WELL THE SILLY 2007 SEASON HAS STARTED OFF WITH A BIG ####.
Lets see, We got a 72 year old ex driver trying to qualify for the Daytona 500. Billy Bob from Taladega Nights is expressing interest if he can get Wonder Bread to sponsor him. NASCAR has upped the points for winning a race ( no mention of more money though for winning), and they have done away with the 400 point deal. Never knew about that deal. The race to the chase has been expanded to 12 drivers which includes the Dirty Dozen ( Who is the dirty dozen?). Does this mean that the drivers have to be dirty to be in the chase? So now I guess I am going to be totally confused in keeping up with the points system which is nothing new. Jr. and Teresa are still haggleing over their contracts and Jr. may or may not drive the #3 car. It has been said Teresa may give Jr. a stake in DEI ( a small cubicle in the back of the garage as an office to play video games).
Here is my take for an exciting 2007 season.:
The COT is scrapped to being a pace car ( good way to test at a minimal cost).
Helton is locked up in the big yellow trailer and it is sent to the Artic Tundra.
Drivers are encouraged to let it all hang out while racing except the obvious infractions.
The chase to the championship is started on the first race of the season with 43 drivers competing through out the season.
Restrictor plates are outlawed at super speedways.
More points and prize money for finishing first. No points and prize money for finishing 35th to 43rd. ( this might keep Wally Dalenback and other once in a while drivers out of the races as well as insuring every one is not playing it safe).
Lower prices for the fans at the gates ( this includes parking, motels, refreshments, and souvineers. No more $5.00 charges for a pop or beer).
Seats in turn 4 at Pocono will be free. (Wonder if you all catch this one?)
Good singers for the National Anthem.
More access to the drivers for autographs and are free.
Well that is my idea of having an exciting season in 2007. Any takers???
I believe adding the extra spots will help keep it a little more interesting. I also agree with awarding the winner more points. Don't you ever get tired of a driver winning the cup without winning a race. Consistancy is important, but winning is more fun!
He can drive the #3 Car and please a lot of fans but I don't think he needs to race in the #3 car. He has created his own legendary mark in NASCAR with the #8. I think it would be neat to run the #3 in a nostalga exibition race like they do in the sport car sanctions but not in the Cup races. The memory of Dale Sr. is still too fresh and may be some what in poor taste.
I am some what supersticious and don't have good vibes about this idea.
I couldn't agree with you more. I am no fan of chevy, but I do root for Jr. I was not a huge Sr. fan but believe he was the greatest driver ever to get behind the wheel of a cup series car. I also have my reservations as to the motives behind Jr. driving the #3. He is a great driver who I will continue to support even if he chooses to, in my opinion, dishonor his fathers memory by driving the #3. He is a much better represenative of his fathers memory by just being himself. If Jr. wants to remind the fans of his dad maybe he should concentrate on winning like his dad did.

I forgot that one . As a matter of fact, they need the steel reinforced brush guards ( the kind you see on SUVs) on the front of the cars at Bristol. What is a bumber???
Tarheel:
I am not much of a Chevy fan either but my list of drivers I favor all drive Chevys so go figure on that one. However, the race cars today are the same body almost except for stickers indicating a Ford, Mopar, or Chevy and now a Toyota for 2007 so rooting for a driver is more so in the spotlight than rooting for a brand vehicle
OK sports fans. One of my suggestions about having free seats in turn 4 at Pocono would be a real rally for fans to show up for that offer.. Do you see where I am taking you on this??? Any takers???
Avid auto racing fan and former racing participant for over 40 years. Enjoy all forms of auto racing but found NASCAR sanction to be my favorite followed by GTP and INDY cars. Have raced in SCCA, NHRA, Stock Car, and Modified sanctions in the past.
Getting up in years has regulated me to being a spectator but still find it exciting to go to the races and enjoy the hoopala surrounding the pre and post race festivities. Also find Nature Photography to be a relaxing form of enjoyment and get quite a few opportunities traveling around the country to the races to use my cameras at the tracks and nature preserves.
