Who Would You Throw Under The Bus? -- May 3, 2008
May 03, 2008 | 10:15PM | report this

Normally, I write this column on Sundays. But because there is so much steam to be vented out, I am doing this tonight. So fans, which dumbAZZ would you like to throw under the Bus? I'll start with what is causing the most ire in the Fox Sports Blogosphere tonight!

NASCAR

Denny Hamlin: this #### INTENTIONALLY cost Dale Earnhardt, Jr. a win tonight. He INTENTIONALLY brought out a caution late in tonight's race by parking himself away from the racing line, and preserving Kyle Busch's chance to win. Junior was pulling away from Shrub at the time the yellow flag came out. For his sheer idiocy, Hamlin gets thrown under the Bus.

Kyle Busch: this DUMBAZZ intentionally wrecked Junior late in the race to bring out the last caution. He's going to get his at some point in the season. Payback is a ####. He had a good enough car without having to resort to bush league tactics. Shrub gets thrown under the Bus.

Michael Waltrip: WHAT WERE YOU DOING racing Casey Mears when you're LAPS DOWN? Because of that, Mears got loose trying to get away from you and made contact with you. Then after the wreck, you HAD to push Mears down the entire straightaway, then DUMP him into the wall again. I'm glad NASCAR parked your sorry ####. Then after you finish your penalty, you get thrown under the Bus.

NBA

Phoenix Suns: they get first billing in the NBA section because not only did they lose in the first round, their arch nemesis, the Lakers, swept the Enver Nuggets. Where are the Suns fans now? The Suns get thrown Under The Bus.

Enver Nuggets: they will continue to be called that until they get some Defense. Thanks for playing in the NBA Playoffs. See you when you play some defense. Until then, you get thrown under the Bus.

Boston Celtics: yeah I know this is going to ruffle some feathers. But you should NEVER, EVER, have to play a Game 7 against the Atlanta Hawks in the first round. But there you are, in a Game 7, and fighting for your playoff lives. The Hawks have NO pressure on them; they weren't expected to even win a game. And I won't be surprised if the Hawks do you in your own crib. In Game 7. For even going to a Game 7 against a sub-.500 team, the Celtics get thrown under the Bus.

MLB

Roger Clemens: is there a bigger phony anywhere than this guy? And why is he STILL being treated royally while Barry Bonds is persona non grata? Bonds is who he is. And for that I give him credit. He ####s a 15 year old girl (allegedly) while a member of the Red Sox. Now there are a few other women that have come forward. I hope Debbie Clemens tees off on his bank account. Until then, Clemens goes under the Bus for being a phony and a fraud.

That's all I have for this special edition of Who Would You Throw Under The Bus?. Feel free to come on in with your nominees!

Gotta agree on the Celtics-especially after the Hawks were doing so much trash talking after game 3. Whatever happened to Celtic (and veteran) pride. Oh yeah all you that had Doc Rivers for coach of the year-you better eat those ballots now.

The old Celtic Pride would have SWEPT the Hawks and not allowed them to even breathe. There is a reason that Garnett, Pierce, and R. Allen haven't been to the NBA Finals. I would have voted for Byron Scott for Coach of the Year. He's done a great job this season. No one knew how good New Orleans would be this season. They're not only good this season, they'll be good for the next SEVERAL seasons. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Agreed with the NASCAR ones. Mears can drive the bus running over Waltrip, and Jr can drive the bus for the other two.

Come on Busch, the best way to go left is to turn left, not right. Did you forget that after all those laps?

Empty3, I was thinking Hamlin and Busch could be thrown under together, since they conspired to prevent Junior from winning. Mears' crew could throw Mikey under while Casey's driving. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

If you're going to throw Denver and Phoenix, you really should be throwing Dallas along with them.

Jon, you know why the Celtics trio has no rings and Kobe has 3? Killer Instinct...Kobe is called black mamba for a reason. None of the Celtics trio has been known recently for singlehandedly taking over a game, destroying and intimidating the opposition.

Can you add Jose Canseco to the MLB under the bus crowd? That #### has been spreading filth and lies sprinkled with truth in an attempt to pay his mortgage.

byte, my bad for not including Dallas. For that, you get to throw Dallas under the bus.

jo, Kobe has that "kill or be killed" attitude. All the great ones have it. Magic had it, Bird had it, MJ had it. In golf, Tiger Woods has it. The Celtics trio are glorified role players, and as such I think they'll come up short at some point in the postseason. Jose Canseco is duly added to be thrown under the Bus. Thanks for stopping by and for your contributions.

jon, I've actually been reading your blogs for a while off the link from the Lakers site...I'm usually just too lazy to post a comment. You usually write some good #### and anybody that bleeds Dodger blue or purple and gold I'm down with. Keep up the good work and I'll catch you around.

Latley it seems that Roger Clemens is wearing out The BUS. It will soon come out that Roger is also a Tax Cheat, Drunk Driver, and the head of a North American Cow tipping ring wreaking haveck with farmers from Pennsylvania to Indiana. So, with that in mind, i took the liberty of calling our good friends at the Grumman bus company to see what they have in stock?

jon...I don't EVEN get the impression that Clemen's is gittin' treated any more "royally" than Bond's...I don't think he was before the McCready thing and he certainly isn't afterward..

I'd say the didain for both of 'em is more than equal..

Looked like racing to me Jon, but then again, I'm a rookie fan and don't know all the nuances of NASCAR...

It looked like Busch got inside Jr. and that shouldn't have happened. Who's fault is that? If the roles were reversed would Jr. back off? It sounds like that is what you expect Busch to do.

It was simply racing Jon...

Now what Hamlin did is a different story... He did what Gordon claims Jr. wouldn't do last week. He was a good teammate... But that doesn't excuse him of being in the wrong. He can stay under the bus!

Jon...I don't EVEN think tha Clemen's is gettin' any more "royal" treatment than Bond's...He wasn't BEFORE the McCready thing and he certainly isn't after...

The disdain for both is pretty-well equal....matter-of-fact, after McCready, Bond's, if anything, has risen in treatment...

jo, thanks. Come on by any time! GO LAKERS! GO DODGERS!

beret, he doesn't seem sincere. My guess is he's going to be in the hole for a LONG time. The Feds are dotting their i's and crossing their t's. They are patient.

b@o, there ya go!!

Steve, at least Bonds is who he says he is. If anything, the Feds could well get him for tax evasion and not steroids. Clemens could well end up being a pariah wherever he goes.

Dwindy, Junior gave Kyle the bottom. It's very possible Kyle drove it in too hard and moved up. He'll learn from that mistake. Hamlin's action was inexcusable. He compromised the integrity of the race, and NASCAR as a whole. There should be SEVERE penalties assessed to Hamlin, including, but not limited to, a one-race suspension. He should also have his points from the race taken away, along with the owners' points.

Underage, LOL. Kobe will be getting his MVP award during the series against the Jazz.

Jokerswild, I don't blame ya. I posted something last week or two weeks ago that never showed up in the blogs section. I contacted the administration and they said it was a bug and they were working on it. Thanks for the props.

Pacman, for his poor fiscal responsibility. After all he's made, he's moved his family out of the mansion in Nashville. Rumors abound that the rainmaker is now broke. Haha... He's asked Jerry Jones to front him a little cash. Jerry obliged, and rained $100,000 dollars down on Adam Jones (it's contracted as guaranteed money, so in the event of non-reinstatement, Cowboys are due it returned to them). There is no confirmation that Pacman had Jerry Jones pay him with one dollar bills.

And I agree with bytemoi - The allas Mavericks belong under there also. Especially Josh Howard. Avery Johnson lost control of - and respect from - the team. He told the team "No partying" during the playoffs, to stay focused. Immediately afterwards J-How passed out invitations to a party! Sad thing is - several players attended.

Hey Midnite, thanks for the props. Pacman is on the receiving end of "making it rain." He is thereby thrown under by you.

Nique, thanks for the kind words. Feel free to visit any time. You can run over Clemens and the Suns as many times as you want!

LOL@Allas Mavericks! Yep, they play NO D either! They needed to whack Avery--he lost the team after the trade deadline.

Oakland, you can throw Zito under the bus if you want!

The wreck that took Jr. out was simply hard racing. Jr. pinched Kyle down and Kyle got loose and overcorrected the car. If Jr. had not pinched Kyle down he never would have gotten loose, therefore Jr. would not have wrecked.

As far as Denny. Not sure what he was thinking. But the kid should not be thrown under the bus. He led the most laps and he should have won. If it had not been for a tire going down, he would have won.

As for Mikey Waltrip, I agree he needs to be thrown under the bus. That was just stupid on his part.

But I will tell you who I would throw under the Bus: Junior Nation. It is called Racing Folks! Accidents happen. Jr. not perfect he wrecked Kyle twice last year during the chase causing Kyle a chance at the championship.

jon_464
May 4, 2008
5:25 PM
As someone posted on another blog, it was the frustration of two years of not winning that boiled over in Jr Nation and they needed someone to take it out on. But we wouldn't be talking about it if Denny Hamlin had gone to the pits right away and changed his tire. He'd have probably finished in the Top 20 had he done so. But Hamlin pulled off the horse#### move of the year, if not the decade. He compromised the integrity of the race, and he did it deliberately.

Sure, his tire went down; it happens to every driver at some point in the season. And I'm sure his crew chief was caught WAY off guard when it happened. But a crew chief is supposed to be prepared for EVERY possible scenario and Mike Ford wasn't prepared for that one. Ford SHOULD HAVE ORDERED Hamlin to pit right away. But he didn't, and now we're talking about this.

I feel bad for Mears. He's been running much better than his finishes indicate. He's had so much bad luck this year. Miguel wrecking him, though, was one of the stupidest and worst things to happen to him this year.

Mears' luck reminds me of the old racing adage, "If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all." I think it's going to turn around for him at some point this year.

You won't hear any arguments here on the Clemens' situation. In our world TGIF is the apt name for the restaurant chain. But in Clemens' world it means ......'that girls is fifteen ..? Then she's worth nailin'.

The woefully inept pitching staff on the Texas Rangers. But even more so it'd be Nolan Ryan for having the temerity to state that he didn't think that they were going to be so bad. Has he as President of the team not been watching them over the last three or four years ?

Spurcse, I couldn't agree with you more! Whoever invented that ring of fire stunt should be thrown under a double decker bus!

Tophatal, Clemens lives in a distorted world--he still wants to go forward with his defamation suit. So very delusional. As much as I admire Nolan Ryan, he does get the bus treatment for being myopic about his own team. The Rangers flat-out SUCK. They're the worst team in the majors in the last 20 years, even worse than the 2003 Detroit Tigers.

I'd throw 95 % of GM's in sports under the bus . As many of 'em don't know what the hell their jobs are meant to be in the first place. The other 5% I'd give a pass to as they're still figuring their jobs out by way of using an Etch A Sketch !

It's still not lost on some of the GM's that are still using her 1-800 number. It seems that they've forgot that it's meant to be used for entertainment purposes only .

I'm waiting to see how the Raiders'll fare this season. As there's a belief amongst some of their fans this just might be their year. I've heard it said before and just like 'em I'm still waiting for things to happen.

I've a new post up written under this guise titled Under The Radar No More ....! It's a piece on pitcher Greg Maddux of the San Diego Padres and his quest to win his 350th game. Something that I for one think is more credible than the accomplishments of Clemens and Bonds.
Let me know what you think as to the merits of the piece ? I'll look forward to reading your comments.

the people who cant keep straight OSU from the university of oregon???? i know we are wayyy the hell out west!!!!! and dont get much respect from you guys in the east!!!!!! we are not to far from each other... a scant 45 minutes away from north to south... and its funny heres the example ok?? ive have seen on many occasions a car/van a vehicle with a OSU flag or banner flying on one side and on the other side a university of oregon banner flying on the same car???? i wonder sometimes if this would happen in california??? a USC flag and a UCLA flag on the same car???? or better yet??? in florida a FSU flag and on the same car a florida flag???? i kind of doubt it!!!!!!

Tophatal, I think the Raiders will be an improved team, but still be a below .500 team unless Russell can put the franchise on his back. I see them at 6-10. I'll be sure to take a look and comment on your latest post. Maddux's wins ARE legit. The only thing he's guilty of is drinking a few extra chocolate shakes.

Kelly, I'm below you in California and I can tell the difference between UO and OSU! You would NEVER see a USC and UCLA flag on the same car unless one spouse attended USC and the other attended UCLA. As for Florida/FSU, I DON'T THINK SO. The fans that can't keep UO and OSU straight are thereby thrown under the bus.

I am from Central California. I am passionate about sports, particularly the NFL and NASCAR. My favorite teams are: Panthers (NFL), Lakers (NBA), Flyers (NHL), and Dodgers (MLB). I am also a Kevin Harvick fan in NASCAR. I am a Fresno State honk. (I'll admit it!) And I am also a fan of MMA. Jackie Robinson to this day represents what is right about baseball. I also enjoy discussing the relevant (and sometimes irrelevant) issues of the day pertaining to sports. I will never understand why televised poker is so popular. Who wants to see a bunch of people sitting around a table, muttering to themselves? I do my best to keep politics out of my sports discussions. That is why I recently created a nonsports blog, cencalscribe.
