KYLE BUSCH WINS AT DAYTONA BY A NARROW MARGIN
Jul 05, 2008 | 9:25PM | report this

                   KYLE BUSCH WINS AT DAYTONA

The last 50 laps of this race was quite exciting with leader changes lap by lap. As usual cautions bred cautions and this was no different this time at Daytona. As the laps were winding down we saw a behive of wrecks and spins taking out some notable drivers such as Johnson, Burton, Newman, and Gordon with 3 laps to go who had led over 40 plus laps.

Then the "big One " with 1 lap to go took out more drivers thus leaving Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards to battle it out before the caution came out ending the race. In the scoring loop at that instance it was Kyle Busch edging out Edwards by a fender.

Dale Jr. although leading over 45 laps was shuffled back to a 10th place by lap 9. Did not see the results but I consider he lost the draft with the leaders. Currently NASCAR shows him finishing in 8th.

Back to Kyle Busch. I cannot believe he is still hated by some of the fans and wonder why they cannot see the facts.  Kyle did not wreck any one in this race, he fell back due to steering problems but was able to make his way back up front, and was content for some time to stay behind Dale Jr. and Jeff Gordon before making his bid for the front. Certainly a clean text book case of racing in my view. So what are the Kyle haters excuses this time?

To cap this race off is the difficulty NASCAR is having placing the finishing positions for the drivers. Jr has went from third to 8th and Mark Martin is jumping back and fourth from 2nd to third. they have Kenseth as far back as 17th. Sounds like to me there is a problem with the scoring loops on the track. Kenseth did finish in the top 5 in my view of the race. Who would have thought technology can be so ineffective.

Photo- What was up with Kenseth hooking up with Kyle instead of Edwards? Then he comes out and gives some B.S. story that Edwards was not staying in the same line so it was hard for him to stay behind. I think it has more to do with what happened last year when Edwards was about ready to knock him out. Kenseth and Edwards are not the best of friends.

That likely was the case. There doesn't seem to be any comradery between those two.

Good job, photo. Don't hold your breath waiting on the bashers to convert.

3fan...One of the few things TNT caught was Kenseth not being able to make the move to the outside to follow Carl. Kyle screwed him up with that slow, slow restart. Sometimes teammates can't line up with each other. I saw a few times during the race that the HMS guys were side by side instead of lined up.

And that is how the big one gets started sometimes.

Team mates lined up side by side. I noticed that too and wondered about that earlier in the race.

Then you had David Ragan bump drafting every one and getting them loose.

What about JJ subbing for Stewart. He was impressive until he got involved in the last melee.

Interesting that these supertrack restrictor races boil down to who helps who... It obviously makes one heck of a difference, but once a car got out in front it was all the driver could do to stay there. There wasn't another JGR car in sight, let alone another Toyota. How come Kyle Busch won without help? Could it be that he's one hell o####ood driver?

In another vein... I see that NASCAR is still at the mercy of the so called "racing fans" throwing things on the track... What are they going to do, wait until something horrific happens (like the black woman bringing what appears to be a very winable lawsuit against them for sexual and racial harassment)???? Someone is going to get hurt or worse if they can't stop this practice by fans upset that their driver lost... I sure don't want to see someone get hurt.

WAKE UP NASCAR AND GET THOSE JERKS OUT OF THE STANDS!

Thanks photogr...

I think the possibility of an HMS win tonight was great had they had better team effort. But I will take the #18 win anyday. :)

Dwindy;
I saw a couple cans thrown at Kyle but they missed. I understand NASCAR is supposed to be policing that and try to catch the fans that throw items over the fence but I think it boils down to who reports it in the stands.

That type of behaviour is certainly uncalled for. Perhaps the other fans seeing this activity should gang up and bash the offender over the head with their coolers. That should stop it eventually if NASCAR can't get a handle on it.

It certainly looked that way most of the race until Johnson and Jr. got shuffled back then Gordon was on his own. He didn't do himself any favors by trying to block Edwards. If that didn't happen, he would have been hung out to dry any way by the other drivers taking a different line.

I would think it would be of the upmost importance to stay together with your team mates rather than split up and try a move that would cost you positions. Johnson had handling issues. Dale jr. was only thinking of himself when he got shuffled back rather than stay with Gordon.

Now like that comment is any better than the fans throwing stuff on the track!!!

Kyle Busch would not be hated if he hadn't taken out Dale Jr at Richmond. Once a driver takes out Junior, he (or maybe she) is hated forever.

OK, Big Dfan, that comment doesn't pose the risk of injuring anyone, and photo was just trying to portray a point, one you obviously didn't get. If the fans in the stands could stop this by stopping the person next to them from throwing stuff on the track.

But I suppose you're a person who thinks that it's perfectly fine to throw stuff on the track. I mean, so what if my can doesn't make it all the way to the track and hits someone in the head and puts them in the hospital? Not my fault, it's Busch's for winning. That jerk.

Nice recap Photo! Not only did Kyle have to drop back, he made an amazing save when his dopey teammate hooked him. Who else can drive 200 mph from the banked track to the apron, then drive with a squirrelly steering wheel?? Rowdy is the real deal.

I *loved* the fact that the four up front weren't fans of each other, you had Kurt not pushing Kyle and Kenseth not pushing Edwards...LOVE IT!

A literal figure of speech. At most races, fans are not allowed to carry in coolers any more other than the soft packs.

So you are saying no one should take out Jr. and stay in racing? That is not the sharpest statement to make lil grasshopper. It was just racing. Happens all the time when drivers are in the heat of competition.

Yep. It was the 50 HP gain that Toyota has. The last time I checked, NASCAR does run a HP rating on the winners cars as well as a total tear down of the engine.

Now they might not check the tubing in the roll cages to see if there is any hidden pressurized containments for Nitros Oxide leading to the intake manifold yet. That can be easily covered up as it is the team crew that does the tear down and removing the tubing is an easy cover up by the crew.

I noticed that too. One thing that preplexed me was during the last few laps Jr. get shuffled back to 10th place when he tried to pass Gordon for the lead. Certainly broke up the possibility for HMS to get a win. Sounded like he left Gordon hung out to dry trying to hold off Kyle, Edwards, and Kenseth.

I noticed that on several instances Kenseth and Harvick were drafting partners. They seemed to have worked well together. Could this be a harbinger of things to come? (Kenseth in the #33 General Mills Chevrolet) Hmmmmm, just a thought....

Photogr, good post and recap of the race.

I must say though that it makes the sport interesting when Junior nation is on attack. Kyle Busch had the guts to do it.

Great post, My channel shut off after the victory interveiwe so I did not know about the them getting the order wrong again and again. This week we learned NASCAR uses the scoring loops but not on the last lap. Friday night they should have used the video to clear up the Carl and Clint order.

I will be doing frame by frame onthat last lap. Maybe we all can see who finished where on that.

The head announcer here said , wow those Dale Jr fans hate Kyle Busch throwing things on the track at him. He knows it was Dale Jr fans only because he has a mouse in his pocket telling him so ?
Cheers

Now they said they look at camara shots for the finish. They do that instead of the loops to call the finishing order. I am glad I dont have to figure it out..Lol..
Photo also Kyle won. Jeff, my fav. driver, made a dumb move that cost him a shot at a top 5. Glad to see he is going for the win.

I would guess it was Jr. Nation fans throwing beer cans on the track last night? It is ok to be a loyal fan to just one driver but not at the expense of other drivers that have the miss fortune of running into their driver either accidentally or with intent.

It is not wise to judge a drivers actions untill you have driven in their shoes under the same conditions. Then you will know the truth of why things happen on the track.

I am a loyal fan of most of the Cup drivers and can get quite angry when one screws up but I do know what the conditions can be on the track.

it is my suggestion to you to get involved in a racing form of some type and participate in a way to understand why things go bump on the track and look different to the fans in the stands or TV.

Then you will be much wiser and have the inside scoop.

I call it a cautious win. Not wise to let a bunch of crazed and pumped up drivers continue at full speed with a bunch of wrecked cars on the track.
The Marathon man comes to mind.

Yep. it was a bit confusing for awhile. They even had Mark martin finising 2nd and 3rd continuously according to the Fox scores.

I Finally had to go to NASCAR.com to see what the finishing order was and that was 2 hrs after the race ended.

Yep it was the Dale Jr. fans. The cans recovered were Amp drink cans according to security. From what I hear most were rounded up and got their butts whipped with Interstate battery cables.

Yep on Gordon. He might have had the car to win this race if he had held his line rather than block Carl.
