Charley Casserly is apparently willing to risk his career on Mario Williams. If Reggie Bush is half as good as advertised, and Williams falters at all, this could be Casserly’s downfall, and will probably end his tenure not only with the Texans, but in the National Football League.
I was more than a little surprised that the Texans couldn’t trade down to another team.I doubt the Saints or the Titans would have taken him, so they could have switched picks with the Jets or the Packers, and still probably have had him, plus draft picks.A puzzling move, fershure.
I was disappointed to see A.J. Hawk go to the Packers, one slot above where the Niners picked.Still, Vernon Davis is an absolute beast who will split time with Eric Johnson, the best receiver on the team.I know nothing about their other first-round pick, Manny Lawson, but I’m glad to see they started filling the holes created by Andre Carter and Julian Peterson’s defections.
The Rams took Tye Hill with the 15th pick, and in a live chat on Thursday on espn.com, Tye said that if he could play for any team, the Rams would be his choice. He also said the strangest question he got asked in team interviews was, “What’s your drug of choice?”
I guess losing the Rose Bowl cost Reggie Bush, Lendale White, Matt Leinart and Winston Justice an awful lot of bonus money. How the mighty have fallen…
Some good picks by teams on the weekend: Arizona taking Leonard Pope, TE out of Georgia. I hear he tested pretty low, but he looks like a player to me.Detroit taking Daniel Bullocks. With him and Kenoy Kennedy, they have two of the hardest hitting safeties around.I also like Brian Calhoun, the little RB from Wisconsin that Matt Millen drafted.
I am a huge NFL fan, much to the chagrin of my wife, who understands I am not be disturbed between 11 am and 11:30 pm, EST each Sunday from September to January. She is truly a saint to tolerate me.
Oh, and Monday nights are out, too.
