Athletes are forgeting where they come form. Some feel like they are above the law, others feel that they can step on the "little people" Still others forget that they are on camera most of the time. What happened to "Being Like Mike?" Who will step up to that role? Tiger, Kobe, Becham? Who will this generation "Wanna Be Like?"
Athletes like Pacman Jones or Roger Clemens, to name a few, should either Get It Together or Leave so that Sports can finally get back to Producing Positive Role Models, 'Like Mike'
#### Cheney shot a man in the face and the secret service kept the matter away from the police for hours, while they got yheir story straight. A week later the man who got shot apologized for getting in the way of Cheney's gun. Scooter Libby essentially committed treason and jeapordized the life and safety of a US foreign intelligence agent. He was convicted by a jury of his peers and sentenced to prison by a Federal Judge. He was then later pardoned by the President because he said Libby's sentence was too excessive. A civilian paramilitary style black ops unit "Blackwater" killed several dozen women and children in Iraq, 'by accident' after being scolded by a few senators and being asked to leave the country they returned to their old jobs two months later. Athletes don't even come close to committing the same atrocities that politicians and big business does. Give them a break.
Why I am opposed to Giving any Athlete A Break, in my initial blog about Character in Sports, is, we all grew up imitating Athletes & Stars. It was rare to see a kid that was interested in Politics. Athletes, Stars, Politicians and any Person that calls themself an Adult, should not be given a break, either. We owe these kids something. Mankind as a whole, should be held accountable. Not because this or that group does something wrong, it's O.K, wrong is wrong. Kids need to know this. They imitate everything they see, whether it's good or bad. Why not give them more good Role Models who Have Character? My kids are Looking at all Adults out there. They understand that Character Gives you a greater chance for a better Life.
Athletes should be treated like any other citizens. with no preferencial treatment. You are right wrong is wrong. that being said the flip side of that is that sometimes we expect them to not be human. case in point, Josh howard. Oh my God, he admited smoking pot on the off season, quick call in the Marines :o
good point CurlyMo, you forgot enron execs and oh ya Bennet (had to throw that one in for the sonic fans). Fox bleeped cheney's first name. lol
