08 Lakers if all goes right.
Jun 18, 2008 | 8:04AM | report this

The Los Angeles Lakers have just lost to the Boston Celtics.  You can pick a year when they have met and but for a couple of times the heading would hold true.  The only difference is that this years Lakers squad arrive a year early and saw what they lacked to be champions.  Mainly a defensive inside presence and a better defense up front.

Yes the Celtic took the championship, but not in a sweep which many that outside of Laker fans, but in 6 games.  The Lakers fought valently, but lack an intimadator in the middle.  Next year Bynum will be back and will continue his personal growth which saw him averageing double figures in points and rebounds beside blocking and forcing opponents to change their initial shot.

Rumors are the Baron Davis would like to play for another team but stay on the west coast, and for a team with a chance at the Championship.  ergo=Lakers.  He is a big fan of Kobe Bryant and Bringing him in would solve almost all problems this last Championship series presented the Lakers.

First off the Lakers would have an established scorer at point, which would free Bryant from double teams out side the key.  Second Iitwould also give the Lakers perhaps the best defensive front court.  Third it would bring an experience ball handler.  Fisher than could lead the second unit with Turiaf, Ariza, Farmar (Sasha) and who ever may be left that isn't traded or released or who came in on the draft.

The starting Lineup of Bryant, Davis, Odom, Gasol, and Bynum would be hard to match by anyone.   And to have Fisher leading the second unit would help cut down on the bad plays.   I would go so far as to Trade Radmonovich to Toronto whose seeking a power forward for Kopono in the event we lose Sasha to continue to have a 3 pt. threat.

With this one signing and one trade along with the release of various players would enable the Lakers to not only win the Championship, but insure the championship of a home for years to come.

The starting 5 is a dream. Baron Davis requires money which would probably mean the end of Lamar Odom in LA. Also I don't think Davis and Kobe can coexist being that they both like the ball in their hands and like to run the offense.

I actually think this team can't get much better. I amean the weakest part of their lineup was Radmonivic and he was only starting because Bynum was out. Rad is pretty good in the role of a 7,8,9th man off the bench.

They brought in shooters to spread the floor for Kobe so putting Fisher on the bench a Farmar down to third string would be counterproductive. I guess really the only place they can really improve is at the SF position with Odom. Maybe they make a move for someone like Michael Redd (to further stretch the floor) or Josh Howard (for defense) and slide Kobe over to the 3.

There are no teams that play defense in the West (except Spurs). Before the finals, all of you Lakers' fans already gave them the championship..praising Gasol, Odom, and Fisher on how well they operate in Phil Jackson's triangle.

But truth is, they finally met an EASTERN conference team that actually plays defense...the Pistons would've beat the Lakers too simply because the Lakers team defense sucks! They focused so much on "trying" to perfect the triangle offense that they forgot how to play defense.

Odom disappeared. Gasol is soft. Kobe never took over a game to help all of you argue that he's better than Jordan...no way!

Kobe should've guarded Pierce the ENTIRE series instead of letting Walton and the rest of his defenseless teammates guard him. He was unstoppable. Bynum would not have saved the Lakers. The Celtics were simply the better team and SHOULD'VE swept the Lakers had they all been healthy. The Lakers had no injuries...and Kobe's finger wasn't a factor either.

Now will all of you give the Hawks and ((LEBRON's CAVs)) for taking the Celtics to 7 games???

This is a cool idea if it would work. The Lakers don't have the money to pay Baron Davis unless they can do a sign and trade with Sasha, Mihm and Radmanovic going to the Warriors. I know that is an uneven trade but they wouldn't get anything for Baron if he left through free agency. I also had a trade idea in getting Duncan (which would only happen if the Spurs thought they didn't have a chance with this team).

Ifs, buts, candies and nuts. Yes, indeed, Baron Davis is an intimidating rebounder!

What is with the Baron Davis talk, I can almost guarantee he is not leaving GoldenState(you dont opt out of a contract that big- and I doubt Baron will). If he does opt out, which he wont. LA cant sign him, only way we could get Baron is if Mullin has eyes for Odom + a body... but lets be honest Baron has abetter post game than Lamar and baron is 6 foot 3 vers Lamars s foot 10.

I repeat 100% impossible to sign Baron Davis unless he is willing to take a 13 million pay cut.

Kobe Bryant and Baron Davis would be like oil and water, they wouldn't mix. Their wouldn't be enough basketball to go around.
