Top 10 teams I love to hate on.
Jul 09, 2008 | 1:12PM | report this

Being a Boston sports fan there isn't all that much to complain about these days. However, I'm going to do my best to do so anyways. Hopefully in doing so I can insult and anger every blogger on this website. So without any further ado here is my list.

10. The Tampa Bay Rays

Now before this year I had nothing against the Rays, they were the loveable losers who got in a couple of fights per year with the Sox, but now they are in first place. Now this doesn't bother me that much, but all the writers are acting like they called it. The problem is they have been picking first in the draft virtually for 10 years now. So everyone knew eventually the talent would have to prevail. It's okay though in 3 years these young stars like Longoria will have new $100,000,000 contracts with the Soxs and Yanks and all will be right with the world.

9. The Portland Trail Blazers

A surprise pick to some, but I am basically jealous because of the absurd luck that has hit this team. They win the NBA draft lottery against incredible odds to secure the best center prospect this decade, and Darius Miles experiences a career ending injury, ridding them of his rediculous contract. Also, Kevin Pritchard is milking the former Celtics Ainge, Mchale, and Bird in trades virtually every year. Lets review Bassy Telfair for 7th pick=Randy Foye, Randy Foye+ Cash+ Brandon Roy, Kareem Rush+ Jarrett Jack=Jerryd Bayless. That is insanity I think the NBA should institute a new rule banning teams from making more than one trade per year with former Celtics. Grizzly fans I would watch yourselves Pritchard might be able to milk Chris Wallace with a Mayo and #### for Diogu and Frye trade.

A lottery pick gone and all I got was this lousy Through the Fire DVD.

8. San Diego Chargers

Now the Chargers used to be my second favorite team up until a few years ago. They are the next dynasty in the NFL and are likely to throw the Pats from their perch atop the AFC. The real reason for all the animosity is Ladanian Tomlinson whose jersey I own, but haven't worn for a number of years. Two years ago he cried and claimed disrespect because the Pats celebrated their victory by mocking Sean Merriman, BIG DEAL!! but LT made an issue of it, and was a sore loser a la Bill Belicheck. What any real player would have done is waited until the next year and get revenge then, but Tomlinson didn't and instead sulked on the sideline saying his knee hurt while teamate Phillip Rivers played his heart out. I can't see myself respecting a team with Tomlinson on it, and  that is why they rank at number 8.

7. Montreal Canadiens

Being 100% French Canadien with relatives in Quebec and New Brunswick this seems somewhat sacreligious, but let me tell you nothing is as satisfying as making fun of fans who are so passionate and drink so heavily after the Canadiens are eliminated. While I am just a part time hockey fan, I would have given anything to see the Bruins eliminate the Habs.

6.  New York Giants

Now this doesn't entirely stem from me being bitter about the Pats loss. No it is more that the fans their are so fickle. Before the Superbowl the fans were calling for Eli and Coughlin's jobs, but now 1 victory later they are ready to enshrine them into the hall of fame. I'm just wondering how many games it will take for them to turn on the Giants again. My prediction is by Week 2.

5. USC Trojans

Now my BC Eagles never face them, and likely won't for quite some time, but here is my problem, Why do they need 6 Five-Star recruits at every position? The last time i checked only one player starts at each position, so why do recruits risk probable future NFL careers by going to a school where their is a good chance that they will never see the field? Also, Pete Carrol was at the helm of the Pats during their decline from Superbowl contender to an average team. Finally, what kind of name is the Trojans? Who would name their team after a ancient city of which nobody is certain even existed, whose people got fooled by a gigantic wooden horse? I'm just saying.

4. New York Jets

Is it the fact that they are the Pats longtime rivals? Nope. Or how bout the fact that Mangina is a snitch? Not that either. It's that stupid J-E-T-S JETS! JETS! JETS! chant. We get it Jets fans you can spell simple words, we are proud of you.

Fireman Ed can spell and he is excited.

3. Los Angeles Lakers

Since I was born after the Celtics Lakers heyday I am new to this rivalry, but after the finals I can proudly say I know why it exists. Lakers fans are idiots it is as simple as that. The fact is on these blogs as most of you can attest to, Lakers fans say so many rediculous things that I can't even tell if its a true LA fan or somebody just parodying them. Over the last week I have seen Lakers fans predicting a threepeat before they have even won one, another lakers fan convinced that the Lakers would have won the NBA finals if not for the Refs, and finally somebody saying KOBE!!! is underated despite being widely considered the best player in the game. Hopefully the Trail Blazers and Celtics can put them in their place over the next 5 years or so, because I can't imagine listening to them after they win an NBA championship. You know what scratch the Blazers off the list the world needs them.

2. New York Yankees

This is an obvious choice being that I'm the type of fan that I am. Besides for their egomanical owners they can sucessfully manipulate the MLB to get whatever they want. When The Sox try to trade for A-Rod MLB blocks it, but the Yankees offer a similar package and they allow it. They spend 60 mil per year more than any other team. I know the Sox are the same way, but to manipulate a quote by Lewis Black "The Yankees are such ####s that they make the Red Sox look like ####s in comparison." (Lewis Black, The White Album)

Sorry for the obscure Monica Lewinsy reference but it had to be done.

1. Indianapolis Colts

Finally, the mecca of them all the Colts. Now besides the fact that the Pats have owned the Colts in the TB vs. PM era, I take so much joy in watching the Colts lose. Tony Dungy may be a good guy and a good christian, but the media makes him out to look like Jesus re-incarnated, and since apparently Pats-Colts matchups have turned into good vs evil it is always fun to root for the bad guys. Most of all though is Peyton Manning. While he is a good guy, and his commercials are funny, the #2 reason why I watch football is to see those rare wonderful Manning face sightings.

Now this is why I watch football

O yeah at least Randy didn't moon a female athletic trainer like Peyon Manning. (Why did I bring that up? Because I'm Petty)

Honorable Mention

The Toronto Blue Jays

Every year their fans say this is they year, and every year they are the proverbial puching bag.

So that's my list. I welcome your comments on the teams you love to hate on.

Who won the last playoff meeting between the Colts and Pats?

Peyton Manning is a GAZILLION times better than Tom Brady. If Tom Brady is drafted by ANYONE else he never gets past 2nd on the depth chart.

If you haven't noticed, my absolute favorite team to hate on is the Patriots. You talk of fickle fans? You may be too young to remember, but nobody used to go to Pats games, they were the doormat of the AFC East along with (ironically) the Colts. And just a few years back you Bostonians were wanting to be rid of the likes of Manny Ramirez and Paul Pierce. Enough of the Hypocrisy.

Peyton Manning's career playoff record 7-7
Tom Brady's 14-3 enough said.

I don't want this to turn into a Brady Manning who is overated board. I think they are the 2 best now bar none.

As far as NE fans are concerned of course they are fickle and fair weather fans exist like they do in every other fan base. Manny and Paul Pierce had each been here for an extended period of time and each had worn out their welcome by doing stupid things. No doubt Boston fans are fickle we have radio stations dedicated to this like WEEI. Hatred towards Boston is well documented I welcome it.

Not all Lakers fans are that bad, but you're entitled to your opinion and use some good examples of why you feel that way.

I personally can't stand any Boston teams, so were even.

As a L.A. native, my top 10 teams to hate are as follows:

1. Boston Celtics (Lakers fan)
2. Boston Red Sox (Yankees fan)
3. Oakland Raiders (I hated them when they were in L.A. too, you'd have to live here to understand)
4. San Fransisco Giants (Dodgers fan)
5. Denver Broncos (John NOway & orange unis)
6. Notre Dame (USC fan)
7. Dallas Mavericks (Couldn't stand Mark Aguirre and now can't tolerate Mark Cuban)
8. New York Knicks (because of that little troll Spike Lee)
9. St. Louis Rams (hated them in L.A. too, I used to call them the LAmbs)
10. Atlanta Braves (because of Jane Fonda and that STUPID tomahawk chop)

*Dis-honorable mention: Clippers (simply for being sooooooo inept for sooooooooo long)

BUCK FOSTON.

My hatred for the Blazers is uncommon. Their GM Pritchard fleeced all 3 former celtics to get his Blazers to where they are. I did resind them from my list later when I concluded that the world will need them to stop the Lakers.

thats cool patsrock, you know we love to hate on you too buddy.i agree not needing to get into a manning, brady argument, pretty two sided, all kinds of stats, and records coming from both sides. im just damn happy, i dont have to listen to the "choking" stuff anymore. we finally beat you, in dramtatic fashion, and got our ring. i know you guys got 3, but eli winnig was second best to me. and you have to admit, we dont roll over and get our #### kicked by you guys anymore, we've actually won last 3 of 4, two in N.E. and peyton has quit jumping around and crying like a #### when he makes a bone headed play, he just walks to the sidelines now, still has that silly look. many more years of great football left between colts and pats, we'll see ya soon.

Sixfigure fan, If my list was extended to 20 than the Steelers would have made it. However, I thought anything over 4 NFL teams out of 10 would be overkill. Since the Steelers no longer have Joey Porter most of their players are actually quite likeable. Plus, when Spygate had reached its peak the Rooneys helped calm the storm by not jumping on the hate bandwagon.

SRMgenious,

I went to Pats games all the time before brady and the superbowl era; and they were packed. I can see what you mean if you were talking about Celtics; but Pats love has been through New England since the days of bledsoe..

But every team has bad spots then gets better and has more fans... it's called sports.

And saying peyton is better than tom is rediculous. Who went 18-1? Who set mad records for passing and touchdowns? who has won 3 superbowls since his coming off the bench?

Teams like the broncos and browns would Kill for tom brady to even show up to training camp

I know your hatin and i do it too; but you're just speakin obserdities

LOL, you know the Phins went 17-0 with mostly a backup QB? Tom Brady had Randy Moss, the best O-Line in the game, and the best coached defense probably because they know every play the opposition is going to do (cheaters), all he has to do is throw the damn ball up. He has average talent at best, and you homers can throw out whatever stats you want. Terry Bradshaw won 4 super bowls, is he better than John Elway, Brett Favre or Dan Marino? McMahon Qbed the Bears to an 18-1 record, is HE one of the best QBs ever? It is not absurdities I speak, it's the truth. Brady was almost Mr. Irrelevant in the draft, that was for a reason.

Alright SRMGenious I'll bite,

Every opinion on Tom Brady being average is clearly just a load of BS. The thing that makes Tom Brady great is the feeling of being a fan and knowing that your team is going to score when it needs to. Tom Brady can match any quarterback on any day with equal talent surrounding him. He threw 578 passes with only 8 interceptions last year!! Even before Moss and Welker this year the argument was being made that he was the best in the game. The fact is he is 31 years old with 7 seasons of starting experience, and has led his team to 4 Superbowl appearences. A 57% superbowl appearance rate is pretty damn impressive. As far as talent goes, sure he may not have the most talent ever, but if we go by your method I guess Vince Young and Jamarcus Russell are the greatest ever. Your draft ranking doesn't have anything to do with your talent. I guess Terrell Davis, John Stallworth, Steve Largent, Jpe Montana, and others were all talentless hacks. The fact is that Peyton can probably throw the ball 5 yards further, but his resume is far exceeded by Tom Brady.

Being a like minded Pats' fan I'm not going to hate on a team. 'cause karma can be a bit#ch ! As we found out to our cost last year. I tend to keep the opinions on the down low and then opine about it afterwards by substantiating the argument right off the bat.

The one thing I will brag about though is the fact that Brady has nailed some of the hottests chicks around . And when comparisons are being made over Simpson and Bundchen . It's a fait-accomplis ! Brady has Romo beat hands down on that particular score.

romo.simpson"/

Is he really getting more b*ang for his bu*ck from Simpson ?

brady.bundchen

Bridget Moynaghan ......Tom's nailed it, Gisele Bundchen ........Tom's nailed it many times over !
And more likely than not'll continue to do so until either his sperm counts gets low or he finds someone else that he'd like to tag n' bag.

well if you REALLY wanna get down to it, Terrell Davis was vastly overrated as he too had one of the best run blocking offensive lines as proven by the future success of truly talentless running backs who have virtually disappeared at this point. Joe Montana was a product of a system, much like Tom Brady. I do not take away from their intelligence, if you look at my top athlete rankings I rated Brady first in that category. Montana was the same, the west coast offense Walsh put in place was perfect for a guy who had multiple surgeries on his throwing elbow. All those QBs you mention are idiots, they lack intelligence as far as football is concerned. Montana probably could not throw the ball 55 yards in his heyday, but he had Jerry Rice, John Taylor, Roger Craig, and a ridiculous O-Line and Defense, to go along with the perfect system for him. Football is a team game, and nobody has ever commanded his team the way Peyton Manning does, and by command I dont mean yell and head butt or do insignificant stuff like that, I mean call plays, move players around, make them practice their routes hours before the game--Manning would have won ANYWHERE. They gave him a defense, and he won a title, if Manning was on the Pats they'd have at least reached the AFC Championship every year, and have won 4 or more Super Bowls, guaranteed.

If Tom Brady was on a small market team, and not the 2nd biggest market in the NFL, he would not have 3 rings. Team defense was what propelled you to 3 Super Bowls, not your offense. Its why Belicheat was taping so many offensive coordinators signals.

Peyton Manning plays in one of the 3 smallest markets..w/Buffalo and Green Bay, and thusly has been devoid o####ood defense for a long time...it wasnt up till the last 3 years the Colts have had a good reputable Defense like the Pats, which is why we have a better record agaisnt ya'll over those last 3.

I knew the Colts would be your number one when I saw the title to this blog and your avatar name.

Always lookin forward to the next time these two teams square off!

Peyton Manning is far overrated as a game manager. Just because he does his presnap routine and such doesn't mean he makes all the calls for the offense. Tom Brady also doesn't make the same kind of stupid mistakes which Peyton seems to make constantly on the big stage. Also, the reason Peyton Manning finally got a defense is because the Colts finally invested some money on that side of the ball which resulted in a slight dip in the offense. During his superbowl run his numbers were, dare I say similar to Tom Brady's.

DezzNutz,
Your small market-big market comparison doesn't make any sense as there is a salary cap. As far as the Colts winning 2 out of the last 3, one was a home playoff game against a Patriots team ravaged by the flu, and had it not been for some stupid plays by Reche Cauldwell and the flu a 4th championship banner would be flying in Foxboro. I'm not even going to touch the spygate accusations, the argument is so ludicrous I don't need to waste my time on it.

I'll preface this by saying I am foremost a USC Trojan fan, have been for 40+ years. And thank you, for jealousy is the sincerest form of flattery.

Adressing part of your question on 5 star recuits "so why do recruits risk probable future NFL careers by going to a school where their is a good chance that they will never see the field?" Last I remember your Patriots had one of those guys who never saw the field as their backup QB, and when he does get some field time he looks pretty good. I guess the answer is that USC is a school where even the reserves get a serious look by NFL scouts. Besides, who needs a team full of Emanuel Moody's who are afraid of the competition? If you can't win the starting position on a college team, even the Trojans, how the heck you gonna cut it in the NFL?

patsrock07

UltTroyDos,

I see your point, if you evxel with the Trojans it's a lock for you to be a top pick. It's just that a lot of college guys who go their are to confident in their ablilities. Why would Mitch Mustain go to USC to fight for a spot when he could go to a school like BC, gain the staring spot on day 1, and probably gain enough national exposure to be a early round pick.

You are really trying to push buttons aren't you? Been a Laker fan almost as long as I have a USC fan. Laker fans idiots? Maybe some, but might I remind that the term "fan" is derived from "fanatic", so in that light all fans have a little "####" in them or they aren't truly "fans".

BTW, you think your Pats will ever win another super bowl now that their cheating ways are exposed? Do their Super Bowls come under the same scrutiny as Barry Bonds home run record, or Roger Clemens strikeouts? To me they do, as with the others they might have won or hit home runs or thrown strikeouts w/o cheating, but we'll never know, will we. A tarnished dynasty!

Maybe cuz it gets cold in Boston? I dunno, but if he makes it at USC he's a lock, and even if Sanchez continues as starter Mustain will still have a year to start himself.

A better question: why not UCLA. I know the timing isn't right but in retrospect what could Norm Chow make out of a kid like Mustain, and as it turns out he'd prolly be starting this year. The thought of having to face a Norm Chow taught Mustain every year scares even me. I'm glad he fled to USC and not the powder blue creampuffs!

UltTroyDos,

I seem to recall winning every game until the superbowl after we were "exposed". Quickly we forget that only DEFENSIVE calls can be recorded; which only helps so much. They are often changed (sometimes weekly) and the information you could obtain from videos would be only about defense and only relevant that year....

If we won using only the knowledge of defensive calls that wouldent work the next game or the current one; then we truly are amazing....

The whole point of this post was to #### people off, and it looks like things are going well.

I hate to keep talking about spygate I wrote a long post earlier explaining why it was overblown if you care to read it. The fact was the Pats broke the rules and what they did was unethical, but the advantage was so incredibly minimal it is shocking how big of a deal it became. The fact is any coach can watch a D-Coordinator, and take notes from a sideline level. So what difference does it make if there is a videocamera involved? The fact is the issue was pushed by fans looking for revenge, and the media fed them with stories. Why BB did it I don't know, but as we figured out this year is that the Pats don't need a camera to win.

Typical Pats fan. Making excuses for there losses to anyone especially the Colts. Man you New Englanders are SO elitist. Even when you get beat you blame it on someone else. According to fans like you, you are the best team ever...anyone that beats you got lucky....

...well even if people are gettin lucky, they arent getting caught cheating!

I'll make you address it then.

Belicheck str8 lies to Goodell, saying he only taped divisional opponents, not only was that a bold faced lie, he said he only taped offensive signals, when in fact, and the tapes prove it, they taped both offensive and defensive calls, and they taped more than just divisional foes,(Browns) but they taped play-off games!!! (Steelers)

If you cant look at those tapes, seeing the camera slide over to the offensive singal caller, and then slide up to the scoreboard to log the time the call was made, and say he didnt cheat, you my friend are lieing to yourself.

Ugh, Peyton doesnt make most of those calls? Ok man, whatever. They only send him out a play with 2 or 3 (or more) options for him to choose depending on what he reads from the defense...Please, know what your talking about.

O and by the way UltTroyDos, nobody cares if you think the Superbowls are tarnished, I know that they were real victories. Little advantages like that are used all the time. If it comes out 5 years later that David Tyree had stick-um on his gloves, I wouldn't think that tarnishes the Giant's superbowl would you?

DezzNutz,

As far as Peyton is concerned he does what every established QB does in the NFL, just because he makes an act out of it doesn't make him anything unique as a play caller. Tom Brady does the same thing. As far as the 2007 AFC Championship game is concerned the Colts won, and I'm over it but the fact is they probably wouldn't have won if 1/2 the Pats didn't have the flu. Hmmm a professional football team seems fatigued in the 4th quarter a little mysterious.

As far as spygate is concerned any informed football mind knows it was an overreaction. Any non-writer/ former player like Joe Theisman knew the coverage was rediculous. Plus, if the tapes did it all why did the Pats beat the Colts in Indy last year? So I think it's you who has no idea what your talking about.

PatsRock, no I ain't buying in your NYG opinions for two reasons. YOU DO still harbor resentment for that little get-together we had in a sleepy Arizona desert. This would have been the 'piece de resistance' to justify the talk of a Pats dynasty, but on Feb. 3rd, the Pats died, nasty.

Secondly, as us Giants fans may have a love /hate relationship with players/coaches, down to the core we STILL love our team. Even when we had mediocrity in the years after our 2nd SB win during the early 90's. Our team STUNK. The New York media is especially notorious for fomenting the bitterness amongst the fandom.

Yes, I despised HC's Ray Handley and Dan Reeves and most of us did not like the way our team played. I'm sure you can feel what I mean when your Pats had their many horrible seasons prior to your so-called 'dynasty' fortunes. Everyones loves a winner. But down to the core, us NY fans live and die and bleed Giants blue. Really.

BTW I still do respect you as have shown to be a very intelligent, decent fella as we have dialog'd in the past.

YOU CANT TAPE OFFENSIVE SIGNALS> THERE IS NO SUCH THING!!!!

If you watch or play football; you understand how this works.. The plays are called in from a headset to the QB. No movements are made except the mouth. Most allways, coaches cover their mouths with the play sheet so noone can read their lips. YOU CANT VIDEOTAPE THAT

DONT #### POST IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOURE TALKING ABOUT

Well dr dane, didn't Tom Brady have vertical when the Giants faced the Pats in the Super Bowl? Wasn't Tom facing vertical quite a bit from Strahan and Tuck? Didn't vertical help to cause the Pats to lose SB XLII?

Oh, wait... what's that...I mispoke? I pulled a 'Hillary'? Oh, oops I'm sorry. I meant 'vertigo'.... My bad. Vertigo is a legit neurological disorder. Peace.

Daveyp and others,

I admit the flu comment I made was pretty weak. I should probably keep my crazy opinions and theories like that to myself.

As far as Pats fans being pathetic you should look at yourself. Fans love to attack those on top, and spygate was the perfect way to do it. The fact is none of you give two #### about the integrity of the game. You just wanted to tarnish their legacy by enbelishing the extent of what happened. Thats far more pathetic than me writing a blog where I say I don't particularly like certain teams. The fact that you are out looking to insult people over their opinions makes you look pretty sad.

who loves football wth an unequivocal passion. During football season between my high school practices and games, BC games, and Patriots games I spend roughly 30 hours per week on football related activities. Thats not quite enough though so I write and comment on basically every NFL blog I can find.
