MLB Post-Season Thoughts: Part I
Oct 06, 2006 | 12:35PM | report this

Well here we all sit, 3 days of post-season baseball in the books, many more days ahead. As we head towards the weekend in which only 4 baseball teams will survive, I just thought it was time for me, in my first blog, to just give some observations on what we have seen and some thoughts on what to expect.

-Alex Rodriguez is the most overpaid person to ever walk the earth. Now, I'm as sick of hearing about ARod as all of you are. But I think it is my duty to mention something about him. So here it goes: ARod has 3 hits in the past two postseasons combined. That's right, 3 damn hits! He has also struck out 9 times in that span. Hmmm, $252 million? Seems like him getting paid that much to perform so terrible would be like myself getting paid to write this blog. I don't deserve to, and neither does he. If the Yankees fail to win the World Series (and right now, they just need to survive Detroit), I really feel like ARod will NOT be a Yankee next season. Keep an eye on that.

-The St. Louis Cardinals own the Padres in the playoffs. The Cardinals have now won 8 post-season games in a row against San Diego, while only trailing for 4 innings in that span! For a team that experts all said were sitting ducks lucky to make the playoffs, they look awfully good right now. Maybe it's because they finally have their players on the field all together. Or it could be due to the experience that the St. Louis Cardinals have in the playoffs recently. Or it could be the fact that Albert Pujols is the greatest hitter of this generation (inlcuding Bonds)! Whatever the reason, it sure looks like the Cards will make it to the NLCS for the 5th time in 7 years. So much for experts, huh?

-The Metrodome has got to be imploded. How is this stadium still around today? The turf itself looks like a complete mess, ground balls take some funky hops, the ball blends in with the roof making routine plays turn into triples, and their rightfield wall is made out of a Hefty bag!! Can anyone please explain to me why, in such technological times, the Twins are playing in this monstrosity?

-Willie Randolph knows how to manage a bullpen. While we're at it, the Mets bullpen is VERY underrated. Willie's game one move to bring in Pedro Feliciano to face Loften with one out and two on, followed by the bringing in of Chad Bradford to face Nomar with two outs, just shows how well Randolph can manage and how deep the Mets bullpen truely is. Guys like Guillermo Mota, Roberto Hernandez, and Aaron Heilman should be able to succeed very well in these big spots. The only thing I have my reservations on is how well Billy Wagner will perform in a BIG spot. We quick blip from Wagner in game one. For his postseason career, Wagner has an ERA of 8.10 (includes both games this postseason). The Mets bullpen should be able to get the ball to Wagner fairly easily, but how will Billy perform?

-ESPN and FOX are really killing me with the commercials they are running. But it isn't only their fault. I want to know who thought it would be a good idea to create a Holiday Inn commercial where a guy speaks in "humpback" the entire time! Where is this marketing genious? It is a very, very odd and uncomfortable commerical. And, I swear, if I have to see "Fudgem" in one more of Domino's commericals, I'm going to go to my local Domino's and flip out! He is NOT cute and he actually creeps me out a little bit!!

Enjoy the games everyone!
