Who Would You Throw Under The Bus? -- June 29, 2008
Jun 29, 2008 | 7:06PM | report this

It is that time of the week where you, Joe Six-Pack Fan, can call out those idiots, malcontents, ingrates, and general all around bad guys for their behavior that so pisses you off. Looking around the world of sports, there are PLENTY of sports figures that have earned the dubious distinction of being thrown Under The Bus this week. I have some sports personalities.

NASCAR

Juan Pablo Montoya: his tete-a-tete with Kyle Busch earned him a trip to NASCAR's equivalent of the principal's office, aka The Big Red Hauler. (Not to be confused with Big Red, one of JPM's sponsors) I will come correct on putting Kyle Busch in the Ugly category of an earlier blog, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. I will make up for it by throwing JPM Under The Bus.

Tony Stewart's Pit Crew: why on earth did they change two tires when they knew that rain was coming on the horizon? Especially when gas only was working. The crew cost Smoke a possible win. And as a result, Zippy and Company get thrown Under The Bus.

Jamie McMurray: I hate to do this to such a good guy, but I must. It appeared he had plenty of room to go around Dale Earnhardt, Jr. as Junior was entering the pits for his final pit stop. J-Mac plowed into him, tearing up his own vehicle and as he slid to the bottom of the track, he clipped his teammate David Ragan. Ragan lost control and hit the wall, ending HIS day. For being inattentive at an inopportune time, J-Mac goes Under The Bus.

NBA

Shaq: he dissed Kobe Bryant in a freestyle rap at a recent outing at a nightclub in New York City. The Big Chicken#### did this after last week's Who Would You Throw Under The Bus? was posted. Shaq's not escaping. Shaq, where were you when the Finals were being played? WATCHING IT ON TV, like millions of other Americans. Where was Kobe? PLAYING in the Finals. Shaq, grow the hell up. You won a ring without Kobe; give it a rest already. As if Kobe doesn't need any more motivation, this will fuel his fire even more to win a title without you. Shaq, and in the meantime, you get thrown Under The Bus.

Memphis Grizzlies: yes, you got O.J. Mayo. But you paid a pretty steep price to get him. You gave up Kevin Love, Mike Miller, Brian Cardinal, and another player. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves improved themselves by getting a fundamentally sound player in Love, a sharpshooter in Miller, and a couple of other serviceable bigs that will add depth to the Wolves' bench. When you allow Kevin McHale to fleece you, it will get you thrown Under The Bus every single time.

NFL

New York Giants: they got rid of the Hefty Lefty, Jared Lorenzen. They got rid of the WRONG QB. They should have got rid of Anthony Wright. For getting rid of the wrong QB, the G-men get thrown Under The Bus.

Houston Texans: it's going to take me a VERY long time to be able to root for this team again. They so screwed up David Carr while he was there he's shot mentally. They NEVER gave him a decent running game and a decent O-line while he was there. They allowed him to be a human pinata. Then AFTER they unceremoniously dump him in favor of Matt Schaub, they FINALLY work on building up a running game and an O-line. If the football gods are listening, the Texans won't win a Super Bowl while Robert McNair owns the team. In the meantime, the Texans get thrown Under The Bus.

MLB

Houston Astros: for allowing the Shawn Chacon/Ed Wade drama to reach new heights. This is one of the most dysfunctional teams in MLB. Drayton McLane needs to sell this team to a local group that WANTS to win. Chacon gets thrown Under The Bus for attacking Wade physically for refusing his orders/requests. Wade gets thrown Under The Bus for escalating the incident. Who's next?

TENNIS

Justin Gimelstob: he called Anna Kournikova a b***h and a #### and said some sexually charged remarks towards her involving his brother. Kournikova, to her credit, is taking the high road. Gimelstob, to his credit, took full responsibility for his remarks and apologized. However, you can't unring that bell. For his egregious lapse in judgment and for putting both feet in his mouth, Gimelstob gets thrown Under The Bus.

Ana Ivanovic: she lost early at Wimbledon. There goes LOTS of guys' reasons to watch Wimbledon in the first place. She's HOT. It wouldn't be so bad if she weren't the #1 seed. But she's the top seed and to lose in the second round IS reason to be thrown Under The Bus.

Those are my nominees for this week. Feel free to come on in with yours!

Who Would You Throw Under The Bus? -- May 18, 2008

It's that time of the week again! It's time to call out those sports figures that have so totally p****d you off you want to SCREAM! (Ashlee Simpson notwithstanding) Well, here is the forum in which you can call out those sports figures by throwing them under the Bus. I have a few nominations, so here goes!

NFL

Detroit Lions: for further pissing off some of their season ticket holders. Apparently someone in the Lions' front office responded this way to a complaint from one of their season ticket holders: "#### 'em." I'm always looking for a reason to throw the L.A. Clippers of the NFL under the Bus. Now I've found one. (NOTE: may have to write a written apology to the Clippers for lumping them in with the Detroit Lions. Clips, I apologize for lumping you in with the #### 'Em Lions aka the Detroit #### 'EM'S.)

Wal-Mart: the reason Wal-Mart is in this category is because they stiffed the Andre Johnson Foundation in two ways. First, they messed up the Texans' WR's order of 750 bikes that HE purchased to give to underprivileged kids. (There were around 675 bikes that ended up being donated as a result at the May 3 event.) And because of that order snafu, they stiffed the kids out of ice and water THEY HAD PROMISED. ICE AND WATER!! Sam Walton must be turning over in his grave. For stiffing the kids and messing up the order, Wal-Mart goes under the Bus.

NBA

Utah Jazz fans: this is for the moronic Jazz fans that chanted "Cancer!" every time Derek Fisher attempted a free throw and allegedly threw debris and trash at the Lakers' bench during Game 6 of their series. And they shouted "Refs SUCK!" when the Jazz were getting whipped. Don't blame the refs for your team's shortcomings. Congratulations, Utah. You surpassed Philly fan as the WORST fans in sports. Great job. Because of the morons that did this, you spoiled it for the rest of the Jazz fans. And because of the morons, Jazz fans get thrown under the Bus. I have ONE WORD for Jazz Fan: SCOREBOARD!

NASCAR

A.J. Allmendinger: for not even apologizing to Elliott Sadler after wrecking Sadler out of the All-Star Challenge, then he had the gall to win it! You'll get your comeuppance. Until then, you get thrown Under The Bus.

Those are my nominees for the week. Feel free to come in with yours.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly -- Week 17 Edition
Dec 30, 2007 | 9:21PM | report this

Around the world of the NFL faster than Andre Davis taking not one, but TWO kickoff returns to The House, Crappafoni Pictures presents, spaghetti western style, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, Week 17.

THE GOOD

New England Patriots: what more can be said? Perfection. 16-0. And the way they beat the Giants is the stuff legends are made of. Tom Brady got sharper as the game went on. But the playoffs are a totally different animal. The Pats better be prepared to win when they score in the teens.

Carolina Panthers: as has been a recent tradition under John Fox, the Cats went out and won their last game of the season on the road. Matt Moore was efficient, throwing for 174 yards and 2 TDs. DeAngelo Williams rushed for 121 yards and a TD. Granted, Tampa Bay was resting its starters after the first half of the game, but a win is a win, and the Cats will take it.

Washington Redskins: was that a DOMINATING defensive performance, or WHAT? The Skins defense held the Cowboys to one yard rushing. FOR THE GAME. Watching the game, I could sense the late Sean Taylor encouraging his mates; they played very inspired ball, particularly on defense. I saw the Redskins' D-line pushing the Cowboys' O-line around all game long. Now they're on to Seattle, and I think it's a very winnable game for the Redskins.

Green Bay Packers: they put an ####-kicking on the Detroit LLLLLLLLLLLLLions, plain and simple. They seemed to shake the hangover of the loss to the Bears from their systems.

Tennessee Titans: they got it done, on the road, in a hostile environment, minus Vince Young for the last third of the game. Granted, it was against the Colts' second and third string, but a win is a win in the NFL. Kerry Collins was sharp, keeping the chains moving, and extending drives. Now they're on to San Diego next weekend.

Atlanta Falcons: one of the rare times this season I've put them in the Good category. They did beat a playoff team, and scoreboard is everything in the NFL.

Houston Texans: or more specifically, Andre Davis. He returned two kickoffs to The House in a 42-28 win over Jacksonville. The Texans finished 8-8 for the first time in franchise history. The AFC South is the only division to have all four of its teams finish .500 or better.

THE BAD

Dallas Cowboys: one of the REALLY rare times (maybe the ONLY time this season) I've put them in the Bad category. They proceeded to set a franchise low for yards rushing in a game: ONE yard. Thirty-six inches. Three feet. That broke the previous low of seven yards set in 1998 against New Orleans. Tony Romo was not sharp. The Redskins' defense had a lot to do with that. The Cowboys' O-line was pushed around by the stout Redskins' D-line all game long.

St. Louis Rams: I know you wanted the season to end, but I didn't realize how desperate you were to finish it. They threw in the towel and were ready for their tee times. Now you're picking second overall.

Miami Dolphins: you were watching the back of Chad Johnson all game long as he was blowing by you. Ocho Cinco took a short pass and took it to The House from 70 yards away. You couldn't WAIT for the season to end; it couldn't end soon enough. Now comes the inevitable purging by The Big Tuna, Bill Parcells.

Detroit LLLLLLLLLLLLions: you, too, couldn't wait for the season to end. Ford Field will be a ghost town come tomorrow as the players can't leave fast enough. Many of them will be attending their alma maters' bowl games. Others will be taking a much-needed vacation. Still several others have played their last game in a LLLLLLLLLions' uniform, as they will either be released or leave via free agency.

THE UGLY

Kansas City at N.Y. Jets: this epic battle of bad teams was compounded by this game going into overtime. What, did neither team WANT to win?

Buffalo at Philadelphia: a 17-9 yawnfest played in rainy, chilly weather. It would be one thing if both teams were in the playoffs. But neither team is in the playoffs.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly -- Week 14 Edition
Dec 09, 2007 | 6:41PM | report this

Around the world of the NFL faster than two Will Blackmon returns for TDs, Crappafoni Pictures presents for you the fan, in living color, the NFL version of The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

THE GOOD

Green Bay Packers: they dismantled the Oakland Raiders in every aspect of the game. Will Blackmon was the special teams stud, returning a punt and a fumble for a touchdown. Blackmon became the first player since 1974 and only the fourth in NFL history to return a punt and fumble for a touchdown in the same game. The Pack amassed 445 total yards for the game and dominated the game from start to finish.

Jacksonville Jaguars: they were dominant in beating a Panthers team that basically gave up from the second quarter on. More on that later.

Dallas Cowboys' final drive: the 'Boys were lucky when Paris Lenon kicked the ball to Andre Gurode. If Lenon just falls on the ball, Detroit wins and gets put in the Good category. Lenon's colossal mistake gave Tony Romo new life, and he took advantage of it.

New England Patriots: way to shut up Anthony Smith! Tom Brady is now within a few TD passes of breaking Peyton Manning's single season record of 49. They went so far ahead of Pittsburgh that the Steelers became a one-dimensional team.

Seattle Seahawks: they looked sharp in dismantling Arizona. With five picks, the defense made several big plays, nothing bigger than in the third quarter after Arizona recovered an onside kick. They will be formidable in the postseason, regardless of where they play.

Indianapolis Colts: they are making this game look too easy. The first quarter isn't even over and they're winning 21-0 against the Ravens.

Houston Texans: simply put, they administered a beatdown to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. For some inexplicable reason, they do well against NFC teams.

Denver Broncos: I couldn't forget the Broncos' thrashing of Kansas City. They outgained the Chiefs 453 to 129. The Broncos rushed for 215 yards. They led in time of possession by nearly 10 minutes. They forced three turnovers and didn't commit a turnover. A complete game like that will get you in the Good category every single time.

THE BAD

Carolina Panthers: this may have been one of the worst games the franchise has ever played. They were outgained in total yards 457 to 149. The Jags had the ball nearly twice as long as the Kittens. They were so ineffective that Vinny Testaverde was pulled for Matt Moore. This is a team that gave up in the second quarter. I'd have granted that they would probably lose, but I expected a better effort than this!!

San Francisco 49ers: granted, they did lose to the Vikings, a playoff-caliber team. But they were THRASHED. And on their home turf, no less. FIVE turnovers?? Trent Dilfer was knocked woozy by a Vikings' defense that forced those five turnovers.

Miami Dolphins: 0-13 and counting. Three more and you make history in reverse!! Buffalo just did you again. And with games against New England, Baltimore, and Cincinnati, you just might do it.

THE UGLY

Kansas City Chiefs: this is one of those bad games that you just forget about and go on. Every team has one of those, except New England. I can imagine that the Kansas City Film Festival will supply the filmgoers with PLENTY of Maalox and Pepto-Bismol.

Pittsburgh Steelers: it started with Mr. Motormouth, Anthony Smith, guaranteeing a Steelers victory. Son, don't write checks with your mouth that your #### can't cash. There were several breakdowns in the secondary in this game.

Cleveland at N.Y. Jets: it seemed like the Browns wanted to let the Jets win this game. The Jets hung in this game FAR TOO LONG. The Browns should have won by AT LEAST TWO TDs. Cleveland was fortunate to escape with a win.

Carolina Panthers: see Bad category.

Those are my nominations for Week 14. Your nominations are appreciated. Thanks for reading and responding.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly -- Week 6 Edition
Oct 14, 2007 | 9:33PM | report this

Around the world of the NFL faster than the Goodyear Blimp, Crappafoni Pictures brings you the spaghetti western style of The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, NFL version. HERE WE GO!!

THE GOOD

Minnesota Vikings: they lit up the Chicago Bears’ defense to the tune of 444 yards of total offense. Adrian Peterson gashed the Bears for 224 yards on 20 carries and three touchdowns, including two of over 60 yards. Having a stud RB like Peterson doesn’t suck if you’re a young QB.

Jacksonville Jaguars:  they played a turnover-free game. Maurice Jones-Drew had another superb game, rushing for 125 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns. He also added four receptions for 59 yards. David Garrard was sharp, going 22 of 34 for 221 yards and two touchdowns.

Cleveland Browns: granted, their opponent was the Miami Dolphins. They did beat an opponent they SHOULD have. Derek (and the Dominoes) Anderson was sharp, going 18 of 25 for 245 yards and three touchdowns, all three to Braylon Edwards. With Jamal Lewis out, it was RB by committee. The Browns rushed for 140 yards as a team.

Green Bay Packers: their defense, to be more specific. Jason Campbell was pressured all game long. Charles Woodson scored on a 57 yard fumble return that proved to be the game winner. And for good measure, he intercepted a pass.

Carolina Panthers: the defense showed up for the first time this season, picking off three passes and sacking the QB twice. Julius Peppers accounted for 1.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. What can you say about Vinny Testaverde, except he’s an old man with game? Looks like his signing is genius so far. DeAngelo Williams rushed for 121 yards and a TD and Steve Smith had by far his best day of the season, catching 10 passes for 136 and a TD. The Panthers are 4-0 on the road this season.

New England Patriots: scoreboard says it all. Best team in the NFL right now.

San Diego Chargers: after a slow start, this team is starting to hit its stride. They dominated an overmatched Raiders team.

THE BAD

Miami Dolphins: 0-6 and counting. This team is HORRIBLE. They got thrashed by an average Cleveland Browns team. This franchise is in the throes of a death spiral.

St. Louis Rams: see Miami Dolphins, except substitute Baltimore Ravens for Cleveland Browns.

Seattle Seahawks: they looked absolutely PUTRID. THIS is a playoff team? ONLY in the NFC West. I could excuse the loss to the Steelers; the Steelers are one of the NFL’s better teams. But the WINLESS Saints?? I figured the Saints would win a game soon; I didn’t figure on them winning in Seattle.

Cincinnati Bengals: this team is bad on many levels. Sorry defense, lackluster offense, and poor coaching. It starts with Marvin Lewis. Once again, Lewis didn’t have his team ready to play. When will the good fans of Cincinnati start calling for his head?

Chicago Bears: this is a BAD team. Their defense is atrocious. Adrian Peterson gashed them big-time. Devin Hester was the lone bright spot, returning a punt for a TD and hauling in an 81-yard TD pass.

THE UGLY

New York Jets: NINE points against Philadelphia? While they only allowed 16 points, they ONLY scored nine! In the AFC East, it’s New England and the Three Dwarves. When will the Jets dump Chad Pennington and start Kellen Clemens?

Cincinnati at Kansas City: aside from Tony Gonzalez setting an NFL record for receptions by a tight end, it was unwatchable. Tony, we’ll see you in Canton. I watched a defensive clinic put on by Green Bay.

Houston Texans: or more specifically, their running game. They amassed 59 yards. For the game. Fifty-nine yards. That’s not going to get it done. No wonder David Carr was a piñata while he was in Houston.

NFL Week 2--The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Sep 16, 2007 | 7:47PM | report this

Here are my spaghetti western nominees for the Good, Bad, and Ugly, brought to you by Crappafoni Pictures:

THE GOOD

New England Patriots: as much as I HATE giving this cheating team their props, I must do so. They're making a mockery of the Chargers as I write this. They have become the team to beat. (BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!)

Pittsburgh Steelers: or more specifically, the Steelers’ defense. The Steelers’ defense held Buffalo to 50 total yards for the game. It was reminiscent of the Steel Curtain days of yesteryear. Mean Joe Greene, Jack Lambert, and the other members of that defense would be proud of today’s Steelers.

Cleveland Browns: putting up 51 points in the NFL usually requires two games. The Browns did it today. And against a defense that looked like it was going to take the next step in becoming one of the better defenses in the league. A HUGE win for the Browns.

Houston Texans: I have done a 180 on Matt Schaub. He was impressive. He took care of the ball, made good decisions, and didn’t commit a turnover. They showed remarkable poise even after being down 14-0 early in the game.

THE BAD

Miami Dolphins: or more specifically, Trent Green. He threw 4 interceptions against the Cowboys. If the Dolphins had signed Drew Brees LAST SEASON, they wouldn’t be in this bad of a situation. Green’s day has come and gone. Time for the Fins to go in a different direction.

Kansas City Chiefs: they actually put up a spirited effort against the Bears but still came up short. This is what happens when there are holes all over the roster.

New Orleans Saints: or more specifically, their defense. How can you be a Super Bowl contender when your defense gets run over to the tune of 31 points? And against a struggling team searching for an identity, no less? The Saints gave up too many big plays against the Buccaneers.

THE UGLY

Cincinnati Bengals: giving up 51 points to an anemic Cleveland offense? What was that all about? I figured it would be a close game, but that Cincy would pull one out. Ugh. Back to the drawing board, Cincinnati defense.

New York Giants: I only put them in this category because of the final score. They clearly are not the team they were a few years ago. It’s not all on Eli Manning.

San Diego Chargers: for all the chirping they've been doing all week, they've gone out and laid a HUGE egg. This was a chance to make a strong statement to the AFC and the rest of the league you belonged among the elite of the league. Well, you don't, at least not this week.

Come with your nominations, whether they be Good, Bad, or Ugly!

A Response To F88's Blog
Sep 16, 2007 | 12:16AM | report this

F88 aka AFormer88FanAgain picked Houston over Carolina. When I saw that I HAD to respond. This blogger doesn't have the Add a comment link active so I couldn't respond on the blog. Here is my response to one of F88 aka AFormer88FanAgain's picks.

While Houston has an improved defense, and they are improving as a team, they played the Kansas City Chiefs last week, the WORST team in the NFL. The Chiefs are capable of going 0-16 this season. They have NO QB (neither Huard nor Croyle is the answer), a horrible O-line, a poor WR corps (their best receiver is TE Tony Gonzalez), and a bad defense. Think 2006 Raiders without the terrific defense the Raiders had last season (#3 overall in the NFL).

The Panthers are not the Chiefs. They have an elite defense, sound coaching staff, a healthy offensive line, and a QB that has taken the Panthers to the Super Bowl. Oh, and they have Steve Smith if you need him. All Smith is is one of the most explosive playmakers in the NFL. And they have Julius Peppers on the defensive side of the ball. Peppers is a sack machine and he is athletic enough to drop back deep into pass coverage. Simply put, he's a BEAST. The Panthers' defense will have Matt Schaub running for his life.

MY PREDICTION: CAROLINA 27, HOUSTON 7.

P.S. You might want to allow comments on your posts.

NFL Predictions 2007--AFC South
Aug 09, 2007 | 8:52PM | report this

This is the sixth installment of my predictions/prognostications for the 2007 NFL Season. I continue with the AFC South.

AFC SOUTH

Indianapolis Colts: is Joseph Addai ready to shoulder the load of being the feature back? I think so. The O-line was jarred by the sudden retirement of Tarik Glenn, a well-respected team leader and protector of Peyton Manning. Expect Manning to be sacked more often now that there is a huge hole at left tackle. On defense the Colts lost several key members of their Super Bowl championship team. Fortunately they have young players ready to step in and ball. The Colts will be formidable, and a return trip to the Super Bowl is not out of the question. A lot of things will have to go right like they did last season for that to happen. They will have enough to make the playoffs but a return trip to the Super Bowl, while possible, isn’t likely. Predicted record: 11-5 (division champion).

Tennessee Titans: Vince Young emerged as the face of the franchise. It’s too bad he can’t play all of the skill positions at the same time. He lost a huge part of the running game when Travis Henry went to Denver. LenDale White still has attitude questions, not to mention showing up at mini camp nearly 20 lbs. overweight. Rookie WR Paul Williams will be a good addition to the WR corps.  On defense, CB Kelly Herndon was a good signing, as was CB Nick Harper. The Titans will have an improved defense. There are too many questions at the skill positions for the Titans to contend for the division title. If a RB emerges from nowhere and the WR corps overachieves, they could contend for a playoff spot. This team will take a small step backward. Predicted record: 8-8 (no playoffs).

Jacksonville Jaguars: this is another team with a lot of questions that have to be answered. Will Byron Leftwich regain his form of a couple of years ago? Will Fred Taylor stay healthy for a full season? Will SOMEONE from the WR corps emerge as a go-to receiver? Will the heat intensify on Jack Del Rio? I keep waiting for the championship-level Jaguars to emerge, but I’ve only seen it in spots the last couple of seasons. They lost one of the premier blocking TEs in Kyle Brady (to New England) and BOTH of their starting safeties from last season, Donovin Darius (to Oakland) and Deon Grant (to Seattle). Reggie Nelson will step in and play right away. There are too many questions for me to be sold on this team. Del Rio better start updating his resume on Monster.com. Predicted record: 7-9 (no playoffs).

Houston Texans: Matt Schaub? Please!! You’re basing the future of your franchise on a quarterback with TWO career starts?? I hope for his sake he took out an insurance premium with Lloyd’s of London because he’ll NEED it with a sieve of an offensive line. Ahman Green, while a great guy, is not the RB he once was. He has a lot of mileage on the tires. Andre Johnson is a stud, but who’s the WR opposite of him? The Texans wisely signed Johnson to a long-term extension in the off season. Big mistake in letting Jabar Gaffney go to the Patriots last season. I do have props for the defense. They will show improvement from last season, when they were finding their bearings as a unit. DeMeco Ryans emerged as a stud. Mario Williams showed improvement coming off a foot injury. The D-line as a whole improved. They will be even better with Amobi Okoye in the fold. His potential is off the charts. They also added veteran depth and leadership. However, too many questions on offense will keep them from showing greater improvement. Predicted record: 6-10 (no playoffs).

Panthers sign David Carr
Apr 06, 2007 | 10:31PM | report this
When I heard the news that David Carr was signed by the Panthers this morning, I was elated. I'll put my excitement and elation aside for awhile. The signing of Carr by the Panthers will greatly benefit both Carr and the Panthers. The Panthers return 21 of 22 starters on both sides of the ball. The O-line is MUCH better than the Texans' O-line. Carr will benefit both physically and emotionally by being on a winning team that is only one year removed from playing in the NFC Championship game against the Seattle Seahawks, and three years removed from the franchise's only Super Bowl appearance. The Panthers EXPECT to win and have built a culture of winning, last year notwithstanding. Carr will also benefit from not having his #### handed to him on a weekly basis. The Panthers benefit by signing a good QB as a quality backup to Jake Delhomme.

David Carr and the Houston Texans
Apr 01, 2007 | 9:47AM | report this

Now that David Carr is no longer with the Texans, it seems to this writer that the Texans are laying all their woes at the feet of Carr. While Carr shares some blame, a majority of it lies with their personnel department. Why didn't they surround Carr with a strong O-line? Or a quality RB? Why didn't they draft Reggie Bush last year? Bush would have gone a LONG way towards solving some of the Texans' woes. While I don't fault Charley Casserly for drafting Carr, he should have had a veteran QB in place and had Carr learn under the veteran. Now they replace Carr with Matt Schaub? Schaub is only slightly more mobile than an oak tree. Hope you can find some good doctors in Houston, Matt. You're going to need all their expertise, especially since the Texans employ matador protection schemes. (Hmm, I wonder if it's true they yelled, "Ole!" when Carr was sacked? Just a thought.)

Now my next question: where will Carr end up? I have a few teams off the top of my head that are interested or intriguing:

  • Carolina: Carr has a visit scheduled with the Panthers sometime next week. He would be an intriguing option for the Panthers backing up Jake Delhomme, especially since Delhomme is considered to be on a short leash. One note: Joey Harrington also has a visit scheduled with the Panthers. As a Panthers fan, I hope the team signs Carr.
  • Seattle: the Seahawks are also on Carr's short list. Potentially, he could recover mentally and learn from Mike Holmgren and Matt Hasselbeck. Holmgren can develop QBs (see Favre, Brett and Hasselbeck, Matt). He can heal up physically and mentally while in Seattle.
  • Cleveland: Carr would be an immediate upgrade over Charlie Frye. Signing Carr would allow the Browns to draft Adrian Peterson, possibly Joe Thomas or quite possibly Calvin Johnson.
  • Oakland: Carr would be an immediate starter with the Raiders and at #1 they could skip JaMarcus Russell and draft Calvin Johnson. They also could draft an OT in the second round; there will be some quality OTs in Round 2. With a great draft and Carr at QB, the Raiders could be a playoff contender. And don't forget, Lane Kiffin's forte is offense. Wouldn't that be interesting, one former Fresno State QB coaching his former college teammate?
  • Jacksonville: I threw that one out as an opportunity for Carr to stick it to the Texans twice a season. While the Jags don't need a QB immediately, they are not exactly sold on Byron Leftwich.

The team that eventually signs David Carr will get a quality QB and a quality man and will immediately be a better team. Stay tuned.

ABOUT ME

jon_464
I am from Central California. I am passionate about sports, particularly the NFL and NASCAR. My favorite teams are: Panthers (NFL), Lakers (NBA), Flyers (NHL), and Dodgers (MLB). I am also a Kevin Harvick fan in NASCAR. I am a Fresno State honk. (I'll admit it!) And I am also a fan of MMA. Jackie Robinson to this day represents what is right about baseball. I also enjoy discussing the relevant (and sometimes irrelevant) issues of the day pertaining to sports. I will never understand why televised poker is so popular. Who wants to see a bunch of people sitting around a table, muttering to themselves? I do my best to keep politics out of my sports discussions. That is why I recently created a nonsports blog, cencalscribe.
blogspot.com.
That is where I post my nonsports topics.
