It's that time of week again. The time of week that you, the Joe Six-Pack Fan, get a chance to vent your ire at a team, individual, coach, league, or anything else related to sports by throwing them Under The Bus. Without further adieu, here goes.
NFL
The Brett Favre Saga: is there anyone else besides me that is tired of all the drama? There is enough blame to go around there. Ted Thompson made a HUGE mistake in basically telling a legend he's not wanted in Green Bay. Thompson should have told him to take his time and if you feel like coming back, you're our starter. Ted Thompson gets thrown under the Bus, the media get thrown under the Bus, and Favre gets thrown under the Bus for flip-flopping.
"Pundits and Fans" that dismiss the Carolina Panthers: I would NOT sleep on the Panthers this year. Jake Delhomme looks like the Delhomme of old, the Cats had an excellent draft, and they picked up some key free agents. Jonathan Stewart is going to be a beast and he'll fit perfectly into the Panthers' power running game. The defense will be much improved. The "pundits and fans" get thrown under the Bus.
MLB
Oakland A's: they were still in contention when they traded Joe Blanton to Philadelphia for three minor leaguers. They have effectively waved the white flag. They have become the France of the MLB. In the last year, they have traded Dan Haren, Rich Harden, and Blanton. That’s three-fifths of an outstanding pitching staff. A LOT of teams would kill to have those kinds of pitchers and that staff. Now comes word that the A’s are considering trading stud closer Huston Street. WTF? The ownership should be ashamed of themselves. Charles Finley would NEVER have waved the white flag. He’d have never traded Blanton and Rich Harden; instead, he’d have found what he needed and filled those needs. I hereby throw the A’s small-minded ownership under the Bus. If I'm an A's fan, I'd be ROYALLY PISSED.
Alex Rodriguez: he left the All-Star Game early and didn’t support his teammates as the game dragged on and on and on. Derek Jeter stayed and supported his AL teammates. So did Mariano Rivera. I find it kind of funny the game lasted 15 innings and very few, if any, people showed up to Rodriguez’ party he was hosting after the game. Would Willie Mays or Bob Gibson have left an All-Star Game early? I don’t think so. A-Rod goes under the Bus.
NBA
Alonzo Mourning: he gave a benefit for charity that only raised 30 cents on the dollar due to the influx of celebrities and their perks. Sounds to me it was an excuse to party. Non profits that donate 70 cents on the dollar is considered efficient as per the IRS. But 30 cents? Hmmm, something fishy here. While I won’t throw him under the bus for wanting to raise money for charity, I will throw him under the bus for the inefficiency of his charity.
AUTO RACING
Danica Patrick: her act is getting old and tired. She was involved in yet ANOTHER confrontation, this time with Milka Duno. A cat fight. The IRL should seriously consider parking her and her team for a race. She can get away with this #### because NO ONE in the IRL has the BALLS to stop her. Someone should sit her down and tell her, "Next time this happens princess, you're getting parked for a race." Duno should have ####-slapped Patrick and IRL look the other way. Her #### is ####-slapped under the Bus.
GOLF
Michelle Wie: just when I was starting to buy stock in you again, you pull some boneheaded #### like forgetting to sign the scorecard and getting DQ'd while you were in contention for your first win. A good finish would have comfortably put you in the top 80, meaning an automatic LPGA Tour card and not having to rely on sponsor's exemptions. There is NO excuse for forgetting to sign your scorecard. WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING? At the very least, you learned a painful and expensive lesson. Maybe being introduced to the tire tracks of the Bus you're to be thrown under will serve as a reminder NOT to forget TO SIGN YOUR SCORECARD!!!
WestSeattle, I think that's a great idea about keeping the Panthers under the radar. I think I will.
Hanahan, I've gotta get that bus custom risen. Predicting an NFC South winner is a #### shoot at best. If the Falcons' defense rises up and the offense takes off, it could happen. They are improving, but still a year away at best.
Not only would I throw Mourning under the bus for some of the least efficient charity "work" there is, I throw him under the bus for "parties" for the celebrities who "volunteer" themselves.
I throw Lebron, Dwade and every celebrity/athlete who got first class air tickets, hotels, parties, limos as "reimbursment" for doing "charity work". Where did the charity part come in? UNDER THE BUS!!!
May I suggest a new category: Throw Mourning and all the celebrity athletes who don't make enough money to pay their own way to/at a CHARITY EVENT under the bus and then...stop the bus...back up and drive over them again.
jon'
If Wie were stock then she'd be junk bonds as to would Danica Patrick. And with her inane rant stating that this latest incident would've been overlooked had it not been for her popularity. Bi##h all you've done since entering the sport is to win one damn race and bare your a##. Now I'm just like the next guy one can never get enough females baring their a##es if the junk in the trunk looks right.
But for Patrick herself her act is now getting stale ! Either she gets with the program and goes out and win races . Or just shut the hell up once and for all.
She can't have it both ways trying to act all innocent and at the same time be a pain in the a## to her fellow competitors.
As for Mourning and Wie , the less said about those two the better at this juncture.
Amen to A-Rod getting thrown under the bus. I saw an interview where he said so much about his love and respect of the game. Baseball is like...my fifth favorite sport and I think the steroid issue has destroyed my respect for the game(not because of who was doping, but because it was a guilty-until-proven-innocent witchhunt.) And even after all that, I would have stayed at that entire game. What does that say about A-Rod's "love of the game?"
Danica...*sigh*...You suck at racing. You are the reason men make jokes about women not being able to drive. Just go do p-o-r-n. You could use a good #### to put your snobby #### in your place
Jon; I got to give you the wheel, great picks this time, i dont know where to start? Danica and A-Rod should just go out and get GoodYear tattooed on there #### to save some tread for others deserving of the bus treatment. Both of their acts are past the point of tired.
The A's, i dont think they had enough strength in the lineup to go at the Angels or a wild card for that matter, but your wright, they could have went shopping for bats to compliment, what could have been one of the better staffs in base ball, instead of giving away the staff.....
I also see where you and i are on the same page when it come to Brett Favre. He resurected this team, got them back to the Super Bowl, while becoming one of the best ever and the Packer Brass has allianaited themselves from there fans completely.
You leave me with nothing!! Maybe i can throw Joker or Hanahan under the bus!!
Byte, good idea. I'm sick of these athletes getting perks to pimp some charity that's ineffective in its giving.
Tophatal, both Wie and Patrick are officially irrelevant. As for Mourning, SHUT UP ALREADY!
IowaGirl, it's gotten tiresome.
TW, A-Fraud LOVES the money he's getting paid. If he loved the game as he says he does, he'd have stayed and not had the party. As for Danica, hell yeah I'd hit it and quit it!
Forensic2, I've also lost respect for Danica as a driver. It would be one thing if she wins a few races a year. But she's won exactly ONCE. She does look hot in that swimsuit.
B@O, thanks. The A's probably don't win the division anyway, but they were an above .500 team before the trades. Don't forget they got rid of Nick Swisher and Marco Scutaro, two heroes of their 2006 postseason. Practically all of that 2006 team is gone. They're doing things back #### wards. LOL@throwing Joker or Hanahan under the bus!
Big_Spider, thanks. She seems to be an attention ####. She's seeking attention so fans won't focus on her shortcomings as a driver. Thanks for the read and the props.
Good one this week Jon. I cant disagree with much at all...I would be totally pissed if I was an "A's" fan...I have there pitching staff in fantasy baseball and they are basically useless now...Thank goodness the Mets pitching has stepped it up as of late or I wouldnt be leading the Wild Card race right now.
Question: Why do celebs at a charity function need perks? I pray I never get that elitist.
Dezz, in 2006 the A's were THAT CLOSE to contending for the World Series. They lost the ALCS that season to a better Detroit Tigers team. They had GOOD young pitching AND hitting. They needed another power hitter and bench depth. Had they gone out and got them, and kept the core of their team, they WOULD have beaten the Red Sox in the ALCS and possibly won it all. Now they won't be contenders for the next SEVERAL years, 2012 at the earliest. It's going to make for some long, lean years in Oakland.
A-Rod keeps stepping in it. He'd step in dog #### even with a built-in dog #### sensor designed to keep him away from it.
Yeah, your right...duh. Big Tigers fan here. I had forgotten that they let Big Hurt and Milton Bradley go the next year! Makes no sense whatsoever...maybe they are trying to be the Marlins of the AL.
Dezz, maybe they're waiting until Cisco Field opens in the next couple of years. That's the new stadium the A's are moving into. It's supposed to seat around 41,000. They're betting that they'll become contenders at that time. They won't be, at least not for a couple of years after that.
The Big Hurt had a great year the year he was with Oakland. He looked like the Big Hurt of old.
I am getting so sick of hearing about this Brett Favre drama.
Is he going to come back. Is is going to stay retired. My thought is hey Brett, make up your mind. You are 40 something now. Not many 40 something get starting positions. Especially after they leave their starting position. I say throw Farve under the bus for retiring in the first place.
Good pick on our Panthers Jon. I see everyone is sleeping on them even in here. Yeah last year was a fluke in the NFC south. Carolina went 7-9 with 4 diffrent QB's not to bad considering. The Saints 7-9 with a healthy QB & Reggie Bush couldn't get it done but have added major pieces that should get them over the hump to battle Carolina for the division. Tampa Bay with their ancient D & Qb won the division last year since they had more veterans. Thats not happening this year. The Falcons also lost Mike Vick that could beat you single handly by running for 200 yards, which that does make the Falcons bottom dwellers. So sleep away on them guys thats the way we like it out here. The less media coverage the better they play. Here is a stat for all that hate. From 2002-2007 the NFC south had a team make it to at least the NFC championship game. So sleep away.
As for Danica Patrick I'm not a racing fan at all but I could think of a lot better place to throw her than under the bus.
I am from Central California. I am passionate about sports, particularly the NFL and NASCAR. My favorite teams are: Panthers (NFL), Lakers (NBA), Flyers (NHL), and Dodgers (MLB). I am also a Kevin Harvick fan in NASCAR. I am a Fresno State honk. (I'll admit it!) And I am also a fan of MMA. Jackie Robinson to this day represents what is right about baseball. I also enjoy discussing the relevant (and sometimes irrelevant) issues of the day pertaining to sports. I will never understand why televised poker is so popular. Who wants to see a bunch of people sitting around a table, muttering to themselves? I do my best to keep politics out of my sports discussions. That is why I recently created a nonsports blog, cencalscribe. blogspot.com. That is where I post my nonsports topics.
