What Bears offseason plans are at this point+Bears Lions game photo
Oct 27, 2007 | 7:57PM | report this

Well the Bears season hasn't been all too joyful. A still inconsistent Rex Grossman, a non existant running game, injuries, and dropped catches. So say the season ends right here, what would the Bears offseason look like?

QB: Griese isn't the long term answer. First player who comes into a Bears fan mind, Donovan McNabb. If the Eagles miss the playoffs, they may be consider giving the job to rookie Kolb and trade McNabb to his hometown. Other option would be to go into the draft and take a quarterback. First rounders that come into mind: Matt Ryan, Colt Brennan, Brian Brohm, Andre Woodson. A long shot is going to be free agent Tony Romo who went to college in Illinois.

RB/FB: Benson has better prove something now or Chicago will be looking for a new "franchise" running back. This should be either addressed in trade or free agency. Top options would be Michael Turner or Thomas Jones' brother, Julius Jones. As for fullback, it is not needed as Ron Turner plans on playing alot of 2 TE formations.

WR: With Berrian signing with Rosenhaus, the agent of Lance Briggs, it isn't a sure thing he will resign with Chicago. Other than Berrian, the rest of the receiving group is mediocre. The free agency class is weak, so drafting or developping one of their young receivers is most likely the best option. More time for Mark Bradley, who had a solid rookie season before a season ending injury, could be one of the young guys that will turn into a reliable receiver. Bradley caught 18 passes for 230 yards in 7 games his rookie season and 14 catches for 282 yards and 3 touchdowns the following season, year 2006.

TE: There is no need here as their 2 TE's Desmond Clark and rookie Greg Olsen is one of the top tight end combos in the NFL.

OL: The offensive line is aging and needs some upgrades. The best option would be to go into the draft and take some with the early picks. They could also go into free agency, but they would need in at the right price.

How would I want the offense to look?

Berrian             D.Clark (Rookie)
 Beekman Kreutz  Garza  Tait
  Olsen
  Bradley

                             McNabb

J.Jones(or Turner) sharing the load with Benson

Slot Receiver: Rashied Davis
                     Fullback: Jason Mckie

DE: Nothing should be done as the 3rd string defensive end would be a starter on pretty much every NFL team.

DT: Resign Tommie Harris is about all what can be done. With Dusty Dvoracek and Darwin Walker missing a couple games to injury, you can't expect too much from a 4th stringer.

MLB: Brian Urlacher. It can't improve.

ILB: Hunter Hillenmeyer isn't doing anything outstanding, but he isn't doing anything wrong. Solid option.

WLB: Will Lance Briggs be back or not? Would he truly consider coming back? If he won't, is Jamar Williams the answer? If not, Jonathan Vilma comes into my mind. He has said he wanted out of New York, as the 3-4 scheme is not his thing, and performance wise, he hasn't played well. In the 4-3 scheme, Vilma was a pro bowler and a defensive rookie. Worth the risk? I think so, even though MLB is his natural position.

CB: TIllman and Vasher have been locked up long term, and with Ricky Manning Jr. in the nickel, nothing needs to be done.

FS: Mike Brown is a beast, but he can't avoid injuries. What do the Bears do? I would keep him as the starter, but draft or sign a quality backup in case he goes out yet again. Gibril Wilson?

SS: Archuleta has been nothing as advertised, which leaves a hole in the Bears defense. I would keep him, and if he doesn't perform well enough next season, move Mike Brown to SS and Daniel Manning to FS, and if Brown gets hurt again, Gibril Wilson as SS.

How would I want the defense to look?

                    Dvoracek

                              Ogunleye    Harris                         Anderson

                           Hillenmeyer
Urlacher                 Briggs(if not Vilma or Jamar Williams)

Tillman

                  Vasher

                                                  Brown

                             Archuleta

(apology the way i wanted the blog to look didn't turn out as expected. I wanted it to look like an offensive and defensive formation. You will now be able to tell the positions with color coding)

Petition to make Mike Brown DB coach
Sep 15, 2007 | 9:36PM | report this

Mike Brown suffered yet another season ending injury, and he might end his career here. If it is over, this is the petition to make him the DB coach of the Chicago Bears.

Why the Chicago Bears deserved to attend the Superbowl!
Aug 04, 2007 | 10:15AM | report this

I've heard enough of this, " The Chicago Bears suck! They shouldn't have been in the Superbowl!!!" Excuses of the schedule was too easy, the quarterback sucks, the defense brought them there are dumb. What have we done to not deserve the Superbowl berth. Schedule too easy? We embarrassed the Seahawks, and Giants on NBC Night Football. Oh yes, the Seahawks and Giants suck, but then why were they considered the class of the NFC when the Bears played them? Seahawks were supposedly the undisputed best team in the NFC, but the Bears beat them. Then the Giants, they were about 6-1, but we still beat them on the road.   So who is the class of the NFC? Well I'm sure it's the Saints after losing 39-14. Remember the Bears did most of this after both Tommie Harris, and Mike Brown went down with season ending injuries, Harris a key to the pass rush, and Mike Brown a huge key to the run defense.

Now the excuse of  the quarterback , Rex Grossman, being the worse you've ever seen. Wow really, he sucks that much, 1st complete season and had early MVP talk. I'll admit he was terrible come end to season, but the Quarterback position isn't the only one in football, but the most popular.  Chicago has never had a great Quarterback and the offense was always built with the running game. Due to the fact that that position is the most popular, not having a good QB means your team sucks. Every other position is just as important, offensive line protects your QB, running game causes less turnover, WR catch the passes, FB blocks for the RB and so on and so on.  Jerry Angelo focused on those other positions on offense that are equally as important.

The next excuse will be that their defense brought them to the Superbowl and did all their scoring. No duh, that's where most of the money was invested in. The Saints and Colts built their success on offense, no what's the difference

For those who still think that another NFC team deserved to have the privilege of a Superbowl let's look at why that team doesn't.

Arizona Cardinals: Um, no!

Atlanta Falcons: Dog fighting doesn't send you in the playoffs.

Carolina Panthers: No playoffs, reason for it.

Dallas Cowboys: You lost to the Seahawks, and you fumbled a field goal. how about practicing those things in practice? The offense isn't that incredible, the Bears defense will do the job, and their defense isn't anything special either, remember Bears still averaged 33ppg in the NFC playoffs.

Detroit Kitties: Name says enough.

Green Bay Packers: Make the playoffs before smack talking, maybe you should stick with meat packing.

Minnesota Vikings: Your quarterback isn't any better than Chicago's and well, we swept you guys.

New Orleans Saints: 39-14 isn't that enough? Without Tommie Harris and Mike Brown makes it even sadder.

New York Giants: Offense isn't any better, and defensive isn't either.

Philadelphia Eagles: You got eliminated by the team that got humiliated in the NFC championship game.

San Francisco 49ers: Make the postseason.

Seattle Seahawks: Beat you in the regualr season, and Robbie Gould.

Saint Louis Rams: Devin Hester 2TD.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: HAHAHAHA

Washington Redskins: Sure...

Yeah this team is better! Wanna know why? READ!!!
Jul 25, 2007 | 3:53PM | report this

Alright you don't think this team can go get themselves this?

What team am I talking about? A really good one! A team that won their division the past 2 seasons. A team that made it to the Superbowl last season! Yes my beloved Chicago Bears. The team that sold all the home game tickets in less than an hour. The team everybody claims to have gotten worse. Really? Let's break it down by position.

Quarterback: BOOOOO!! BOOOOO!!! Yeah that guy. The dude who got booed by the fans of his team. The dude who was criticized all year long. Lovie believed in him," Rex is our quarterback." Last season was his so called, " rookie season." All of his other seasons were ended by injuries. So with one year under his belt we should see some improvement. He is now with a new quarterback coach, and his old quarterback coach, Wade Wilson, was considered not to be tough enough on Rex, and letting him get away with mistakes in practice. We have all witnessed Rex's abilities and was a possible MVP candidate before that Arizona game. That one bad game, that bad 1st pass deep ball to Bernard Berrian was the beginning  of  his  terrible year.  We should expect a "Sexy Rexy" to show up with all the new additions and a year under his belt.

Running back/Fullback: Cedric Benson... Sometimes was a beast, sometimes was a bust. Though at the end of the season, he was putting up consistent numbers, and proved to be the number 4 overall pick. Well no Thomas Jones! Well we didn't get stronger at this position, but with Adrian Peterson, our 3rd string running back, who could be starting for some other teams, shows how much depth we have in the running game. Garrett Wolfe is a damn good player, he just needs to prove it in the NFL. Although we haven't gotten stronger at this position, it is still one of the best in the league. Now at the Fullback position, Mckie was a good option, but Ayanbadejo could be a slight improvement.

Wide Receivers/Tight Ends: Desmond Clark was pretty good at the TE position, but Jerry Angelo felt that Greg Olsen was a better fit. We might now see a 2 TE formation, meaning 2 good options for a play. Bernard Berrian, Rashied Davis, and often injured Mark Bradley, are all healthy and have improved. This could be Bradley's first full season, and he has shown amazing ability in his 2 short seasons. With improvement, and the addition of a nice young TE, this area has been improved nicely.

Offensive Line: We are getting older at this position, but have added Josh Beekman. It is a very solid offensive line. It could have 1 more solid season before needing to reload. It appears to remain the same with either slight improvement, or slightly worse.

Defensive Line: Tank, Tank, Tank... Well Tommie Harris was out for the end of the season, and Dusty Dvoracek got a whole season on the injured reserve. Now we lost Ian Scott, Boone, etc... but we have a young defensive tackles, and Adams to be the veteran in the rotation. Mark Anderson was a steal, and was among the top in sacks even though being a backup. With more playing time, and improvement, we will have a nice rotation with Ogunleye, A.Brown, Bazuin, and Anderson. Looks like some improvement.

Linebackers: Well we might have gotten better since no ones stats have decreased with age. Lance Briggs will be back so all is well and hip hip hooray. Top 3 or maybe the best linebacker group in the league.

Secondary: Daniel Manning has a season under his belt, Vasher and Tillman don't need to worry about their contracts, Ricky Manning Jr. doesn't need to bother with the law, and most importantly SAFETIES. Mike Brown, the key to the run defense, is healed, and Adam Archuleta, remember that stud? Yeah he's back to his old business and this is a much better secondary.

Special Teams: Devin Hester, Robbie Gould. Nuff said.

Briggs you selfish, ignorant rat
Mar 12, 2007 | 6:32PM | report this

Briggs, you only care about yourself. Look up in the sky and think for a minute, that 7.2 million dollars is alot of money, and half of the world doesn't earn that amount. Just think that your having fun on the football field like a little kid. Other adults work hard and don't get paid a forth of what you receive. You just play for the money. I suggest the Bears constantly franchise Briggs till he retires to #### him off. For each missed game charge him 7.2 million dollars so that he's bankrupt. Your never going to be at Urlachers level. Guess you'll be leaving Chicago with this picture in everybodys mind,
