WIll Kevin Garnett Ever have the Ability to lead or carry a team?
Jun 06, 2008 | 4:10PM | report this

Big players make big plays in big games. Kevin Garnett shrinks and dissappears constantly in the 4th quarter of games and he did it again las night in game 1 of the Finals. As KG went to the line in the first quarter the crowd began chanting "MVP." Why? The guy is an amazing player for the first three quarters. Last night he hit one field goal in the fourth quarter and had a stretch where he missed 10 of 11 from the field. Yes, it is just one game but Kevin Garnett is always invisible in the fourth quarter box score.

The other thing that bothers me about Garnett are all the fadeways and the jumpshots. KG, you are 6' 11. GO INSIDE!!!!!!!! Someone that has that kind of size has no business pretending that they are a guard. Garnett needs to learn to attack the rim and score some points in the paint. Among forwards in the NBA, Garnett ranked 45th in field goal percentage this year. Why? because he shoots to many jumpshots and does not command the paint the way centers and power forwards are supposed to.

KG, you are 6'11 not 5'11 let Ray Allen and Paul Pierce shoot the jumpers.

Unrelated, but Kobe will not choke in the 4th quarter again and the Lakers will win this series.

If KG played on the Suns, then yeah, he better go inside and score.

But in Boston, I don't think he needs to do that as much. His style is perfectly suited for the system.

Paul Pierce is actually a great post player. Ray Allen hovers around the perimeter. And KG takes care of the midrange. And then on defense, Garnett is a beast inside.

So although he doesn't play inside as much on offense, you can count on Garnett to b@ng with the big boys on the defensive end.

His impact has always been huge and that's why the Lakers wanted him.

Lastly, if you think about it Garnett is not even a center or a power forward. His offensive game resembles that of a small forward. He's basically a 6-11 Scottie Pippen.

When did Kobe and Garnett start playing in the NFL? Why is the NFL in your blog as possible categories? Is Kobe thinking of being a sideshow to Terrell Owens as a WR for the Cowboys? Obviously you have some inside information that none of us have any idea about. Can you fill us in on it? Or should you just dismiss the NFL as a category?

sorry, Garnett was 11th in the league in field goal percentage. I don't know where the 45th among forwards thing came from.

just win, baby. on a sidenote, your categories of nfl will have people turn on you on a dime. This should be an NBA category.

Why are you taking shots at KEVIN GARNETT? KG shoots jumpers because he has the talent too! Dirk is a better shooter than Garnett, but off of my head, I cannot think of another. KG goes inside when he needs too, but right now, he has no need. Shooting is an incredible talent for a 6'11 power forward. IT is something you shouldn't be whining at, it is something you should admire. O and by the way, CELTICS IN SIX.

Don't you think Garnett draws more double teams in the 4th quarter and therefore he looks for the open man to take shots? It is customary to go inside in the 4th quarter if you have a lead. The true value of Garnett is that he puts his team in a position to win in the first 3 quarters and uses his skill, smarts, and passing ability to insure the win in the 4th quarter? The Lakers have been disciplined two straight games by Garnett's skill so at this point I wouldn't change a thing if I were Garnett.

I like KG ... but, I have to agree ... he does seem to fade in the 4th. Maybe if Doc gave him a mini break now and then ... try to preserve him.
Also, I hate when any big man shoots fadeaways. You gain more respect and can intimidate if you go to the hoop strong!!!
