not forget that he is up against Kansas City.
I wish people would stop making Tom Brady into some sort of " Superhero" person slash quaterback.
You are only as good as your supporting cast. Perfect example, the two best quaterbacks to ever play the game. One who still plays and of course the other who retired from the Dolphins (Dan Marino). Between the two they have 3 SB apperances with Brett Farve winning the only one out of the three.
Tom Brady has been surrounded not only by a great offensive line, wide recievers, running backs, but their defense has been in the top five since he has been the leading quaterback for the Patriots. If Marino and Farve had a complete suppoting cast that Brady has had then the Dolphins and the Packers would have very easily won 6 or 8 SB between them, if not more. Your only as good as those who surround you. If Tom Brady played for a different team then the news of his injury would be far less attractive than what it is. The reason is none other than he would not be as great as he is because he would lack the supporting talent around him. Superman, superhero, super quaterback... no... Super Patriots. They will still win their division and will still make a serious run to the SB.

meanjoe- I've always said that Brady put up superhuman numbers last year because he had a superhuman receiving core, but you've got to be kidding me if you think the Patriots will be winning games under Matt Cassel. He had a great game against the Chiefs, but they are the Kansas City Chiefs, and he'll come down to earth real fast against real football teams.
The most stunning aspect of it all is where your argument completely shoots itself in the foot, in the sense that the rest of this New England team looked so incredibly average without Brady on the field. The Pats defense is getting older by the day, and the offense isn't the same. A record-setting offense that controls the clock and the tempo o####ame will make any defense look a hell of a lot better.
As for Brady being average, again, you've got to be out of your mind. In a career roughly half as long as Favre's, he's won three Super Bowls and has been more clutch than Favre in big pressure situations. Every time he's got the ball and two minutes on the clock, he seems to get even more dangerous. And that is not even considering the fact that his receiving cores during his Super Bowl seasons have never even been close to the level of talent they have now (and had last year), and he was a huge factor in his team winning it all in those season.
