A lot a news going on in the world of racing this past week, so forgive me for only mentioning a few items:
Turns out Max Mosely, FIA President, wasn't actually involved in a N*azi sex fantasy with four women after all. It was just a German prison fantasy. Well, there you go...I feel so much better about it now.
Tony staying or going? Ryan staying or going? Martin staying or going? DEI staying or going? Is Joey comng up? Is Dario going back to open-wheel? In or out, In or out? Don't know, but I have been taking quite a bit of Advil lately.
Good race on Saturday night. Lot's of action up front, middle and rear. People were running all over the place. At the end, bottles and cans were thrown at the competitors. People were cheering and booing. There were fireworks. Long lines after it was all over to leave and make their way home. Oh, you thought I was talking about the race...nope, that was my night at the bar. But we did all have different makes of vehicles to drive on the way out.
The race? Yeah, yeah, it was good. Still is restrictor-plate racing, though. I give NASCAR credit that handling actually matters after 15 laps o####reen-flag run. That wasn't the case up until the last two years. Talladega, however, is another matter. I know several folks here that love that race and I'm not bashing it at all. But come on, can't we do something to break it up a little? Hanahan and HotfootLori don't burn my image in effigy for that last statement.
TNT - Hmmmmm. I would like to say good things about "Wide Open Coverage". But, if you ask me (and for these purposes, please do) it would seem that this is the minimum amount of coverage we SHOULD expect from the broadcast partners. It really is no different than what they did in the late-90's when TBS covered the Coca Cola 600. If ESPN/ABC can manage it with the IRL, there is no reason it can't be used full-time with Cup racing. Can we also tell Wally and Kyle that we like their kidding around, but when something actually happens on the track, please refer to the action only?
The F1 race was stellar. It was exciting. It was tense. I know that those three words are not used to describe that series often. Usually it's an exciting first lap and then a wait until pit stops and early retirements, followed by endless blocking maneuvers. Not on Sunday. Yes, Lewis Hamilton ran away from the field. But cars were spinning in the wet like the ballet. Rain just makes for compelling racing in F1. Ruebens Barrichello and his team made the call of the race to pit for rain slick tires, while the rest of the field stayed on the intermediate's compound. He unlapped himself and, at one point, was running 9 seconds a lap faster than the rest of the field. Unfortunately, he needed an additional fuel stop at the end and settled on the podium in 3rd. Nick Heidfeld ran an excellent race to finish runner-up and continue BMW's resurgence. It was a bad day for Ferrari with 5 spins between Massa and Kimi. Wait, did you hear that? Felipe just spun again when I wrote that....
The IRL at Watkins Glen was, surprisingly, a bit boring. I really like (and always have) the track. Helio was in trouble after the morning run and went laps down quickly. Justin Wilson had more bad luck. Dan Wheldon was run into the back early and had suspension damage. Scott Dixon and Ryan Briscoe dominated early and that put me to sleep. But then Danica Patrick inexplicably spun leaving the pits and almost took out the Ganassi crew. EJ Visio drove Vitor Meira into the concrete barrier in turn one and made Vitor look like the gopher from Caddyshack with his hands flailing staight up and down. Cue Kenny Loggins "I'm all right, don't nobody worry 'bout me." Then Dixon, cleaning his tires on a late caution, spun like a top and took himself and Briscoe out of a chance to win. Ryan Hunter Reay - yes that's right - an American male, in an American open wheel series took the checkered flag. Way to go dude!
The Chase(r) - Were getting closer to Richmond. Remember that I've been saying that Greg Biffle is going to be on the outside looking in when we leave VA. Look, I think Greg is a very talented driver. But there is just something funny about that team. Bonehead things happen to him at the worst possible times. Bad wheels, pit stops, loose lug nuts, untimely green flag pit stops, caught up in accidents - it doesn't seem to matter. He is running better than his current position, but I don't think they will have enough "finishes" to keep himself inside the top-twelve. Look for the Biff to be strong at Michigan, California and maybe Chicagoland. But Watkins Glen and Bristol will mean he needs to be top-ten at the Brickyard and Pocono.
Martin Truex just lost 150 points. Don't think he is out yet, but don't know where he will make it up. Brian Vickers (come on BVick!) can still get it done. He needs to stay clean at the shorter venues and get a couple of top-fives at the 2+ mile tracks. I am backing off my proclamation that Kurt Busch is out of it. Sorry KLV, for giving up on the Miller Lite team so quickly. But it seems as though karma has turned in his favor. He can win at least three of the remaining pre-chase tracks - Michigan, Bristol and California. Believe he will get some help from either Harvick or Bowyer, who seem to be just getting finishes right now.
Well, that's all for me. Time to get back inside for a frosty one(s).
P.S. - How many Green-White-Checker finishes have actually run green until the finish? My guess is about 33%. Anyone else care to do the research, please help yourself.
I would rather watch a plate race any day than another cookie cutter track. Just wait for Kansas, Cali, Chicago, Las Vegas, etc, etc. They'll break it up a little for ya, mose.
Wonder why more teams, or drivers, weren't ####ing about the tires? There were some RF blowouts.
Truex and Bowyer won't make the Chase. If the Biff doesn't make it, look for him to win about 3 of the ten Chase races.
What's the deal with the spelling vs pronunciation of Bowyer's last name? The Brett Favre of NASCAR.
No worries moseby...you can give up on them, but I wont. I would guess Truex, Biff and Bowyer dont make the Chase. Not sure if Kurt can make another run like last year but you know *I* cant count him out.
H-man - Yeah, I'm feeling your poetry on the cutter tracks. But remember, Charlotte is considered one and it has had some of the greatest racing in NASCAR history. California has just never become what Michigan is. Kansas isn't too bad now, 2nd groove seems to work well.
The Biff is a rim-rider. Needs a focused team/spotter.
Hey if it's Cameron Diaz (or even Chalize Theron), she can pronounce my name anyway she wants - Mooozzeeebee!
KLV - I really believe Kurt is a top-three car at Michigan, Bristol and a top-five at Cali. Think he can win any one of those races. If they can avoid mechanical problems, I'll say the Blue Duece comes in 11th or 12th when the clock strikes midnight at Richmond.
JW - I think Tophatal revealed the photo's that got Mosely off the hook. What really happened was Max was playing Harvey Korman's role in Blazing Saddles. And the women were all Madeline Kahn...
Mose - you and I aren't going to agree on that, ever, are we? I guess all the Toyota drivers (Rowdy included) will win the rest of the races this year since you believe it is the EQUIPMENT.
Smoke will make it in next year, because Chevy will be implementing their new engine package. Just like Dodge will be soon enough this year.
I really have been impressed with Terry Labonte. I mean, he is getting it done in Kyle's absence. It just can't be all EQUIPMENT.
Lori - What I'm saying is that the best body/engine packages can make a great driver look okay and an okay driver look very good.
Toyota has had success because Rowdy is an excellent driver in excellent equipment and has had good fortune. Tony has not had good fortune but is an excellent driver in excellent equipment. BTW, I still think the HMS drivers will be ready once the Chase starts, so I concede nothing to Kyle, Tony or Denny yet. Plus, Carl Edwards is a star in my opinion.
Next year at Stewart-Haas, Tony will be an excellent driver in marginal equipment with a new engine package PLUS he will be directly involved with a complete overhaul of a racing operation in which he is an owner. This isn't his midget, sprint and Outlaw operation - This is a Nascar Cup Operation. That's all I'm saying. Do I think Tony will make them a lot better next year? Yes, absolutely. But it is going to take a while for him to bring that operation up to a Hendrick or even RCR type quality. You understand that I'm never showing disrespect to what the drivers bring to the table, ok? I do think the media in this sport tends to overstate the dynamic that the team, pit crew, race shop and the organization bring to the competition. All drivers are not in Hendrick race cars on Sunday with the Matt Kenseth's pit crew and Chad Knaus as the crew chief. That's what many fans/media take for granted. It's the whole package.

Is there meant to be a difference between a Na*zi prison fantasy and a Na*zi sex fantasy ? So instead of of masochism being played out in flights of fancy it's sado-masochism being played out with the little bit of sex and debauchery being thrown in for good measure ...prison style.
Where's the Marquis de Sade when you need him ? Or for that mattter Torqemada ? Nothing spells sex and debauchery better than those two !
And I see that Alonso may well be on the move again ? Well now that Hamilton is on the rise he just doesn't want to be seen as yesterday's man or wonder. F1 to me no longer seems to be all that exciting. I don't if it's because of the stranglehold of Ecclestone or the continuing chasm between FIA. But the series to me is becoming so generic that its begun to lose its identity.
What's up Top? I need Denise Milani to help me get through the cool summer nights in DC, right now.
It is quite fascinating that press interviews were granted to clarify as to what the EXACT nature of the sex act was. The world has come a long way from days of cigarette smoking on movie screens representing an o*ral sex act.
I have enjoyed this particular season in F1. Because the rise of a 3rd manufacturer was necessary for the series. What it lacks is of course a dominant driver with the flair of Senna or the assassin quality of Schumacher. But Hamilton does give us that hope. Taking away traction control was a good start. The racing has been better in Monaco, Canada and Silverstone, although rain was the main factor. Perhaps if they eliminated the need for alternating the soft and hard compound tires, more strategy would be in play.
Fernando will never be happy, no matter what his situation is.

I can't say of late that I've been that much interested in F1 . It's as I'd alluded to before I feel that it's become too generic. Rightfully so there are no longer any real characters in the sport. Hamilton gives hope to many but I can only hope that he becomes a good ambassador for the sport over time.
i saw that you read my piece entitled The Sporting Weekend That Was ? Do check out the following and let me know what you think as to their merits ? I'll be looking forward to reading your comments. The pieces are titled

Top - I always check your stuff out when I find it. Sometimes have trouble finding it. But now I have finally learned (after 1 year) to click on the avatar to pull up the profile to take me to someone's blog.
Jeez, you would think someone with a bachelor's degree would catch on quicker than I do, wouldn't you?
Han - you have been to MANY more NASCAR races than I. But will say to you, if it is a NASCAR fantasy with four women you've seen - isn't it imperative that you get to choose the particular four?
Can say for certain that there are many that I wouldn't call a "fantasy".

Mosley's life had to have been a very dull one at home. But then again it mightn't have been. The only thing may well have been he just didn't like the look of the wife.
Role playing has its moments then again it doesn't.
But if the wife finds out that you're in need of assistance then it can become ever so embarrassing.

Stranger things have been known to have happened. I just finished obtaining my MBA . But putting it to use in this environment is extremely tough. I've no wish to teach and I certainly don't want to go back into either investment backing or international finance.
For the moment I'll just stay put and stick with Logistical mangaement. It pays well and I've no complaints at all from my superiors.

I hear that, Al. I'm riding the government contracting line for another 3 years before I find find something more satisfying. 20 years of business/corporate finance is dulling my senses.
That's so true, mose. I will say that the female NASCAR fans get better looking every year. Or, I'm just getting older.
Back to racing. I just heard that the only way that JGR would let Tony leave early was for him to promise not to take any JGR employees (Zippy) with him.
I could see JGR making Tony sign a non-compete clause in recruiting existing JGR employees. But what if they just wanted to move on to Stewart Haas? Other than Zippy, the car chief's and the Mark Cronguist in the engine shop, I doubt that many have actually signed employment agreements of duration. Seems kind of thin to me....
As you guys know I loves me some Denise Milani. And from what I'm led to believe she now pops (pardon the pun here ....with her assets I can well understand ) around the NASCAR circuit doing interviews. But to date I've not seen one on any of the networks that carry NASCAR. I've yet to see her conducting an interview with any of the drivers. Wha's up with that ?
Milani at Fontana racetrack for a publicity stance.
And as some of us are more accustomed to seeing her. But here she's fully dressed.
So if any of you are in the know as to the reason why we don't see her conducting interviews with the likes of Gordon, Stewart, Johnson , Busch and others . Let me know why it is. It seems so unfair to we males who love the sport as well as amply endowed female.
Also ... "Look for David Reutimann to be announced soon as the replacement for Kyle Petty in the 45 car, something the Petty folks would rather we not know about just yet."

I give you Milani and you can't even answer my querstion as to why don't get to see her conducting interviews with any of the NASCAR drivers. I'm sick and tired of seeing the same stale ol' guys asking the same mono-syllabic mundae questions week in week out. Less of 'em and more of Milani wouldn't you say ?
Answer the question damn it why don't we see her conducting interviews with any of the guys ?
I hope that you've now become attuned to snowboarding as Gretchen Bleiler can warm up a room at any temperature.
No, you don't have to go to the link. I just wanted you to know. Anyways, MWR released statement saying he wasn't going anywhere. I think MWR would release McDowell before Reutimann anyway, due to the crew chief change. But that's me.
Top - Denise is hired I tell you!!! Why anyone wouldn't want to be interviewed by her is beyond me.
Maybe it's because Ingrid and Ashley don't want someone better looking to interview their men?
You know that, seriously, Denise has the perfect face for my taste. She looks a lot like a girl I grew up with and never got to ask out, because she was by buddy's girlfriend. Man I hate remembering the past.
LOL - Kyle Petty got passed up on the #5, and now there is NO way he'll get that ride with Smoke. Sorry, not happening!
I'm mostly German, Irish, and Cherokee Indian. (Can you say temper??) My genealogy has been traced back to England, and supposedly I am distantly related to Queen Elizabeth. Cool huh? If only I could confirm that :)
Hey, great blog. I really enjoyed it. (Well, I am a Jew so I don't like the part about Max ####, but that is okay, because I'm open minded. Also, I know what you mean, but he is just disgusting to me.) Thanks for this insight. You are a great guy!
moseby
I'd take ski lessons from Bleiler but I'd also be willing to give her lessons too. I'd teach her , hand to hand combat. I'd willingly let her throw me down on a mat anytime. The same too with Milani. I'd even be willing to give 'em each French lessons.
The wee Scotsman and his bonny lass
But I digress , I've really got to find out why we're not seeing Milani on tv interviewing the guys. What have their wives or girlfriends got to be afraid of ? It's not as Jeff's wife is all that innocent from the get go anyway. And as for Ashley I'd have thought that having a Scotsman who wears a kilt would be right up her alley ?
Ashley's simply adorable no matter how she looks.....better yet when she's wet and has a clinging T-shirt showing off that body of her's.
volfan69 - Thank you, sweet lady. Congrats on winning the humor blog. Great stuff.
Mosely's story is disgusting and hilarious all at the same time. Everyone is entitled to their own privacy, but if your an international figure it would behoove you to be VERY discreet.

Milani is fluent in three languages. She's Czech by birth and has lived in the US for the last decade and a half. I'd think by now that she'd be able to enunciate and speak the language eloquently.
However the same can't be said of Lisa Guerrero when she was on tv at times . She'd screw more times that one would've cared to imagine. Not exactly the brightest bulb on a Christmas tree by any stretch of the imagination.

moseby great blog. Think you kind of covered the entire world of racing very nicely.
But I must say I love Talladega also. But I will admit I was pretty disappointed in the race earlier this year. It just didn't seem quiet as racy as it has been in the past.
I agree with you, the wide open coverage that TNT did last week is the least all of the networks should do. There is no reason why the race can't be shown while they show their commercials.
Yep, same guy as the other with this name. This is the dark side attempting to spew illogical opinion and incorrect facts to draw the ire of all passersby and drain their lifeforce...j ust kidding...rea lly.
