San Jose hockey
May 05, 2007 | 11:57AM | report this

San Jose is travelling down the right and left boards to the tback of the net in game five so far.  Live action was thrilling if you are a Sharks fan.  I am surprised that the Red Wings have not forced the Sharks to the middle.  Especially Joe Thornton.  There he would be forced to shoot.  Detroit then should send two forwards to clog the middle and force a turnoover.

Also Detroit needs to get to the rebounds however after the shooter has taken his shot all the other White and Red jerseys are standing and watching the puck not going to it to put the puck passed the goalie.  Nabokov threw some juicy rebounds out for the Red Wings no put back only standing players on the Red Wings side during the first period.

You never give away the middle. That is what you always take away from teams, especially teams with snipers like the Sharks have. Just like the Rangers are doing to the Sabres. You let them have the boards and you clog the middle.

By the way, your first paragraph doesn't even make sense. You say take away the boards and let Thornton have the middle and then you say when Thornton is in the middle send two forwards to the middle and clog the middle.

You'd be a teriffic coach!

Seriously, your insight and knowledge is second to none.

Lgb i think what you wrote is good in some points and funny but the Wings won the series against the Sharks by taking away the middle and the boards. Thornton playing behind the net to set up Cheechoo was nullified by the Wings team defense in the middle in front of Dom and along the boards by Lidstrom and the other Wings defense.

And that was part of the game plan last night against the Ducks. IT works. Go Sabres out easT.
