Who Would You Throw Under The Bus? -- June 1, 2008
Jun 01, 2008 | 8:23PM | report this

It's that time of week when you, the Joe Six-Pack Sports Fan, have every right to call out those idiots, ingrates, and general all around #####$ for their stupidity and arrogance. Time again for you to throw the object of your ire in the sports world Under The Bus. I have a few figures I'd like to throw Under The Bus.

NFL

Dallas Cowboys: this is a neverending soap opera with this team. T.O., Jessica Simpson vis a vis Tony Romo, now Pacman Jones. I suspect Jerry Jones is itching for a lockout in 2011. Yes they'll have a state of the art stadium in Arlington soon. Us non-Cowboys fans are frankly sick and tired of the whole thing. The Cowboys' soap opera gets thrown Under The Bus.

New England Patriots: Spygate won't go away. This is another team that thrives on high drama, particularly with Bill Belichick vs. the world. You used to be a team that people could get behind. Now you're perceived as cheaters. Please, save the drama for your mama.  Until then, the Patriots get thrown Under The Bus.

Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA): he wants Congress to punish the Patriots further. Senator, do us all a favor and INVESTIGATE WHY THE DAMN GAS PRICES ARE SO FREAKING HIGH!! Then do us all a favor and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! AND GET OUT OF OUR SPORTS!! Sen. Specter and ALL OF CONGRESS get thrown Under The Bus for being a bunch of do-nothing BLOWHARDS!!!!! Is it any wonder Congress' approval ratings are in single digits?

NBA

Joakim Noah, C/F, Chicago Bulls: he was in Gainesville kicking it when an officer spotted him holding an amber-#### drink, a violation of city law. At the police station, tree was found on him and he was promptly arrested. What the hell are you doing back in Gainesville? You shouldn't be back there unless there is a reunion of the Gators' national championship teams. You're an NBA professional now. At the very least, you're guilty of egregiously bad judgment. For your bad judgment, you get thrown Under The Bus. UPDATE: he accepted a deferred prosecution agreement, resulting in a fine and probation.

Rasheed Wallace, C/F, Detroit Pistons: his act has gotten old and tired. He had a HORRIBLE night when the Pistons needed him most. He single-handedly cost the Pistons a chance to win and force a Game 7 in Boston. My prediction: he won't be back with the Pistons next season. He is supremely talented (a definite top 3 talent when he's on) but disappears at the most inopportune times. Now the Pistons are going fishing for the summer. But before he goes fishing, Rasheed Wallace gets thrown Under The Bus.

NASCAR

Denny Hamlin: WTF was he thinking when he was going full speed on Lap 17 after the wreck was about to stop? He escalated the wreck and knocked himself and Elliott Sadler out and severely damaged SEVERAL other cars that were in the top 12 in points coming in. IF NASCAR had any BALLS, they would park Hamlin AND HIS TEAM at Pocono. He was driving with his head so far up his #### he could see out of his mouth. For being a blithering #### and driving dangerously, Hamlin gets thrown UNDER A FLEET OF BUSES.

Those are my nominations. Feel free to come in with yours.

I'm am taking a big ole bus and throwing Greg Biffle under for punting Landon Cassill in the NNS race. After all the Cup guys posturing about 'give and take' after the Denny-Brad-Jr. debacle last weekend, the Biff feels the need to drop kick the young rookie. Sheesh. And they wonder where these young guys learn it from.

Bill Parcells and the Miami Dolphins for alienating Jason Taylor who has been the most productive pass rusher in the league for a while now.

He went on Dancing with the Stars, so what?
He skipped voluntary work-outs, so what?
What has he really done?

From day 1 Parcells wouldn't even acknowledge him by his name. There are plenty of slime balls in the league deserving of this treatment and more than enough slackers on the Dolphins own roster for Parcells to get his rocks off. To single out one of the true class acts and hardest workers in the league is just foolish.

As a Cowboys fan I must say I am disappointed in the win at all costs mentality that Jerry Jones is exhibiting over that last couple of off seasons. Bringing in low lifes like Tank Johnson and Pacman Jones is toxic to the team chemistry of good guys like Greg Ellis, DeMarcus Ware, Tony Romo and the like.

For the record, I don't think T.O. is of the same mold as Pacman and Tank. Sure he has is ego but so do 90% of WR's in the league. My view of T.O. took a 180 when the guy not only played with what was essentially a broken ankle but was the most productive player on his team during Superbowl XXXIX.

Well, we sure don't want you non-Cowboys fans to suffer because of the drama in Dallas. You know, you can avoid that fatigue you speak of in one simple way. Just ignore it. But you won't. Anyone who writes a column about throwing people under the bus obviously enjoy the drama way too much.

You know as well as anyone that SOMEONE was going to take a chance on Packman. I have to wonder if you would be as upset about it if it was not the Cowboys. Let's say your favorite team. I imagine you would find some way to excuse it, cross your fingers, and hope for the best, just like Cowboys fans are doing.

Perhaps the fact is that you non-Cowboys fans are just a little worried that Pacman just work out with the Cowboys and make them better.

After all, look at it this way. If he blows it, he will be history. If he gets his act together think what the Cowboys will have.

Do you remember back in the Michael Irving days? The Cowboys had gone through a series of bad publicity events to say the least. Jones was desperately trying to "clean up" the Cowboys image. So in the draft, he passed on a receiver who had recently had a character issue arise. A player named Randy Moss. I think he has regretted it ever since and is determined now to go with his instincts and what will help the Cowboys, not what will please the media or the non-Cowboys fans.

The guy I'd like to see thrown under the bus with the driver actually reversing back and forth over his #### would be Jerramy Stevens of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Any guy who takes great joy out of sexually assaulting a female college student and then has the temerity to brag about it to his college dorm mates. Is most certainly deserving of some measure of retribution.
Never mind that he's had other scrapes with law enforcement since his arrival into the NFL. What's even more astounding is that the Bucs have sought to re sign him to their roster considering those infractions and other since then.

jerramy.stevens

She wanted a piece of the Stevens so I gave it to her. Jerramy Stevens (r) of the Bucs.
Jon Gruden and Bruce Allen of the Bucs have a great deal to answer for at this juncture.

Camp Cowboy is relatively calm and you want to throw the franchise under the bus? Don't be hating. And Jerry Jones is the last one alive who'd welcome a lockout or a capless 2011. He's the most astute business oriented money making owner in the league.

Oh yeah - You're NFL front page linked, congrats! Good for about 15,000 hits a day.

Jon, big agreement on Sheed, turns out he was late for early morning shoot around that day and he didnt get into his usual routine that the Pistons do before every game where he dances like a mad man and they gather around him in a circle to get amped up.

He is their emotional leader and he quit on them, for reasons I can only assume that have to do with his complaining about refs calls and basically saying its all staged for entertainment value.(25K fine!)

We would not have won our 2004 title w/out him, but these last two ECF we have lost his attitude & behavior were detrimental to the team. Just like his inabilty to realize that 32% from behind the arc is awful!

Jon would normally agree with you on Specter, but I read something that changed my mind.

Congress actually does have good reason to get into these cheating scandals in baseball and football. The reason is these leagues are exempt from anit-trust laws, where most other industries are not.

These leagues are given special treatment, so when theres a scandal, Congress is almost forced into action...though I agree, Specter is ####, hes one of those politicians who has switched sides b4...he used to be a Dem.

Jerramy Stevesn deserves a lifetime pass underneath the bus. Another story of a pampered athlete allowed to live with different rules than the rest of us....it didnt help that he went to Washington when shadeball, lives in the grey areas Rick Neuhisel was the coach! Rick gave Stevens a one game suspension for assault! Sleezy is eazy!

I would like to throw both Bill and Hillary under the bus, together! I watched a show about Porked and Earmarked programs allowed in congress, in other words (unethical) behavior, and it seems that the only way out of this is to execute the whole lot and start again. I never thought I would want to see a violent overthrow of our government, but with what is allowed and condoned by the insiders, Bush, Billary, Obama, McCain and all the rest, we need to get out the guillotines again and start over, ala France, starting first with the lawyers, then the bankers and finally the politicians

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Stick a fork in him, he's done. The news conference garbage is too much.

I throw ESPN under the bus for showing RERUNS of softball games during peak hours! Get real! Show us some Bass Fishin' next.
Hey Jason, Hollywood has enough former jocks who can't act. Kiss your wife's behind and beg her and the kids to take you back. You ain't that cute!

Kelly, I agree that Vista needs to be thrown under the bus. That's why I'm looking at getting a MacBook Pro.

Texasbagger, Parcells is always a good candidate! And I don't think you're alone re the Cowboys' win at all costs mentality. You're right, T.O. has never been in trouble with the law, he takes care of himself, and I think he's maturing. Still carries some drama, though.

Spurcse, I'm giving fans a forum to vent their anger and frustration. I do remember the days of Michael Irvin. It was Tom Landry that drafted him in his final draft with the Cowboys in the spring of 1988. Jerry Jones brought in Irvin's college coach at Miami, Jimmy Johnson. I get that he's trying to win, but IMO he's going about it wrong.

Tophatal, Stevens is a punk. Pure and simple. Good choice for a rubber sandwich.

Loismustdie, refreshing to hear from a Pats fan that's fed up with what's going on with their team.

Midnite, I had to throw the Boys under because I'm fed up with the drama that the media force feeds down our throats. As soon as they stop the drama, I won't throw them under.

Dezz, he was invisible throughout the series when the Pistons SORELY needed him to step up. I don't like government intervention in business and in sports. What these sports need are strong commissioners that won't kowtow to influential owners. And Stevens should have a steady supply of rubber sandwiches.

BN, he is hereby thrown under!

Courtney87, Pac and Marvin are hereby thrown under!

Lisa, you could have suited up the Invisible Man and he'd have given you 15 and 10 each night!

b@o, Willie is hereby thrown under! Good series win against my Dodgers.

BN, they are hereby thrown under!

Husker, Jason Taylor and ESPN are hereby thrown under!

Hook, we'll throw him under together!

I'm going to have the throw Maria Sharapova Under the Bus. Sure, she's a babe, and unlike some of the other babes, she's style and substance because she wins. But you don't go in as the No. 1 player in the world and get beat by a No. 13 nobody but avid tennis fans have heard of. Maria choked so hard her tongue had to have dropped past her chin. She blew a huge lead and just tanked, probably because she got cocky. So Maria, you should be thrown Under the Bus. Being hot doesn't save you on this one. We know you can do better.

Honorable mention from May: Speaking of babes, Danica Patrick, for being a sore loser at the Indy 500 and whining about her car, then trying to start a ruckus after she got beat instead of taking it like a winner. Danica should get thrown Under the Bus for that.

The whole team, under the bus, why? Media you say. Kinda condradicting yourself there a little. So what that stories from Dallas Cowboys cover much of the sports media. Have to remember, the media doesn't report positve stories from NFL teams, just soap opera BS. It just happens to be that Americas Team has a broader range of veiwing audience. Sorry that the Panthers don't get much love these days, would you want that?

If you said, throw the "soap opera BS from Dallas" then I could understand but, the whole team, then your views are weak and a epic fail at this point.

first i would tie kyle busch and denny hamlin together and then i would adhere them to the asphalt directly outside of a bus depot so they could be run over again and again and again and again. after that, i would have to throw the NASCAR governing body under the bus, for a number of reasons. it is blatently obvious that the new COT has multiple issues in need of attention that they have yet to address. the toyota's obviously have more HP than the other cars out there, in years past this was investigated immediately, why not this year? oh yeah, they(nascar) want the other foreign mfg's to see that if you throw enough money at us, you too can win. in years past, if a driver acted like and said some of the things kyle busch is doing and saying they would have been fined and docked points(most notably Dale Jr. docked 25 pts for accidentaly saying #### during a post race victory speech), again, why not this year. and lastly, they just need to be more consistant with everything across the board.

*******

Maybe it should be the media that you should throw under the bus, not the Cowboys. The Cowboys are just trying to improve their team. It is the media that is blowing it all out of proportion.

You remind me of the little boy named Joey who hit his friend Jimmy. When his mother asked him why he hit Jimmy, he answered, "Well, Johnny hit me." Always aim your hit at the person who actually offended you not a third person. LOL

Celica2003, not only did Sharapova lose, her loss deprived me of all purpose of watching the French Open women's final (unless Ana Ivanovic makes the final). Perhaps she and Danica could share a rubber sandwich together.

Hybrid, because Jerry Jones is the face of the Cowboys and he's an attention ####. Sorry, I call 'em as I see 'em, and I see that he's an attention ####.

Wam, you have every right to. But I call 'em as I see 'em and the Boys did enough to get thrown under the bus. Just because I detest the Boys doesn't mean I will throw them under unnecessarily. I'll only throw them under when they've earned it, and they did this week.

Novara48, seems to me the Toyotas have a definite HP advantage. As well as the Toyota drivers. If a Chevy or Ford driver pulled the stunts that Denny Hamlin has this season, he'd be parked (see Harvick, Kevin circa 2002).

Spurcse, I couldn't have said it better myself!

I hereby throw ESPN's poker mania under the bus.

jon, i'm not watching the final anymore, either. curse you, Maria! and maybe it's time to throw "angry Cowboy fans" under the bus. I'm an Eagle fan- but a football fan, first- and the Cowboys have been playing some good, entertaining football. But they are attention ####. And finally, we have NFC East fans who are getting to be more obnoxious than the stereotypical Eagles fan. Cowboy fans, your team went 13-3 last year and not only made T.O. happy this year and had an excellent draft, but picked up Pacman Jones. To paraphrase the Joker, "Why so angry?" If the team stank nobody'd pay any attention or offer criticism, and you'd be angry then, too. (Trust me, I'm an Eagles fan. I know the flip side too well- see 2007 8-8 record). Don't get thrown under the bus, just enjoy the upcoming season. I don't like the Cowboys and I certainly despise the Pats, but as a football fan they're fun to watch. Keep up the "Under the Bus" posts, they're awesome.

Yeah I thought of this board last night while watching NFL Network. 30 minutes air time on the Cowboys. Some of it was covering HBO's coverage of the Cowboys. That's a bit overkill.

Dallas is a lot like San Diego, a good team that struggles come playoff time. Sad Diego is a small market team that lacks a huge fan base, therefore the media has no desire to cater to them. Cowboys, Steelers, Patriots, Raiders et al sell stories, papers, and bring hits to websites.

The bottom line is the dollar sign, so don't expect any stories about the good things going on in the Bills or Jags camp. You are misdirecting the frustration to channel it anywhere other than the media who serves up the healthy portions of non-newsworthy events during the slowest time of the NFL's ever-ongoing saga.

Celica, I was SO looking forward to an all-hottie final (Sharapova vs. Ivanovic). Being that I prefer brunettes, I would be pulling for the lovely Ana. (Be still, my beating heart!) I admit, the Boys are a DAMN GOOD team, perhaps one of the favorites to reach the Super Bowl. I plan on it, thanks!

I hereby throw the "ET" media re Cowboys coverage under the Bus.

The Cowboys garner coverage when they're good, which is more often than not. I remember when they sucked in the late 80's. They were hardly covered. Just like the Dolphins are now. When the Dolphins are good again, they'll get more coverage.
