HEY WHAT'S UP EVERYONE!!! IT'S KENRICK THOMAS, AND I HAVE A BOOK THAT'S COMING OUT. IT'S CALLED "NONSENSE IN SPORTS"
Sports has taken a fall, and I felt my voice was needed. Writing this book, helps everyone understand what sports really is. It shouldn't be about issues, performance enhancing drugs, and athletes getting into trouble. Sports should be about competition, and not about personal problems. There also many people that have thoughts, and opinions about topics. I voiced my opinion about it, and there all negative topics. That means sports has failed.
The Little League World Series has become a popular sport around this time of the year. It gets talk about, and seeing it on T.V. is expected by all.
Competition, that's what it's all about.
Winning the Little League World Series finals, that's what every kids dream besides making to the Major Leagues.
Many enjoy seeing these young children, and parents love watching their little children compete for one of the biggest achievements for children that are their age.
Cheering them on, seeing little children compete like no other.
Some people would say it's amazing seeing this children do something they love, it keeps them out of trouble and makes it easy for them to set dreams, and goals for their life. The view becomes clear for them in the future. Much more joy in their life then others.
The Little League World Series is getting serious, because it's getting close and close to what team is the strongest, most talented, and most of all the best.
This has been apart of television for a while, around this year people get ready to watch the Little League World Series. For them it's entertaining, and it gets more attention then some professional sports as well.
The Little World Series has done a good job drawing a huge audience to their sport, but Personally, I think it's a bad thing.
These children shouldn't be exposure to big name channels, and receiving a huge amount of attention at the age their at. Some people might say it's good, but it sends a wrong message to children.
Being invited to the ESPY Awards couple of years ago, and being televise on ESPN were everyone around the world is taking about these children.
Their going to get the wrong mind set, that their stars.
Why is this on television?, it's just little children playing baseball with teams across the world. I understand it's a big league, but these children shouldn't be on ESPN, ESPN 2, and others. That's to much for these children, seeing high lights of themselves on ESPN, it's just a bad message for them.
Were treating these children like their stars, and that's not good.
They probably have that mind set already, the way their getting all this attention.
This league is getting more attention then what it should be getting. We shouldn't be seeing these children on these big name channels, it brings to much pressure. Those young children shouldn't be receiving that much pressure at a young age.
Seeing them cry when they lose, and having to go home and see your team lose the most important game of their life. Being written about in the newspaper like their stars.
What's wrong with just having the Little League World Series on a local channel or a non-big name channel, like some high school games. It will be much better, because they wouldn't be receiving much pressure, and it will keep these young children humbled.
Seeing themselves on ESPN, and having the media asking them questions after the game. This could change these children attitude, and that wouldn't be good.
It's almost like when high school athletes get to much attention, because of their talent. Many think that can hurt them, having them thinking their the best. Then a lack of practice comes into play, and their level of skill starts to fall. It's the same thing with the Little League World Series, but their receiving more exposure then high school athletes.
After starting off the year struggling, and not being able to win any majors; Tiger Woods left with a win at the PGA Championship yesterday, making it his 13th major has he won. Struggling isn't new to Tiger Woods, because he has went through it this whole year. Being able to get through it, and stay confident was the goal.
He is almost a pro when it comes to dealing with these problems. Because he has dealt with them for the longest. For an example, the passing of his father Earl Woods was a set back as well, and being able to get back and dominate was a great achievement for Tiger Woods. When Earl Woods died at the age of 74, that was the most hurtful thing that happen to Tiger Woods, because the relationship between them two was bigger then father and son. Not having his father there to cheer him on, and not being able to give him a huge after every win was something that was hard to get over. Being the strong person he is, getting back on track was Tiger's goal and he did. It's only so long, Tiger can stay down because he is made to win. This is what makes him one of the greatest athletes of all-time, because of his will and passion to win Golf Tournaments.
Yesterday in the PGA Championship, Tiger Woods was in a similar problem. Not being able to be the dominating golfer he has been. And losing majors was something he found himself doing this year, but the win in the Firestone two weeks ago got him back to his winning ways. It made him confident, and he believe he can win the PGA Championship.
It wasn't a surprise to me, and it shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone else, because Tiger Woods isn't going to finish the year with a disappointing lost in the PGA Championship. He has the most talent on the golf course, and he is able to find success in any position you put him in life. His father past away, he was still able to bounce back. Through struggling times Tiger Woods will always get the win, it doesn't matter what happens.
There isn't any thing in this world that Tiger Wood can't overcome, because he has went through the worst. But his attitude always helps him find success, Miami Heat center Shaquille O'Neal said "He (Tiger Woods) is the most focus individual I have been around", that's what makes Tiger Woods the best. He is able to focus, and fight through pain and suffer.
He is willing to take time off to clear his mind, and to re-focus himself. Tiger Woods is able to take three weeks off, and come back focus and successful. It's going to be hard finding an athlete like Tiger Woods, because what he has done with his life is great. It's not a lot of people that can handle hard times like Tiger can, and thats makes him who he is.
"I kept telling myself going to the next hole that I need to bear down and get things done, place the ball correctly, But I'm still in control of the tournament. I still have the lead." said Tiger Woods. Being able to get through the competitive golfers that he was facing, and still being able to remain with the lead. Making others suffer, and for him to found joy is what Tiger's do to people.
"I'm intimidated by the fact that I have a chance to win the golf tournament, I'm not intimidated by any other person. I'm intimidated by the golf." said Woody Austin, who was beaten down badly by Tiger Woods who was hungry for a win. Making others mad his what Tiger Woods does in a respectful way.
"It turned into a great year, I felt like I've played well most of the year, and just didn't get it done in the first two major championships." said Tiger Woods. This did turn out to be a great year, because even though he wasn't successful at winning majors this year, but he was able to fight through the struggles and that shows how strong this athletes is. One is better then none!
The athlete that has all the fame, and the money. All on T.V. and everyone knows who he is. If you don't know who he is, then sports isn't your interested. Tiger Woods has done a lot for his sport, and it's questionable if golf would be entertaining to watch if it wasn't for this athlete. Success doesn't define his name, because he has done a lot more. Being considered one of the greatest athletes of all time has made Tiger Woods grateful, but humble as well. Never gives up, and always as the will to be the best. There isn't another athlete like Tiger Woods right now. Having non sports fans knowing who you are, and never watch golf before, says a lot for a person that's involved in the most unentertaining sport there is. Still being able to make money, and have so much that there is no worries. His performance on the golf course is the only worries Tiger has, because he is so successful that everything is taken care of. No selfish attitude, or problems way from the golf course, not even a steroid rumor. He follows the rules, "I hope" and always looks to get better as a golfer. You have to love an athlete like that; Tiger Woods is probably a bigger help to golf, then former Chicago Bulls star Micheal Jordan was to the NBA. There isn't a golfer that is better then Tiger Woods right now, and he is almost expected to win every golf tournament he is involved in. British Open, U.S. open, and others; it's safe to pick him through all the tournaments because he is cable of doing anything. Tiger Woods retirement days haven't come yet, but if he was to retire his career will be more then greatness, more then success, and more then the greatest golfer. Tiger Woods has one of the best legacy's ever, and the most important thing is he has a clean image.
There isn't any question that Tiger Woods is going to win ESPN Who's Now, because he has everything that is required. Fame, legacy, and popularity; Tiger Woods hasn't retired, and he is already one of the greatest. It's a blessing to have a career that this athlete is having, and seeing a man that is this successful means a lot to the sports world. Sports has become negative, and we are in need of more athletes like Tiger Woods. He never ran into troubles in his career, or has been involved in illegal activities (for what we know), and he always wants to get better as an athlete. Tiger Woods isn't just a great athlete, but what I seen he is a great person as well; we don't just need more athlete's like Tiger Woods, but we need more people like him as well.
Cleveland Cavaliers forward Lebron James has been having a great career in the NBA, for a person that young to find success that quick is great. Lebron James looks for greatness in himself. He is another athlete that stays out of trouble, with a clean image. Taking his team to the playoffs, and getting to the championship has been a big achievement for Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, and without "King James" the Cleveland Cavaliers wouldn't have gotten to the post-season. Facing the great Tiger Woods is a fair match up for ESPN Who's Now, seeing these two athletes go head to head has to be entertaining. Tiger Woods has the edge, but in the future Lebron James will be following in Tiger Woods footsteps.
Lebron James isn't going to win this match up, because Tiger Woods owns the sports world. But in the future Tiger Woods could be making room for Lebron James. This athlete has it all as well, great image. Good personally, good role model, and a leader. Lebron James is on his way; seeing this kid perform in high school was unbelievable, because it was surprising seeing a young star being able to do the things he was able to do. It's doubtful, that we will see another player like Lebron James.
It was all about the competition, and who can compete with who; winning the championship and what happens in sports is what fans were interested in. Making a turn is what sports has done, competition and who is the best is still in sports, but the biggest stories today aren't positive sports topics. With Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick getting involved in dogfighting which can end his career, Barry Bonds closing in on former Major League Baseball players Hank Aaron's home run record, and NBA commissioner David Stern dealing with gambling issues involving former NBA official Tim Donaghy. This news has been the face of sports, and it's going to continue through out the summer. Watching sports, and hearing nothing but Michael Vick, Tim Donaghy, and Barry Bonds has to be frustrating because some say they would like to move on from this. Sometimes it's hard being pounded with the same news, and it's not even about sports; hearing the drama that happens, and hearing athletes and others who are involved in sports being affiliate with illegal activities hurts sports and it's image. It's aggrieved that sports is going through something like this, because this is not what sports is about.
Athletes or who ever gives a bad image to sports shouldn't be able to be involved. Because it's hurting and changing what sports is about. There's nothing but drama, and negative news that is coming out of sports; it's suppose to be about winning, and competing but it's about athletes going to jail, and this person using performance enhancing drugs. Sports has been given a new image; right now it should be about what Major League Baseball team is going to make a trade before the trade deadline, or what NFL team is going to make the biggest impact on the up coming season, but it isn't. Michael Vick might be going to jail, Tim Donaghy career is over because of gambling issues, and did Barry Bonds use performance enhancing drugs? This news has filled the sports world, and it's been the same for the longest.
The athletes are to blame, because their given sports a bad image. Michael Vick, Barry Bonds, Tennessee Titans corner back Adam Jones, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry, and others. They have been a problem to what we call entertainment, and they shouldn't be allowed to get away with this. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has done a good job with his athletes, and making them pay for what they have done is what he is doing. I know, Adam Jones hasn't been charged with anything but there have been people saying he has been involved in troubling activities. Hanging around the wrong people, and not being able to play the next season; this problems has been bad for sports. Some would blame the media, but they have nothing to do with this; the media isn't fighting dogs, taking steroids, and gambling their just doing there job. The media reports news, and that is what there doing and the athletes are suppose to play and win, but sometimes they don't. Getting into trouble, and being involved in illegal activities is what some are guilty of.
It's distressed when kids look up to Michael Vick, Chris Henry, and Adam Jones; to see what they got themselves into is horrible. Children have to see what these athletes are involved in, and they get the wrong message. This has be to cleaned up, because children shouldn't be hearing about these negative activities; hearing about steroids, bog fighting, and gambling this should be something little kids shouldn't watching. There's children that know right from wrong, but seeing people that they look up to be involved in immoral action is something they shouldn't enjoy hearing about. Sometimes it isn't good for children to look up to these athletes, because nobody knows if there doing the right thing; I'm pretty sure everyone had a good image set in their mind about Michael Vick, but now that has change because of what he was involved in. Nobody knows who is a good athletes, but not every athletes is involved in illegal activities.
It doesn't make any since to be involved in something illegal when an athletes is making a load of money. If I was making millions of dollars I'm going to make sure that I'm going to stay out of trouble so I can continue to make millions of dollars. When athletes become big in there profession they have to understand that they become role models to others, and some might not want to be role models but they are. Staying out of trouble, and making sure your a good example for children to follow. This wouldn't just be good for young kids, but it will be good for themselves as well. Having a career like Michael Vick doesn't happen for everybody, so when an athlete becomes an icon they should make sure they do whatever is possible to continue to be successful in the future. It's possible that Michael Vick will never play football in the NFL ever again, and that is sad for a player of his stature. If Michael Vick used his brain he would have understand that making millions doesn't happen to everybody, and staying out of illegal troubles is something you have to do in order for that to continue.
There's athletes that are good role model to children, and that is great because we need more of these type of athletes in sports today. Sports has taken a fall, because it's all about drama issue and not what happens in sports. It's been like this for the longest, and making a change is something that needs to happen, but it all starts with the athletes. Etiquette has to change for these athletes, because it's getting out of hand. Hopefully sports will make a change, but it's not going to happen no time soon. There going to be more, and it might not ever change as well, but it's sad that it changed to this form.
If you take a deep look in the history of sports you will see that racism played a big role in the past. There were athletes that was treated wrong, and was being judge by the color of there skin. Going into different states were race was a factor, if you had a different color skin then most of the people that were living in that state it's possible a lot of negative attention was going to go your way.
It's clear that African-American athletes went through the toughest back when the sports world wasn't comfortable with a black athlete on a sports team, and a lot of that made the African-American community stronger as struggling people. If you take a look back and see what Jackie Robinson had to go through and others, it will crush your heart.
What happen in the past made sports what it is today. Now we have more African-Americans, Latino-Americans, and others in sports today and nobody will think different about it. It's great to see the sports world except African-American athlete and others.
Even though racism is becoming a non-factor in sports in this day and age, it's still floating around a little bit and someone should take a stand. It's not big were name calling is getting involved or disrepecting someone race, but you can still see it.
When you look at the amount of African American division one College Football coaches, it will make you think. Some say it's a major issue, and there's some people that think the amount of African-American College coaches will increase at the division one level. I do think race is a issue in this area of sports. The percentage of white athletic directors are high and some say that's the reason why we don't see a lot of African-American coaches, because the athletic directors likes to stick with there own kind. I think the number of African-American coaches will increase at the division one level, but the only reason why is because people see whats going on.
Some people say there's the same problem in Womens College Basketball according to others, but it will be great to see this problem be solve because if it doesn't then that sport will be look at different.
It's great to see what Hall of Fame Jackie Robinson did or the greatest boxer of all-times Muhammed Ali did for sports because they played a big role on why African-American are so successful in sports today. These athletes made a big impact in the African-American community and to little children across the country. What Jackie Robinson and Roberto Clemente and also Nate "Sweetwater" Clifton did to sports is something Michael Jordan, Barry Bonds, and Joe Montana will never live up to when it comes to meaning more to your sport.
To see these athletes go through so much to be able to succeed is a big achievment. It's great to see this and young African-American children can see this and get good feelings about there history. If you take a look in the black community, most of the time you will see fallure, people up to no good, and doing things to hurt other people. Martin Luther King was a big part of the reason why African-American got respect, and to see that type of stuff going on in the black community is just a set back for a lot of us.
It's great to see African-Americans succeed in the sports world, because it will bring joy to the black community, because they don't get to experience that success most of the time.
Racism has always played a big role back in the history of sports, and it's great to see us overcome that problem. If you look at the African-American athletes in todays world, you will see they played a big role in entertaining people at home. African-Americans have played a huge role in sports today, and sports wouldn't be as entertaining if it wasn't for Jackie Robinson leading the way for African-American baseball players, or Tiger Woods being the best in golf today, and Michael Jordan being considered as the best.
A lot of people wounder why we don't see African-Americans play Hockey, Nascar, and sometimes Lacrosse, but in this case it's not a race problem it's just how African-American grew up. In the black community we grew up watching basketball, football, and sometimes baseball and that's the reason why African-Americans don't really get involved in Nascar or Hockey. It's the same for the White community as well. It will be great to see more African-Americans play Lacrosse or Hockey and others, because it's good to open your mind to other sports, but on the other hand it's great to see sports succeed either way.
