Hamlin's Crew Chief doesn't care about the fans!!!
Apr 08, 2008 | 9:33AM | report this

I just got done reading an article saying that the number 11 car’s crew chief thinks that the “Green-White” checkered rule is asinine. Personally I think his comment is asinine. The green-white checkered rule is made for the fans. It gives the fans at least one chance too see the race finish under green rather than a set finish under yellow. I am a fan of the rule, but for some, ‘stupid’; reason Denny Hamlin’s crew Chief is not. I think he is just pist because Hamlin lost a few spots on the green-white checkered on Sunday. A word of advice from me to the Denny’s crew chief; get over it! Whey don’t you realize that the rule is for the fans, not you. Plus I am sure that the rule has been beneficial to you at least once in the past.

I agree with Mr. Ford...it only tears up equipment. His thoughts may have be born from the seeds of anger and turmoil, but are nonetheless accurate in my estimation. A caution on lap 499 should be treated no differently than one on lap 1. A car leading with under ten to go wins 93% of the time when it stays green.

I like the one try rule. But think that they shouldn't open pit road for tires (even at Darlington). If you take fuel it should be line up at the tail end of the line. If you run out of gas, it was just a poor choice of strategy.

But what about the fans. For example: this past weekends race had the leader with a preety good sized lead. The caution came out and erased his lead. I'll tell you that i got a lot more interested becasue since there was a green-white checkered it gave Jimmie Johnson, the non CHEATER, a chance to win. Or even someone back in third fourth or fifth. I just think that i gives us as fans a better chance at a great finish. And too the part about it tearing up equipment, that happenes because of the "crappy" drivers most of the time anyway. And would most likly happen with the gree-white checkered or not.

Just my opinions.

Check out my Blog page and let me know what you think, www.mynascardreams.com. I would just like some feed back. Thanks!

That rule for the fans !!??? Are you kidding ??? If ANYTHING IS 'NOT' for the fans it's the rediculous green-white-checker that NASCAR has come up with.

IF they were smart they would ALWAYS END ON GREEN !! AND ... with enough laps to give the fans that have endured a long day of racing to see a REAL finish to a race. This is so simple that I'm amazed that nobody has suggested it before ...

DO NOT COUNT ANY laps other than GREEN flag laps with less than 25 to go. Period. You could vary a little for the track size, but, never with less than 10. (Talledega laps would take longer than Bristol.)

The last race was a great example. Oil was spilled with less than 10 .. it took the crews 8 to get the dryer out .. get it blown away and THEN decide on a G-W-C race. HOW DUMB WAS THAT !!! The race is decided on HOW LONG the race track crews take to get the track ready.

Bottom line this sport is RACING .. not cruising around the track at 65 while crews find the infanous 'debris' chucked out of a window or attempt soak up the oil someone had spilled.

Don't let NASCAR legislate the winner. Let 'em race to the finish !!

8^)

I agree with all that is said here...NASCAR basically makes the rules up as they go. My feeling is that no yellow flag laps should count, that no one should be allowed to advance their position on the track in the pits, and that no race can end except at full speed unless it is red-flagged. All of the cars on the lead lap should be lined up as they do at the start, no single file BS the lapped cars line up in their order too...no fuggin lucky dogs, and no marginal performers put up front for the big dawgs to have to work around. Pure racing...let the fastest car win...not the best crew..or the one who rolls the dice for better luck. I have quit watching NASCAR because of G-W-C and phantom debris on the track at a critical time. This is dirt track racing without the wrecks to restart it.

One of the rare times I have to agree with Racing insider. Brilliant idea on the green/ white / checker finish.

It was talked about years ago not counting the yellows with so many laos to go. They shot that down when teams talked about the fuel that could not be figured into that. Me I would like that idea...

I like the idea of amking it 3 to 5 laps instead of the regulat 2 green-white checkered laps.

The reason Nascar went to a green, white, checkered was because Jeff Gordon beat Dale Earnhardt Jr. in talladega under caution. Its a good rule as a fan nobody wants to see a race end under a caution flag.
