Everyone who is a fan of the Big Ten, the Pac 10, and the Rose Bowl, please cheer for West Virginia and Missouri this weekend! Everyone who thinks the BCS is a joke, please cheer for West Virginia and Missouri this weekend! Screw it, everyone please cheer for West Virginia and Missouri this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, don't get me wrong. Both teams have had a great year, and I personally would like to watch those two teams in the BCS Championship game. But the Rose Bowl needs this game. College football needs this game! This is without a doubt the craziest college football year I've ever seen, and because Hawaii will not play in the Championship game, I don't think any team can fairly justify saying they undeniably deserve a berth in the championship game. So let's bring back the one thing the BCS is trying to get rid of, Tradition.
Of course Ohio State fans are hoping to slide into that #2 spot and play for redemption from last year's loss to Florida. And if they make it good for them. But USC is clicking right now, and I'd be willing to bet that the USC game will be a tougher game than either West Virginia or Missouri.
And while I'm at it, since the Associated Press is no longer a part of the BCS, let's just say that West Virgina and Missouri play a horrible championship game, lots of penaties and turnovers, and Ohio Sate just crushes USC in the Rose Bowl. They could still win a share of the national title, just like USC did in '04.
Then again, the way this year has gone, both teams will lose, Ohio State will get snubbed, and we'll have Georgia vs. Kansas in the Championship game. How great would that be? Two teams that didn't even make their conference championship game playing for the national championship!
Unbelievable! It is not the duty of OSU to salvage USC's season. USC does not deserve to play the Buckeyes. Michigan can stomp USC, Illinois can stomp USC, ..... The caliber of team USC deserves is of the Notre Dame level. Stanford beat USC, Notre Dame beat Stanford. Sell it to someone who will benefit from a USC v. OSU matchup and it ain't OSU unless you count the bowl money that we will get.
brian LSU would probably crush Mizzou so what's your point? This season anyone can be beat. Let's stop arguing on who can whip whose #### and just let the games play out.
I think the marketing theory goes that if you say it enough people will believe what you are saying even though it is obviously untrue. Example: How many times do you think the name"John David Booty" was mentioned on the tube in order to place him in the trophy race. Every time I heard that name i just wanted to puke. Well, no trophy for "John" and you might be able to sell USC as being the best team in the country to someone in China as a counterfeit. hehe. Fish here is tasty, I'm spoiled. I have lived all over Fla. and yes, I must deal with a brother who went to school in Gainesville. Actually went gator (literally) hunting when i was there. GO BUCKEYES!!
Just dreaming, and no offense anyone. I want OSU v. LSU in the NC game. If OSU won it would shut up that SEC mantra of having a tough schedule and if OSU lost, we can take it out on Les Miles every year thereafter by stomping Michigan. Oh well, just have to sit back and wait for Sunday.
Watch the NFL draft next spring. In terms of pure talent USC and LSU are the two best teams in the country. Execution, at times, has been another matter. USC isn't quite as good or as supremely alented as the '04-05 teams, but they have no excuses for losing to a Stanford team - whether the Cardinal played the game of their lives or not. That said, when they are clicking - like they were against ASU a week ago - they are scary good. With a month layoff and everybody healthy they would be supremely formidable. LSU has the talent to run with them anytime, but with the coaching circus going on in Baton Rouge who knows what the result of that game would be. If I had to pick a team to go play USC right now for all the marbles it would be Georgia, and if OSU ends up in the NC game that is likely your Rose Bowl game. The end result would likely be another split national championship like the 1997 Nebraska-Michigan split, the kind the BCS was supposed to prevent. As long as the national championship is determined by a beauty contest among teams with the softest non-conference schedules they can find you will have people complaining that teams in the NC game don't belong there. If teams have to actually beat the best teams college football can offer to get to a title game, you will get a lot less of that.
I think my Sooners beat Mizzou this weekend, but if Mizzou somehow ends up in the NC game I think it will be pretty entertaining. The over-under will approach triple digits...
The NFL draft won't change much at OSU. It is our rebuilding year. We lost most of our seniors last year. Next year expectations will be very high for OSU.
seattlebucknut, I'm with you that Ohio State is just as good if not better than anyone in the hunt for the championship game. The problem is this year there are so many people with valid cases to be in the game, it doesn't matter who wins, the country will be full of doubters and second guessers.
(BIG IFS) If Georgia somehow squeeks into the championship game and wins it, while Hawaii plays a BCS game and wins impressively, I would think Hawaii would have a right to complain. A 2 loss team that didn't even win its division as national champs, while the only undefeated conference champ doesn't even get invited to the game?
And before anyone freaks out, I don't think Hawaii is that good. I'm just giving out a hypothetical situation.
I would like to see a traditional old school Rose Bowl, because the BCS has proven (again) it doesn't work.
Hold up people. OSU will not be in the NC game. Why? It will be hard for WVU, MizzU, and LSU to all lose (as long as a normal college fball season takes shape) and we will take care of business in convincing fashion tomorrow with UCLA.
And as far as OSU "stomping" Michigan, only in your dreams and on video games.
As for our "caliber", come on out West and we can settle that. Florida showed the country how it's done last year, Illinois showed us this year. Michigan showed that the OSU QB is the weak point.
SC doesn't deserve to play OSU? Here's an idea: have that 'team' of yours come out west to the Rose Bowl and play us (USC). Let's see how well you do against a team with a winning record, a fast and great defense, a smart QB, talented WR's and RB. Does that sound like the Florida team last year? I only say this since most of the teams OSU has played have had #### records and have been weak non-conference opponents.
As a WestVa fan, I would much rather see WV vs Ohio State. Thats a championship matchup. Both have been top 10 teams the past 3 years & it would be a great game.
If that happens, the Rose Bowl would be USC vs Georgia. Still a really good game.
USC might lose to UCLA. Everyone seems to have forgotten USC losing to Stanford & barely scrapping out 3 pt wins to 4-8 Washington & 5-6 Arizona. They beat a terrible Cal team and an overrated AzSt team...they are great again. I disagree.
And HAWAII is garbage. They lucked out on a really bad pass int call to tie LOUISIANA TECH with 1 minute left. They won the game in OT 45-44 when LaTech went for 2pt conversion for the win.
To put that in perspective, LSU beat LaTech 58-10 & terrible CAL beat LaTech 42-12

brianblack...you can add mizzou to the list of teams "that mediocre LSU squad" would crush...if I were you I'd worry about those mediocre Sooners...sorry, Oklahoma will win and Georgia will play USC in the Rose Bowl...we can all be bored to death as OSU gets pimp slapped in the NC game again...
oalany, you still think LSU has a chance at the Championship game? Well, good luck with that....
shaolin74, Hawaii may have played a horrible La Tech team in a close game, BUT if they win their BCS bowl, and finish undefeated, they accomplished something nobody else was able to do this year. Sure they had an easy schedule, but the being the only undefeated team in college football is an argument for national champs. I don't think they deserve to be in the big game, but they do have a valid case.
I'm an avid sport fan, but I'm a college football fan first. I'm a Iowa Hawkeyes, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bulls, and LA Angels fan. I also love the UFC, and think boxing is a dying sport. I'm a horrible golfer, but I like to drink while driving a golf cart and the golf course is the only place that lets me do that. I live in Milwaukee now after living in Iowa and Long Beach, CA. And without a doubt, Wisconsin people are the undisputable kings of tailgating. Even Brewer games people tailgate like it's a college bowl game.
