I have decided to make an attempt to post a blog at least once a week. I see my friends using their writing abilities to post blogs on a daily basis, and I usually wonder how they do it. I do not find enough time to write as much as I would like, but maybe things will change with this post. Do not be surprised if you suddenly find my new posts appearing on the Internet on Sundays around noonish. My Sunday morning usually begins with me drinking a pot of coffee. Actually, every morning begins with me drinking a pot of coffee! The television finds itself being turned to ESPN so I can watch “Outside the Lines” and “The Sports Reporters”. I usually watch one airing of “SportsCenter” before turning to the SPEED channel. This is where I usually wait (impatiently) for NASCAR to take its rightful place in my life. This is also the time when my creative juices begin to flow. I usually see something on one of the shows I have watched that I do not agree with, and I have to voice my opinion. It has been an interesting week in sports, and my personal life as well (I will touch on that later.). My favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr., announced he is leaving DEI (Dale Earnhardt Inc.) at the end of this current season, and he will be taking his sponsor (Budweiser) and crew chief (Tony Eury Jr.) with him. Critics may say this is a display of disloyalty, egotism and youth on Dale Jr.'s part. I find this similar to statements made when Dale Earnhardt Sr. left Bud Moore (taking Wrangler with him) to join Richard Childress Racing immediately after winning a championship with Bud Moore as his owner. Dale Jr. now finds himself in a situation where virtually every racing team in NASCAR is willing to spend whatever amount is necessary to provide Dale Jr. with the resources needed to win a championship. The future looks bright for Jr., but I know he will take pleasure in being able to do something as simple as tell his owner they need to be running a lower gear ratio just to find responsible owners actually value input from their drivers (ask Ray Evernham)! In baseball, I find Barry Bonds is inching ever closer to breaking the all-time career homerun record. I also find many people believe I am racist because I cannot stand the thought of Barry Bonds breaking Hank Aaron's record. This cannot be further from the truth! I am not racist. However, I am a diehard Braves fan. I love the Braves and Hank Aaron. I also love the fact Hank Aaron set the record being 6' 0” and 180 lbs. in stature! Personally, I have recently found myself consulting with Ona Speedway as they expand their new wheelchair section. This is a big step for the physically challenged citizens living in rural West Virginia. I personally hope this will spill over into consulting with Cross Lanes Gaming Center as they expand their facility once table games have been officially introduced to our area. It seems to have been a good week for me, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Barry Bonds, but maybe not so much for Dale Earnhardt Inc. and Hank Aaron!
Munc- I just love the tone of your writing. It's like I am sitting right next to you and we are having a chat. You have a relaxed style and speak from the heart. I look forward to every Sunday around noon.
It's good to hear about the chair expansion. Although I was only in the chair for a few months, I understand your frustration. If everyone could just spend one day in the chair, they would never park in handicap spaces or use handicap bathrooms again.
I hope you have fun at the races...isn't it coming up soon? You will have sooo much fun....save a brat for me and a cold one.
Great post! :)
Thank you for your kind words. Yes, the race is June 16th and I am getting the red carpet treatment because of my consulting. So, looks like I'm going to be rubbing elbows with Dale Jr. and four other NASCAR drivers. That seems to be the easy part. Now, it seems all my difficulty is in finding a date! Hey, what you doing June the... well, never mind!
I'm sorry... I guess I wasn't clear... I just begin with one pot of coffee... usually one pot within the first hour and another pot around noon... and maybe one more... it depends on how busy I am... the harder I work, the more I drink! By the way, I haven't got to ask you -- did you drink at Talladega?
Umm...munc.....are you inviting me? Steelers had a helluva time keeping me under control, don't know if you could either! Yes I drank, and discovered Yuengling beer, thanks to Steelers. Not much of a domestic beer drinker, prefer Heineken, Pacifico and Bohemia, but I did love that Yuengling beer! You better blog from the race. :)
Awesome write for sure. I'm with Lisa.....siting on that porch and having that neighborly conversation. A huge congradulations for being active with that track as that is quite the honor. Make sure to get plenty of photos for us to blog with. Keep up with the great write, you can be our new Charles Kuralt.(A very great compliment)
Lisa, you're more than welcome to accompany me... I want you try to ride a article on your hillbilly experience -- was I right, are they the ones most enjoyable to be around? Wait a minute. You are married aren't you? I just asked out a married woman on a public forum? Well, there goes my campaign for the Board of Education!
Steeler,
My friend said to tell you he is a bigger Steeler fan than u!
Hi friend,
That's my informal style of saying hi to everyone on here. I am also a Steelers and avid sports fan as well. I am sorry to hear about your unfortunate accident but glad to hear you are doing well. Well I can walk and am not confined to a chair I do have a very mild disablity as well and I have played some wheelchair basketball which is a fun and competive game. Best wishes friend and hopefully we'll spend some time on that sports couch soon, Nice to know you and talk soon. fenfan67
Muncy, you are an incredible man. I think you speak from the heart and it shows in what is starting to be a loyal fan base for you. I've got the feeling, and if I'm wrong please tell me, but it seems you don't live for the sympathy that often accompanies certain people. I like that about you. You decided to live, not wait for people to wait on you hand and foot.
You ought to use your strengths to push bills throught the politicians for better help, better care, and the chance for making it on you own. Do it for others. Before my accident, I got upset when we approached the ODNR about restoring completely Ross Lake where I live. They thought I would stop just after a few e-mails. I got in touch with a House Rep who came over and seen the pictures of the thousands of dead fish, from blugill to largemouths. Once they kill all the aquatic life in the lake' IN ONE DAT", we had a massive die off of my guess was a katrillion fish. the lake is only 160 acres, but it's the only Lake in our town. read on ..................

...We pushed the ODNR to a Town Hall meeting, and unknown to them was the local tv stations, newspapers. We calmly let them have it. The showed they're facts from 10 years ago, very old data, and I show them personal surveys with thousands of signatures, pictures of all the dead fish.
Needless to say they gave in and appropriated 1 million dollars to renovate this lake with stocking, new handicap paths and many places for them to get to besides the dock. Solar powered lights, signs, and so muchmore. Also they put in bathrooms, made it kid friendly. I had a small vision, it became a big deal after that. WE got it done. It wasn't over night. As the president of this club who oversee's 450 members, I think they heard us.
Stay busy and find something that is your passion and challeng people to do the right thing.
I hope my PC Policewoman see's I 'm not what she thought. Go Muncy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Munc...hillbillies and #### are the most lovable people in the world. They really know how to have fun, and I am so glad I got to experience my first race at Dega. I don't think I would have had the same perception of Nascar if the race had been at Phoenix, Fontana or Vegas. It's a southern thing for sure. :)
PS...look at you climbing the boards! I knew you had it ya...I'm your biggest fan!
Thanks for the complements. I am involved with politics in my area actually. Running for Board of Education. Also, introduced two ideas to a local delegate last year, and although they did not become bills... they were dissected, and certain number of my suggestions were included in a bill that was passed into law by our Governor. It basically tripled the mandatory sentences for sex offenders in our state. Let me know if you have any other suggestions.
lmuncy316 .......... Just write away to your heart's content and wherever the spirit of the piece takes you. I kow at times I've gone several days without writing a piece altogether. And then all of a sudden I'll just come out and write several pieces on each of the blogs that I contribute to within the forum. Be it under the guise of tophatal, rampantfanatic or justanotherfan. I just do it for the fun of it ! And then I'll also look too see what others are writing about and try to comment on their pieces with some objectivity and with sound reasoning. A piece that'd had put up by someone about the death of Josh Hancock. I commented on and it drew someone's ire. As I'd stated that we shouldn't necessarily feel that his loss was any great consequence. As he'd brought it upon himself by drinking and driving. I'll have empathy or sympathy for someone who loses their life due to the fact that it wasn't their fault or if it was lost in a major conflict. But to ask me to feel sorry for someone who brings about their own demise by being foolhardy. Hell no you'll get no sympathy from me on that !
lmuncy .......... Dale Jr will end up with Richard Childress Racing. They're both attuned to each other's needs. And Dale will fit in easily with their way of doiing things. I can't see him going to one of the other higher profile teams. Althought it's not entirely out of the question. But it'll upset the apple cart with many of those teams especially if they've already got an established # 1 driver on their roster.

Well it looks as if Hendrick Motorsports has become the Yankees of NASCAR. And that probably has many of the other teams wishing that things could somehow be different. All of a sudden the tables and the playing field is no longer level.
Everything will now be set for HMS to clean up when it comes to the championship once next year comes around.

It's been a long time since we've seen or head anything from you within the forum.
Just chimin' all the same to make sure that you're alright.
Keep in touch !
I was paralyzed in an automobile accident on 2/13/91, only a few weeks after I had 33 rebounds in one basketball game! My sports career was cut short, but my life wasn't. Although, I no longer have a need to be 6'7". I'm now a 31-year-old, C5, quadriplegic. I am from West Virginia and love Marshall University. I'm a sports enthusiast, and blogging gives me something to do when I'm jones'n for competition. I would love to become a freelance sports writer. I guess my quest begins here. I invite you to follow along. Read my blog, and tell me what you think.
