He’s not a Puerto Rican but he’s speaking so that you know.
Alex “Am I Dominican or am I American?” Rodriguez is serving notice (I never understood why that mattered so much to so many). Back off all you punks who jump up to get beat down, cause he’s back, way back, hitting home runs into the black back. Playing with silent inspiration. Keeping an eye on the Holy Land. A hypothetical destination. Say, who is this walk-off man? If you hadn’t heard A-Rod hit another one out, as the Yankees completed a three game sweep of Cleveland. This time, a 3-run jack, to cap a bottom of the 9th comeback, after being down 6-2 to start the inning in fact.
I don’t know which shrink or sports psychologist Alex finally settled on, but whoever it is deserves double pay. The man is scowling at foes, cutting it up with teammates and openly enjoying life for the first time since he got to New York. All you depressed souls out there might want to do some research and figure out who this good doctor is. Rather than asking for A-Rod’s autograph, you might want to ask for Professor Cure All’s business card instead.
I didn’t want to come out bragging earlier on but enough is enough. As Popeye once said, I’ve had all I can stands and I can’t stands no more. “Arrogant” Yankees fans like myself get blamed for everything from east coast bias to global warming. Apparently because we blow so much hot air. I figure if I'm going to get accused of it, I might as well live it every once in awhile. You can take this slice of not so humble pie and stick it down your throat. Are all you A-Rod bashers liking how this tastes? (and this goes for POSER Yankees fans that boo MVPs too) Revenge is a dish best served cold, but red-hot baseball style isn't bad either.
This just could go down as the best April of all-time. Alex already has 10 homeruns and 26 RBIs to go along with a most robust .351 batting average. This in a month where the weather has made it seem more like February. Wait until New York turns into Hot Town. What a summer in the city it could be. It’s still so early that it might as well be 5AM on Monday, but this is how seasons for the ages begin. This is how records get broken. It would be poetic irony if in the year that Barry Bonds passes Hank Aaron’s career homerun run record, A-Rod blows up like Chernobyl and claims the single season mark. Wouldn’t that drink go down nice and smooth at your local Player Haters Club?
Over hill, over dale, we have hit the dusty trail
And those Yankees go rolling along
In and out, hear them shout, on to Boston there's no doubt
And those Yankees go rolling along
Forget the Red Coats you stinking Bean Eaters. The Yanks are coming, the Yanks are coming. If you live in Nebraska or somewhere else that isn’t “east”, and you just can’t stand anymore of the best rivalry in sports, then press the button to change the channel. Either that or avoid the Fox Network on Saturday and ESPN on Friday/Sunday altogether. To be honest, I can’t figure out what’s wrong with you. What do you have against a little playoff quality baseball in April?
A-Rod... A-Rod... A-Rod is on fire. He don’t need no water let your jealous envy burn. Burn jealous suckers…burn.
Damn that felt good. I’ve been sticking up for him since day one. And if you don’t know, now you know.
Hey Rivjo, nothing wrong with being a Yankee's fan. Yee ha! Funny post my man and A-Rod is definately on fire. Does this mean another House Investigation Hearing on steroids.....yikes! Great stuff.
You got that right steelerfan. All those others try and make us feel bad for backing our team. I've been a fan since Bucky Dent hit one outta the pawk in Fenway when I was like 5 years old.
Looking forward to those games in Boston this weekend.
Thanks for reading. I hope some Red Sox fans, or Yankees haters in general, have enough "stones" to stop by and give A-Rod some freakin props.
And here's me thinking that you were gonna' be talkin' about Sanjaya Malakar from American Idol. Oh sorry , my bad !
They're both alike in some ways and then they're not in others. Both are talented although it's a matter of opionion with Sanjaya. But we can't mistake the fact that they're both self conscious when they appear in public. They always want to do and say the right things. A-Rod with his little foibles and Sanjaya with that somewhat effeminate look of his might just go all the way to winning the whole damn thing ! A-Rod if he keeps on this pace will probably blow a hole through Bonds' single season home run record. And then that'll set the tongues wagging as to whether or not he's on something. To which he can reply that his analyst put him on something to curb his bouts of depression and self doubt.
Not knockin' your man but it's all in good fun. Just like it was with Imus.
Sanctimonious #### that he is along wih Sharpton !

Ahh, ARod... Pay-Rod... he is on fire now, obviously this can't keep up all year long, so I imagine a good chunk of Yankees fans will hate him soon enough.
Honestly, I get why you stuck up for him, though really if you look at the guy's numbers, they have never been bad. Just wait if NY gets to the postseason... then see how he does. He needs to push them to the next level.
But anyway, on to real teams... like the O's... hmm, so... in my own world at least. Later - KP
Rampant---Ah my friend, thank you for stopping by. You are one of my all time favorite foils when it comes to critiquing and disliking my beloved Yankees.
On that note...did you just mention A-Rod and Sanjaya in the same breath?...why I oughtta!!!...you are damn lucky I like you so much ramp.
Just kidding of course. Only playoff baseball will tell with A-Rod of course. With our pitching concerns I only hope he gets the chance. I believe he has cleared his head, or at least I hope. If we are fortunate enough, we will find out down the road.
God I hate it when A-Rod does well. Unfortunately, I have nothing bad to say about his performance at this time. He's coming through for his team in the clutch, which has always been the biggest knock on him.
A-Rod still wears purple lipstick and frosts his hair. I had to find something negative to say about him.
kp---After a start like this, those IDIOTS who are IMPERSONATING Yankees fans better keep their freaking mouths shut. I know A-Rod is a man and all but I place a big chunk of the blame for his struggles directly on those people at the stadium who booed him. As fans how could you do something that hurts one of the players and your team?
Hey as for your Orioles, you guys did beat us 2 out of 3. Your record is just about the same as ours too. Hang in there. It's early and I like you guys alot better than those Boston bums.
Manrub---I have to admit, his post-season was dismal. However, as I recall the Red Sox did miss the playoffs last year. Lowell played pretty good, but we all know that Red Sox nation would have been better with A-Rod in it. In fact they might have made the post season last year and also won another series or two with him.
I get a great big laugh when you Red Sox fans say you're glad that trade with the Rangers for A-Rod fell through. Funny, that's not what Red Sox fans were saying when they thought they had him. Kinda like the fable about the fox and sour grapes.
I don't blame you though. If the shoe was on the other foot and he went to Boston after nearly being in New York I would hate him too.
A) If dogs are loyal then consider me a St. Bernard. I don't turn on my own. I'm not Italian but I'm just like the Olive Garden Restaurant. "When you're here, you're family" As long as A-Rod is here, that's what he is to me.
B) Brooms huh? You may be right. I like your spirit but methinks you are itchin' to write another Pro-Yankees blog. It wouldn't surprise me if Nostradomas has another bet on the table as we speak.
I'll tell you this much Steeler. Going into the series I am sure that Red Sox nation is hyped. Their rotation is set.
Friday: Curt Schilling vs Andy Pettite
Saturday: Josh Beckett vs Jeff Karstens (rookie)
Sunday: Matsuzaka vs Chase Wright (rookie)
If the Sox don't take at least 2 out of 3 with these matchups, all those bean towners are going to need extra beano for all the gas attacks they are going to have.
The Yankees are going to have to score a lot of runs but they can. I don't care who the hell is pitching.
Tilt---####-Rod...hee hee...how originally clever. Too bad you were sweating him until the deal the Sox had with Texas fell apart.
You better hope that Moose and the boys spend the whole year on the DL. Or that you manage to get a big enough lead to nurse. Wait, you tried that last year when the Yanks had all those injuries too. We know how that turned out.
For your sake you better hope the Sox sweep. You do have the Big 3 lined up after all. Wouldn't want all the "Chicken Littles" in Red Sox nation to start running around this early in April if this series goes poorly now.
rivjo ...... In all seriousness A-Rod could go to have a monsterous year. And it could all end up being to no avail as the pitching just isn't up to it. With Pettite and Mussina you can't be sure that the two will survive the entire season. And from there what's there really left on that pitching roster ? Other Chien Ming-Wan but apart from that, what ? I know that you've got the 'Sandman' Mariano Rivera but he's essentially just the 'closer' and not much else ! Where's all the young pitching talent that's supposed to have been being nurturing in the alleged 'farm system' ?
Check out the post I've written under the guise of justanotherfan. If a 7' 6" Russian Falls In The Woods Do We Really Care ? It's a post that I'd set up for a work colleague whose since been fired by UPS.
So I've kept it going by throwing up a few original posts. You'll probably be aware that it's about Valuev's loss of his heavyweight title.
Riv: Well, you know what we call him around here, so I don't even need to mention it. Yep, he's doing great right now. In fact, it's just the opposite of the way he usually starts the year.
So well, in fact, that Tom Hicks has decided he would rather pay him to play FOR the Rangers again than against them. Me, personally, I'm betting on Anaheim. Either way, he's back in the division, and that's not a pretty thought; but he's gotta go somewhere since Cashman said they won't extend his contract.
As for this weekend: Evil Empire Version 1.0 versus Version 2.0: 1-2-1-2-1-2...meh, I don't really care, we all know that I don't like either version.
Cuz---It really does look like he's having fun again. I'm happy for him but then again I'm biased.
You're right though. He takes far too much criticism for ANYTHING he does. You always tell it like you see it, which is usually right or pretty close to the truth. I respect that. Still, I do not get why you and others feel the way you do. His overall level of dislike confuses me.
ramp---You may be correct about the pitching. As for Moose, Wang and Pavano they already have not survived the entire season. But you know what. I'd rather get the bugs out of the system earlier than later. As long as they are around in October that's all that really matters.
Also, unlike in years past, the team has a plethora of young arms to call upon. Take a look at what teams like the Tigers and A's have done when using young pitchers. People have become accustomed to knocking the Yankees farm system. As much mention has been made, Cashman has done a fine job retooling and now he have youth we can call on in a pinch.
I'll be sure to stop by later on today and check out your latest.
sleepless---I know it pains you to say anything even remotely close to nice about Alex. As a Seattle fan you are part of one of the few groups that even has a right.
Cashman may have implied that A-Rod makes enough money already, but things have a way of changing. The Angels may be one of the few teams capable of paying his salary. However, you assume that Rodriguez will want out based on his treatment last year. There is always the real possibility that he will choose to stay rather than quit on finding success in New York. That is what a competitor would do. His career speaks for itself. He may not be liked but he is a competitor.
Either way, we'll find out. As for Seattle, they better be extra careful with King Felix. Don't want to take chances there. I wouldn't want them messing around with the Empire's future stud ace of the rotation. You do know it's inevitable that we take him off your hands. It's nature's way in baseball.
Riv - I don't think that many have ever questioned A-Rod's studliness during the regular season. He's a .300 hitter who will give you 30-40 HR's and over 100 RBI year in and year out. There were some regular season questions on his fielding and in particular, his throwing last year.
The question with A-Rod has always been..."Why does he disapear in the post-season?"
That doesn't mean that he can't eventually show up. It just means that many question the tightness of his sphincter during post season play.
ALSO...I'm a huge fan of James Taylor. I like how you worked those lyrics in. Very clever.
Damn I didn't know we were getting blamed for Global Warming too.
I appreciate A-Rods game during the regular season, he puts up big numbers and is always in the MVP hunt.
But you know how things work, he could take the season off and no one would care. As long as he had a good post season.
Pace yourself A, leave a little for the post season. Because you know we are going to win the division!
Riv: My guess, since the M's locked up Betancourt and Lopez aith long term contracts in the last few weeks, Felix is next for protection's sake. So don't go looking for him to be knocking at the Empire's door any time soon.
Rivjo...I generalize a lot when talking about Yankee fans, but primarily...I just don't like the unreasonable expectations they have. I suppose every team has some that are "those kind of fans", but the Yankee fans are just in the spotlight more.
It made me sick to see A-Rod booed on Opening Day. Give me a break! Yes, by A-Rod standards, he struggled last year. His defensive errors were almost doubled...his offensive numbers dipped. But geez, how many other players can "struggle" like that...and still produce top 10 numbers?
It's nice to see him enjoying the game. He was/is probably the best player of this generation.
This is a perfect example of why I'd like to put EVERYTHING except for baseball aside. No steroid talk, no attitude problems, no contract issues...just baseball. A-Rod has been consistently playing at a higher level for several years. Hall-of fame material, maybe even "Best Player Ever" material. It's just too bad that many people are too distracted to notice.
A-Rod looks like a completely different player this season. I know most people focused on his failure in the postseason last year, but he was having trouble well before that. He just looked like a player who had lost all confidence in his ability.
I know he'll have his ups and downs this season, but he's certainly looked so much more confident this year from day one. And that confidence could help him in the playoffs this year.
No not all Yankee fans are like that but MOST are. After April is over, A-rod will cool down to his "usual" self. Meaning he will still be a top producer but it won't be good enough for Yankee fans.
Think about it this way, it took for him to have the most amazing April ever just for you to write a blog like this. And you are one of the "good" Yankee fans.
The reason good is in quotations is because there is no such thing as a good Yankee fan.

Flying Pig---Glad you liked the little James Taylor throw in. I listen to all types of music. I like him when I need to really mellow out.
As for A-Rod's post-seasons. Those were just in recent years. He has had some good playoff series prior to that. I see no reason why he can't do well assuming the Yankess go to the playoffs again. I remember when people said players like Dave Winfield and Barry Bonds couldn't get the job done in the post-season. Eventually they did perform. I bet A-Rod will shine again.
demon---So glad that my boy A-Rod has you into baseball again. His skills are sure worth watching. Roll A-Rod roll.
NYace---I think the boo-birds are done and for the far foreseeable future. He would have to go totally into the tank for that to happen. As for the playoffs we shall see if we get there. I think he rides the wave all year.
shooter---I was at a Yankkes game last year and if someone near me booed I would tell them to shut up. Here's the thing about generalizing about people at Yankees stadium.
Let's say they have a crowd of 50,000 people. For a typical big game that is very common. Let's say that 10% of the fans start booing. That's 5,000 A-Holes making unneccesary noise. Do you know how loud 5,000 jerks can be?
My point is this. Even if 1 out of 10 fans choose to boo, it sounds so much worse. It's not all the fans or anywhere near most. That's what people have to realize.
I'm with you though. Even if it was 5% or 25%, it's totally stupid. They give all of us a bad name and an inaccurate one.
Nooch---Thanks for reading Nooch. He just looks so different. Body language speaks louder than words. A-Rod's is speaking volumes. You can literally see it in his eyes. There comes atime when a man says "screw it". I think Alex had that moment. Thanks for reading.
FrankIrizarry---That's funny. When A-Rod does well there is Jeter, right there, sincerely cheering him on. The media makes too much of it.
PF---A-Rod is a beast. Thank you for admitting so, even though I do not blame you for disliking him. He did up and leave your franchise after all.
1) You know absolutely zero about Yankees fans. Most fans are nothing like what you claim. Your upstate NY bias against downstate still shines through even though you're in Florida now. Trust me I know all about you guys. Ny wife is from Syracuse. Blame the city for using up too much of the state's resources, even though the city generates most of the state's revenue.
2)You also know nothing about me and sticking up for A-Rod. I am indeed one of the "good" fans but I have long stuck up for him. It did not take this streak for me to do it. Talk is cheap so please check my archives. These are two great posts if I do say so myself.

I'll admit that I may have cut and pasted certain details in both blogs, but as you can see I have defended him for a LONG time.
Saying there is no such thing as a good Yankees fan is like saying Buffalo only gets a little bit of snow. Ridiculous.
However, I appreciate you pressing my buttons. I like getting all fired up. Enjoy the hockey playoffs. I hope the Rangers kick your ####.
Riv- I apologize if you've defended A-rod before, I just never saw them. And its obvious I didn't take the time to go back and check it out.
As for Yankee fans, I'm the only one in my entire immediate family that isn't a Yankee fan. In fact on my Dad's side there is only one other that isn't a Yankee fan.
My dad, uncles, cousins and brothers are all die-hard fans. My dad went to the World Series with his dad. Trust me when I say that I know ALL about Yankee fans.
I KNOW there is no good Yankee fan:)
As for NYC and the rest of the state, I always tell people who know nothing about New York that their are two New Yorks: New York City and New York State.
I've got no problem with NYC and if they use up most of the resources its because they have more people.
As for them producing most of the revunue, well again, they have more people. So really they should.
LGB---There are certainly just as many Yankees fans in upstate/central/western NY as there are in NYC. I jokingly say that the team is just about the only thing those people like about the city. My wife's entire family is as die hard as yours.
Also, no need to apologize. I wasn't as "mad" as I was pretending. I enjoy your type of banter. I do stick up for my teams though. I'm no fair weather guy.......
Ummm...except for hockey. I do like hockey a bit like I've said before. But not enough to follow the Rangers when they suck which has been for awhile. It's the only sport where I am guilty of this. However, I'll be watching their games and looking forward to your always spirited input on the Sabres.
As for A-Rod, I've got just one thing to say:
ALL YEAR LONG BABY...although not at this absurd pace of course. Nobody is that good.
Mean---Crazy is an understatement. More like institutionalized! Insane.
He'll no doubt slow down, but I think this will be an amazing year. His whole mentality seems different. I think he's been as low as he can get and he don't give a #### no more about #### boo-hounds. That's all that needed to change all along.
LGB---SNIFF... SNIIF... SNIFF. "I can't smell anything." David Wright looking for A-Rod's jock.
I really like David Wright though along with Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran. Those guys are good. I absolutely wanted the Yankls to spend their loot on Carlos. Whooo, whay a lineup that would be.
I also like to think of it as quick wit from experience. I don't go looking for trouble, in a #### talking sense (too much anyway). I'm more of a counter puncher.
I know what you mean though. Even when we're wrong we try and twist it just enough so we can still be partially right. There is no quit.
I'm a special ed teacher by trade. Funny, I spend my day wanting to say shut-up to people and then do the same here. Just can't seem to. That would be rude and most uncivilized.
I like to write and never met a thought I couldn't continue. My blogs, like this bio, tend to be far too long. I can admit it. If you make it to the end of one of my "essays" there's usually a message that could have been written in half the time by a better writer than me.
Did I mention I was a finalist in NGS II? No really I was, further proving that theyll let anyone in this place. I came in 10th, which is better than 16th I guess. Other than winning the 4th grade graduation writing award it was the biggest literary accomplishmen t of my life. I still haven't gotten used to being famous.
