An Open Letter to Fans of the Dallas Cowboys
Jan 14, 2008 | 5:41PM | report this
Dear fans of the Dallas Cowboys,

This is an open letter to any and all fans of "America's Team." I am writing to you out of concern because I am worried about how you are dealing with the recent playoff loss to the New York Giants. It has come to my attention that instead of taking a closer look at the Cowboys organization and team, that you have decided to shift the blame to a 5'2'', 105 pound blonde force that is called Jessica.

This concerns me Dallas fans.

First of all, Jessica is one of your own. She is Texan born and raised, and having lived in Texas for three years, I know how ya'll love you some homegrown Texas girls. How can you turn your back so quickly?? Like it or not, she is a Cowboys fan, just like you.

Why not blame the "star" Quarterback, Tony Romo? He grew up in Wisconsin. Texans could care less about people from Wisconsin! As far as ya'll are concerned, Tony Romo comes from a different country! Or what about T.O? Alabama boy ain't from Texas either! Alabama is geographically in the south, but it still isn't as good as Texas in your eyes! Sure, these are your star athletes, but I know you have your gripes about the two of them. I know you do!

This is Romo's second year in a row blowing it in the playoffs. I lived in Texas last year and lived through the whole debacle that was the dropped ball. Even I wanted to find Mr. Romo and just give the guy a hug. Ya'll were ruthless! But even better than Romo is T.O. Terrell CRIED during an interview after the game. It wasn't even the Superbowl! Are you not embarrassed by this?

The thing that boggles my mind the most though is the media frenzy that is now surrounding Miss Simpson. She can't even attend games to watch her boyfriend play anymore for risk of being killed by supposed "fans." Romo was taunted all over America with Jess masks (excellent idea by the way), and it's even on the evening news.

How can one tiny, little, peroxide blonde girl from Texas be the sole reason for the Cowboys flushing their season down the toilet?

Because you, Dallas fans, refuse to look at the real issue and realize that Jessica was not the one throwing passes or making blocks. She wasn't even in the stadium. You might be shocked to hear this, but there are actually 56 really large guys that are called athletes who make up the football team that is the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas Fans, they are the ones who are ultimately responsible for the season ending sooner than it should have.

I really hope that during your extended off season that you have time to reflect on your behavior over the last couple of months. Give the pop-tart a break! Start blaming the players who have put you in a perpetually bad mood until next fall. And just think, only eight more months until you can experience the love that is the Dallas Cowboys all over again.

Ms. Natalie, gloating makes your butt look fat.
What will you do next week if the Pack loses?
Will you read a post from a NY ####, ripping on Favre?
DFW didn't shut down today...the world continued and this Vikes fan didn't notice too many crying fans around town.

I'm not really sure what I'll do next week if the Pack loses. Maybe I'll find a dairy farmer to blame. I'll read anything ripping on anyone --- especially if the person being ripped is asking for it.

Nat.....Funny stuff. What's that German word for enjoying the misery of others?

Jess is a tiny girl, even with the big sweater puppies I don't think she's anywhere near 120. I would bet on 100-110. Depending on the day of week.

It's not Jessica simpson or Tony Romo. The blame lies with the owner and the pathetic coach he hired. Stay in your box Jerry and get sloshed and hire football people not a bunch of yes men. The defensive coordinator sucks, and wade phillips couldn't inspire a little league team.

This writer is an ####. Tony Romo didn't blow it, Crayton, Jaques Reeves, anthony henry, roy williams, anthony fasano, the whole O line and the coaches blew it. this loss had nothing to do with tony romo or jessica simpson. it was penalties, stupid mistakes, which means the coaches did not get this team ready. i mean, giants had two backup secondary players and not once did we go after them. garret got out coached.

Been a Cowboys fan since '77 even though I grew up in Redskin country and I had to respond. It's not Jessica, it's not Tony, it's not TO, it's not Wade or Jason Garrett. It's not even Patrick Crayton whom I've seen fingers pointed at. It's the team as a team period. Came out without focused playoff intensity: Stupid penalties, dropped passes, poor tackling. That is what doomed the team. They allowed quick TD at the end of first half and while dominating Giants in time of possession, first downs, ect... even holding them under 250 total yards they couldn't get it done. What a waste. 13-3 and out. The only good news in all this is that they are a young team. Not very many players over 30 and they will be back with a vengeance because of the bad taste of this experience. Let's just not make this situation worse and cut them some slack. Also let's not lose Garrett to the Ravens or any other team. Chins up fans, at the beginning of the season I don't think anyone expected 13-3

Right…Do you have nothing better to write about? I mean the Cowboys lost, just like the defending super bowl champs did, but I guess if Payton manning didn’t do all the commercials they would have beaten the Chargers right? So all the Mexico talk and Jessica talk need to stop. The facts are THE GIANTS WON and the cowboys lost. Im just tired of the BS journalism that goes on around here on this site, its sad when someone in the media takes a shot at a team just because they personally don’t like them. GET OVER YOURSELF. YOUR SORT OF LIKE THE SCUM THAT SITS IN YOUR MOUTH WHEN YOU SLEEP WITH YOUR MOUTH OPEN ALL NIGHT.

PS. Get a clue Foxsports.com these blogs make the people who write them and YOUR Company look like TRASH! Have a very nice day, all you cowboy haters!

I agree that Jessica isn't to blame, but how can anyone who watched the game blame Romo or Owens? Was TO not double-covered most of the game and still got some passes his way? Yes Romo missed him on one pass close to the endzone that could have atleast netted a first down, but as replay showed it slipped from his hand. That happens to alot of quarterbacks, even the much heralded (and with good reason) Tom Brady. TO didn't drop any passes to him. A deep pass closer on replay showed it was deflected at the last minute by the defender. Now, onward with Romo. He was on-target most of the night when he had time to throw. I counted three times he had to hurry and pass on his backfoot (can't get proper velocity or distance doing that) because the O-line let Gmen in his face, and the receiver couldn't get to it (see the play before he yelled at his O-line in the 4th when he was trying to pass to T. Glenn for a 1st Down). Then we have two drops by P. Crayton...one when Romo had to scramble around, running to sidelines and then sidearmed around a flying defender to put the ball right in the hands of #84, who had open field in front of him for a big gain and possibly a TD, only to drop it. Then, he dropped another pass that was either for him or Witten, but his hands were on the ball so he should have caught it, then at end of game in corner of endzone, crayton admitted to "hesitating after getting past the DB" and even said had he continued running like he was supposed to, he'd have been where Romo threw the ball to. D did their job. Crayton did not.

Lets be clear. How many NFL players don't have an exceptionally hot significant others? Most NFL quarterbacks have their own version of Jessica Simpson in the stands. Is Romo 12 years old and this is his first girlfriend?

Great post.
As a Dallas fan you can bet that playoff loss was a huge dissapointment. I've waited 11 years for the Cowboys to duplicate their franchise-best 13-3 record, only to have it squandered in the first round of the playoffs.
However, I don't think the blame lies in the STAR athletes. Marion Barber is emerging as a star in the league and should be credited for his stellar production in the reg. and post season (though he wasn't a factor in the second half of the game on sunday). Jason Witten continues to prosper, and Terrel Owens hasn't been a constant distraction to the Cowboys as he was to Philadelphia and San Fran, and he's puttin up his fair shair of numbers. An NFC leading 15 touchdown receptions ain't to shabby, especially when you consider who he's taking the fast balls from.
That's right I do blame Tony Romo. Not because of Jessica. Not because of the infamous fumble or his interception this year. But I blame Tony Romo for his lack of poise, and his lack of maturity.
You never see the great Tom Brady smiling in the huddle when he's down 4 points. You'd never see him mess around on the sidelines or being a "celebrity" quarterback. Sure he's dated his fair shair of models but he keeps his production up.
And even though I dislike that man over there in Indy, I give him credit too. He doesn't quit on a game, even if he's frustrated he goes out and plays ball. I don't think Peyton is anywhere near Brady but he's one good son-of-a-gon.
But even more so than romo i blame the front office. I think Jerry Jones needs to get real, hire a REAL Gen

Hey now nice post! Although I am not a fan of the Cowboys the real cowboy fans don't think they lost because of J.Simpson. That is a bit of a stretch. They lost because they did not play well in a lot of areas. Not just the QB. Ridiculous penalties, sloppy line play and the QB did not know how to throw the ball away when he needed to. By the way Texas doesn't like a lot of other people. Guess what YALL can just stay in Texas!!!!

Jessica has nothing to do with it. Let's start with Jaques Reeves not being able to cover anyone. How about Patrick Crayton on those 2 dropped balls. Or Tony Romo taking those sacks. Or the offensive line picking up penalties. Or Roy Williams not playing like the Roy Williams of old. I won't even get started on Wade Phillips. True Cowboys fans know what happened and I blame the entire team. Down to the towel boy and the cheerleaders. I hope the Giants meet the Patriots in the Super Bowl and they both lose. Go Cowboys!!!

I really think it is stupid to blame the loss or how they play on Jessica. Come on are you people serious. She has nothing to do with how the Dallas Cowboy players play on the field. It has to do with the players. ALL of them. Not just 1 or 2 of them. They play as a team. They win as a team and they lose as a team.
So please get over the Jessica thing.

See the thing is Cowboys fans can't come to grips with reality that there team and franchise are garbage!!! yeah they have 5 super bowl wins but they also have 3 losses. The other two teams with 5 wins the 49ers and Steelers are 5-0 and 5-1. The Cowboys will not win the big one with Romo at QB and TO. It isn't going to happen and they can blame Jessica Simpson all they want. But who wouldn't take going to Mexico with Jessica Simpson over spending the bye week in Texas??? Come on get a grip!!!

As a Dallas fan I don't understand why there is so much hate on these boards. It good to cheer for your team but why the hate and foul language. As far as this open letter. I don't think most of the Cowboys fans blame Jessica but they do blame the QB. Ultimately he's the leader of the team..Right? This guy just got lots of money and vacations usually don't start until the season is over. Most of the fans feel that his head was not where it should have been. Of course fans don't dictated who he dates but fans are the reasons they get paid all this money. Business should come first then play. This goes to all the Cowboy team because all of them combined lost the game.

Blame? There is no Blame. One team wins, the other loses PERIOD! First of all this is only the first season that Tony Romo has been a full time(16 game) starter. I remember a guy named Favre that hit a few bumps in the road his first and second year as a starter. In fact those bumps were called The Dallas Cowboys!
Second, these are not the New York Giants of September and October! Eli Manning looks like he has matured two years in six weeks. He holds his head high, stands in and throws with confidence and doesn't hang his head and mumble to himself after an incompletion. Your Cowboys got beat by a team on the rise while your guys have gone over the peak. By the way, the NFL has seen bigger upsets, alot bigger than Sundays game. It's hard to beat a good team twice, almost impossible three times.
Last, TO. Yes, the loss was heartbraking, but the tears, well, at least nominate him for an Oscar. I do agree with this though; Get off of Romo! If any of you arm chair geneuses can do any better, put up or shut up.

I couldn't believe it when i read that Roy Williams and Terrance Newman said that you can't just flip on a switch, i don't understand how you can't flip a switch and go from regular season play to playoff time play, if that is your mentality you don't deserve to be in the NFL making that big money and as for Patrick Crayton if you can't catch a ball that has hit you right in your hands after your quarterback has scrambeled for his life to get to you then you don't deserve to be in the NFL either, i blame first of all Jerry Jones for first of all allowing other teams to interview his staff for jobs when the season isn't over yet, i blame the defense for not pressuring Eli Manning and letting them drive down the field in 41 seconds to tie the game before halftime, i blame the offensive line for not protecting Romo in the 2nd half, i blame special teams for allowing so many yards to be gained on kickoff/punt returns, Romo was a little to blame for taking sacks and not getting rid of the ball but they could have overcame those if Crayton would have caught the ball, Romo is however only in his 2nd season, how many QB's would have done this good so early in their career? Romo gave us all too many expectations. Jason did a fine job calling the game, the only call i would have made different was the play right before they scored their 2nd TD, i would have play action passed instead of run but the run worked the 2nd time, barely but it worked.

Natalie, It's OK to be a hater. The Giants are going home this week, so I guees we will see you on the Golf course soon.
This game was an upset. Nothing more than that. The Giants didn't outplay Dallas, look at the TOP, and total yards. If your looking for an abberation you got one.
Fact is Tony Romo threw 36 TD passes this season. Thats second to Brady and earned a 2nd Pro Bowl.
Dallas is young and the future of the NFL.
Oh and Eli can't play in the cold.
And you can't catch one.

An Open Letter to "Mz Gracie"

you guys crack us up. We are concerned with how YOU are dealing with OUR playoff loss.

Yep, it was painful but it happens. Happened to Indy, 13-3 regular season with 1st round bye, then lost at home. They came back and won the Super Bowl the next year.

Happened to Pittsburg .... 15-1 regular season, 1st round bye, lost at home. Then came back next year and won the Super Bowl.

We should be going to the bowl this year but couldn't put a solid game together in the 2nd round, rusty of otherwise. It happens. We will be a force to contend with again next year.

Winning 1 SB is extraordinarily difficult much less multiple SB's. That is why there are only a few teams in the History of the NFL that have won more than once. Dallas is tied for 5 with the Steelers and SF and have made it to Super Bowl more time than any other team in the History of the NFL with 8 shows.

That is the mark of a True Champion, a True Dynasty, the single most winning Franchise in NFL History. And History will continue next year as well. And was all done with Class, without cheating, .... which is Why Dallas IS America's Team.

It is also why avowed HATERS like yourself are still talking about America's Team even though we are no longer in the 2007/2008 season playoffs.

Dallas makes good press. We give you something to talk about.

WIth a potentially historic season in the making with the PAts undefeated regular season, albeit tainted by the greatest CHEATING scandle in the history of the NFL, AND with Four Very Talented and dedicated teams STILL playing,

This article is silly, except that she states that Jessica Simpson has nothing to do with us losing. I agree with that 100%.

The fact of the matter is that we had an incredible team, that peaked too early and lost momentum...the most important ingrediant in post-season success.

Romo IS a good quaterback, with many successful seasons ahead of him before he becomes a GREAT quarterback. No mistake in signing him long term at all. He is our QB.

The problem we face now is all the people that made our team so special this season getting picked over like crows by all the other teams with vacancies out there. We need to let the ones go that didn't pull their weight, and PAY WHATEVER IT TAKES TO KEEP THE ONES THAT DID. We will be in the hunt for seveal years to come with the talent and staff we have, as long as we can keep them together.

Less than seven months 'til preseason. I remember saying that last year...

WIth a potentially historic season in the making with the PAts undefeated regular season, albeit tainted by the greatest CHEATING scandle in the history of the NFL, AND with Four Very Talented and dedicated teams STILL playing, ... We give your existence a reason for anyone else to know about it. Who else would read what you have to say if not for the COWBOY name attached.

Don;t get me wrong .... I enjoyed your comments, ... and for the record, Dallas Fan's DO NOT believe Simpson had anything to do with our loss in the playoffs. It happens. That is why we play the games. THE MEDIA, on the other hand, (bloggers included), are the only ones who had a problem with Tony and His girlfriend. The entire thing is a joke to the rest of us. Tony is the single most recognized QB in the league on the single most popular franchise in the NFL. It goes with the territory in Dallas.

Tony goes on a family vacation to relax or to Thanksgiving dinner with the Family with his girlfriend and the Media crucifies and and how it may affect his play on the field and yet Brady Boy knocks up some model, ditches her for another younger version of the single mom he knocked up and no one says a thing,...... Why????? Because NO ONE CARES. When NO ONE CARES, .... NO ONE READS OR LISTENS, ....

AMERICA's TEAM is good press and gives EVERYONE something to enjoy.

These writers are all jokes because they come from the east coast bias of hating Dallas. probably for all our success in the history. Teams go through these long spells, btu the teams like Philly that have nothing but long spells should shut their mouths.

I love Roy Williams, but he couldn't turn the switch on all year! So it doesn't surprise me, the rest of them need to find that switch fast!

Seems to me you are pretty ignorant when it comes to sports. So exactly how man fans did you poll to come up with this nifty story. Most true fans will tell you that the whole team was playing uninspired football over the last month or so and they were unable to flip the switch for the playoffs.

Great post! Anyone who can get Packers and Bears fans to agree must be saying something right! As for any perceived "east coast bias" as far as hating Dallas goes--Everyone outside of Dallas and some fair-weather fans HATES Dallas. We delight in Cowboys fans' misery because you force us to listen to your arrogant ranting year after year. face it--the Cowboys have been largely insignificant since the 90's--not unlike the 49ers. Even with undeniable talent (some acquired at the expense of your souls), the Cowboys manage to F things up in epic ways. Cowboy football as of late is like getting to watch a train wreck year after year, with different-#### trains and different engineers. Great stuff!
