Diamondbacks '08 team not the same as Diamondbacks '07 team
Jul 05, 2008 | 7:52PM | report this
I am a huge diamondbacks fan but I have a few issues with the team as of late. First the diamondbacks should keep Salazar and option out Burke and Qualls. Salazar is a better utility player and has a better batting average than Burke. Qualls can't pitch and we have got the short end of the stick with the Valverde trade. Every game I've seen with Qualls pitch he has given up runs and blows leads. Second Randy Johnson should retire he is not same pitcher as he was in 2001. His last seven starts were losses and the money that can be saved with his retirement can be used in keeping Orlando Hudson as a diamondback. Third and final issue Justin Upton should be sent down to the minors for awhile so he can work on being the awesome player he was when he was first brought up. But unfortunately management wont realize this until its too late and the fans won't be there to cheer on the team

Relax guy. We are only at the halfway point. The team's hitting couldn't have possibly kept up the torrid pace of the first month.

Valverde isn't that bad. The good news is Chris Young is slumping and he's still going into the allstar game with 50rbi's and 50 runs scored. The bad news is his avg is about 235.

This team has a lot of good players and plenty of time to get hot. I think the Rockies will rally and get a wild card spot again however, I don't see them dethroning the D-backs as division champs.

The D-backs will be in contention all season but fall short to the Dodgers. The D-backs STILL have to play St. Louis seven times (the Dodgers play the Cardinals three more times in early August), including a four-game roadie at St. Louis in the final week of the season, and the D-backs have been horrible against the NL Central.

sixfigurefan2, the Rockies' lack of pitching will keep them from getting a WC spot. In fact, I don't see the wild card coming from the NL West.

sixfigurefan2 I never said Valverde is bad. I'm just saying that we could have gotten a better deal with trading Valverde. Qualls actually had a good outing yesterday so I was quite shocked. I'm just voicing my opinions on what I have seen so far and I know there is plenty of games left. I just don't want to see two quality players in Salazar and Hudson leave because the team won't shell out the money to keep them. Just to let you know I'm a girl not a guy as you addressed in your comment. I also agree with Jon464

nau...agreed on the Salazar mess. I have been saying this for some time now, and to keep Burke vs Salazar is ridiculous! But, I tend tho think that it is Reynolds who needs to be placed back down in the minors. this guy is a huge talent, but, his fielding needs some huge improvement. I do believe its more of a confidence thing than skill, but he too could benefit from going down for a while. Our biggest mistake was letting Quentin go, and signing Byrnes. Hey, I too was all for keeping Byrnes here...but damn already. What a mess. I still think with the roster we have, they can turn this thing around. Young players will tend to have slumps, and we still have the last half of the season to get the job done. :LAstly, in no way will the Dodgers win this division! They are exactly where they should be, just about a .500 club...and the DBacks with the young talent they have, are far below where they should be. Dodgers are not even in the same class as the DBacks...

Lets goooooo DBacks!!

I actually thought I was uttering words of encouragement to a D-backs fan, nothing more nothing less.

Is there a reason I would have known you are a girl instead o####uy or a reason to think I would have said that to "degrade" you instead of just trying to be friendly? Sheesh people. It's like spelling Kenny like Kennee and freaking out when someone doesn't spell it right.

Since we have decided to be critical at an attempt of encouragement, please allow me to take my turn.

You mentioned that Justin Upton should be sent to the minors but unfortunately "management" won't acknowledge this until it's to late and people stop going to the games.

So am I to understand that just one year removed from a division title, you are saying the D-backs have the kind of fans that will stop supporting the team if it struggles? Please enlighten me as I want to make sure that what I read wasn't something else and thus I need it pointed out to me.

sixfigurefan6 im sorry about the last comment i was having a bad day and thank you for the encouragement. it's a general comment about all the mistakes being made that some fans who are fairweathered fans would not support the team. i pretty sure the non fairweathered fans would stick around.

Understood. Good luck to the D-backs the rest of the way.
