How did McNabb's comments turn into this?

Our beloved Campbell's soup man has been turned into a villain overnight.

Why?

He crossed that line.

You know THAT line.

And you know what happens when you cross THAT line.

The wagon starts to load up.

Donovan took off his tap shoes and raised his black fist to the heavens and made "THE MAN" mad.

Now the "McNabb Needs To Be Traded" Wagon is waiting at the curb and loading up.

Its always something in this city of Philly.

All it takes is one thing and the brush catches fire.

Yes, we had two black QB's before him and look what happened to them.

The same damn thing.

You will give your all to this city, then you just get shitted on and ran out of town.

Or sent packing without warning.

I've seen it all my life.

Randall Cunnigham, Charles Barkley, Allen Iverson....and all the ones in between.

All T.O. wanted was a contract worthy of his contribution to the team. He did play in the Super Bowl on one leg, I mean dang.

It went from "WE LOVE YOU T.O." to "FU T.O" in less than 6 months. And he's just one example I could go on and on!

A great player once made a comment and it got blown out of proportion by media and I really think it should our new slogan...

Philadelphia.......For Who? For What?

Ricky Watters got out of here quick!

But Donovan told the truth. It had nothing to do with this season, it was an overall assessment of being a NFL Quarterback who is Black. Of course there is a different perspective.

"Respect that Perspective"

Its not a race card. It's the truth!

And I'm glad he stood behind his statement and didn't apologize for the sake of apologizing when he wasn't sorry and didn't offend anyone.

Well, people were on his side after the T.O. thing but after these comments I think it is over for him (jeff garcia?) These philly fans are crazy and guess what when Westbrook gets his annual injury/ knee strain he will really be hard up and hear more boos than he did in 2002.

I believe that African Americans are harder on a black QB than any white media can. The NAACP criticized McNabb. He is seen as a member of management. He has really had no great receivers besides Owens and has had to scramble to make plays. Now his knees are shot and the receivers aren't deep threats still. He will be traded due to the Bill Walsh philosophy of trading one year too soon is better than one year too late. They have done with other Eagles players and McNabb knows this will happen too him also

Sometimes the NAACP just needs to stay relevant. They've become ambulance chasers on every subject except where it counts just to stay in the media.

I do wish Donovan could have spoken up more in regards to the team keeping certain players. But I think he saw T.O. and Jeff Garcia as a threat to his star status on the team. He kept saying "I'm the leader of this team" when it was already known. The dymanic of the team and the city changed for the better without McNabb as the focal point, really, so of course he didn't say anything when he could have.
I think Trotter getting cut pissed him off. It was a wake up call. I know he knows now his days are numbered.

My problem with McNabb is that every time anybody questions his abilities he immediately suggests it's only because he's a black Quarterback.

Donovan has been a media darling for a long time now. During the whole T.O. situation everybody just lined up behind Donovan and talked about how aweful T.O. was. Then when McNabb helped push Jeff Garcia out the door nobody asked any questions, just talked about how awesome he would be once he got back.

Now the Eagles are 0-2 and people are actively wondering if Donovan has what it takes to win the big one, remember he collapsed during the Super Bowl. It has nothing to do with the color of his skin and everything to do with his play on the field.

If you think this happened overnight you're blind. His "rep" has always been me first. A definite I guy. 1) His reputation started with him and his mom in soup commercials and her being all over the camera, rather lame. Similar to how Kurt Warner lost some of his reputation when they kept showing his wife during the Super Bowl. This is a man's game, not a mama's boys game. 2) We already knew T.O. was a ####, but when McNabb got all butt hurt when TO stole his thunder it made us like him even less. People expect more from the quarterback. He's the glue that holds the team together, supposedly. Eli Manning has taken heat for the same behavior. 3) When Jeff Garcia came in and led them to the playoffs McNabb was swept further under the rug. Fans want wins, and nothing else. Now he's back and they're 0-2 and the timing blows for this commentary on the plight of all the black qbs. His publicist needs to be fired for not sticking a sock in his mouth when he was behind. Open your eyes, there's more to this than an interview.

Because most people would rather read a headline or a chopped up piece of a quote and use it as an opportunity to express their prefabricated and uninformed opinions...rather than listening to all of the details, giving it a little bit of thought, and respecting a different perspective.
