NA$CAR is milking the dust up between Kurt and Smoke to the hilt. They want to salvage the ratings anyway they can; so they wil string it along until the media loses interest. The real story at Daytona is the win by Junior. Nothing will get the fans going like him winning. Even those who don't count themselves as Jr. fans pay attention to how he does. The other big story at Daytona is the success of the Toyota's. The level of dominance by Hendrick's is not good for racing and is getting old with all except diehard Hendrick's fans. So far, Ford and Dodge are looking like they can't compete with Chevy/Hendricks,and so the competition from Toyota is good news to anyone who doesn't want to see a walk over.

Other than the trials; in which Toyota is looking surprisingly stout, ther's not much to get excited about. But not to disappoint everyone I have a few insightful,.pithy comments.
1. Early indications are that Toyota will come out the gate whooping ####! Did anyone really think they would not get it together.
2. Kyle Busch made the conversion to Gibbs/Toyota spectacularly.
3. Dodges-especially Eberham look very weak. The best news for them is that Ray will have full time to devote to Bimbo hunting!
4. This is a make or break year for J.J. Yelly. He was the real loser in the Jr. shuffle.
5. Hendricks will again be strong out the gate, but I think Roush/Ford will close the gap by year-end.
6. The open wheel invasion will be a monumental flop. Most of them, except Hornish, will be gone before year end.
7. Kurt Busch showed al ot of class/guts in that deal.
8.The best driver without a ride is David Streeme. He's a great kid and very talented driver. What a shame!
9. Darlington has been resurfaced and ruined as far as I am concerned. I will be there for the race to see if it is so!
I have been reading the postings on this site for sevral weeks now without comment!. I don't think I have read anything of much interest all this time!!
Montoya proved that not only is he a bad driver; he is a bald-faced liar. He insisted on a higher gear in his car ;against the wishes of his team and was backed by Ganissi. .When he could not stay up on restarts, he tried to block Martin Treuex Jr. and caused a chain reaction crash which took out Harvick, Burton and himself. He had the unbelieavabke gall to lie and try to blame Treux for the crash. Reruns will prove everything I am saying!!
Something is becoming obvious ,even to a stubborn SOB like me. I made a post about JP "WB" Montoya that could certainly be considered racist by the most objective reader. The fall out from that is that everytime I "thump" an unarmed man/woman in a battle of wits, they first want to declare a draw; then they play the race card thinking that will win them "the battle".
No one is to construe this as an apology! I don't apologize for saying what I believe. Last time I checked, it's my constitutional right.
But by way of explanation.
Most of you are "word smiths". You project ideas and use persuassion. Some better than others!! I am not that. I attempt to communicate passion. In order to attempt that, I use short concise, factual statements:strong modifiers and action verbs. I reserve the right to call Montoya any name I chose,if it conveys the negative passion I feel for him as a driver. If you want to consider me a racist, OK, But you don't know me: you are not my friend,so I don't care what you think. People who know me are allowed to judge-not the fu--ing PC police.
At the break Hendricks and Gibbs are even with a grade of A.. Hendricks has a slight lead because they won several races when they did not have the best car. Conversely, Gibbs did not win several races when they had the dominant car. RCR, Roush and Penske grade out t a B. Ginn, DEI and Gannasi are B- teams. Without Menard DEI is a B. Petty, R.Gordon and Yates are C+ teams. Raines, Hass and Eberham are c- teams. The Toyota teams are Fs, except Bill Davis who is a D.
Kyle Busch's late pit strategy for both races this weekend was ridiculous. I have to wonder if this was retaliation for his comments about the 24,25 and 48 cars!
I have heard from reliable sources that Tony Stewart's win is being investigated by Nascar. Seems that there was some problem with weight. Not his car-Tony's weight! Apparently Tony was 20 lbs. lighter after Gibbs chewed his fat -ss!
Denny Hamlin was a non-factor in this race. This is strange since he usually does so well on the "cookie-cutter tracks. Maybe Gibbs took less out of his -ss.
Has anyone noticed the emergence of Roush cars over the last two races on tracks where they usually don't run well. Conversly, Hendrick appears to flounder lately. Is Johnson heading for his late season swoon?
RCI has all their teams hitting on all eight!
Just a word about one of my favorite drivers John Andretti. Watch out for him for the remainder of the year! Especially at Talledega.
Lisa, I know you are probably the premier , NASCAR expert in California, but I want to tell you a fairy tale. You made the comment about what my reaction might be to the first black driver in NASCAR.
Let me tell you a tale about a car owner, driver extra-ordinaire, and man ahead of his times.
He worked as a taxi driver, and learned to
be a mechanic in the Army during WWII. After returning home he worked as a
mechanic, and in the evenings sometimes delivered moonshine. He began racing in 1947
on local tracks in hobby, amateur and sportsman classes. He met with gradually
increasing success. In 1959 he won 22 races, the Richmond
track championship, and the Virginia
state sportsman title.
In1961 he moved up to the NASCAR Grand National (now Nextel
Cup) division. In the 1963 season, he finished 15th in points, and in December,1961
he won a race at Jacksonville, Fla. on the one mile dirt track at Speedway Park
. He continued to be a competitive driver despite his low-budget operation
through the rest of the 1960s. In 1964, he finished 12th in points despite
missing several races. Over the next five years, he consistently finished in
the Top Ten in the point standings. He finished 11th in points in 1965, was a
career-high 6th in 1966, 10th in 1967, and finished 9th in both 1968 and '69.
His top year in winnings was 1969 when he won $47,451
He was forced to retire due to injuries from a racing accident at Talladega,
Alabama in 1973 he achieved one win and 147 top ten finishes in 495 career
Grand National start.
He is one of the people I admire and respect the most,in NASCAR. He did not get ahead because of some quota system,or diversity program so favored by people like you.
You really hurt me with your "mean spirited reference to me as a.............ra--st.
I am admittedly a racist like everyone else! What I am not; is a bigot! Look in your dictionary,if you know how to use it and learn the difference, Spell check will not suffice. If you noticed, I put the nickname "crash" in parenthesis as is gramatically correct. Actually, Montoya was given the name #### at birth, but he changed it to Juan Pablo, because #### sounded too Mexican.
"Crash". #### Montoya strikes again, My condolences to the teams whose drivers were taken out by this incompetent quota filler. How about Stewart wreaking out a teammate and then blaming the victim. Tony needs to stop using whatever it is that makes him dillusional and unable to apply the brakes of his car. Probabaly, Ricky Rudd, Sterling Marlin or believe it or not, Kyle 'spider ####"Petty, or one the other"real man" drivers need to open up a "can of wh----ss" for them!
Juan Pablo Montoya won because he happened to have a car with the best gas milage. At least 10 drivers were consistently turning faster laps then him. I challenge any of the PC police who are trumpeting his win as some harbinger of his emergance as a NASCar's next superstar to check the facts. Additionally he intentionally turned at least three drivers during the race: denying them the chance at a top five finish. I am amazed that someone did not put him in the "ditch". I guess I should not be surprised because I am sure NASCAR wants him to win for propoganda purposes and would have likely parked anyone who retaliated. Most of the drivers of today are so vanilla and sponsor controlled that the sport is becoming milk-toast benign. With a few notable exceptions, todays drivers do not have the kahonnes to do anything anyway. If Juan Pablo is a great driver, I am am a "tuskeegee aviator".
I am a long term Nascar fan who kwows the first names of the first "royal family" of stock car racing -the Flocks. I also know who won at Talledegga when a Richard Petty boycott over safety left most of the top drivers absent. I know the name of the first successful black driver in Nascar. I have an abiding distaste for most of the arrogant empty headed, sexually disadvantaged drivers and fans currently mucking up the sport.
